LA Filipino Restaurant Noypitz Opened a Third Location in Little Tokyo - Eater LA

"Los Angeles is well into a Filipino food explosion. There’s dazzling pop-ups, favorite brick-and-mortars, even the Filipino fast food chain Jollibee signed a lease for a future location in the Financial District last month. Joining the wave is The Noypitz Bar & Grill. The Downtown restaurant opened August 2 in the Little Tokyo Galleria on Alameda and Third. Noypitz took over the recently shuttered Atlas, and the switchover was a fairly quick one. The interior appears similar to the former lounge, but now a traditional menu is in place with standards like pork sisig, crispy lumpia rolls, chicken adobo, pancit canton noodles, and the sinigang na baboy with stewed pork ribs boiled in a tamarind broth with vegetables. Prices range from $10 to $20. This is the restaurant’s third Southern California location. Owners Larry Calonzo and Michael Kwan opened Noypitz West Covina in April 2018, then Calonzo opened the Cerritos location independently in November 2018. Calonzo’s new space is massive at 5,000 square feet. It seats 208, and they’ll bring the same formula as their other locations with live entertainment, DJ’s, and karaoke during later hours. Since taking over a Downtown lounge, they’ll make use of the glowy full bar while adding Filipino beers to the menu. Hours are Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday to Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m." - Mona Holmes

Google
Great filipino restaurant for your special occasion, as of recent they start having like all you can eat buffet on Sunday. For only $39 you will have the lobster and roast beef, on top of over a dozen different varieties of delicious Filipino dishes. The owner was very nice and the staff are really helpful. The food was fresh and very good. I would recommend this place.

Been there two times and food has been delicious along with great service. Last night we went as part of a Filipino and Mexican Food Fusion event and it was a Blast! There was a Red Carpet and many people attended along with Raven from the Band Redbone. We had a great time eating, singing, drinking and dancing!

I like the taste of the food but it took 30 mins to serve please improve the serving time… keep up the good work chef!

The food was amazing. I went the earlier today for the lobster buffet. I truly enjoyed myself. Great people working there. Definitely making this a go to place for me, my family and friends

If you love to sing and have a good time make sure to drop by with your friends and family and enjoy every thursday their karaoke night and Friday til sunday with the live band. The food here is authentic filipino so if you want to try a loud and different ambiance as you eat its time to come here at Noypitz.

Went to this restaurant around 1pm on saturday, not busy. Thank God! The egg roll is burnt on the outside, but the inside taste good.😋 the dinakdakan was unbelievably so freaking good. The rice was burnt, but I did not care because I was hungry. Pansit bihon is has shrimp, pork and some sausage i think. Patrick(the waiter) was great! Amazing service

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night and the place was packed. There was a band playing which was good, but it was way too loud that we had to scream at the top of our lungs to have conversations. Ordered crispy pata and lomi... Unfortunately, both were OK. Ordered chicharon bulaklak but it never came to our table. We had mango margarita drinks and they were good but weak in alcohol content. One thing I like is they validate parking and the ambience was good including the band and they're open til 2am!!!

Yelp
I came here for the bar experience, not so much the food for a last call drink for us. It turned out to be such a unique experience for me as it felt like I was transported back to the Philippines upon immediately entering this place. My partner and I ordered a bucket of beer. Red Horse and San Mig Light to be exact. A bucket of beer came out to $25. That's a steal for a night out in L.A. We sat in the bar, so we didn't have any issues waiting in a long line for a table. Because it was a Saturday, I believe we were able to catch a band here. The band was great. They sung a bunch of OPM songs that were in Tagalog (songs that I remember growing up to). I can't speak on behalf of the food as we didn't come here for that, so I can see the reason for a lot of the mixed reviews here.

Yelp
Walked in on a late Thursday night and they were having Karaoke and the dance floor was full of customers singing and dancing. Everyone was having a good time. Didn't get a chance to try the food but I had one the best lychee martinis EVER. Spacious Resturant and great for groups, or a quick drinl

Yelp
We dined on a Saturday evening for a friend's birthday. We were seated promptly. To be fair, when we arrived at about 6:30 pm the restaurant was empty, most of the lights were turned off and we were the only customers. That being said, the Filipino styled food was very good and presented well. Service was consistent, friendly and timely. Prices were reasonable. About 9 pm the restaurant started filling up and the rest of the lights were turned on. The better lighting made the restaurant feel more welcoming. I'm not complaining and simply making an observation. I have to comment on the parking. There is a large multi-story parking structure next to the restaurant that services several businesses. The only staff we observed in the structure was at the pay exit (expensive). We saw some of the rudest and most impatient drivers in the building. As we left a car stopped directly behind us. Probably a dozen cars lined up behind that car that wanted our space. That would be fine except all other cars would have to back up to let us out. So all those cars were blaring their horns at the first vehicle who acted oblivious. It took us nearly 20 minutes to back out. They getting onto Alameda St was even worse as traffic was blocked up for several blocks not allowing cars to exit. I told my hirers I would never drive a car there again even if a ride share would cost a heck of a lot more. Considering parking is part of the dining by experience, it's only fair to mention.

Yelp
Update your phone number! Almost impossible to order thru doordash. Order was never confirmed so I had to order somewhere else. And when I checked the app, order was still active and dasher was waiting for order.
google avatar

Kaida F.

Yelp
Came on a late Saturday night, decent amount of people, was sat immediately. Food wasn't worth the price they put it up to be (that being at least $20 per dish). The speakers for the band were way too loud, having to yell for any conversation with the waiter and my own family, only portions of the crowd seemed to actually enjoy the band. The waiter forgot to give our menus and didn't check up often. Once we decided we were finished eating, we waited a long time for the waiter to come back just to ask for the bill. Ended up with a stomach ache and headache afterwards.

Yelp
Wow, just spent almost 2 hours and our food was never started. Wound up canceling food and leaving. No explanation from them why it was taking so long.

Yelp
DO NOT GO HERE! FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. We were in dana point,ca visiting from out of town and was looking for some good pinoy food on the web. Saw noypitz website and it showed lunch buffet on sundays from 11-4Pm. We drove for an hour to get there just after 11 am. We went inside, no other customers and waited for around 15 minutes. no staff showed up to seat us although we hear people in kitchen. We checked their website to make sure we are at correct place and time for the buffet. The poster on their door says same thing, we were on time and right place. We were about to leave, a lady (manager i think) asked if we were there to eat (duhhhh- what stupid question is that?) .We said we were there for the buffet and she said they werent serving buffet anymore. We pointed their web advertisement and the poster on their door that says otherwise. and her answer: theres no buffet and we should have called first. What the %#@%^! f you advertise something that you are not going to follow then you shouldnt be in business at all. No wonder no one else was there.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday for the breakfast buffet and I was greeted with some mimosas and live music! The food was very delicious and hits the spot especially when you're craving Filipino food. Pricing is reasonable since there are a lot of options, you will be full! The workers were great and kept checking on us also. As for parking, it can be a challenge as it's street parking or garage parking depending on what is available. I think it's worth giving a try!

Yelp
This place is a disaster tonight. Waited to be ushered in for 30 mins. No waiters showed up to get our orders. Then we decided to go to the bar where two bartenders acting like theyre busy. They werent taking any orders from any customers so we finally decided to leave. I believe at least 20 people left and were kinda confused with the kind of treatment. This place should just close this disorganized/ mismanaged bar.

Yelp
The Noypitz Bar and Grill is fantastic! The Filipino dishes are authentic and packed with flavor. The atmosphere is vibrant, making it a great spot for a night out with friends or family. The live music adds to the fun vibe. Service can be a bit slow during peak hours, but the delicious food and lively ambiance make up for it. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the mood for some great Filipino cuisine!

Yelp
Love the bands! Great time and food and pulutan is yummy. Nice hang out spot to enjoy your weekend. Service is great as we know the owners. Great filipino music. Good time overall!

Yelp
We were craving Filipino food. I've driven by here a few times in the past and knew we had to try it. Everything looked amazing on yelp. Well, sad to say my husband and I were very disappointed. The food did not lol appetizing and was very cold. The lobster looked old and dry it just didn't look very appetizing. Besides the lumpia and pancit, everything else looked like mush.
google avatar

Nathalie B.

Yelp
Noypitz is a great spot for authentic Filipino cuisine! The food is flavorful, with generous portions that really hit the spot. Their crispy pata and sisig are must-tries, and the overall menu offers a great variety of Filipino favorites. The atmosphere is lively, and the service is friendly and attentive. Whether you're craving comfort food or looking to try something new, Noypitz delivers a great dining experience. Highly recommend!

I don't know also probably store bought Not very buffet like at all Only following was available Menudo (wasn't good) Cebuchon (wasn't good) Nilaga sabaw only Probably store bought lumpia Chicken Chop suey Lobster Daing is dying Rice Sad dessert like store bought cookies and chopped fruits and stale donut holes There was fighting behind the bar with two women and one man was listening making sure there wasn't going to be an actual fight There weren't any tacos as advertised There was no "many more"

Yelp
This place is and huge but the day we went it was empty during lunch hour just literally my party of 5. The food took too long given we were the only party in there. The food was okay could be better. I've had better ones for a better price, too.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
I could leave zero stars I would. We waited for 15 minutes in the front. No one acknowledging us . The Waitress finally walks up. I said can somebody seat us , she said we're very short staffed today. It's gonna take a really long time for the food to come out. I was so shocked . I said I guess we are not eating here , she said so sorry Sir . So we left. Unbelievable . Just close the business up if you can't handle the people coming in to eat . The worst service I have ever witnessed .
google avatar

Krissy R.

Yelp
Honestly, I didn't set any expectations with this restaurant. We were all surprised how delicious the meals were. We dined in at 12 noon on a weekend, it wasn't packed. There were only a number of tables available. The ambiance wasn't really inviting, dimlights all over. Parking structure is available next to the restaurant. They validate. Our favorites were: Sinigang, lumpiang shanghai and chicken bbq. The sinigang was the right sour we were looking for. Large portions overall. Pork sisig was just okay, it wasn't crispy enough and was missing the kick of taste. There was an automatic 20% service charge on our bill (party of 11). If you look up their FB, it's updated and has more information about their promos and shows.

Yelp
This review is for their food and service. This is my first time coming to this location since they closed their Glendale one. It's located in the Little Tokyo shopping plaza on the ground floor. There's a parking garage next to it that has tight parking spots unless you go to the higher floors. Came in on a Wednesday night and it was practically dead. There was an MC working the stage, but they didn't really do much to hype up the crowd. It basically turned in to a karaoke night. I gotta say, most of the people that went up on stage were very brave. Ok, the service was great. The staff attended to our every needs and checked in on us throughout. I was surprised at how good the food was. It was seasoned correctly and had very nice flavors. There's a big bar area with seating all around. I'm pretty sure if you come here on a weekend or even Thursdays, it would probably be hopping. I don't know if I would ever come back here only because of the location. But I would not be opposed to coming here for their food.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place for its Sunday buffet! Both the food selection and the atmosphere are excellent. They are one of the few places with lobster in its buffet, as well as roast beef, mashed potatoes, and mimosas. If you like Filipino cuisine, they do an excellent job with classic dishes such as adobo, caldereta, pancit, and cassava cake. There was a live jazz duo performing during the Sunday brunch, and the music made for quite a groovy atmosphere. It felt like being on a cruise ship or in a nice hotel restaurant. The staff are all very present and helpful. They all made sure we were enjoying our lunch. I will look forward to eating here again!
google avatar

Remus D.

Yelp
This review is for the brunch only. Opened at 11am. Not ready yet. Was able to start at 1130. Lobster came out close to 12. Able to get 1 piece. Have to wait close to 30 mins for next batch. Tasted very dry and old. Cochinillo is too cold. Some people are asking when the next batch is for the cochinillo, lady said in about 4 hours. Most of the food are cold. They will add 16% service charge automatically FYI. But there's still tip option at the bottom of the bill. Very misleading. In my opinion NOT worth it. Take your money elsewhere.

Yelp
We decided to go here since a relative wanted to try out Filipino food. The restaurant looks nice and clean. There is bar and two stages (for performances) too. The tables have white linen which a little bit fancy than other Filipino restaurants that I have been to. We had the following dishes: * Lechon Kawali - Crispy and yummy! We ordered steamed rice on the side. I like this dish the most. * Noypitz Pancit - A lot of meat & veggies. Very generous serving of protein. FIrst time I saw pancit with fried chicken on it! Definitely good for sharing. * Calamares - This was yummy! The first dish finished. The only thing that needs to be improved is the customer service. Looks like the restaurant was short-staffed. Our food took sometime to arrive and our water glasses took a long time to get refilled. We will still give this place a chance and try out their other dishes next time.

Yelp
Great place to watch Pinoy bands. We went here to support our friend Pia and Pandoy in their LA gig. It was a spacious venue that can seat a good amount of guests. Since we got there after dinner time, we only ordered cocktails and street food platter (fish ball, isaw etc). Their servers were attentive and friendly. Only gave 4 stars because i didn't get to try their main dishes.. will be back to watch another Pinoy performer and hopefully get to eat dinner there too.

Yelp
So, if you're coming here, don't go into the shopping mall looking for this place. You can find the entrance between the parking structure and the mall. I walked into the mall - exited and walked all the way around the building on the Alameda side. Another guy did the same thing. I'll get to him later. So, I walk in and I'm told the place is closed for a break. No sign. Nothing mentioned on Yelp and I didn't see a website nor anything stated on IG. The other guy was irked and left. I had plans to meet a friend there so I went into the mall to poke around. In other words, I waited. Place seems more like a bar or club that serves food. Not a restaurant that has a bar and club like entertainment. I will the place looks nice and the bar definitely looks well stocked with some good stuff. But I was there to eat so back on topic. Service was ok. The staff seemed to want to hang out and periodically check on the guests. There were only two parties. Not that it was a big deal as I would just wave someone down when I needed something. Not that the staff was right there - but they were close enough that they could see me motion to catch their attention. I'll clarify that I only waved them for refills and the check. Not like it service was bad. The food was ok. For me, I know this will sound bad but it felt like bar food for me. So, to explain - again, it felt like it wasn't a restaurant to me. More like a bar that served food. Not the other way around. I liked the calamari the best. For both taste and consistency. The others (see pics): fried rice was standard. The crispy pata and chicharon were on the bland side. I know you dip it in the sauces but I felt like the dishes needed seasoning before being deep fried. My opinion for my taste. Again, not bad. Ate all I could - decent serving sizes - my buddy took leftovers (crispy pata) as we both couldn't finish it all. He felt the food was ok too. Enough that he took it to go and not just leaving it to be trashed. We got there early. No entertainment though someone was setting up as we were leaving. I'll come back and check that out as well as the bar. But definitely not for the food.

Yelp
Would leave 0 stars. Visiting from Texas and they suck. Do not come here. They dead ass did not have the same prices from their menu. They tried to scam. Anyways.. don't come here

Yelp
Food, service and ambiance are all good. Thank you for the Good customer service we received from Dennis, Jenny Rodel & Abby. Food we ordered are all good 10/10 Happy Friday

Cleopathra D.

Yelp
WARNING : Sunday Buffet. Chafing Dishes Unlit : Cold food COLD Seafood A Fly hovering around roast beef & Lobster Dark dingy atmosphere , hardly anyone there. I don't even know why I didn't turn around at the door, but we gave them a try. And yes just tasting the food made me feel ill. They charged me for one person $40. instead of for two. They were upset and weren't even trying to listen when I explained to them, but I guess they already knew how under par their buffet was. I was there during a regular weekend night ordering from a menu - the food was good. So this was horribly disappointing
google avatar

Kris T.

Yelp
Had so much fun! I loved the lychee martini and had 5 for $30 shooters that were fantastic. The shrimp fried rice was so flavorful and moist that I ate it alone to complement my drinks. They were unfortunately out of sansrival, but the sinigang made up for it. The live band brought so much life to the space. Staff cleared out some tables to make a dance floor, and the performers brought up various people to dance on the stage. Great for big groups!
google avatar

Jeric L.

Yelp
The food is great, service is fast, cleanliness maintained (including restroom) & ambiance is fun! Highly recommended if you're in DTLA and craving for a home cooked Filipino meal. I was there for a mini event for a Filipino artist Nyoy Volante with Ja Ramos opening and it was fun!
google avatar

Anne M.

Yelp
Fun place with live music, yummy food and a lot of options, the service is great and friendly. My favorites are the lechon kawali, pancit, garlic fried rice, and the calderata!
google avatar

Berk S.

Yelp
Nice place to go for salsa/bachata(50/50) on Mondays. Great ambiance, cover is reasonable($12), the floors aren't hardwood but they're clean. There is a sizeable crowd and a good mix of dancers. There's limited street parking and a parking garage next to the place.
google avatar

Medyline B.

Yelp
Thank you for the great service, food was bursting with flavor and the band was awesome

Jarjar R.

Yelp
The Sunday buffet was a great deal! Good selection and tasted good. Service was also very good!

RJ E.

Yelp
Great buffet selections including lobster + mimosa, wonderful service, live music, and free 3 hour parking validation. Will come back for sure

Phillip H.

Yelp
We had a reservation and drove 2 hours only for them to tell us they had an event going on and we weren't allowed in, even though we had a reservation! Bad business practice! This pretty much guaranteed we will NEVER go here.
google avatar

Joyce A.

Yelp
Nice ambiance. Beautiful and great voices of singers. Entrees in big portions. Hospitable waitstaffs. Parking on the streets or next to it is a public parking for $20/day. I personally will park at the structure. Clean and cozy restaurant. It's a karaoke place at the same time. It's a nice place to go to for families, birthday gatherings, and simple dates. Overall, excellent service and experience. 3-10-2022
google avatar

Mags Y.

Yelp
They advertised a karaoke night with a Fil artist for May 30 '24 night but when we came, the door was closed! No announcement or whatsoever done! That's very unprofessional. A lot of cars were just coming in & out of the parking lot. The parking attendant just told us, Noypitz has been closed since Monday, lots of customers came & were misinformed. A simple recorded message will do on the phone so you won't mislead your customers, or post something on your website. Management training is extremely necessary!

Francisco D.

Yelp
Found this in the food when I ate breakfast. I spoke to the waiter and he just went to take but I still paid $36 for my food What do you say about that ?!

411 Y.

Yelp
Food - great Filipino dinner options Service - Abby and staff are very accommodating. I showed up late and kitchen was already had last call. I was able to order with no issue. Awesome service Ambiance - great ambiance. Certain nights they have karaoke or dancing

Yelp
Highly impressive. I've been living in DTLA for more than a year and this is my first time here. Filipino town is right around the corner and I am used to being disappointed with the choices i have for Filipino food. My parents were visiting and we are all surprised with how much we enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the service. I highly recommend the food. We ordered bangus sisig, tofu sisig, pinakbet and their fried chicken. We talked to the manager and we heard they have karaoke on Thursdays and have various events/bands on the weekends. I will definitely be checking it out!

Finiti M.

Yelp
They try and rip you off... don't go here. They charge extra on every drink... don't go here
google avatar

Rosanna W.

Yelp
Wow. So much fun. Live music. Professional voices. Live karaoke. Came here for my first time eating Philippino food! The fried pork leg is UH MAY ZINGGGG!!! (Amazing). I just want to go back and eat that crispy pork skin while work on finishing a beer tower while listening to talented strangers sing familiar love songs in the background. I'll be back!
google avatar

Robert J.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times, and the food is very good. The service was good also, but what I liked the most was the live music. I saw 2 different bands that sounded pretty good. This was on a weekend, and I will go back. Celebrating PJ birthday!
google avatar

Ariel W.

Yelp
This place is SO GOOD! We got Miki, fried rice, and a tofu dish that was delicious!! Abby served us at the bar, she was so awesome! Great service and food! Will definitely come back when in the area.
google avatar

Sam L.

Yelp
Stopped by to enjoy the excellent, live music performance. Ordered the Kare Kare, Pancit, and Halo Halo. All were pretty good and comes in the large portion. Service was a little shoddy despite the restaurant being fairly empty on a Sunday. Includes 3 hour validation if parking in the structure too. However, the waiter automatically applied a 20% gratuity for a party of 2. I noticed the large charge and had to request an itemized receipt to confirm that they already applied tip. It's pretty shameful trying to get double tip for those that don't notice, and other reviewer noted the same experience. Not coming back after that.
google avatar

Marc L.

Yelp
Gave them a second chance. They have a huge signage outside with sizzling plates. That's what got us in. Come time to order we are told that they don't serve those anymore except the sisig. Spoiler alert. Don't order it. Also ordered the dinakdakan. Again it's a miss. That's too bad. The venue is nice. That's as good as it gets. They should call this place Pasensya (Sorry in Pilipino) because you'll hear it a lot.
google avatar

Marjorie U.

Yelp
I don't know what happened, but this place used to be affordable. Now you have to pay for the cover, band, and other charges that I don't understand. The food is great, but it's unfair to charge you for the music in the background while you are eating.
google avatar

Ess J.

Yelp
Dropped in we were in the area for the first time. The Bartender was amazing, Expresso Martini Excellent not to sweet. The Lumpia and Calamari awesome. .
