Historic lakeside lodging with dining & 2 bars, plus activities including kayaking & boating. Overlooking Lake Champlain, this cozy inn spread over 4 buildings dates from 1891 and is 6 miles from the Alburg Dunes State Park. Airy, individually decorated rooms have private bathrooms, WiFi and cable TV; some have canopy or sofabeds beds, and screened-in porches with lake views and hammocks. Suites add Jacuzzi or claw foot tubs, as well as woodburners, coffeemakers and minifridges. Full breakfast is available. There's also 2 restaurants and 2 pubs, as well as a hot tub and a private beach. Activities include hiking, kayaking and fishing, and seaplane, boat or helicopter tours can be arranged (surcharge).
"My mom and I do just that the next morning, launching paddleboards from the beach of our hotel, the North Hero House. Opened in 1891, it predates even Hero's Welcome."
"Just over an hour south of Montreal, the North Hero House Inn and Restaurant is another Lake Champlain Islands favourite. The fare is straight-forward New England comfort food (clam chowder, anyone?) done right, with options like a burger made with locally-raised beef, topped with Cabot Vermont cheddar, and house-made pickles. Then there’s pork tenderloin crusted with blue cheese from the nearby Boucher Family Farm, served with whipped sweet potatoes, and honey-glazed roasted beets." - Heather Platt
