In-Depth Review of the Nickel Hotel in Charleston - AFAR

"A 50-room, five-story hotel launched in June 2025 by Method Co., housed in a reimagined former furniture store and designed with Morris Adjmi Architects and the brand’s in-house studio to resemble a historic European townhouse. The property pairs long-stay practicality with stylish, moody interiors: a lobby of checkered tile, Moroccan-inspired plaster arches and glass cases of old books, a second-floor courtyard with wrought-iron balconies, a central fountain and rattan seating open to the sky, and rooms that feel like chic townhouse apartments. Guest accommodations come with full-size fridges, dishwashers, in-room washer/dryers, rain showers, gas ranges topped with Le Creuset kettles, minibars stocked with local products, and top-floor suites with expansive terraces and skyline views punctuated by church spires. Larger suites feature reclaimed oak floors, designer textiles and full kitchens with prep islands ideal for entertaining; staff can prestock fridges for arrivals. Located on energetic King Street in the Cannonborough neighborhood—steps from cocktail bars, acclaimed restaurants, retailers, Marion Square’s weekend farmers’ market and the College of Charleston—the location is excellent for families or groups who want to be in the center of Charleston life, though the lively nighttime scene can feel boisterous for travelers seeking a quiet retreat. Service is youthful and friendly, with staff doubling as local guides, and the property is equipped for mobility needs with a wide elevator and ADA-compliant king rooms across multiple price tiers." - Jenny Adams

Team Behind Charleston Restaurant Lowland Plans a New Rooftop Bar | Eater Carolinas

"A forthcoming luxury, 50-room hotel at 529 King Street being developed by Method Co. in partnership with Capital Square, with architecture by Morris Adjmi Architects. The property will include a guest-only bar and a rooftop bar and lounge called Rosemary Rose; reservations start May 1 and the hotel is slated to open this spring. The project was publicly announced by James Beard-winning chef Jason Stanhope, though his subsequent departure from the development team may be contributing to limited public details about the property’s food-and-beverage plans." - Erin Perkins

5 stars for The Nickel Hotel! Excellent boutique hotel close to so many things to do in Charleston. Our room was exceptionally clean and comfortable, and the kitchenette made our stay so much better. We had laundry, coffee, a fridge and freezer in room, even a dish washer! My only “dislike” was only one of the nightstands had a power outlet close enough for charging your phone while you slept. Not a big deal but it is a tiny detail in 2025 that is nice to have and I usually expect in a newer property like this one. We did valet our car daily and it was easy to access when we needed it. Front desk staff was welcoming and helpful. If I’m in Charleston again and need a place to stay, I’ll definitely be back.

Beyond Beautiful!|Had the pleasure of staying at The Nickel for a night. We are locals.|The staff, from valet to check in, were all so warm, friendly and helpful. True Charleston hospitality!||Our room was on the 2nd floor which directly accesses a courtyard that was magnificently designed and reminiscent of the French Quarter. There was a lot of comfortable seating, a flowing foundation and lighting that added to the ambience. ||The room itself was incredible.|Beautiful French doors, a kitchen, stylish furniture. A very Comfortable bed and lovely design details. ||There are many restaurants within walking distance. We enjoyed a happy hour at The Darling Oyster Bar next door. My understanding is that the Nickel will have a rooftop bar and restaurant opening soon. | |Fantastic stay!

We were blown away by our stay at The Nickel Hotel! We were lucky enough to snag a room over Memorial Day Weekend, before the grand opening, and were really impressed by our entire experience. The hotel and rooms are very well designed, tons of amenities in the room, and the staff was truly welcoming and helpful. ||As we were there early on, the rooftop was not open yet, but we cannot wait to visit again once everything is up and running! ||Highly recommend this hotel, as the location is awesome and well worth the visit.

The entire experience was wonderful. The rooms and bathrooms were beautiful and the beds extremely comfortable. The staff was kind, helpful, and prompt. They remembered my name and my car when I needed it from valet. The hotel is quaint and relaxing. It is on my favorites list and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a superior experience to other hotels in Charleston.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the sweetest staff! They were so helpful with any questions or recommendations and made us feel right at home! The room was so beautiful and the kitchen was stocked with the best snacks! The lovely attached patio had a view of the courtyard and a peaceful fountain! We are already dreaming of our next stay at the Nickel!

My girlfriend and I stayed for one night at The Nickel and we were absolutely blown away by everything! The room was phenomenal, it had every amenity we needed... and then some! I've genuinely never slept in a more comfortable bed, and the shower was spectacular. Our room had a view of The Nickel's courtyard and the city! The courtyard had a beautiful fountain and lights, and the view of Charleston was awe-inspiring. We were right in the heart of the city and Kelly (the front desk manager) gave us great recommendations to go bar and restaurant hopping since everything was right there. We are going to come back soon so we can experience the rooftop bar, which is not up-and-running yet since the hotel just opened.

Stayed at The Nickel for a last minute weekend getaway and it was perfect! The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, the staff is very friendly and the rooms bed and pillows were so so so comfortable. Our room had a balcony that led to a shared large courtyard that was amazing to sit and relax with a glass of wine at the end of the day. The hotel is right on King st. And was within waking distance to so many great restaurants (pink bellies!) and coffee shops. Will definitely be staying here again in the future.

Our family spent a week at The Nickel and had an unforgettable experience. The beds were incredibly comfortable, the outdoor area with the fountain was wonderful and the service was top tier. Our rooms were spacious and comfy, filled with Le Labo products, and came with a full kitchen! We also had a birthday in the family which was a treat to spend at the Nickel. All staff told her Happy Birthday and gave us a wonderful local Christophe Artisan chocolate box in the room. Our experience would not have been the same without our awesome valet, Jacob. He was the first to greet us and kept up with our evening plans to be sure our car would be ready. He was the face of the hotel to us, and provided unmatched hospitality that we had never quite experienced anywhere in Charleston. The hotel is beautifully designed, and has similar charm and character as their sister restaurant, Lowland. We can’t wait for the opening of Rosemary Rose, and will be continuing to stay here and recommend this hotel to all!

Yelp
This new addition to Charleston is a wonderful hotel. It is beautifully appointed and very tastefully decorated. There are comfortable public spaces including a courtyard and intimate bar area. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very comfortable and include a kitchen area stocked with fresh coffee beans, tea, and other refreshments. The room included a private balcony where we enjoyed some wine before venturing out for dinner. Highly recommended.
