"My mom and I do just that the next morning, launching paddleboards from the beach of our hotel, the North Hero House. Opened in 1891, it predates even Hero's Welcome."

"Just over an hour south of Montreal, the North Hero House Inn and Restaurant is another Lake Champlain Islands favourite. The fare is straight-forward New England comfort food (clam chowder, anyone?) done right, with options like a burger made with locally-raised beef, topped with Cabot Vermont cheddar, and house-made pickles. Then there’s pork tenderloin crusted with blue cheese from the nearby Boucher Family Farm, served with whipped sweet potatoes, and honey-glazed roasted beets." - Heather Platt

My wife and I came by for an overnight trip on the way to NY to adopt our puppy back in April. Our stay was amazing and we can’t wait to return! The food and room was perfect! We had a larger room in the actual house on the second floor and it was amazing. The living room was attached with a hall and had a cozy fireplace with views of the lake with a porch. The staff were so friendly and welcoming! Both my wife and I were amazed at the quality of food (we went on a night for wings!) and loved the flavors and cook of the food. Dessert was equally as delicious. Not to mention the great selections of beer and cocktails! We can’t wait to return later this summer and enjoy the bar/restaurant across the street.

A friend of mine Jules and I were just there this past weekend for a wonderful breakfast. I can't say enough wonderful things about the staff, especially the following people: Robert, Greg, Eileen and Sonja. The service was AMAZING, great personalities, and the food (Quiche) was INCREDIBLE. What a wonderful place. Thank you so much.

Awesome food choices, today for Mothers day Brunch. Everything was delicious. Service was great! The atmosphere and ombiaunce was perfect. My family enjoyed ourselves very much! We would recommend this place to any and everyone we know.

There was a constant banging noise coming from around our room. Sounded like work being done or something. It’s 9:00 and it’s still going on. I called downstairs but got no one, just the answering machine. After a while we figured it was the swinging door to the kitchen. It should be quiet after they close, I hope, but it’s well past nine and it’s still going. Don’t take room 204 if you want to get some rest.| The restaurant was good and the food delicious. Pricey though.

As a local who regularly dines at the restaurants on the islands, I was quite disappointed with the Mother's Day experience. The website didn't mention that there would be a $64 per person buffet, as we were expecting the usual menu. My wife, who has a gluten allergy, found only a few items she could eat. Personally, I never opt for buffets, so it felt like a significant waste of money. Instead, I had a Ceasar salad the size of square saucer. Swapping beer options monthly personally drives me crazy, especially when they previously had a few porters and stouts available. Consistency is key.

The friendliest and most welcoming staff I’ve ever encountered at a hotel. From front desk, to kitchen staff, bartender, waitstaff…everyone went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. Very cool Inn I’m a very cool location. We will definitely go there again.

Google
Simply wonderful. Spent New Year's Eve there, and it was like being in a movie. Dinner was a delight with fireworks, our room was so comfy, and we loved it. The owners were in attendance, and solicited opinions and comments. It was honestly a perfect evening.

Google
A nice winter getaway, fireworks and superb dining! Service was excellent and friendly. It's a fun place to spend two days watching the snow fall in mid Winter. All the house staff made us feel like being in the Newhart TV show! Entertaining and nice guests to socialize with!

Yelp
Had a wonderful dinner last night at the North Hero House. We were seated promptly with a beautiful view of Mt. Mansfield across Lake Champlain. I had the special Baked Haddock with Lobster stuffing. Hubby had the French Dip. Topped off with Lemon Cake to go. Service was spectacular with very attentive and personable waiter. We liked it so much we made reservations for Mother's Day Brunch.

Yelp
I have been dining at this restaurant for over 15 years and recommended it highly to everyone I knew; it was always an exemplary dining experience. Once it was sold to new owners, I had hoped that the food would still be excellent, but unfortunately, this was not the case. I have dined there three times since the new ownership and have been incredibly disappointed in both the food preparation and the customer service. The first time, I requested a medium well burger, and it was brought out rare, dripping bloody juices. The replacement burger they brought out was overcooked and dry. The next dinner attempt was pork kebabs, and I thought they were very tasty, until we noticed they were raw on the inside. The server replaced them with equally uncooked kebabs, which I offered to just finish cooking at home, as to not waste the food, which I did. We decided to give them one more try weeks later, and I ordered the pork kebabs again, explicitly explaining the last visit, and requesting they be cooked through. Nope, they were raw in the center AGAIN. The attached photo is from those kebabs. I contacted both the restaurant manager and owner to share my concerns and experiences, and no response at all. I will not be returning.

Yelp
The beet salad was superb (5 stars) and the setting was wonderful (also five stars). So, why a three-star rating? Two factors: First, the shrimp and lobster scampi was positively swimming in butter. Second, the service was, to put it kindly, subpar. I put my empty wine glass to the edge of the table nearest to the server and there is sat for over twenty minutes. Honestly, an empty wine glass should be a big red flag to a server which screams, "You must ask this guest immediately if he would like another glass." From a guest perspective, it was annoying. From a restaurant owner's perspective, it was lost sales. Do better.

Yelp
Amazing dinner at the the North Hero House. Ribeye followed by cheesecake for me and Lobster Shrimp Scampi and Mascarpone for my wife. Wonderful location on Lake Champlain, great ambience and service.

Yelp
Be aware that their discount offers at the Inn are to very specific dates, and not all of the staff is knowledgeable about discounts. The rooms are adequat, but very little storage. The mini-split air conditioning unit was not effective on a very hot day. The free breakfast at the main restaurant is extremely good. The dinners at the main restaurant are uniformly overpriced, and of poor quality. There was little attention to proper seasoning and plating of meals. They seem to be able to fill tables at dinner, so they likely stopped caring about quality. The disparity between breakfast and dinner was striking. We will not be returning.

Yelp
We ate lunch at the new Pier Bar at the North Hero House, it was excellent! I had their house burger, cooked perfectly, charred on the outside, a perfect medium on the inside. Delicious!! It was served with what I think were their homemade chips, I couldn't stop eating them. The service and the atmosphere were also great. We'll be going back.

Yelp
I would rate the hotel 3 1/2 stars and the pier restaurant comes in at 5 stars for me. The hotel - older style rooms and while the view and location are top notch some fundamentals like WiFi and televisions (30 inch maybe??) could stand to be updated. The room decorations while Vermont and northeast style also need updating for general cleanliness perception and purposes (rugs and quilted bed spreads). I was also disappointed that one of the pictures suggests there is a hot tub but it is no longer there and hasn't been for some time. The picture should be removed. We were also there at a time when a water main broke and there was a water boil advisory. Upon check in we were not provided with alternative, bottled water. I understand they had some and I don't think we should have had to ask for it. The restaurant was excellent. Great views and the service with our waitress may have been the best waitress we ever had. Personality! The food was also outstanding especially given the limited foody places in the area. We had the bbq brisket and lobster rolls. Personally, I think the roll used is too thick and I prefer traditional New England style, butter/grilled bun. I also prefer butter on the lobster roll versus something as powerful as the aioli but it was delicious. I just like to stick to traditional for lobster. One note : $32 per lobster roll at market price is the most I have ever paid for a roll and I seek out rolls all summer long! Too much out of principle for me and it seemed like at the price the customer should be told the market/surge price up front. If I had been I wouldn't be writing this comment. The bbq is too rate. I smoke a lot of brisket and the pier surpasses what I put out at home. I had to speak with the cooks to understand their process and learn a few tips. Again, friendly and great employees. All in all, I would definitely go back to both the restaurant and the inn. The inn more so since there are few choices on the island.

Yelp
Overall I enjoy the ambience of the Pier Bar at North Hero House. The drinks, lobster roll, and pulled pork are very good. However their "reservation" system is a disaster and is sure to negatively impact peoples' dining experience until they fix it. We called a day in advance to make a reservation for 10 people. Their website explicitly says they accept reservations for parties of 8 or more. Unfortunately they did not honor this and when we arrived hungry and ready to eat we were told we'd have to wait 45 minutes, very smugly and with no apology. Very much unacceptable! We weren't the only ones made to wait like this, either. The live music was also a bit too loud, and overwhelmed us while we dined. It's a nice place to be but this kind of service leaves much to be desired.

Yelp
This review is tough to write and personal for me. I'm committed to honesty and integrity in all my reviews. I was the sous chef of this place early in my career. It's a beautiful well kept property in one of my favorite parts of Vermont. I will start by saying the two gentlemen that own this place are first class and we're great to work for. The following is simply an honest account of my most recent dining experience. They are understaffed, I'm starting with this because it lead to some of the confusion. We had to change our reservation as a result of staffing. Then we continued to receive text updates that were incorrect about our reservation. When we got to the restaurant it was confusing to check in for our reservation. They did seat us 10 minutes early. Our waitress was friendly but very busy. We had to ask for bread and didn't get it until after we ordered and finished our app. The salt shaker on our table didn't work so my father went to another table to get a different one. When he went to salt his food the top came off and about a tbsp of salt spilled all over his dinner. When I told our waitress she laughed...... That was all........ The Calimari was ok but the sauce being put under the fried calamari made it soggy .My wife and father ordered the summer grilled chicken. It looked like a 5 oz chicken breast in a bowl of soup there had to have been at least a cup of sauce and was overly lemony. There were 2 fingerling potatoes and they were not roasted. The seasonal veg was literally a 1/4 piece of corn on the cob. I ordered the faro island salmon. They were the same pre boiled fingerling potatoes that were in the chicken and there was no duck fat, they were dry. Seasonal vegetable was the same 1/4 piece of corn on the cob and the dill cream sauce tasted like dill mixed into sour cream. The salmon was a tail cut piece and could not have exceeded 5 oz. It was 4 bites. It was cooked correctly. My step mom ordered the watermelon salad. It was literally just a piece of seedy watermelon cut into pieces with 2 cherry tomatoes and a sprinkle of feta, then balsamic reduction? Not in the menu description. To sum up our meal, we were all still very hungry when we were finished. The food we ordered was not true to the description on the menu and the appitizer portion was larger than the entre portion, the waitstaff was friendly but inexperienced ...Guys....what happened to this place?? I was excited to see how you were doing and instead of leaving full and smiling I left fustrated and hungry. I really need to emphasize that for the longest time this place was great. I have told so many people to visit you. I honestly hope you were just having an off night because to be blunt you are just simply so much better than this. I wish you all the best. Please reach out if you have questions. I'm happy to provide more specific detail if you are interested. I hope you are able to absorb my feedback as constructive and it helps in some way to overcome whatever challenges you are having.

Yelp
Went here on a double date and had an absolutely FANTASTIC meal. Best martini I've ever had, delicious food all around, and very fast and friendly service. Can't wait to go back when the weather is warmer!

Yelp
This is a review only for the Steamship Pier Bar and Grill (which is separate from the restaurant). Whatever you need to do to find an excuse to go to North Hero on a Wed. through Sun., do it! Beautiful views of the lake. Craft beer flights, friendly service, and O.M.G. the lobster rolls! These are truly a thing of beauty! No mushy reconstituted previously frozen lobster salad here! These are big chunks of claw meat with a lovely (not too heavy) tomato aioli sauce on a perfectly toasted buttery bun! Complemented by coleslaw and your choice of either chips or potato salad. Market price today was quite reasonable. This was the best lobster roll I've ever had and all other lobster rolls I eat from now on will be measured against these. They are truly the gold, err platinum, err onyx standard of lobster rolls. The other menu items looked delightful as well, but I'm afraid I won't be ordering them any time soon, because lobster rolls! If the weather is nice, I highly recommend sitting in one of the big Adirondack chairs out on the grassy pier to drink in the lake and the mountains (and the craft beers)!

Yelp
My friend and I came here for lunch today after visiting a winery. It came recommended by the young lady working at Snow Farm Winery. The outdoor seating is very nice as it's right on the water. It was a windy day so it wasn't ideal but still good. We ordered the Wicked Maple Dry Rub Wings which were quite good. For lunch I had the Pork Belly BLT which wasn't to my liking. Very large chunks of Pork Belly and it seemed like a vinegar based salad instead of just Ice Berg Lettuce, which is what I'd prefer. The Fries were pretty good as well. I'd come back but I'd opt for something else on the lunch menu as the BLT wasn't for me. If you're looking for a cool spot on the water I'd check it out.

Yelp
Looks great going by. Lovely pier, beautiful view. We actually turned around and went back. We're seated right away. Then it went downhill. Our waiter didn't seem to know about on tap beer or specials, we heard them from another waiter at a different table. Placed our orders, ahi tuna sandwich medium and veggie burger both with fries. When we received them, the tuna was practically raw and the fries with both orders were cold. Now, mind you, we were about 10ft from the kitchen so they couldn't have cooled that much enroute. Overall really disappointed, wouldn't go back.

Laura M.

Yelp
Pier bar - Location - 5 Stars. Food - 2 stars at best. I wish they would just do a better job... I don't think food items are cooked to order except French fries. Brisket, pulled pork, fish, Mac n cheese, all cold upon service and dried out. I don't think the Cambro units are keeping the hot food items hot people! Must be preparing hot foods in main kitchen at the Inn and sending it down to the shore. You all should rethink how you prepare and serve the food. It needs to be served hot.... Maybe check/monitor your food temps? Service - OK.... But I guess we're a captive audience because of the pristine location! We may or may not be back.

Yelp
Reviewing the restaurant (I haven't stayed at the Inn): The best game in town. A creative menu of delicious meals, many made with fresh, locally grown ingredients from North Hero House's own garden. Stunning waterfront views of Lake Champlain with the mountains in the distance (get a porch table!). Friendly and attentive staff. Worth a drive, and definitely a special place to create some happy memories.

Yelp
Had been looking forward to visiting the Pier Bar but was underwhelmed. Really, much ado about nothing. Food and beverage was very average but not priced that way. Asked if blackened fish tacos could be made with less seasoning and was told fish had already been seasoned and cooked earlier in the day; not freshly cooked? Atmosphere was fine but marred by wandering dude who thought no one noticed the burning cigarette he carried around. Server was young and trying but the large cud of gum in her mouth was visible and distracting when she talked. Bright spot was dessert. Won't be rushing back.

Yelp
We were riding in the rain on a motorbike, desperately seeking shelter. Then, we found this gem! They gave us a cozy room on the water. We got there around 8 and the kitchen was about to close. They gladly took our order to go, including two bottles of wine. Good prices for dining and the first night was less than $100. On a side note, the food from the main dining room was delicious. I recommend the mussels. They also serve an amazing breakfast included with your stay. The second night was almost $200 and we had to move to the main house. Nice bathtub, but the rooms across the street are better. We ate at the pier on the second day and the food was good, but not great. Wish we could have stayed longer. But the price doubled so we had to keep rolling. Overall, great experience!

Yelp
Had our honeymoon here 20 years ago. Dont worry, this review is not going to be that old. We are old but this review is really about our current stay. I should add that we have stayed here a few other times but all of these times were before yelp. Ok. Still with me? Here comes the review of our stay for our 20th anniversary: Great place. Breakfast was included in the price and was awesome. Lots of fresh and ripe fruit, eggs, potatoes, bacon, ham, pancakes, bread, cereals, Danishes, yogurt, and much more. They have a canoe and kayak to rent. Also DVDs to borrow and play on your tv. A hot tub and lawn area with chairs out front. Room included a gorgeous patio and jacuzzi tub. It was all well maintained and clean. Friendly staff were super helpful in keeping us entertained. Hope to be back for our 30th and 40th maybe even 50th anniversaries as well.

Yelp
There are very few fine dining establishments in and around the Lake Champlain islands, so if you're looking for an excellent meal north of Grand Isle, definitely put the North Hero House Restaurant on the list. The setting is beautiful, the service is warm and welcoming, and the food and drinks are quite good. The poached pear salad, a dinner special, was one of the best salads I've had the pleasure of eating. Most salads overdo it on the greens, which can often be tough or tasteless. Not these Vermont greens! Each bite was good to the last mouthful, expertly dressed with homemade vinaigrette. The staff accommodated my gluten allergy with aplomb, and many of the dishes on the menu are inherently gluten free, or can be made gluten free. My chicken piccata was delicious, and the portion size let me have a second meal of leftovers that heated up quite nicely the next day. (The to-go containers are microwave safe.) My husband thoroughly enjoyed his pasta Bolonese and his bowl of New England clam chowder. The wine list is well curated, and the prices are reasonable. Parking can be an issue, as the small lot fills quickly, but overflow parking can be found behind the church next door. Just follow the signs.

Yelp
Was recommended to try this place by a South Hero local who used to work here. It's set in an idyllic location on the water. There's no fuss to the place. They have some drinks, some food and a view. The actual restaurant is across the street from North Hero House Inn. Our waitress wasn't the best but she got the job done and apologized for being somewhat absent. We were seated quickly and enjoyed watching the boats and water while we ate and drank. I had the daiquiri, which was tasty. We also ordered the shrimp cocktail. As people who can get local shrimp back home the price was a bit steep but I can't deny they shrimp were perfectly cleaned, cooked and chilled and the shrimp size was good. We both ordered the lobster rolls. My husband had coleslaw and chips and I had the potato salad on the side. THOSE LOBSTER ROLLS! The bread is grilled and both crusty and soft with butter. It's filled to overflowing with delicious lobster and then given a little tomato aioli which was not overpowering. The potato salad was also very good. My husband got a chocolate shake as well. So glad we tried this place. Such a gem.

Yelp
This a review of dinner only Ordered PEI mussels, beef capriccio, chowder, and scallops for the main. Raspberry crisp for dessert Beef was dominated by the balsamic and small. I wouldn't recommend it Chowder was over salted and had ham in it Mussels were good although they lacked the ginger indicated in the description. There was some ham in there as well Scallops were seared on one side and had wonderful texture. Sauce was surprisingly good - I didn't know how sopressata would go with mint pesto. It's not clear why some many of these dishes needed some ham additive. Raspberry crisp had very little crisp. This likely a beholder thing but I like to have equal proportions. This was essentially sweetened raspberry stew with ice cream and some sprinkles of oat crisp The location, as others have mentioned, is very nice and the staff were great. Just some small improvements in the food could dial this place up

Yelp
We were excited visit the Inn. The property and restaurant promised a lovely weekend. NOT!!! Our waterside room turned out to be along the main road. Trucks plow through at all hours of the day and night. The closet in the room was caked with dust as was the lamps and baseboards. Dinner was also dissapointing, service was slow and they just didn't seem to care. The servers were clustered around on thier cell phones.

Adam P.

Yelp
I stayed here over the long labor day weekend in the Knight Room and really enjoyed it. The property is stunningly beautiful and picturesque. The only downside to the location is that there really isn't much else going on. There weren't any operating taxi services or any restaurants (besides a couple of pubs) so venturing off the property was always a trek. If you're looking to have a relaxing weekend, this spot is definitely for you. If you're looking for somewhere beautiful to stay but have other stuff in the area to do, this place is NOT for you. I can't speak for the food because I never made it down the restaurant, but I'd definitely stay here again. I needed a zen/stress-free weekend and this spot really did it for me. I will absolutely stay here again. It truly is a writers paradise (at least in the summer time!)

Berlin B.

Yelp
This restaurant is the most amazing in Vermont! Colleen and Josh are the best in this establishment, I couldn't ask for any better. They were so accommodating to our needs, Josh even went out of his way to drop us New Yorkers home! Love this place, definitely recommend.

Meghan E.

Yelp
It was a bit bizarre reserving a table and having to pre-order our food. Then, when our food was served it was in to-go boxes. The waitress didn't even bother to get the boxes out of the plastic bag for us. It was our first time here and it was a disappointed because we travelled from Essex Junction, which is about an hour drive to eat out of to-go boxes. Not to mention I had to ask for water. That should be the first thing you bring to me without asking especially on a 90 degree day. Not entirely sure why this is the process but I would encourage management to change it. Overall the food was really good and the frozen drink was awesome!

Sarah P.

Yelp
These 1-3 star reviews are silly. Get over yourself: all hotels have a cancellation policy that is pretty iron clad. They do this because they make money through bookings, not on goods sold. So when people bail last minute on a reservation it effects their revenue. Of course they should charge you. This is common practice. This place is fantastic. Lovely check in process with a very sweet woman who was extremely helpful. We stayed in the Champlin room and it was everything we imagined and more. The view is breathtaking, the enclosed porch and hammock were so amazing, the bed was so comfy my boyfriend and I fell asleep immediately when we arrived and laid down. It's so clean and beautiful. Couldn't be happier - our anniversary was so special because of this place!

Charles H.

Yelp
Our "wine and dine" package in the Hazen room was very enjoyable. With its private screened porch, we had a wonderful view of the lake with the Green Mountains on the distant eastern horizen. Sleeping in a king bed with the sliding glass porch door open, serenaded by the gentle waves at night and cool breeze, was a welcome treat. The jetted bath tub with shower was a step above most hotel/motel accommodations. Our dinner in the restaurant was excellent, with a glass of good wine and expert help from the chef accommodating my wife's dietary restrictions. The dining room host lending my wife his cellphone flashlight to aid reading the menu was an added nicety. Erin, our very personable waitress, topped off our over-all dining experience. Add in the included full breakfast, and the dining portion of our stay was also very satisfactory. My only negative comment is that I felt it was a little pricey given the lack of other activities available on the Champlain Islands between summer and Vermont's specular leaf-peeping seasons.

Doug Z.

Yelp
I have to say the Dodds room was nice. The breakfast and service was terrible. I will not go back there again. Terrible. By the way this is my very first review for yelp. That's how bad it was.

Joyce T.

Yelp
Room: 3 stars Food: 5 stars The room we originally booked wasn't faced with the lake but had a nicer bathroom with a jacuzzi and a functional electric fireplace. The staff talked us into switching to a more expensive room by the lake, which indeed has a nice lake view but the bathroom was a bit out of shape - just a small shower place and a lousy shower head, and an out-of-order fireplace. We enjoyed a nice afternoon on the balcony watching the sunset. However, we should have had a better room for the money we paid for. After the owner's son came over to fix the fireplace in vain, the owner showed up shortly to help. Figuring that the fireplace was irreparable, the son kept asking the owner to move us to another room but the owner didn't agree. It's just an electric fireplace, no big deal, but considering that we tipped them big time at dinner, it's disappointing that they left only saying having a good night. The staff was friendly and helpful. We requested a mini fridge and it was delivered shortly. Dinner at their restaurant was the highlight of our stay there. We expected ok food at a remote place like this, but - wow, food was heavenly delicious. Two appetizers we had - asparagus and mussels - knocked our socks off. Caesar salad couldn't be more fresh. The parmesan crisp on the side was unforgettably good. The entrees - roasted chicken and halibut - were unbelievably delicious. Next time I'm stopping by is for the food. Compliments to the chef!

Megan H.

Yelp
In our recent overnight stay, we had both dinner and breakfast at North Hero House. It's so lovely to sit and look out at the lake. For dinner, I had the best scallops I've ever had. The house salad held the special treat of pickled ramps. There weren't a lot of breakfast options, which is just fine----the scrambled eggs were fluffy and the cranberry mini-muffin was so good that I asked for another. Thanks to the staff who are always great and accommodating in so many ways!

Laurie G.

Yelp
This is one of our "go to" places but the last few times we've been here it's been bad. Last night was the last straw, I don't think we'll go back! It was so bad I don't know where to begin. The porch was full of flies, my daughter ordered a daiquiri with extra whipped cream, the waitress said they couldn't make one so she ordered a margarita instead. Then the waitress brought her a daiquiri and said they made it special for her....they didn't put any whipped cream in it so we asked the waitress for some, she took the drink back, put some on and brought it back. This time it had a fruit fly sitting in the whipped cream which was quickly followed by a fly landing in it. I ordered the pork and asked for it to be well done, it came to me medium, tough and the sauce was awful so I ordered the pasta instead. That wasn't great either but I ate a bit of it and took the rest home to throw away because I felt bad for the waitress. Our calamari was awful and we told her we didn't like it. She took the full plate back saying "oh you didn't like it?" Never said oh I'm sorry and still charged us for it! Lastly, I wanted another drink but was never asked. This waitress was either new or just overwhelmed and it wasn't busy! We were really disappointed.

Laura B.

Yelp
Lovely! Terrific food and friendly, efficient service. We sat on the porch for the great view of the lake.

Granted there are not many restaurants of this caliber in the area, but if you don't mind the drive, it is absolutely worth it. We started with the Rhode Island Calamari, which had an interestingly seductive red and white sauce underneath that made the plate sing. We also shared two entrees: the Salmon Special and the Rack of Lamb, which had a killer Mint Yogurt Sauce that brought the dish to another level. Desserts really hit the mark as well. Bartender shakes a mean martini and gave us a generous pour with both my Old Fashion to start and wine with dinner. Our servers were charming. Truly a New York City caliber restaurant on an island in the middle of Lake Champlain. You must go. NOW!

Yelp
Told we had to rush to get a seat. Made it only to find 7 open tables and no one at the bar. We requested the bar and were told it was reserved. When I approached the bar tender, Bar tenders response was "thanks for your business, good night". Not a good experience from start to finish. Waitress good. Hostess & bartender had bad attitudes and didn't manage their business well.

Yelp
What a great place for a Sunday Corvette ride. We had forgotten about this place and drove up for lunch one Sunday. We are old and don't eat much any more so we ordered a couple of gin and tonics and split a lobster roll. Fantastic lobster roll and an awesome job of splitting and presentig the split order. Great drive up through the islands - excellent food and terrific service- even when busy.

Yelp
We only stopped in for a drink, but we will definitely be back in the future to try out the dining experience. They had seating underneath a tent, of just outdoors, and some lounge chairs along the distance of the pier. We had piña coladas, which hit the spot after an afternoon in the sun. Because of the outdoor seating, we were able to keep our dog with us. They're located on a nice quiet part of the waterfront. This is an awesome stop after a day of paddling / kayaking.

Yelp
I couldn't wait to write a review about this place. North Hero House is tucked away in the middle of Lake Champlain, but well worth the drive! My fiancee and I came here for a short weekend getaway and to see the fall foliage. We stayed in HS3, which is one of the Homestead Lakeview rooms that has a king sized bed and private porch, overlooking the lake. We woke up to a gorgeous sunrise, which was spectacular. The room was very cozy, relaxing and peaceful. Right across the street is the main inn and restaurant. The food was absolutely fantastic. All of the produce is supplied by nearby farms. The menu is seasonal and plenty of tasty options to choose from. The staff was very friendly, warm and welcoming. If sight-seeing is what you're after, there is plenty to do in nearby towns, like Burlington, VT. It's a 30-40 minute drive away, but very scenic and enjoyable. North Hero House is the kind of place that you'd want to make an annual retreat out of. I'd imagine that it's much busier during the summertime, which might account for why it was so quiet when we were there (late October). Either way it's fun to visit year-round. If you are looking for a romantic getaway, and some peace and relaxation, this place is simply perfect.

Yelp
Can't say enough about how wonderful our stay here was. The rooms are clean and well maintained. They staff was friendly and most helpful. The food was excellent, whether you eat at the pier bar or in the restaurant. The only downside was how crazy busy it is. That's a good problem to have but you should expect to have wait times. The view will easily offset any wait you might incur. Lovely place - hope to come back soon.

Yelp
Fantastic chowder & calamari. Generous shots. What more could you ask for?

Yelp
The lobster roll and fish tocos were amazing and eating them outside in the sun with our pup was the icing on the cake. Definitely looking forward to coming back soon.

Yelp
My mother and I had an absolutely wonderful experience here. The staff members were amazing and so accommodating to our requests and needs. Genuine hospitality and kindness is hard to come by these days and this restaurant surpassed all hopes. The food was wonderful and we couldn't have asked for a better dinner experience. The chicken piccata and the bolognese were phenomenal. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We had an excellent dinner here one night. I had the Clam Chowder, and it was very good. I was glad I got a whole bowl. I had the fish and chips and enjoyed them as well. The service was good too. I would definitely go back.

Yelp
Beautiful location on Lake Champlain combined with very comfortable lodging, excellent food, and outstanding service. I highly recommend the Chicken Piccata in the main dining room and the Lobster Roll at the Pier Bar. Very friendly staff, too! An excellent home base for a Lake Champlain cycling tour.

Yelp
My wife and I recently spent a holiday weekend here. We loved the place. We had a room across the street (Cove house) overlooking the docks and lake. The room was nice; had some very nice amenities, it had a very comfortable bed. IMO the room was a wee bit small, but the screened in porch with 2 chairs and a hammock was WICKED awesome and made up for it. To sit on the porch in the morning with a hot cup of coffee, &/or sit there at night with a drink as the sun set was just fantastic. I want to acknowledge, and praise the entire staff @ NHH! From the reception desk, to the entire wait staff, bar staff, maids, & pastry chef. Everyone we met there was genuinely nice and friendly. Even when (there several instances that I witnessed) where the guest(s) weren't being so nice( and I mean like being complete SCHMUCKS!) The wait staff maintained their pleasant and accommodating demeanor to the customer(s). So kudos to their professionalism. Anytime we had a question, or if you were just having a conversation with someone, they were always very pleasant, easy to talk with & forthcoming with answers, suggestions, and opinions. IMHO it's these small interactions that a customer has with the staff that can greatly affect( positively, or negatively) how people view a place of business. So a big OORAH and two thumbs up, to the people of NHH. The dinners we ate there, whether in the main restaurant or at the pier, we're all excellent. The breakfast buffet was also very good, the menu didn't vary, which was my wife's only complaint. For me, well I could've eaten the locally sourced bacon and sausage everyday no problemo! (& I did :-) )The thing we loved the most, and from what we could see that everybody loved as much, were the pastries! Theyre made there daily; the sticky buns are top notch. Do not pass up a sticky bun if there are any left. My wife said they reminded her of the ones her mom made for her as a child. ( BTW that is the highest compliments one pastry chef could give to another). We will return to the NHH.

Yelp
When we were looking for restaurants in Burlington, VT, this place kept popping up! We made the decision to try it even though it was a 45-minute drive away from where we were staying. It was well worth it!! We happened to go there during the weekend of North Hero's Great Ice. There was outdoor activities, including a frozen pond for ice skating, a chili taste-off, a pick-up hockey game, and the best general store that had everything in it. The restaurant was the perfect end to an already amazing day. We were able to dine in the covered porch area, which offered a spectacular view of Lake Champlain. We planned the dinner to watch the sunset. In addition to their very reasonably priced menu, a three course prix fixe menu was an incredible deal! The Caesar salad was fresh and the clam chowder was flavorful. The prime rib was enormous and juicy, the pasta bolognese was well prepared and delicious! Despite being beyond full we still ate through an ice cream sundae (with locally made ice cream) and a rich, moist chocolate cake! We are looking forward to our next trip to Burlington and to coming back to North Hero Hotel!

Yelp
The pier bar here is very cute. This is a great place to sit, relax and have a beer. The lobster rolls are very good.

Yelp
This place holds a special place in my heart. The muffins at breakfast are still warm and fresh; can't have just one. The food is simple but delicious and well prepared. The rooms are adorable, clean and comfortable; each one is different and have a country-cozy character. If you can, stay in a room with a balcony, the evenings are best spent there before bed. Morning tea and yoga stretches on the balcony with views on the lake are pretty amazing too. The lakeside views are wonderful, my favorite time there is summer and early fall. Just go there.

Yelp
This was a terrible place to eat. We ate at the Pier Bar down by the lake, and the manager Colleen (name on her nametag) was incredibly rude and dismissive. We waited to be seated for 20 minutes before being seen by the host. The food was overpriced and not good. Cheap, hard, stale potato chips with overdone chicken. We noticed that the manager and bartenders were drinking in the back of the bar as we approached to get drinks afterwards. It is illegal in Vermont to drink on the job while working, and we will be reporting this to the liquor board.

Yelp
First off we live in South Burlington so escaping just for dinner to the Champlain Islands is always a welcome occurrence in the summer time. The food is amazing and the view is just as good. My personal favorite spot to eat is at the bar with my husband. You get a few more insider tips from the bartenders, which is always fun.

Yelp
We made a spur of the moment decision to stop at North Hero Restaurant tonight and we're so glad we did. From the moment we entered the doors we were warmly welcomed by the enthusiastic manager, who accommodated us with a great seat in their main dining room. He described the wine specials offered this evening with such passion. Our server, Amanda, was very attentive and so helpful. She was really outstanding, as was our meal. I chose the prime rib 3-course special, which included soup, the entree and dessert. The clam chowder was incredible, as was the huge and well seasoned prime rib, and the fruit cobbler was truly memorable. My husband chose the iceberg salad and the pork tenderloin. Both were off the charts! We'll definitely be back the next time we're in these parts!
