New Yorker Patio Bar Review - MiMo - Miami - The Infatuation

"MiMo doesn’t really have any bars, but there is a little outdoor spot in the back of the New Yorker Hotel. Don’t expect much more than beer and simple well drinks here, but it’s a casual place good for a sunset drink or catching up with a few friends." - Ryan Pfeffer

My husband and I stayed at this hotel this weekend and we absolutely loved it! Our room was immaculate; the bed was so cozy and the bathroom was gorgeous. This location was also perfect for us, it was less than 14 minutes away from Downtown Wynwood and 15-20 minutes away from South Beach! And what made our stay even more enjoyable was the amazing hotel staff; everyone was extremely kind and welcoming to us. We will be coming back! Highly recommend!

I originally was supposed to stay in this “hotel” for 3 nights but we rearranged our bookings due to previous reviews regarding the location. On our one night here, at 1am in the morning we decided to leave the hotel and move elsewhere because we felt unsafe by the neighbour above us. The walls are paper thin and we could hear what sounded like screaming and crying above us as well as loud thumping sounds. After this we left at 1.30am and got a taxi to a hotel in a much safer location. That being said, the receptionist was extremely kind and welcoming of us, but that is about the only aspect that I can compliment the place.

when I arrived, the woman at the front desk — her name starts with a C — was friendly but a bit of a kooky windbag and she didn’t seem to know when to stop talking. she didn’t seem to pick up on the fact that I was carrying a heavy bag on my back and didn’t want to spend my day in the lobby chatting with her. She started to sprout her political/negative views about Trump, which isn’t appropriate for a hotel employee. i’m not there to discuss politics. I just want to check in. ||Had I known the checkout time was so early, 10 AM, I would never have booked at this hotel. It took some convincing for her to allow me to check out at 11 AM instead of 10 am. however, I didn’t check out the following day and decided to stay an extra night, but when i booked for the following night I gave her the feedback that the room smelled like bleach and strong cleaning chemicals, so strong in fact, I had to air out the room by keeping the doors and windows open for over an hour. She told me that if they didn’t use strong cleaning chemicals, people would complain because there are still Covid “cases”. I was surprised that in 2025 they were still sanitizing the rooms heavily for Covid. I expressed my views on this which she didn’t like, and when I asked her if I could have a late check out the following day, she adamantly refused I simply wanted an 11 AM check out rather than 10 AM, but she was rigid about it this time. there was no reason for her to refuse, except that she seem to be punishing me for expressing views that were different than hers.||The hotel isn’t horrible but it’s not really near anything either and it’s not worth the price. There were some colourful characters who stayed there as well who seemed like welfare recipients. Not sure if they were staying by the month . I would recommend going elsewhere.

Had a good stay at this hotel. The free parking is definitely a plus ! The breakfast (or it’s not allowed to be called a breakfast because of the omitting of eggs) the breakfast was a bit meager, but feels like it’s better than nothing (something one could expect in another hotel at this price range). The hotel is next to a busy street so not recommended for light sleepers. Or at least bring ear plugs. For me personally traveling alone with a rental car this hotel was a really good choice. Prize / quality ratio is quite good. The room was clean and I liked the key code instead of a key card.

I stayed at this motel for two nights. It is located across from Legion Memorial Park. Independently owned, reconditioned motel, which appears to be from the 1950s. There are two sections and the front section is similar to a motel with two floors and the back section is similar to a hotel with 5 floors with stairs, but no elevator. I did not see the rooms in the back section. Reasonable price and my room was clean but small. I felt safe in this neighborhood. Friendly staff. Mini refrigerator and $5 water in the room. Wi-Fi in the rooms has acceptable upload and download speeds. Front desk sells snacks, wine, beer, and tequila. It’s not a Hilton or Hyatt hotel, so I had realistic expectations before I arrived. Large swimming pool and courtyard area. Room entry using an access code. Located on a busy four lane street so you will hear traffic in the front section, so you may want to request the back building for less street noise. This motel is good for people on a budget. See photos for more details.

The room and stay was fine but after I left to check out the hotel charged me for the water bottles and facilities that I never used or touched. I got in contact with them and the front desk were very rude and disrespectful when I tried to inform them about the situation. Edit/update: Situation resolved with an appropriate response by staff, very appreciated and helpful

Small hotel but great service. Quiet and safe area, clean room, soft bed, super friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast options are very limited, but we ate elsewhere anyway. By the way, I loved the pink shower.

Yelp
This was a tough call for me with this review, as I was on the fence of whether this place would land at a true three stars, or a very rare "two and half but in a good way" just making the cut to a functional three star positive review. After much deliberation I am giving it the full three, but likely by the closest margins of my reviewing career. First the positives; Unbeatable location smack in the heart of the booming "Mimo District" within easy walking district to many of it's most popular and iconic establishments including the great Caracas Bakery, the beloved local favorite Blue Collar restaurant, and most crucially the incredible Legion Park Farmers market on Saturdays directly across the street. Secondly this Mid-Century Art Deco gem is nothing short of a architectural classic, front the same famous architect behind among other things the iconic Miami Beach Bandshell, the grounds have retained a funky charm and unique character that are nothing short of enchanting, with plenty of flamingo heavy funky murals and artwork offering ideal selfie options along with the classic Instagram bait swimming pool that would surely make any influencer or those who aspire to become one's head spin. A very basic spread of coffee and bagels in the funky courtyard was bot better expected and then it looked, and offered the chance to meet and chat with a very interesting and international group of fellow guests. The Negative; The room, on first glance seemed in keeping with the hotels overall aesthetic and vibe in that it appeared artfully decorated if bare bones and sufficiently clean. Unfortunately it was only after we were all in and situated and back in the room getting ready for the night out did I discover that the bathroom, seemingly due to a disgustingly filthy vent on the ceiling had an extremely unpleasant and unrelenting odor. Furthermore when were were back in bed and sleeping in the middle of the night I was awoken by an extremely loud and gratingly harsh vaguely mechanical sound that I figured must have been due to some air conditioning or piping or something. It was only after I was so disturbed by the ongoing noise that I was forced to get out of bed and investigate did I determine that the rooms mini fridge was the source of said excruciating noice. I unplugged the mini fridge and went back to sleep, perplexed at how such noises could ever emanate out of such a small appliance. The next morning the foul odor in the was no better. So obviously the room was the factor that had me on the fence with this review. What ultimately pushed me over the line to a legit three stars however is the simple fact that this place is an exceptional value. It was under $200 for a prime Saturday night in peak season when we visited and most weeknights available for a cool $100. These fees are nothing less than incredible considering its location. This being the case, I can't say I wouldn't stay again, particularly if I was by myself and looking for a cheap excursion into Miami, but next time I would ask to see the room before checking in and check the bathroom in particular.

Yelp
When searching/booking this property on Expedia, l selected 1Adult, 1 Child and used the drop down to select my child's age. No where in the property details does it state "ADULT ONLY" BEFORE booking. If that was the case why even allow your hotel to show a match with those search parameters? After booking, the confirmation email even states "Max # of children per room is 1" and also further details about children under 2, children under 17. It also states "Family friendly" on the listing. No where in the communications AFTER booking does it state "ADULT ONLY". Before checking in, i rcvd a direct message from hotel that requested my email and phone so they could "communicate directly and provide a quick check-in", which i provided immediately and they replied to indicating they rcvd it. Upon arrival, I provided "(my name) for checkin" and held my Expedia screen up. Front Desk said she didnt have any record of my name, email or phone # on file. I explained the Hotel messaged me directly asking for this and they confirmed they rcvd it and I showed her my confirmation Expedia email. Front Desk said she doesn't have access for Expedia acct. So why are you in the position of checking in hotel guests when your hotel ACTIVELY uses Expedia if you can't access Expedia rsvps? I later saw that the hotel responded to Expedia reviews recently so I know they are aware their hotel is listed there. Front Desk said it may have been "someone else". So i end up having to provide all info again including payment to rsvp which delayed everything. She then asks for ID which I provided as customary. She then points to my 10yo and said she also needs her ID. Confused, I say, "shes 10, a child". Front Desk says this is an ADULT ONLY" hotel and all guests must provide IDs, all rsvps must have IDs for all quests. I explained again, shes a CHILD and doesnt have an ID and i provided her age at time of rsvp. Front Desk kept saying, "ITS THE LAW" over and and over again that a child MUST PRESENT ID at checkin. She also went on to say "because I'm from Ft Lauderdale" (which I'm not if she would look at my DL that is IN HER HAND and that she scanned" that I wouldn't know "ITS THE LAW in MIAMI" that EVERY ADULT and CHIID MUST SHOW ID". I said I don't know what you want from me then. I don't have any ID for her. She replies sharply "so you don't keep her school ID on you???!!" I explained we homeschool so no she's doesn't have a school ID and I have never heard of a child needing their school ID to be a guest under a parents hotel rsvp. She said she would permit us to stay this one time.... and just kept repeating ITS THE LAW. She kept saying this is An ADULT ONLY hotel but nothing on the consumer side of Expedia or communications directly from the hotel state this. Front Desk also said you can't use the ice maker if there is customers in lobby. She legit asked us to leave the lobby when attempting to fill a small cooler. Well, maybe don't have the ONLY ice machine onsite in the lobby NEXT to front desk if it's too much of a distraction. At 8pm the lobby was FULL of probably 8 different parties trying to checkin using this hotel's antiquated check in process. they need to get with the times and go digital or something because that is insane to have that many people waiting for check-in because the hotel refuses to utilize modern procedures. They can't use Spring Break as an excuse because while I was in town I didn't see a single crowded place so it wasn't like this hotel was overwhelmed by crowded spring breakers or something. The parking lot wasnt full. Never saw anyone at pool. Never bumped into any other guests in hallways and only 5-6 people at the morning bagel/coffee setup. While the room looked clean, it didn't feel clean. The floors felt like they just straight poured cleaner on floor and wiped up without rinsing. The room floors felt so dirty. The electrical setup in the outdoor bar/lounge area appears to be a dangerous electrical hazard. Small residential Extension cords connected to more small residential extension cords connected to exposed small residential power strips . When I tried to use the microwave, there was a loud pop and all power went out to the patio lights and microwave. I didn't see any lifesaving equipment in pool area. Not throw rings, safety reach sticks, etc. Overall, if this hotel wants to identify as an ADULT ONLY hotel, they need to correct ALL the info that is presented to the consumer. They are responding to different Expedia reviews about some of the things I'm mentioning so they are aware and have been aware for a while but continue to ignore concerns and the solutions needed. My daughter woke up with multiple large raised red bites on arms and legs. I have never experienced this and when I looked online, bed bug bite results looked identical to her injuries! AVOID! DANGER! This place is a hazard to you and your families health.

Yelp
The immediate area of the hotel is fine, but a few blocks west is very sketchy. 2 days after I left, I received notice that they put a $150 charge on my card. I called the hotel directly and was informed I committed a deposit violation: either smoking, damages or drinking a bottle of water, and I could speak to a supervisor if I wanted to have this corrected. The phone number I was given for a supervisor was a general number/call center. When I called the front desk to verify the number I was informed the supervisor is very busy and I should just email. Very convenient that the penalty was added 2 days after I left and had no way of addressing the false accusation. Also, wanted to watch some sports but tv is all streaming (not traditional cable) with a virtual Firestick, so "channel" choices are limited to non-existent, and buffer often.

Yelp
Great experience this weekend at the New Yorker Hotel...the hotel staff was nice and friendly, the property was clean...I stayed in room 125, 1st floor, pool room....minor negative items would be that the cleaning staff needs to lighten up on the fabuloso as yes, the reviews across the web that previously mentioned a strong smell of cleaning product were accurate...it took a day and a half of coming and going and leaving the door open some when I was there in order to get the scent to a less overwhelming level...but that's also fabuloso for you...the stuff is concentrated, and the room was definitely clean. 2nd would be that they need to figure out how to make the back parking area more accessible, maybe not parking the golf cart right in the 1st spot or eliminating the first 2 spots so there is room for people to navigate the corner without running over the curb...there was a vehicle parked in the 2nd spot in the back which made it so I could not clear the corner to enter the lot and park, if the golf cart had been parked somewhere else I could have pulled straight forward, but anyway you cut it there is no turning around in the back lot if there is a single other vehicle....no big deal, just something they need to work on. Also, the rain head in the shower did not work, so only the handheld head worked, but the shower was hot and clean, so again, no big deal. Bed was comfy, no stains, no signs of life that shouldnt be there...plenty of soft fluffy pillows. Alot of folks that left reviews talked about the "bad area" that the hotel is in...The area isn't dangerous IMO, its cultural, its local, its no more dangerous than any other inner city neighborhood...I'm very white, I dont speak the language (i understand enough) I walked late at night, I went into a local bodega at 3:00am, I was by myself, I didnt feel unsafe or uneasy at all...its not touristy south beach so it has a neighborHOOD feel, but I hear more sirens and loud bangs in the Tampa suburbs...do not let the OLD stats and OLD reviews keep you away from a great cultural experience... I'd 100% stay here again and had such a great experience being immersed in the local culture, enjoying the food, art and vibes that the city has to offer!

Yelp
It's clean it's bright and staff is super friendly - - and the location is perfect right in the middle of the MiMo district.
