"Located adjacent to the Capitol Grille inside The Hermitage Hotel, the Oak Bar has long been a go-to for locals and visitors looking for a whiskey fix. With its 130-bottle bourbon library, the Oak Bar’s collection is easily one of the the largest in town, guaranteeing that pretty much anyone can find something to please their palate." - Kristy Lucero, Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

Good service in traditional surroundings in the basement of the Hermitage Hotel. We had a nice cheese and meat board, very good. There is an extensive list of whiskey and good selection of wines and beers. Check out the art deco Gentlemen's bathroom, very cool.

Great bar in the basement of the hotel. Outstanding drinks and welcoming decor. Really feel like you could be hanging out in your classy friend's basement.

I've always enjoyed going to the Oak Bar before seeing the Predators play at Bridgestone Arena. Each time I've had really great service from the bar staff. Recently the service has been amazing and the drinks are top shelf and this is because of the bartender, Elizabeth. Even when the bar is packed with people, she manages to get your order and serve you within minutes of being there. And if it wasn't for her, I would of never ate any of the food or found these amazing Sliders that I can't believe I never tried before. I'll be moving my events from work to the Hermitage Hotel because of the service from Elizabeth and the bar staff.

The Oak Bar has excellent drinks, and a very cool vibe. Took the wife here and we had some great libations, her's made with absinthe, and the rest of the night was interesting! Very cool ambiance, and "prohibition" feel of the 20s-30s. Neat Men's restroom also. The service... could have been better. I felt like my wife and I were just in the way the whole time. We were definitely served, but I almost wondered if the bartender wasn't excited to have the bar space back after we left. Overall, decent experience. We would go back for the drinks/food/atmosphere.

Google
The drinks were pretty good. I tried to order one of their specialty cocktails off of the happy hour menu but was told they were missing an ingredient to make it. My second choice was decent. The happy hour food selections were slim pickings which was disappointing since my fiancé and I had come here specifically for an appetizer before dinner. The service was just OK and I kind of felt like the waiter viewed us as a bother. I didn't really feel very welcome.

Google
Nice bar on the lowest level of the Hermitage Hotel. The bathrooms are the coolest thing! Restored to period correct status, they're mint green and black. Worth coming here just to see them (yes, I know that's odd... But trust me)

Google
This place is amazing - located in the heart of a historical old building that is rich with stories and crafted like a palace - the Oak Bar serves delicious food and my friends really enjoyed the drinks they ordered. I had water but for food I had fried green tomatoes, a salad, and my favorite - sweet potato tots. Would recommend. The price point is a little high but their happy hour prices look quite agreeable.

Zekeyahi S.

Yelp
Classy location! I came here to catch-up with a few friends. There weren't many people here as we arrived between 12pm-3pm. We ordered a few appetizers. The fried green tomatoes were delicious! The drinks were really good as well.

Yelp
I have been here a handful of times and I am never disappointed with service or drinks. But, what you will find is that you're paying a hefty price for a single cocktail due to the environment and history that holds steadfast for this historic hotel bar. it is classic timely, beautiful, and historically rich as I previously mentioned. It is located downstairs in the Capitol Grille restaurant. It is unaffiliated with the chain restaurant of the same name. This is distinctive in its own right since it is located in the hotel that is next to the Tennessee State Capitol. Therefore, setting itself apart from the standard of the chain. It has a great reputation and has been a long serving staple in downtown Nashville. Drinks could stand to be $5 cheaper than what they run for on the $18/a drink price tag. I get that the location and what not is attributed to this and people are willing to pay it. I do not, however, have to agree that it makes sense. it doesn't make sense to me. Nevertheless, drinks are delicious and unrelenting when it comes to booze content within the drinks themselves. Oak Bar is somewhere you want to come to if you want to feel elegance and extravagant. Don't roll in here with a t-shirt and shorts. It might accept that attire, but do not be that person. Save this place for a special occasion and with the right company to go with you. It throws off the aesthetic if you do opt to be THAT PERSON. Don't cheapen it for everyone else. Look nice when you come in. Am I one who comes to this place often? No, but when the mood strikes me and I have the budget to do so, I will. As a local, I appreciate the place for what it is.

Brant B.

Yelp
Give this place a try. Impressive bartenders, impressive drinks and to scale everything. It's more of an older crowd.

Salvatore C.

Yelp
Love this place, great food, great drinks and fantastic people watching. Really enjoyed my experience with my friends. Great place for a group to get together and build some memories.

Yelp
A classic bar in a beautiful hotel! My husband and I and our good friend were having a night out in downtown Nashville and after the theater we went to the Oak Bar for a (couple of) nightcap(s). The Oak Bar is inside the Hermitage Hotel, so it has a lot of history. It's also beautiful - wood ceiling, wood paneling, leather chairs. They're definitely a whiskey bar (they have a long list of whiskeys available), but they offer everything. Their cocktail menu is varied and all the cocktails we tried were delicious. The cocktails were average priced for downtown Nashville (around $14 a piece), but they are above average quality! The bar is a classic, and it should be in your rotation of downtown cocktail bars! (If it's your visit, go in the main door, down the stairs toward the restaurant - Capitol Grille, and then turn right - the bar is just outside the famous bathroom.)

Caitlin D.

Yelp
If the staff wasn't so friendly the vibe would feel a bit stuffy but go for the hermitage mule- I'm not a bourbon girl but this was still delicious and refreshing. Also go for the sweet potato tater tots. Then visit the men's bathroom for a photo opp. Then leave because you will have experienced the peak of greatness by that point. Our bartender Marsha was lovely!

Melanie D.

Yelp
You come her for the historic atmosphere and the old world charm. They have a nice drink menu and the cocktails are well made. That said, service can be a little slow and not initially warm. We happened in here on a night where they were clearly too busy given the size of their staff so it was a challenge. The waitress was terribly apologetic and that was fine but it wasn't the best overall experience. The location is an A, service a C- and drinks a B so average that out and do what you will. It was worth it just to see the hotel interior in the lobby to me.

Becky Y.

Yelp
Great place to grab a bite before going to the theater or a concert. You can pay to valet park and pick up your car after the show as well. Cocktails are well-crafted and inventive. Food offerings are superior for a hotel bar. But then, again, it is the bar in the Hermitage Hotel so they should be. Fried green tomatoes, Hunter's Plate (charcuterie), and the deviled eggs are some of my favorites. Usually crowded but folks are not territorial here. Beautiful, classic, elegant bar.

Yelp
The Oak Bar is an upscale bar/gastropub located inside of the swanky Hermitage Hotel in downtown Nashville. As I came here on a week night with a friend there was only one other couple in the whole place. The bar has a very timeless feel that transports you back in time. The paneling on the ceiling and the wood paneling on the walls is very historic and elegant. If you are a bourbon lover then this is your spot. They have the largest collection of bourbon bottles in Nashville so you will likely find what you are looking for. Otherwise, I found the wine and cocktails all to be overpriced. The cheapest wine is the Hermitage's own wine label at $10/glass. The beer is mostly $6 which isn't too bad but if you pay that amount for a Bud Light you might as well be going to any of the honky tonks on Broadway. Although the Capitol Grille inside of the Hermitage is where people most likely will go to have a bite, the Oak Bar has a menu consisting of small plates, salads and a couple of entrees. Although I did not try the food, it looked like a good assortment of offerings from a small menu. The Oak Bar a cool place to drop in and see for a pre-dinner cocktail or if you have plans elsewhere in the area. I enjoy the ambiance and getting to be inside the Hermitage is special as well.

Yelp
I'm not sure about the hype of the happy hour, but they get so busy during TPAC shows that Happy Hour turns into Grumpy HourS. If they know that it is extremely busy before big TPAC shows you think they would have more than 1 bartender. This seems like a n-brainer to me. We waited almost an hour for French fries. An hour! Don't get me wrong.....they might be the best darn fries I've ever had, but not that good. We also had the Caprese (not happy hour) and I was disappointed. I have never been anywhere that touts burrata but then only serves a tablespoon on each out of season tomato with 2 pieces of basil. Definitely not worth the $12-14 we paid. We also got the fried green tomatoes which were incredible! I couldn't have wanted for anything with those! I doubt we will ever go back because there are so many other options and with service that slow I was miserable.

Yelp
Nashville has so many great bars and lounges that it's a bit surprising to stumble upon a disappointing one. In a city with many options, the Oak Bar is one you'll want to avoid. We stopped in on a weekend evening to get cocktails before dining at the Capitol Grille (also an experience to avoid, but that's a whole different story). At $14-18, the drinks here are no joke. And while those are acceptable for a cocktail bar that really delivers on quality, the Oak Bar doesn't even come close. My drink was watered down with lots of crushed ice (ugh) and tasted little better than the run-of-the-mill spirit+soda mixed drink you might expect on Lower Broadway. If it was from a college frat party, I'd be pretty impressed, but for an upscale bar charging these prices I expect much better. Save yourself the disappointment; if you search for a list of Nashville's best cocktail bars on Eater or Thrillist, you'll find many options that are both cheaper and worlds better than the Oak Bar.

Yelp
What do you do when you your car is valeted for the evening and you just want to relax? Go to the bar in the basement, and drink! The gentleman who checked me in told me about the bar in the basement, and I told him after I got situated in the behemoth of a suite I was in, it was time to go exploring around. After going to the basement and realized THAT was the wrong floor (sorry room service!), I pushed the next button, and it looked like I had arrived. Now, I had kept hearing about the famous men's restroom (http://www.nbcnews.com/id/30476750/ns/travel-destination_travel/t/americas-best-bathroom-found-tennessee/), and I think I had finally found them. So before I even sat in the bar, I went creeping around. I wonder if the women's is just as cool? I didn't check out, so I guess I will never know... After play time in the bathroom (more like picture taking and shoe polishing), it was time to check out the bar. There was a restaurant right next door, but I wanted simple eats and drinks. I walked right in, and looked for a seat facing the TV. The décor was dimly lit, with candles on each table- and a room/cave covered in oak. The seats were all dark leather, including a few love seats as well. Very intimate- and great for a 1man drinking/eating excursion. When one of the servers came up to me (who was dressed in a plaid shirt and colored jeans), I told her I was ready to eat and drink. So I browsed through the menu. While I was looking, I noticed two things- they had 4 house made sodas (why cannot I NOT remember what they were? ugggh), and a happy hour every day. Also, they had a decent bourbon selection. Another special note is that they have their own barrel(s) of Jack Single- the cream of the crop in the JD family. I thought that was cool! I started off with Makers/coke, then worked my way down the list. I also got a pimento cheese and fried green tomato sandwich, with fries. When that came out, my mouth was watering. The bread was thick, the tomato fried perfectly, and the cheese gooey. Even the skinny fries were good. I kept throwing back the most random drinks possible, and then it was last call. I got some kind of drink with blood orange syrup and vodka- it was a great way to end the night. Thankfully all I had to do was take an elevator up to the 8th floor because I was almost stumbling! I thoroughly enjoyed this place, from the relaxed atmosphere, to the old guy with the escort in the corner, I had a wonderful time and will surely check out this place again when I am in town! Cheers!

Yelp
The Oak Bar is a great, old-fashioned bar in the basement of The Hermitage Hotel. If you want a classic and classy bar experience, The Oak Bar is the place to try. Their old fashioned was perfect, and I loved that they serve pork rinds as on of the bar snacks that come with your drinks--so southern.

Sheena T.

Yelp
The Oak Bar is a fantastic experience! It's tucked away beside the Capitol Grille within the Hermitage Hotel, and has an old school vibe where I feel like I've been transported back to a different era. I love the decor and the staff is extremely friendly. This is a staple spot pre and post any TPAC performance, and is often crowded with ballet or opera goers. I really like the unique cocktails, and they are very stiff as well! They have a menu with small bites that you can order at the bar, and they smell fantastic though I can't speak from experience. Next time I'll have to give them a whirl! I'll be back here for a night out but wouldn't be a regular since it's somewhat touristy and a bit expensive on the cocktail price. Plus its a place where you would feel more comfortable dressed up. But I'll be back when I'm gussied up for a night on the town or after a visit to the Nashville Ballet!

Kaela A.

Yelp
We stumbled across the Oak Bar while looking for a quiet place to have a drink on a Saturday afternoon. We were in town for a wedding, and did not want to take advantage of the more typical Nashville scene, but rather a quiet place to enjoy the afternoon. The Oak Bar has a great atmosphere. It's upscale but with a casual atmosphere. The service was excellent, our server was very knowledgeable and made several recommendations - all of which were a hit with our party. The menu also had a great assortment of pub-fare, but well presented and excellent flavors.

Yelp
When you travel solo as a woman in a new city, you want someplace safe, calm and welcoming. The Oak Bar at the beautiful and historic Hermitage Hotel fit the need. Great selection of bourbon and whiskey, with bartender Deb who explained some of the differences. Tried the Johnny Walker single barrel reserve, and it was smooth with a hint of vanilla. Dinner was a delicious shrimp & grits with a slightly Cajun gravy. Delicious! And don't miss going up into the hotel lobby; stunning from another

Erik A.

Yelp
Bartender: What kind of bourbon would you like? Me: Do you have... Bartender: Yes. A welcome refuge from Broadway.

Mitch E.

Yelp
Not many places are mostly hyped because of their bathroom. However most places are Oak Bar. Located in the nicest hotel in Nashville, Oak Bar is much more than just a fancy bathroom. Their staff is very warm and accommodating. The bartender was super knowledgable and made a great Manhattan. My friend and I discussed their selection or whiskey, we were quite impressed. The bathroom is just a novelty. People come by to check it out, including women. It's a Art Deco bathroom, and is the nicest bathroom I've been in. However it's like saying the nicest sewer, it's still a bathroom. I'm the end it's a nice place to grab a cocktail or two.

C. S.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this bar; as a visitor to Nashville, I'd heard this spot was worth a visit. Yes, the wood is lovely. But the service was completely atrocious. I had to ask the server multiple times about my food order, even though I was sitting at the bar. And when it finally arrived, I stepped outside to take a call and they cleared away my brand new cocktail, the food, and gave my seat to someone else. And then still had the gall to charge me. I should have protested, but honestly, I was too shocked. I basically had to walk out of there with my tail between my legs because they didn't do their jobs. Mortifying. Terrible service, terrible manners. Will never return.

Yelp
We stayed at Hermitage Hotel 2/12-14 and both evenings went to The Oak Bar. While it's on the small size, even at capacity, it wasn't too noisy and no one was overlooked. The bar is quaint and cool and the drinks (with 2 oz pours) are moderately priced ($12, $10 3-5pm). If you get the bat snacks early in the evening (bbq pork rinds, pecans and the best sweet potato chips I've ever had!), they're delish! My boyfriend and I split the oysters Rockefeller (they were okay), the hot chicken (tasty!) and the bourbon salmon (delightful!). The portions were just enough that you didn't feel too full. I saw someone with the beet salad, and it looked great. As an afternoon snack when we checked in, we ordered the shrimp cocktail and truffle fries. OMG! The fries were amazing and well worth the calories! If Michaels working, you're in good hands. He's very attentive and remembered our preferences.

Yelp
The Oak Bar is amazing. It's a tiny restaurant at the end of the hallway of the Hermitage Hotel. I scoured the city looking for a place open for lunch during the snowstorm and Oak Bar was one of the only places open. I literally took a Lyft to three different restaurants before finding Oak Bar. Everything after that was just gravy. The doorman opened my car door for me, and walked me to the door under an umbrella. The doors to Oak Bar were wide open like you were walking into a movie. I took a seat at the bar and was immediately impressed by all of their whiskey. They had a few Japanese whiskeys on their menu but they weren't in stock. The bartender did his damndest to find them for me, which I greatly appreciated. He also let me charge my phone behind the bar, which was nice. Instead, I went with the Jack Daniels Single Barrel (which is exclusive to Oak Bar). It was a fine choice. Very smooth and wonderful over ice. For my meal, I had the Wedge Oak Farm pork loin with blood orange, hedgehog mushroom and watercress. I love blood orange and I love cooking, but I've never considered cooking with it. Let me just say that blood orange and pork is an amazing combination. That alone was worth the price of admission. The pork was tender and flavored just right (though I added a shot of black pepper). Probably one of the best meals I had in Nashville. Also, as other people have mentioned, the bathroom is a surreal experience. There's a plaque on the wall that says that they restored the bathroom due to popular demand. There are green and black striped walls, a shoe shine station, a rotary telephone, cloth hand towels, and gigantic old fashioned urinals. It's just... wonderful. By far the classiest bathroom I ever did do my business in.

Terry F.

Yelp
Highly recommended--especially if you can get there before 7pm when the happy hour dining specials end. The deviled eggs and bologna sandwich were excellent. Just sit at the bar, that's what I did. Very friendly and knowledgable staff. They have an incredible Jefferson Reserve bourbon there that is fantastic.

Frank H.

Yelp
Excellent cocktails in a paneled, dark and intimate setting adjacent to the Capitol Grille.

David F.

Yelp
Well. That was disappointing. After seeing photos and reading some great reviews, we decided to pop in mid afternoon for a drink and a snack. We sat down at the bar and it took Peri the bartender 10 minutes to acknowledge us, much less hand a us a menu. We ordered two waters and an old fashioned. It took 15 minutes to get waters. He made an old fashioned, set it down in front of us on the rail, and left it there for 15 minutes. Eventually I assumed it was mine and reached for it and he snapped at me. He finally made my drink after 20+ minutes and it was bad. The bar smelled, the staff was rude, our waters were almost never refilled, the food was overpriced and mediocre at best. There is no shortage of great food and drinks in the city. Skip this spot.

Marcia M.

Yelp
What. A . Great. Lowkey. Spot. I have really enjoyed myself each time I have had libations and snacks at this little treasure nestled in The Hermitage Hotel. From the proper libations to the tasty appetizers, this is a great place to pre-game or conclude your evening. The staff is always efficient and friendly while the dark and moody space is perfect for many occasion. Need to host a business meeting that will impress or perhaps courting a potential mate? You'd close both deals here. Yea, I said it.

Jeff O.

Yelp
Great Sazerac at the Oak Bar. Deb, my bartender says she learned how to make it the right way from a nice little couple from N'awlins. Headed for the Capitol Grill next door for dinner. Both are in the historic Hermitage Hotel. Service can be slow, but my drink was worth the wait.

Ming L.

Yelp
Fancy atmosphere, completely average or below average food. And the kicker is that while they have a phenomenal whiskey list, they know it and the prices are utterly ridiculous for their pours. If I'm not mistaken, a pour of the Thomas Handy is $100, which is actually more than the retail price of the bottle itself. Plenty of places to get the Handy at prices like $30/pour, so why subject yourself to ridiculous prices with old-fashioned and often poor food? Deviled eggs are fine. But the menu was right, these are the deviled eggs my grandmother made. Nothing interesting about them at all. And the random soup that I had? Jeez, I've had better out of a supermarket jar.

Carol K.

Yelp
Lovely. Old School. A perfect way to start or end your evening on the town. We stopped into the Oak Bar the The Hermitage Hotel and I never wanted to leave. Dark, intimate, just the way a bar should be. I loved that we were able to grab a small table with leather chairs along the wall. Our server was there in a second, took our drink order and was back just as quickly with our drinks. My favorite parts? The cloth drink napkins. And the fact that the mixers come in separate mini carafes for you to customize your cocktail just the way you like them. And you must check out the men's room. Yes, ladies. They will let you in for a look for this was a part of the hotel from the art deco period that was never re done in the remodel. Since the bar used to be a men's club- the men's bathroom has many of the original fixtures including a shoe shine stand. It is also purported that there is a secret tunnel that goes from there to the Capital building used during Prohibition. Rumor? Maybe, as I saw no sign of it when I was surreptitiously checking out the digs . . .but maybe it's there .. . .maybe. Our server, Zach, was great. This guy knows his bourbon and his whiskey. He even was able to steer us toward some local distilleries if we were so inclined to pursue it even further. Of the same genre as the Drake Hotel bar in Chicago, this intimate bar is at the top of my list of must see's while in the Music City!

Yelp
Lovely bar with an old-school Manhattan feel. You'll find this spot tucked down a wide oak staircase in the basement of the luxurious Hermitage Hotel. It's all wood paneling and cozy details and old-school service. Our waitress was first-class and clearly a pro even with a slammed room. They have a huge liquor selection, but definitely at a premium price. Lucky for us, we arrived during happy hour (4-6 on Sunday, I think likely Sunday - Thursday) and took advantage of their specials - $7 deviled eggs, Buffalo Trace, and house cab. We added on the $8 sliders and made a delicious snack for a reasonable price (Layla's charged us $10 for a pretty gross, small fried app platter for context). 100% recommend for a departure from/alternative to Broadway's honky tonks.

Thomas B.

Yelp
Not really sure about the hype here. I went for my birthday so I was in good spirits but a wooden bar and being surrounded by politicians didn't ease the pain of paying $9 for Jack. My wife and I had a cocktail that was mediocre and the app was just okay. I try not to dog a place on prices but I expected something that looked this swank to deliver a little more on the food and drink front.

Liz G.

Yelp
We were visiting Nashville for the first time and looking for a place for lunch before hitting the road. Stopped at the Oak Bar thanks to yelp recommendations. The sweet onion bisque and the Brunswick stew were phenomenal!! The deliver eggs were good, and the burger was great. The Tennessee egg sandwich was really good but a bit salty for my taste. The waitstaff was very attentive and the French press coffee was a nice touch. Overall, highly recommend!

Kristin Marie S.

Yelp
We stopped in the Oak Bar before the Opera on Sunday. We were dressed to the nines and the Oak Room seemed fitting. So the decor isn't much to offer, tapestry explosion BUT the bartender, Zach and the Men's bathroom is where it's at. Women are allowed in the Men's room to check it out, how cool is that? It's art deco inspired and has not been renovated. It was the only thing that wasn't touched when the hotel was redone. The bar used to be a Men's lounge. The bathroom has a shoe shine stand and a telephone. It also has a secret tunnel to the capital building. According to legend, or truth, depending on who you ask, it was used during Prohibition. I believe it because two people who worked in the capital said it was true. Zach was a great addition, he had out the Hermitage Hotel history book and was giving us all the details. Apparently quite a few music videos were filmed in the bathroom. In addition to the cool bathroom they have a decent happy hour 4:30-6:30pm Monday-Friday. We'll be back to check it out!

Yelp
Found the Oak Bar here on Yelp, despite having stayed in Nashville nearby a number of times and not finding it previously - thank Yelpers!! First, it's a beautiful room, although a touch hidden (turn right in entrance, then left down the stairs, and right at reception for restaurant), the wood is gorgeous. Secondly, DO make sure you get there for happy hour, prices are much more affordable, but it ends at 6:30 p.m. Service? GREAT - and I hope Deb is on duty when you go, warm, friendly and a really, really good example of what makes a server great. She introduced herself, asked my name, remembered it and addressed me by it. Attentive without being overbearing, and right there when you wanted her. So good I tipped her near 30%. Food - although I missed happy hour (but Deb did say she'd ask the manager if she could "bend" the time rule!), the food was as other Yelpers said - just scrumptious. I had the "Granny's" deviled eggs (and ate all five...omg..) and the Roast Beef sandwich. The horseradish sauce on it was a bit heavy for my taste, but it was quite nice. Drinks - I tried the proprietary house Jack Daniels - made specifically for the Oak Bar. Normally I drink a bit more high end bourbon, but had to try it. If you like Jack, you'd love this. The house cabernet was also quite tasty, and their drink/wine menu very extensive. Do go, well worth it

Yelp
This Is a stodgy yet, welcoming atmosphere that embodies the concept of the Southern hospitality, and sets the stage for a delicious get very filling evening. Our server basically pushed me into ordering their prized onion soup that was creamy and so filling that it ruined the rest of the meal. I had the simply prepared scallops that were delicious but, so rich after the soup. The sides were not memorable just the regular above average steakhouse side. I think next time I'm going to order the burger. I saw it passed me by and it looked amazing. (It is advertised as grass fed beef with grass from their farm, apparently super special )

Sheila B.

Yelp
Awesome- So glad I yelped and found this place for happy hour. Classy, clubby, excellent drinks and service- shout out to Deb at the bar!

Bebo B.

Yelp
Great spot. A friend and I went down there to grab a bite to eat around 7:30 and we walked right in and found a place to sit. There was a nice crowd there though. The atmosphere is very inviting and the service was top notch. It's in an older hotel so browse around a bit of you can; very cool. CHECK OUT THE MENS BATHROOM. The food was awesome. I would recommend the club sandwich, as well as the deviled eggs. They were the best deviled eggs I've ever had. Cocktails and Bourbon are their key menu items but you can get a good meal here no doubt. Do venture to this spot if you are in the area. It'll take you back to early 1900's speakeasy!

Adrian C.

Yelp
It's a nice quiet & classic bar. It was only for gentlemen. Love the Jack Daniel single barrel Wisley. And they service very nice bar snacks with drinks. By the way there are happy hour, too.

Yelp
With a friend visiting from out of town, I suggested we stop by the Hermitage to see the bathrooms (I'm not ashamed to admit it!) and have a drink. I don't think Miles typically works in the bar, but we sure are glad he was working when we came in. As any good bartender should, he regaled us with stories and local history while crafting up mean old fashioneds. It was early afternoon, so we pretty much had the bar to ourselves, but the ambiance is still the type I enjoy: dimly lit, comfortable, elegant. I've been once before, but will definitely return. Thank you, Miles!

Yelp
Lunch. Ordered the sandwich and salad for $21. The farm salad was fresh and great. But the grilled pominto cheese with fried green tomatoes was a fail. They need to slow down and melt the cheese but instead the bread was burned, the cheese was cold, and the green tomato was too breaded. Not a good value or flavor.

Yelp
How have I not rated this place. It is my favorite place to grab a drink for the past couple of years and excels in every category. The atmosphere is perfect for a nice relaxing drink and you never have to worry about the likes of "vandy kids", "hipsters" and "try to hards" that burden the majority of other nice places in Nashville. The food and drinks are amazing! I have had every craft drink on their menu over the years and their food as well (note this is for the oak bar menu, not the capitol grille menu) and it is always unique and perfect. The staff truly are top notch both in their service, personality, and overall quality. Very few places give the vibe of the entire staff actually caring about you and enjoying their work, everyone here does. I can't say enough good things about it and recommend it to everyone. My only complaint is that there isn't very accessible parking and trying to get to it between 3:30pm-6:30pm is very difficult with all of the traffic if your office isn't downtown/in walking distance; and unfortunately, they only offer Valet if you are staying at the hotel.

Yelp
I had heard many great things about both The Oak Bar and The Hermitage Hotel, but had never made it down to either establishment, until New Year Eve. The first NYE in a new city, can always be challenging. Where to go? Do we eat before hand? Do we go out after? Do we try and meet up with friends? The list is never ending. Well, this year my girlfriend and I made no plans. Zip. Zero. Zilch. We just played it by ear. We ended up at Tin Angel for dinner, and decided to welcome in 2012 at The Oak Bar. What a great choice that turned out to be. I love hotel bars, especially old hotel bars, with a rich history. My favorite hotel bar of all time is the Sazerac Bar in the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans. The Oak Bar is now second on that list Windowless, dimly lit, intimate, impecable service, what else would you want in a hotel bar? Our impromptu New Years Even, ended up being exactly what we were looking for.

Yelp
Well... I don't have the fondest memories of this place, because once I had too much to drink, made a complete ass of myself and ruined what should have been an amazing, wonderful romantic night with my wife... However, that being said, it is a beautiful bar, and the people behind it really know what they are doing. Stick to the basics, like Old Fashioneds, Manhattans, Martinis, and the like. It is a cramped space; I don't think I've ever been in here when it has open seats so if you can't get a table, you'll be bellying up to the bar or standing in the middle of the room. But it is a splendid room and has the classiest men's room in the entire history of human civilization.

Yelp
I had heard such good things about the Oak Bar, but I am sad to report that it's not worth your time, and at their prices, certainly not worth your money. So many other restaurants in Nashville offer what they're doing here (and more) at a much better quality and lower price. The highly touted double patty burger was confusingly disappointing. How is it possible to make two local beef patties, Benton's bacon, white cheddar, and mustard so flavorless? Hello, salt and pepper. The worst part of it was the soggy melt away bun. After about a minute, I was basically holding two beef patties between my fingers. You need a more substantial foundation to handle a burger of that size. The service also was pathetic. Our server demonstrated a lack of basic attention to detail (e.g. pre-bussing, refills) and limited knowledge of the limited menu, confidently making things up when she didn't know the answer. For example, we asked what the sweet sauce was on the plate of fried green tomatoes. She said it was grease that ran off of the tomatoes, and that sometimes they don't drain them out of the fryer well enough. After another look at the menu, we realized it was pepper jelly, not a sloppily executed oil slick. But thanks for throwing your chef under the bus. If you're staying at the Hermitage Hotel and it's raining outside, I'd recommend grabbing a cab and going somewhere else.

Yelp
Ahhh.... Champagne! Boyfriend and I ended up here for NYE after devouring Tin Angel's delicious fare. We were looking for something to fill the empty hole that opened up when we left New Orleans and had to say goodbye to the Sazerac in the Roosevelt. Luckily, we made our way to the Hermitage with an hour and a half to spare until 2012! We sat down and enjoyed a couple of perfect beverages. We each had an Irish coffee and a glass of champagne. I'm no champagne connoisseur, but that was one impressive Irish coffee! It was strong and eye opening, and absolutely one of the best I've had. The service was also impeccable. The waitress was not on our heels every five seconds, but she certainly was attentive and friendly. I also enjoyed that it was a classier establishment, since we were pretty dressed up and looking for a low-key evening with a fancy cocktail. The Oak Bar was the perfect place to ring in the new year, and I look forward to many more drinks here in 2012!

Yelp
Came here for a quick drink while waiting for our room to be ready. It was midday during the week, slightly before happy hour. It was not crowded at all and we immediately found a seat. Waitress was prompt and we ordered our drinks. Nothing crazy, I was feeling fancy and ordered a glass on champagne and my husband got bourbon the rocks. Little pricey, but its too be expected. We did not eat any snacks as we had just eaten. Obviously you have to check out the men's restroom. Men and women are allowed inside.

Yelp
I'm in Nashville for the first time and I ask for recommendations. A few people mentioned The Oak Room. So I go, because I'm a good listener. I ordered the deviled eggs...soooo tasty. I also ordered the Brunswick Stew. I was really impressed. I washed that down with a couple glasses of the local IPA, which was just the right compliment to my meal. And of course, if you haven't picked up in the other reviews, check out the Art Deco bathroom. It was pretty cool :)

Yelp
We came for happy hour which has fabulous prices, by the way, but it made our finding a seat a little difficult. We persisted and after a few moments, something opened up at the bar. We were greeted warmly and promptly after sitting down. We had never been to the fine state of Tennessee and were close to virgins in the ways of Bourbon and Whiskey. The exceptionally knowledgeable bartender helped my husband find a few to try based on his likes of other drinks and explained to us the difference in how they are made, vary from state to state and why the ones we were trying were so unique. It was a fun experience and we got to try some great drinks too. I tried the house sodas, both the cucumber/ginger/mint and the blood orange soda were amazing and sans alcohol. Loved them! Happy hour food also spectacular- we suggest the deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes and the brisket on a biscuit was also good- but a bit too fatty and grisly for my taste, even though it is brisket. The ambience is relaxed, nice mix of uppity hotel patrons as well as some younger Nashville natives. It's wooden charm and warmth make it an excellent place to have a drink and bite to eat.

Yelp
Great whisky selection! The burger, fried green tomatoes and caprese salad are winners. Cool little spot - gotta check out the men's bathroom.

Yelp
Last night's trip to the Tennessee Performing Arts Center was accompanied by a new tradition for me which involves a pre-(or post.. or both) show cocktail at one of my absolute favorite bars in town, The Oak Bar. If you are looking for a swankier place to unwind, where one can actually hear a conversation, while kicking back and relaxing with a wonderful cocktail or glass of wine- a stop into the Oak Bar is a must! Inside of the most beautiful building in town (seriously ya'll.. The lobby of the Hermitage Hotel is a site that cannot be missed), and not to mention Nashville's only 5 star hotel, is one of my favorite places to do just that. Great food, wonderful drink and wine list, a comfortable yet gorgeous atmosphere, and fabulous service are just the icing on the cake. Here are a couple of items that you cannot miss: The Tennessee Stack. The Oak Bar and Capitol Grill use vegetables they harvest and beef raised on a farm near the hotel itself. Not only is this one of the freshest, most delicious burgers in town, it is made with ingredients from just down the street. I LOVE supporting businesses that support local businesses. Fried Pickles. Not exactly the healthiest option.. But, I feel this tasty snack is one that especially visitors to Nashville HAVE to indulge in. Fried Green Tomatoes. See: Description for Fried Pickles. Jack's Mule. I can't express to you how much I love this drink. Served in an ice cold copper mug with Jack, Spicy Ginger Beer, and Lime. Simple, refreshing, and delicious! The Men's Restroom. Voted "Best Restroom" in the US in 2008- This beautiful art-deco style room is definitely the prettiest bathroom I've set foot in. Ladies, if you ask, you are allowed to peek in too. Happy Hour from 4:30-6:30. Drink specials and select apps 1/2 off. So, if you're heading to a show at TPAC, War Memorial, or just looking for an excuse to have a drink at a nice place in Nashville, the Oak Bar is a stop that you must make!
