Where To Eat Outside In Santa Barbara - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"This takeout food window/beer hall is the best place to drink craft beer in Santa Barbara, with some pretty strong bar food as well. You order your food at Nook (get the lobster mac and cheese), then stroll over to their outdoor patio and proceed to drink your afternoon away with their 19 taps and over 300 different varieties of cans and bottles." - brant cox

The Nook - Review - Santa Barbara - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"The Funk Zone is known for its wine tasting rooms. But at The Nook/Lama Dog Tap Room, things take a hoppier turn. This beer hall is the best place to drink craft beer in Santa Barbara, with some pretty strong bar food as well. You order your food at Nook (get the short rib burger and lobster mac and cheese), then stroll over to the long communal tables at Lama Dog and proceed to drink your afternoon away with their 20 taps and over 300 cans and bottles." - Brant Cox

Google
The food here is really tasty. The pricing is moderate. However, you get enough food for the price you pay. I love that I was able to substitute or take certain things off of my burger without it being a problem. My wife and I enjoyed lunch here. I got the Nook burger and she got the Lama burger. We shared the Lobster Mac-n-Cheese. It comes as a 2 person portion... so that made us happy. We throughly enjoyed our entire meal. Everything came out fresh and hot.

Google
The Nook is such a fun and welcoming spot in Santa Barbara! The customer service is incredibly friendly, and I love their setup of ordering before seating, it makes the whole experience smooth and easy, especially when you're ready to head out after your meal. The beer garden atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, with a full bar offering everything from craft beers to refreshing non-alcoholic options. Plus, the board games add such a playful touch while you enjoy your food. Speaking of the food: everything was fresh and delicious! The chicken sandwich was huge, juicy, and packed with flavor, while the mac and cheese was perfectly cheesy and comforting. Definitely a place worth coming back to for good food, good vibes, and great people.

Google
The Nook is inside the LLama Dog bar. We got to order our Angus burgers with scrumptious fries and sit at the bar and enjoy our meal with a beer. The quality of the beef is great and the burger is massive. The French fries were absolutely my favorite. Loved the open concept and ambience and music was a plus. Dog friendly!

Great for large groups dogs and kids! Everything else was packed on the holiday weekend so glad we found this place for our group of 18 people!

Google
I am new to the area and happen to stumble upon this place. My daughter my wife and I ate here and the food service as well as the atmosphere were amazing. We all had the nook burger with fries which didn't disappoint it was great. If you're looking for a great place to eat I highly recommend the nook.

Google
We ate dinner here while enjoying beers from Lama Dog. The impossible burger was very good. It had a yummy sauce but I didn’t ask if it was dairy free. The fries were hot and good. I would eat here again. We also watched the NFL Monday night football game here on the big TVs.

Google
Found this place while walking my dog. Needed a spot with a patio. The halibut tostada caught my eye. Score! It tasted so good and the halibut was a thick chunk of fish cooked perfectly. No way to pick it up so I had to use a knife and fork. Drinks come from the adjacent tap room. Definitely will come back.

Google
The Nook is inside the Lama Dog Tap Room and my husband, and I wanted to try their burgers since they came highly recommend by the locals. I’m so glad we came here! I was impressed with their burger selection, and it was hard to decide what one to get. The burgers are generously sized, with a thick and juicy patty that fills the bun. The patties are cooked to perfection, retaining their natural juices. Each bite is succulent and flavorful. You’ll find a variety of toppings to customize your burger. From classic lettuce, tomato, and onion to more adventurous options like avocado or caramelized onions. The buns are soft, slightly toasted, and hold up well against the juicy patty and toppings. The seasoning is spot-on, enhancing the beefy flavor without overpowering it. Whether you like it simple or loaded with toppings, The Nook’s burgers are a delightful treat for your taste buds and don’t forget the seasoned fries! They were perfect nice and crispy just the way I like them! We rolled out of there we were so full! Remember, taste is subjective, but most visitors agree that The Nook’s burgers are a must-try when you’re in Santa Barbara! They also offer other types of food if you aren’t a burger person such as salads, pork belly quesadilla, and sandwiches.

Yelp
Might be the best burger I've ever had. The service was really good and the fries were delicious!

Yelp
My wife and I have been wanting to try this place out and we finally did. We both ordered a burger and fries. The burgers were good, the patties had an interesting texture. The fries were really good and they were crunchy which was a plus. It's a good spot to have a beer and watch football games.

Yelp
The halibut tostada is consistently good and fresh and one of the best values in town. It is $22 and has a huge piece of fish on it. The flavors are all good. The Nook burger is $20, comes with fries. I was told that's a going price of a burger these days. My friend said it was very good and just right.

Yelp
Fun casual spot! I love their salmon salad and the addition of the Pizzaria with evenmore salad choices! I suggest sharing these yummy bites!
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
Even if you are a carnivore, the cauliflower wings are a MUST. So crispy with so much yummy sauce. You will love them! You order at a stand then get a buzzer for your food. I really enjoyed the pesto truffle fries, but they are extremely heavy on the pesto, so be warned. The outdoor seating is in a little alley, they didn't have all their bistro lights on so it was slightly dark

Yelp
The loaded tots were incredible. I want to bathe in that chipotle aioli. Good vibes and lots of beverage options available from the other joints.
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
I love Lama Dog Taproom, so I hate to give Nook a bad rating, but we were really disappointed. The burger was almost inedible - and I love burgers! The mac and cheese looked like something a college kid made in their dorm - elbow noodles with some light flavorless cheese sauce and some small pieces of lobster that tasted like they came out of a can. Stick to the beverages, folks!

Yelp
I definitely enjoyed the Topa Topa burger. I have never had brie on a burger and it actually tasted really good. The llama burger didn't have much flavor, even though there were a lot of toppings. I have had the pork belly quesadilla here before and I really enjoyed that. I appreciate that it's kid friendly but kids cannot sit at the bar inside or outside, of course. Always been a big fan of the nook a little hidden gem.

Yelp
Went there to watch an NBA game, VIBE was amazing, they had several TVs so other sports events where on as well. There were several other businesses that shared the space and it was open seating. I sat at the bar which was a different business than the "Nook" (which is a food only business). You have to order at a window and are then given a buzzer to alert you when your food is ready. I ordered the "seafood burger", which was a blended patty of salmon, shrimp, and scallops and I opted for truffle fries. Although very busy and crowded on this particular day, it did not take long for my food. Even if the wait would've been longer, the food would have been well worth it.

Yelp
Great vibe , great food , great crowds . Would recommend it to anyone . Live shows sometimes . Great pizzas , great staff . The bars attract interesting crowds .

Yelp
Where's the supposed Australian lobster tail in the Lobster mac and cheese? How come I don't taste any truffle? Oh I know why BECAUSE they didn't put either of those ingredients that's supposed to be in it! Instead of lobster they put crawfish. It is falsely advertised...don't waste your $22 it's not worth it! If you want really good truffle lobster mac and cheese go to Hendry's they actually have a decent amount of lobster and you can smell & taste their truffle.

Yelp
Delicious food! We had the pretzel bites and beer cheese dip. Really good! We also share a pork belly quesadilla! To DIE for!!! So good! fantastic service!! We'll be back very soon!!

Yelp
Came here not knowing what to expect and we were pleasantly surprised! The food was really great. We enjoyed the pork belly quesadilla which had flavorful sauces and the pork was tender. The halibut tostada was also a hit. It was bursting with saucy coleslaw and also had yummy guacamole and sour cream sauces. The blackened mahi mahi tacos were sooo good. The sauce is a bit spicy and they have a generous portion of fish. We also got the side salad which was probably overkill as our entrees were more than enough but the salad was fresh with avacado, strawberry and pickled onions with a sweet citrus dressing. The bar is well stocked with beets and they were great at helping me choose a west coast IPA. Seating is limited and not super comfy but we managed just fine. I liked it so much I look forward to a return on my next visit to SB

Didn't really interact with the staff just ordered from them.

Yelp
Oh Nook!! We have been coming here for many years - Love Lama Dog & grabbing a burger & fries. Most of the time, food is good, sometimes a miss, but.....today was the worst :( Turkey Burger was SO dry, and they had different buns that were stale, dry, it was horrible. Fries are always solid. We also ordered a Topa Burger, same dry bun, asked for medium got well done. SO disappointed - zero love given...

George M.

Yelp
Food was okay, we ordered a burger and the Rueben, they didn't have a lot of flavor but they were good portions. Cool place to hang out and watch a game.

Yelp
AMAZING! Our guests LOVED The Nook food and service during our sons rehearsal dinner this past week. The burgers were out of this world! Had the Lama Dog burger and it was to die for. I can't thank Michael and his team enough for a beautiful evening with family and friends before the wedding. Service was great and the food even greater!!! We live in PA and this will be our "go-to" when visiting Santa Barbara. Well done team! Thank you!!!!

Yelp
Perfect place to take your pups and get a drink. I admit I love petting cute dogs in public. The wife thought her loaded tater tots was not very loaded. You can see if in the pictures very minimal sauce and toppings. We split the spicy chicken burger, and it ended up being really good. Nobody has taken a picture or reviewed it so the wife was very suspicious of ordering it but after I told her I would split it with her she decided to order it with me. The spicy chicken burger had a good kick to it. Especially being jalapenos only. Most spicy chicken sandwiches don't have any kick. But this spicy chicken does have a small kick to it. I wish there was a little bit bigger piece of chicken in it, but the wife felt that this spicy chicken sandwich had a bigger piece of chicken than many other places. The Llama Burger was good. The bun was very soft and plush do yourself and it went really well with the beer. The Truffle fries tasted more like pesto. I did not taste any truffle at all. But I did like how the fries are very fat. This place is definitely a good place to eat and chill but parking is a b*

Yelp
Bad service, cashier was rude, they got our whole order wrong and didnt want to own up to there mistakes and refused to give us a new order , worse place to go at this point just go to in and out or habit lol food was obviously not good and overpriced

Yelp
Hidden in the popular happening Funk zone, the nook serves as the anchor between llama dog and topa topa breweries. Their menu consist of hearty meals that pair well with a flight or one beer. Order truffle fries! But their regular fries are just as delicious and crispy- just order both! The lama burger, good luck trying to get all layers in one bite. You get preference on how the meat to be done. ( I personally do medium rare). This burger includes bacon and a Chile filled with cheese. It's worth the battle to eat it. Just dig in! Always get the pretzel! Tough exterior soft interior-comfort food! If you must go healthy the salmon salad is a filling portion and delicious. This place is great for groups of all sizes, but seating is on a first come first serve basis. Most workers are attentive and friendly.

Dani C.

Yelp
If you're in Topa Topa and ordering at the Nook window inside, the food is really good. Service is good as long as you don't make any mistakes when ordering, otherwise you're mad dogged until you want to shrink inside yourself by the chef. I ordered on their touch screen system. I didn't see an option for take out. I went and sat down to wait, remembered and ran to the window before he prepared anymore food, which thankfully was just a salad so far. He gave me a to go box to put the plated salad in so I did. I got some upset head shakes even though I apologized several times.

Yelp
This place was really cute and they had both indoor and outdoor seating, which I appreciate. It's also located in the funk zone. The pita bread dish I got was tasty but the flavors were also pretty light so I didn't feel like the flavors stood out much. Also, they sautéed the mushrooms really well and seasoned them nicely. The service was relatively slow considering that we were the only people there, but it was still alright.
google avatar

Yelp
This was our first time trying Nook. Definitely liked that on either side you have a choice of Lama Dog Brewery, Topa Topa brewery and in the room with Topa Topa was a winery as well (did not catch the name). The food was amazing. We got the Nook burger and the Halibut Tostada. The fries were perfectly crispy and the burger was nice and juicy. The halibut tostada really light and fresh. Perfect quick bite while grabbing a beer. I like to rate my places from 1 to 10. 1 through 3 - will never comeback 4 through 5.8 - will come back if someone I'm with wants to try the spot 5.9 though 7.0 -will come back 7.1 through 9.9 will make an effort to come back and I would recommend the spot 10.0 is the best place! (Haven't had a 10 because there is always a better place out there. My rating for this place is 6.8 (Will you come back? For sure!) My Yelp rating is regarding the service, the experience and the quality of food or beverage.

Yelp
The Nook has some of the best fries in town. The Nook has a very decadent burger called the Blue Cheese Tortilla Wrap. It's exactly how it sounds wrapped in a crispy tortilla. Plan a nap if you eat this in one setting. My typical goto's are the Nook Burger, Loaded Tots and Quesadilla.
google avatar

Vanessa D.

Yelp
Loved this place! It is nestled in the funk zone with a walk up window for ordering. Be sure to check out the specials before ordering! The Nook burger and truffle fries were delicious! Huge burger and flavorful fries! The tacos, Mac n cheese and other sandwiches looked amazing too! I'll be coming back to try other food choices!
google avatar

Eliz M.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Decent food. Taco Tuesdays are the screaming deal. Love the pretzel bites.

Afshin A.

Yelp
We tried the burgers and Mac and cheese. Poor quality food. Felt like frozen food got defrost.
google avatar

Sophie T.

Yelp
this is more like a 3.5 rounded up to a 4! i wouldn't say it was bad by any means. we came here for a bday celebration and it was.. alright! u order through a window and they give you a buzzer to pick up ur food when its ready and you just sit wherever. they did also forget one of our orders and the upgrade on one of the fries to truffle but they fixed it once we pointed it out i got the grilled ribeye steak sandwich and asked for it medium but it came more erm... medium-well/well done. it still tasted good don't get me wrong LOL but i also asked for truffle fries and all you can really taste is pesto and cheese. i can tell the fries were nicely fried though- they were fat, crunchy outside and soft inside. i would prob just ask for sweet potato fries next time! ambiance is very nice though you get the friendly open pub/bar vibe and it's super casual. i wouldn't go super out of my way to come here but it's nice to hit once in a while w friends!
google avatar

Kimya K.

Yelp
Cool spot to hangout. Truffle fries SMACK. Nook burger mid though. Fast service which is always nice.
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
Located inside Lama Dog, the Nook provides patrons of Lama Dog a terrific option for food. Serving mainly burgers and fries, you can't go wrong with any to pair with your beer. I got the lama burger with truffle fries ($1 upgrade) and I was pleasantly surprised with how juicy the burger was. The patty was so juicy and the bacon was terrific. I love how the brioche bun held its integrity too. I was highly recommend getting the chipotle aioli to put inside your burger. The fries were great but a little on the salty side. I guess that's why you have your beer to drown out the saltiness. All in all, the Nook serves up great burger options while you enjoy your beer at Lama Dog.
google avatar

Johanna B.

Yelp
We actually had a bit of a hard time finding the place since the outside was the icon of a dog and nook had a different logo. It had a really cute sitting area outside where you could sit with your pets and a kind of trendy American upbeat bar/eating area inside. The food was really delicious and filling. The tempura cauliflower was a good appetizer and the grilled salmon salad very balanced! The salad has a soft citric flavor (not harsh to tummy or throat like most citric dressing) which really paired well with the almonds, strawberries and really made the combination of savory and sweet work. The veggie burger was very average beyond meat burger, but the fries really were too oily and flavorless. TLDR nice aesthetic, bring your pet good food except the fries
google avatar

Cat N.

Yelp
I was hoping to eat here, I had to leave as I was sitting outside with my 2 well behaved dogs and a man came to my table harassing me for having dogs at a restaurant, totally out of the blue and uncalled for, this patio at Lama Dog is supposed to be dog friendly - coexistence is a good thing,, if you don't like dogs at least don't be rude , specially IF they are not even close to you. I am looking forward to go back and try Nook . I appreciate dog friendly spots
google avatar

Jessica F.

Yelp
It took a third time in Santa Barbara visiting from LA to discover this place and I wish I knew about it from the start. I mean, every menu item sounded amazing so be prepared for a tough decision. We landed on the turkey burger and the chicken sandwich. The turkey burger was SO spot on, I can only imagine how the other burgers taste and will be back for that. The textures between the fried onion, avocado, perfectly cooked burger, and all the sauces were to die for. The chicken sandwich was solid but will admit it could have used more pimiento and a more moist piece of chicken. In addition to the amazing food, it's located by a brewery, winery, and bar so you have your pick of drink! Will 100% be back to try other burgers, their mac, & quesadillas!
google avatar

Yelp
I go to Lama Dog way too often, which means I eat at the Nook a lot! You order at the first window, get a table buzzer, wait for your order while you enjoy a bevvy, and pick up your order when the buzzer goes off at the other window. Sometimes you bus your dishes yourself, other times someone comes by and picks it up from your table. I've had the turkey burger, tater tots, sweet potato fries, regular fries, truffle fries, pork belly quesadilla, fish tacos, vegan burger, and shrimp salad, but more often than not if I'm having a meal here, I get the spicy fried chicken sandwich. I always ask for no cheese because I'm lactose intolerant and they've removed it every single time without fail which is awesome...and I've eaten a lot of their fried chicken sandwiches. Always a hefty portion and I'm never hungry after (and I eat a lot). For about a year, maybe summer of 2021 until this summer, they switched from their lovely thicker steak-like fries to skinny fries. So glad they switched back to thicker fries with more substance!! Service is usually good every time I've gone, which includes peak weekend hours. Prices have gone up since 2019, but that's COVID life and inflation. I like how they have something for everyone, and they also have daily specials and sometimes cookies and pretzels. Food goes great with whatever you're drinking at Topa Topa or Lama. So glad The Nook stayed and didn't change into some other establishment.
google avatar

Anna G.

Yelp
I consider myself a turkey burger connoisseur. Let me tell you that this was the best turkey burger I have ever had! It's packed full of flavor. I'll be dreaming about it until the next time I can make it back to SB. Sadly, I dove right into it and did not get a picture.

Regina P.

Yelp
My entire family left this place with smiles and full stomachs!! I ordered the llama burger and it did not disappoint. It had BBQ sauce, green chile stuffed with mozzarella cheese, grilled onion, and bacon. It was absolutely delicious and a good portion. The fries were a wedge type and they were also delicious. We also enjoyed the pretzel and cheese as our appetizer it was GIANT and worth the price. The ambience is amazing, with the outdoor indoor seating and the wonderful decorations and overall happy people

Yelp
Sadly the worst pizza in Santa Barbara. Flavors and sauces tasted like gym socks. I had the pork pizza with pineapple and I ate it... but every bite I was seriously disappointed. Crust was so dense and flavors so unappetizing. So many great choices in town. This was unfortunately really bad. I hope they try it and change it.

Jeffrey B.

Yelp
I have followed Chef Amador ALL over SB during the last 7 years. His pedigree is awesome, and he just keeps trying new things!!! His current venue, The Nook, @ Lama Dog is a huge hit. And the new pizza oven is a great addition. He has a gift for food and anything on the menu is crave-worthy! The association with the GREAT brewery is 5 stars. Get yourself in there! It is happen in' in de Funk Zone!!! Dr. B

Yelp
My cycling club did a 100 mile ride from Glendale to Santa Barbara. After the ride we needed burgers and beers like nobody's business. I found this place on yelp and it looked good. It as better than I could have hoped! The burgers were perfectly cooked. The different burgers available were complex with out being TOO fussy. The truffle fries were outstanding. I would go back without hesitation; just an absolutely top shelf burger. If I had one issue, it was that the menu was difficult to read for me. I remember it as being white on black, on a chalkboard, all the words crammed in, and I think all caps. Basically, it was a challenge to take in everything, so I just chose the burger named after the restaurant (which was fantastic). Also, they had tots, which I would have preferred to fries, but I never saw them on the menu. A small bother for an otherwise awesome meal.

Kathleen B.

Yelp
Good food and drink. Sandwiches, sausages, fries, soup, etc. nice little outdoor area as well as large indoor space. Parking can be a challenge.

Ramona G.

Yelp
Nook is a food stand that's located inside Lama Dog in Santa Barbara. My family wanted to go for some beer and I was happy that they had food available at Nook since I don't drink beer. They have a huge German Pretzel that's bigger than the size of my face! It's $6 and comes with Beer Cheese and Beer Mustard Dip! It was pretty bomb and I'd recommend it! I want to learn how to make pretzels from scratch now!

Erik M.

Yelp
Located between two breweries, Nook has you covered for food. I've been there twice and both times got the fried chicken sandwich and it's always so good. The service is prompt and professional. I really like the small space and convenience to get a beer from Lama Dog or Topa Topa.

Yelp
My wife and I were in Carpinteria and took a bus trip up to Santa Barbara. The Nook is located next to one of the best beer bars we visited in Santa Barbara. They have a pretty extensive menu and I ordered the Rockfish tacos. They were $15 and took quite awhile after we ordered them to come out. I sipped on a Pliney the Elder outside on a nice patio and three tacos came out after our cool buzzer thing went off announcing that they were ready. The tacos were pretty small, but the were tasty enough. A nice sauce on top, but after having fish tacos for $5 a piece in Carpinteria at Teddy's by the Sea, I was a little let down. I think if I came back, the burgers looked really good, and I would try one of those. They also only use one tortilla per street taco, I thought it could have used another. Not bad at all, but just nothing special, like I was expecting.
google avatar

Audriana N.

Yelp
Large beer selection, good wine selection. The burgers were KILLER. Fries were great! Easily one of the best burgers I've had. Don't bother with the pretzel though.
google avatar

Vicki L.

Yelp
I got the pork belly quesadilla, and I would highly recommend it. It came with just the right portion, and the meat was perfectly flavored. Each piece is the perfect size to finish in two bites so that it won't fall apart as you devour it. There are some seatings both inside and outside, and there is a parking lot at the end of the street that lets you park for free.

Brian C.

Yelp
Just grabbed a few pizzas for the office crew from the owner Michael and they were absolutely killer - we had the Magic Mushroom which truly was a magical experience, I almost forgot what type of mushrooms I was actually eating. Really a topping filled pizza with goomba goodness. Also chowed down on the Pig Out which was filled with pepperoni on every millimeter. It has a hint of garlic which really brings the whole pizza together, imagine swimming in a pool of meats and sensation smells. Plenty of food, as three of us split two pizzas, one was so full he called it for the day and had to go home and nap. Thanks a ton Michael!!
google avatar

Roge S.

Yelp
Great place. It's a kind of food window in between two breweries. So, you can order food, then decide which place to actually sit and eat (& drink). The lady at the counter could have been a little friendlier, but other than that, the food was good, prepared quickly, I would come here again without hesitation. A lot to choose from, to. Something for everyone.

Hayley S.

Yelp
I love topa topa and llama so much, when I moved here a few years ago I was stoked that the food was actually good as well! Was my go to spot to bring friends and family visiting. But my husband and I have both had food poisoning after eating here on separate occasions (seafood burger, fish tacos) It's truly such a bummer because the food used to be so good and I now feel like I have to eat before I go to topa/llama. I'm so sorry to post this but I feel like someone needs to know!

Yelp
Good vegan options. Excellent fries. Located near two good taprooms. Went two nights in a row.
