The Newport Restaurant

Amazing food at The Newport! We were in Scotland recently for our anniversary, and had the chance to enjoy the 5 course tasting menu. There is a lovely little bar on the main floor for before dinner drinks, and then two different levels of tables. Very cute rooms, and our corner table had a wonderful view out over the water. The food was locally sourced and absolutely spectacular, each course thoughtfully prepared and then explained by our server. It is a bit more adventurous (much to the dismay of the Americans beside us who wanted "regular food, but if you are looking to enjoy a place where you can enjoy creative preparations of local food, this is absolutely your spot. Service was a bit slow (largely due to the large booking beside us), and as it is a tasting menu, leave yourself plenty of time to enjoy. Thoughtful sine list to accompany our food, and a surprise plate at the end acknowledging our anniversary (which I had mentioned in my booking notes). Would definitely recommend and we will return the next time we are in Scotland.

Fantastic taster menu......some excellent wines to go with it. Would prefer to have a bottle of Montepulciano for the entire course the next time around. The attention to detail was great and the dishes were beautiful with the all the individual taste coming through.... Would thoroughly recommend this. Excellent service too..... Great setting overlooking the River and the distant lights of Dundee shimmering through!

Had a lovely 7 course tasting menu with matching wines. The food and wines were delicious and very well paired together. The staff were very knowledgeable about both food and the wines. The quirky decor in the restaurant is very well done. From the piano cutlery storage to the lamp made of kitchen utensils.

The sparkling Sunday lunch ( three courses and generous bread and potato skin and dip starter for £35 ) enough variety and interesting food on small menu. The view is stunning and it would be well worth booking a window table. Enjoyed the lunch though missing a little out on atmosphere While I like to able to hear myself talk I don’t want to be able to hear the other tables talk too. Just a bit stilted. Would definitely recommend

We had the 6 course tasting menu and it was amazing! Lots of snacks between courses. Service was outstanding, very knowledgeable staff and food was delicious. Nice view across to Dundee. Well worth the money. Nice little added touch at the end because it was our anniversary. Would highly recommend. X

Had the 8 course tasting menu and it was fabulous. Highly recommended for a special occasion or an indulgent treat. Each course was presented beautifully and inmost cases was served by the chef who cooked it. Overall good value for money for what we got. We stayed over and the breakfast the following day was also exceptional. Staff were all friendly and knew the menu very well. Great experience and we no doubt be back soon.

This was our first time dining at Newport Restaurant and what a wonderful experience it was too. The setting on the Tay is fantastic with beautiful view over the Dundee City skyline. We dined a Friday evening and had the Tasting Menu. This is by far my preferred way to enjoy a meal, so many flavours and so many experiences in one meal. The team were so professional and friendly, it felt very much like we were regulars at the Restaurant. They also offer a children's menu and hope to come for lunch with them some time. A big thanks to Jamie and his brilliant team for making it an unforgettable evening.

No place has ever deserved 5 stars more. Everything about this place is phenominal, from the knowledge and attention of our servers - Daisy and Cheska - to the carefully crafted, delicious food! They care so much about you having a good experience, they'll go out of their way to give you one, especially if you're celebrating a special occasion. I HIGHLY recommend to anyone who wants to treat themselves to a once-in-a-lifetime dinner.

What a great wee place. I visited with my Mother in Law when up visiting from Glasgow. If you know Glasgow then This place is very similar to Ox & Finch. However, for those unfamiliar, then this is a small plate restaurant so you order a few dishes you want to try. Everything's pretty notch and not too expensive for the quality of food you are eating. It's also a great location to watch a world famous silvery Tay sunset.

Wow! Just wow!! The whole concept was just so perfect. The location of this restaurant is so fantastic, the big windows that brought so much light in to the room and the amazing view of the river. A pretty small restaurant which I loved. Super nice waitresses, great survives. The vibe is chic and for me it reminded me of the beautiful west coast in Sweden. Going on a trip to Scotland and have the opportunity to eat at such an awesome restaurant got me so happy. So let's talk about the food, It was like a tapas menu. So I ordered 3 different things and one desert. Everything was so smooth and just melted in my mouth. The food was worth every little cent.
