The menu is lacking in options and is absurdly overpriced. I opted for the breakfast table buffet which was $40/person. The food was absolutely horrible. The eggs are not fresh- they are made from a carton and taste like cardboard. The breakfast potatoes are undercooked and lack any flavour. The chicken sausages have an unsettling aftertaste and the coffee tastes like dog water. The “fresh baked croissants” are stale and clearly days old. Honestly food this bad at a hotel of this standing is outrageous. 0/10 would not recommend. P.S. they have flies buzzing around all over.

The fresh bakeries compel me to visit here every morning. The rest of the buffet is great too. But the crunchy pastries and coffee are beyond this world – absolutely amazing!

Everything was great server was nice enjoyed our breakfast

Currently going through renovations (I assume) so the actual oak room is closed & the restaurant is inside of a large conference room.. definitely not the same feel. Hopefully reopens soon! The servers are wonderful!

$33 breakfast buffet; if you come very hungry it will probably be a better calorie/dollar proposition than Denny's, and better food. Standard country club/hotel breakfast buffet selection, healthy. Excellent service.

Great breakfast buffet. Omelette chef and a stacked buffet bar.

Excellent breakfast buffet at the hotel. Fresh cooked eggs made to order in any style.

Went to this buffet while staying at the hotel with my family. The server brought a receipt that counted my kid as an adult. I was waiting to receive a new one for 15 minutes until Jacqueline Zaragoza, the supervisor, came to our table. But she rudely started asking our kids how old they are as if interrogating and even though she knew the server had made a mistake, she never apologized. I told her, "I thought you would at least say sorry", but she didn't. I asked her to bring her boss, Mariko Yao. She kindly offered me a free meal the next morning during the stay, but I politely declined her offer and paid for everything. I truly hope that they will care about customer satisfaction in a more professional manner.

Yelp
We booked the Thanksgiving dinner at $120 each, expecting an elegant dining experience. What we were not told was that the Oak Room is closed for renovations and the dining experience has been moved to a conference room with moldy carpeting, bright lighting, and average tables that apparently also houses the hotel breakfast buffet. The Thanksgiving buffet was out with breakfast stuff... Wow what a terrible decision. It was a simple buffet with turkey etc and a few dim sum pieces. No wine service unless we asked. So for two people, $240, with wine it was $300! Absolutely outrageous rip off. My partner was so angry he complained to the manager who gave us 20% off, making it $280. I feel that we were badly taken advantage of. We were expecting a lovely Thanksgiving for two out on the town and got something like an airport hotel buffet. So disappointed. We will never go back. I still cannot believe it. Ruined our special Thanksgiving together.

Yelp
We had complimentary breakfast for every day of our stay at the Westin St. Francis. It was a mini hot bar buffet, which had scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, and then the cold bar had fruits, cereal, muffins, and sweet treats. Food was okay, nothing fantastic but service was on point and the ambiance is very classic and old school with no windows but has high ceilings with chandeliers.

Yelp
A month ago, we booked a Thanksgiving lunch in the iconic OAK ROOM. We were very much looking forward to a 'posh' Thanksgiving meal. When we arrived, The Oak Room was closed. We weren't the only people with a reservation who were confused by this. There was no sign to indicate what was going on. We went to the lobby and enquired at checkin, where there was some confusion as to where we should go. Eventually we were sent to what was merely a meeting room, with a temporary sign designating it as "The Oak Room". This was definitely not the elegant wood panelled room with red leather upholstery that we'd looked forward to. This is the point when we should have left (I believe the other couple wisely did just that) but instead we actually wanted a Thanksgiving meal and plunged ahead. Unfortunately, the longer we stayed the angrier we got. The food was OK, but the pricing was utterly outrageous for eating in a bland meeting room. At no point in the reservation process was it explained that the room we'd booked wouldn't be available. Part of the reason for paying the inflated costs of eating in The Oak Room (or any of the other iconic dining establishments in San Francisco) is the ambience. If you remove the atmosphere then the price should drop. I'm amazed at the bait & switch here, to still charge inflated luxury prices to eat in what is essentially a meeting room with scuffed & tatty carpets. The manager reduced the bill by 20% but that was not enough. Truthfully, even if we'd gotten to eat in the swanky REAL Oak Room the $120 price per head would have been outrageous.

Yelp
Right now the Oak Room has been moved to a small conference room at the Westin St. Francis and is only serving breakfast. If you plan to go there make sure to call and see if its in the conference room or back in the hotel. The hotel is not making it obvious that it's been relocated and that its a completely different set of offerings. The new breakfast buffet is beyond disappointing. No omelettes made to order and what was already not a great buffet has been diminished further by a very limited set of offerings. It's functional at best with bacon, scrambled eggs, a few pastries and a bit of fruit. But if you're looking for a nice or decent breakfast look elsewhere.

Yelp
We have breakfast almost everyday here in the Westin St Francis hotel, since our package includes breakfast. The food is good and there are variety of things to choose from. Service is excellent.

Yelp
We stayed at the Westin St Francis when we attended the Nutcracker ballet for Christmas. As part of the room we were given two buffet breakfasts in the Oak room the following morning. That was nice because most of the time the Marriott gives us only a continental breakfast with no hot items and if you want the full buffet they charge extra. The restaurant was decorated very nicely for Christmas and the space has an intimate feel. They had a fruit station, breads and pastry station, omelette and egg bar and assorted hot items like bacon and sausage, scrambled eggs, pancakes and potatoes. The quality of the food was OK just typical breakfast buffet fare. One thing to note is that they don't serve any alcoholic beverages just orange juice and coffee. I noticed one person brought a split of sparkling wine and made his own mimosas. The staff was very friendly however it seemed that they were very under staffed as they did not have time to clear our plates. I just had to put my used dishes on an empty table that had dirty dishes already. It is a nice place to enjoy a leisurely breakfast especially during the holiday season.

Yelp
My family has been here so many times, but I've never bother to write. It's a classic spot. The room reminded you for 40 years ago, the rundown table/chair, the old carpet printed, lighting fixtures, as off nothing hard changed forever! $39 breakfast buffet is too pricy in my book. But because we stayed here 6 days for our StayCation, we got credit for $20 breakfast as SPG Platinum members. It's still expensive for what they served. Starbucks coffee $7, OJ $6.50 and it's not fresh! The best thing about the breakfast buffet was the "Char Siu Bao Bun and Mushroom Potstickers." Get this money and go to the Garden Court at the Palace Hotel, you got twice the option and quality. I'm just saying! 1 extra star for the Asian hostess, she was very nice, super helpful, gracious, and care for our ADA person in our group.

Yelp
The Oak Room is greatly underappreciated. We went the other day for lunch. It was quiet, dignified, and comfortable. The service was impeccable. We asked for specific wine glasses for a fine wine we ordered... they didn't have them handy, but they made a special trip somewhere in the hotel, found the exactly right glasses, and that made the wine service spot-on! We love the atmosphere, plush leather chairs, cloth napkins, wine decanter. It's not easy to find dinner quality service and atmosphere for lunch. The Oak Room is off the street, on the Lobby Level of the St. Francis Hotel. Easy to find, yet out of the way. The food was delicious and visually enticing. The Dungeness Crab Chowder, their signature soup, is worth the trip! The salads are large enough as a meal; bright and crisp Romaine Salad, with Chicken. The entres we ordered, fish, and their wonderful Kobe Burger. We sampled three of the desserts, all worth of great praise, especially the Trio of Creme Brûlée, and the Chocolate Tart with Sechuan Sauce(!). We lingered a little past the 2pm lunch hours, but the staff was still very pleasant and patient, another sign of great service. Parking Tip: Union Square Garage is right across the street.

Yelp
3.5 stars This review is for their Holiday Tea. Prices start at $55 and include the usual: sandwiches, scones, dessert, and tea. Reservations and a credit card to hold the reservation are required. (See website for days and times.) The Oak Room is located down the first hallway to your right if you enter the hotel through Powell Street. The Oak Room really is an oak room btw :p Brown with no views since there aren't any windows. There was a piano player near the host stand playing some holiday tunes and even some Stevie Wonder "Overjoyed" (thumbs up!), and next to him in the corner was a modestly-sized Christmas tree. For the grand trees and decorations, head out to the lobby for some good photo opps. As for the food, portions are very tiny! One look at the food and I knew I'd be done in lickety split! You get three sandwiches: chicken salad, egg salad, and salmon. They all tasted fine to me - they were just so small! Same with the scone, which I thought was really good. And yes, same with the desserts! The desserts though were pretty yummy - I usually find desserts at afternoon tea to be underwhelming but theirs I actually enjoyed. We got cream puffs, fruit tarts, and tiramisu - all good but in miniature sizes. We also got some strawberries which were great dipped in cream. As for their tea, for $2 extra I got their Red Blossom Tea. I chose the Rising Jasmine which I liked, and it was fun to see the flower bloom right before me! Service was welcoming and appreciation was shown to us for choosing their Holiday Tea over the others in town. Also, we never had to ask for our pots to be refilled with hot water which was nice. One thing I wasn't crazy about other than the tiny portions was how close the tables for two were to each other. I'd rather not hear others' conversations and I'd rather not have others hear mine. If prices were lower for the portions I could see myself giving 4 stars for their Holiday Tea, or if there were some wow factor (decor or more outstanding service perhaps). 3.5 stars it is as everything was else was just fine.

Yelp
This restaurant has buffet options and nice lunch menu. When I went it wasn't so busy so our food came out first and the customer service was excellent. They also give bread and butter which is always a plus for me. Ordered: grilled fish tacos, wild mushroom ravioli (not pictured)

Yelp
On travel in San Francisco I dined here for lunch, led here by fellow yelpers. It is in a Hotel and thus has tourist prices. But this is down town SF, so yea-everything is expensive right. The food is great! well presented and very tasty. Service, too, is what you would express at that price point and in a lux hotel. If you are hungry, want a quiet meal and be spoiled a bit, this is a good spot to consider. I will repeat next time I am in town.

Yelp
Came here for dinner for SF Restaurant Week. We had a group of 5 and everyone ordered from the Three course menu ($40), so I was able to take a picture of everything. First course: (choice of) *San Francisco dungeness crab chowder: anchor steam beer and muenster cheese *Sonoma greens: roasted butternut squash, Japanese apple pears, candied walnuts, champagne dressing Second course: (choice of) *Herb rock salt crusted prime rib: Idaho baked potato, sour cream, bacon bits, chives, horseradish *Broiled green tea lacquered salmon: roasted sweet potato, baby spinach, shiitake mushroom and white wine citrus reduction *Roasted coriander rubbed chicken breast: sweet potato coins, swiss chard, tomato and toasted pumpkin seeds, chicken jus lie Third course: *Philadelphia cream cheese, seasonal berries garnish, gluten free crumbles and fresh pressed raspberry coulis A la carte: *Maine lobster ravioli: glazed lobster cognac cream ($15) Drinks: The macallan: 18 years old, speyside ($23) De loach, pinot noir, "heritage reserve", California, 2012 ($48) My favorite dish was the crab chowder. Creamy and full of flavor. Unfortunately, that was the only dish I liked. The prime rib was overcooked and chewy. My chicken was like rubber. The only bright spot other than the soup was the macallan 18 that was $23. Not a bad deal. I liked the price point. If SFRW is this disappointing, I can't imagine coming here and paying their outrageous regular prices for the food. Maybe there's a reason I normally stay away from hotel restaurants, but I've definitely had better than Oak Room.

Yelp
Since we stayed at the Westin and we were too lazy to go anywhere else for dinner we decided to try this place out. We had the Three Course Menu: Dungeness Crab Chowder = it was a bit too fishy for my taste Herb and Rock Salt Crusted Prime Rib = this was alright. St. Francis Cheese Cake = I didn't have any, but the Man said it was ok. All of the above for $49....can't beat that. However, the food and the dining experience weren't memorable. The restaurant had maybe 3 other couples in there and that was it.

Yelp
Many reasons i gave 5 stars to this restaurant and they are: Food quality: I had dinner and Breakfast Buffet here, and both were very well made dished. quality service and friendly staff. The restaurant walls are covered with wood (Assuming Oak)which makes it a little dark, but that's not a reason not to go. Convenience: I was staying at the Westin St. Francis. The restaurant is part of the hotel and the fact that you can charge to your room is so convenient for me. Price: The prices are reasonable, may be on the pricey side but really not by much... You go off property and stand in line for food in other restaurants, This one, has no lines. So eat get done and get on your way to exp[lore the city.

Yelp
A very elegant room as expressed by others. My friend and I came for lunch today because she's always wanted to eat at what she assumed was associated with Michael Mina's. Well, wrong. The Oak Room is down the long hallway. Separate dining room. Not Michael Mina. She ordered off the DAT menu. Two courses for $17.95. She got the manhattan clam chowder soup and the scallop salad. I ordered off the standard lunch menu. The kobe beef burger caught my eye so I went with that. Choice of Swiss, bleu, or cheddar cheese. I requested cheddar, burger cooked medium. Burger came with fries. $19.00. Burger was average. Kobe? Tasted like a frozen patty. No flavor. We passed on beverages as I came in with a Starbucks latte. Yeah I know. Tacky. Tax and tip $23 p/p. The diners were primarily people on business and a few tourists. And us two locals.

Yelp
We discovered this place in our hotel at the end of our trip and decided to try their breakfast instead of going to Starbucks up the street. Delicious! I had the crab omelette that had jack cheese and asparagus in the omelette with the crab. I've never had such a good omelette. It also comes with hash browns and a croissant. I was very satisfied after my breakfast and would definitely eat here again. We ate at 8 AM on a Sunday which was also not busy at all. Definitely eat here once if you're staying at the hotel!

Yelp
This is a great restaurant for a business meal if you are in the Union Square area. Food was great. We all had different soup options including crab chowder, chicken soup and French onion soup. All of them were great. I was very happy with my salmon tacos, which was spicy and full of flavors. The service was just fantastic. Regardless of the business of the restaurant due to conference traffic, our waiter didn't miss a beat. Everything was on time, he was very attentive. You need to make a reservation, otherwise it is difficult to get a table.

Yelp
Came here for SF Restaurant Week this year and can't say I was particularly impressed. They had a pretty good selection and the portions were a good size, but I'm not sure the value was there for a $35 lunch menu. We ordered: 1. Crab Chowder - This was pretty good with large servings of crab. Super creamy and wonderful with the bread they gave us! 2. Wagyu Beef burger - Nonono, the burger was over-done and the ratio was all wrong. It was not a good burger at all..:( Overall ambiance was a bit dated, with wood everything and carpeted everything. But its inside the Westin St. Francis, so the older San Francisco building is kind of its whole deal. Service was not great. The man who helped us seemed like he couldn't wait to be somewhere else..but at least the other man made sure our water cups were always full.

Yelp
A few friends and I visited The Oak Room for SF Restaurant Week for lunch. I picked this spot out because their SFRW seemed like a great deal since you get to pick two items (one appetizer and one main entree) from a long list of choices for $25. Out of that long list of items, I decided on ordering the Steak Salad for my appetizer and the Seared Scallops for my main entree. I figured those two items alone would be a steal at $25. And I was right!! Steak Salad -- http://bit.ly/15sNCin Marinated Brandt Farm flat iron steak, parsnip "fries", little gem lettuce, shaved radish, roasted bell peppers, feta and black olive dressing. For a salad, this was a pretty big portion. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare as I requested and I was surprised by how much steak was on the plate! The parsnip "fries" were interesting. Cut and fried to look like fries, but the taste and texture were a little on the rubbery side. Still a good idea though and they gave the salad a unique look. Seared Scallops -- http://bit.ly/15sNPSU Sea Scallops "a la plancha" maple glazed root vegetables, braised kale, brown butter basil reduction This too, surprised me with the the generous portion size. Four nicely sized scallops with braised kale and beets. It was very harmonious in terms of flavor. I really liked this dish! So overall, the Oak Room did very good with their lunch selection with SF Restaruant Week. I think I might go back to try them on a regular day since they impressed me with their scallops. Not sure when I'd go back, but it'll be a good option for me if I'm ever in the Union Square area.

Yelp
I came to the Oak Room for their Dine About Town Restaurant Week for dinner. Their special included a 3 course menu at $40. When we first arrived, my first impression was "old-fashioned", but in a luxurious kind of way. The couches were really interesting until we sat in them. They were soft and comfortable, but sank a bit too deep, and made me feel like a toddler eating with my arms so high up! Anyway, the appetizers were between a Sonoma Greens Salad or a Crab Chowder. There were 3 choices for the entree, a salmon, chicken, and prime rib. I'm not going to lie, I stopped reading what any of the others were when I saw prime rib. The dinner ended with a cheesecake. We started with a basket of bread and butter. Even though there were 3 of us, we got 2 sets of butter, which was convenient. The bread was good, not great, but held my grumbling tummy over until the appetizer arrived. Sonoma Greens Salad (Course 1) -What can I say... I wish I got the crab chowder. I figured since I was going ham for the night with my prime rib, the least I could do was get a salad instead of heavy cream, crab, and high-calorie heaven..I was wrong. Now the salad wasn't bad, but it wasn't really anything special, and it definitely wasn't chowder..*sigh Prime Rib (Course 2): -Yesss get in my belly! There was such a large chunk of prime rib that I needed to take a little box of it to go. Juicy and a perfect medium rare. It also came with a nice medium sized baked potato, broccolini, squash, and baby carrots. There was also a nice side of bacon crumbles, sour cream, and a very strong (and delicious) horseradish sauce. St. Francis Cheesecake (Course 3): Dainty, sweet, and creamy cheesecake. Man I love cheesecake.. But I think I must have done something REALLY good in the world to eat this cheesecake. The raspberry sauce and the fresh berries really balanced out the cheesecake, which was already tangy and light unlike other cheesecakes that kinda weigh you down. Overall, I had a great experience, but I'm not sure if I would be back if not for restaurant week. Although the food was good, it didn't stand out enough for me to come back at full price. The atmosphere is more appropriate for a more mature event, like old golf-club members talking about the economy and how hard it is to find parking for their 6 Lamborghinis in San Francisco. Regardless, I had a pretty good experience. The staff were attentive, kind, and respectful. Maybe I'll come back another time to try them again if I'm in the area.

Yelp
Went here often with Bobby Sherman. My best friend! Bobby lived about 1 mile away. I lived about 5 miles...

Yelp
My dad was in town for a business trip and was staying at the Westin. I took the BART into the city to meet up with my dad and we were planning on going out to dinner, but it was a Saturday night and the Union Square area of SF was teeming with tourists, locals, and hobos alike. We started worrying if we'd have to trek elsewhere for dinner, because it was so damn crowded. We decided to check out the Westin's restaurant options. Michael Mina was $108 per person for a 3-course pre fixe dinner. We nixed that option, and decided to check out the Oak Room instead. We got there around 7 pm, and there was only 2 other tables occupied. We were promptly seated in their comfortable but rather small dining area. The decor is nice, dim lighting from various light fixtures and oak walls and ceiling as the name would imply. It was fancy enough to be considered "nice," but definitely not stuck up. I wore jeans and felt slightly under-dressed, but the server and hostess didn't seem to care. This could be due to the fact that my dad was dressed in a bolo-tie and sports coat though, and it was very clear that my dad would be footing the bill :) I had stupidly eaten a super late lunch that day, and was not particularly hungry. So I just ordered a glass of riesling and the beet carpacchio starter. My dad ordered the beef short-ribs, which came with truffle mashed potatoes. The riesling was delicious, and the beet carpacchio salad was gorgeously plated (I'm still mad at myself that I forgot to take a picture). The flavor of the beet carpacchio was good, tender beets topped with a sweet fruity glaze and tart gorgonzola cheese, with a garnish of radicchio lettuce. My dad was very impressed with his short-ribs, they were tender and juicy and thoroughly cooked (my dad is not a fan of prime-rib or any other kind of half-raw red meat). For dessert, I ordered the "ice cream treat." (Which I DID remember to take a picture of!) Presentation was super cute, tiny scoops of cinnamon, chocolate, and vanilla-bourbon ice cream served in ginger-snap-ish cups. The vanilla-bourbon ice cream was especially delicious, and this dessert was a great way to round off my small meal. My dad and I were very pleased with our meal at the Oak Room. The service was good, and the food was great. I think our total bill for the short-ribs, glass of wine, starter, dessert, and my dad's cappuccino came to ~ $88 before tip. Not cheap by any means, but perfectly reasonable for the ambiance of the place and the quality of the food and service. I'd definitely go again for a "nice" meal at a "nice" place that doesn't completely break the bank.

Ada Y.

Yelp
Came here with a group of friends. Great quiet atmosphere. Inside The Westin and right near all of Union Square. The food was good, but not outstandingly spectacular. For appetizer, I had the crab chowder which was delicious. Not extremely salty, which I find crab chowders to be usually. I had the sea bass, very tasty but rather thin fillet. My friends had the prime rib, cooked to the way it was ordered but had huge chunks of fat. The vegetables on the plate could have been more than broccolini and carrots but I'm not complaining. The dessert was really good as well. The service was fabulous, very attentive. The food came out very quickly. My water glass never went below half way.

Kelly G.

Yelp
Came by for a double date and SF restaurant week. Although its not as popular of an eating establishment around SF, its quiet enough to have a conversation, and central enough to some good bars for post meal drinks. The SF week menu was great! The boys loved their prime rib and the girls loved the salmon. Drinks were alright and the soup and dessert rounded off the meal well enough. My only qualm was with service. Couldn't get the servers to come around enough. And requests seem to take forever, except for maybe the server who was dedicated to the drinks. Total came out to $40 meal + $15 drink = $55 pre tip and tax for a filling meal and good, audible conversation.

Ashley M.

Yelp
I came here with my sisters for breakfast and it was so delicious! We ordered off the alacarte menu and shared. We ordered the blueberry orange granola pancakes, scrambled egg turkey and cheddar wrap, eggs benedict, fresh squeezed orange juice, and coffee. The service was excellent and really friendly. I recommend coming here.

Christine P.

Yelp
This place was OK. my best friends and I stayed at the Westin St. Francis this past weekend for a holiday sleepover with the kids. Although it was tons of fun - it was not RELAXING at all because we had over 10 kids with us and it was pure chaos. Since we were staying at the Westin, we wanted to eat somewhere in the hotel so we didn't have to trek outside in all the madness. The Oak Room was very accommodating because we were able to just call in and put our name on their waiting list and they would call us when they were ready. They called us within an hour and our table was ready for us. Service was great considering we had a group of 10 kids and 6 adults. I took off two stars because prices are definitely high for what you get and the food is just ok and nothing to write home about.

Sharon P.

Yelp
Have eaten here twice while staying at the Westin and while a very old school vibe and decor the food and service is quite good. I would definitely dine here again when at this hotel and although it is not a hip ambience it is a quiet and relaxing experience. I enjoy the throwback to yesteryear feel--like the old Ernies that we used to dine at when I was a kid and we came on our annual eating holidays with my family from Colorado BC Colorado had zero good restaurants. I hope they don't change it to glam it up as it is unique.

Kate R.

Yelp
Stopped in for dessert with my hubby. One word. Indescribable. Delicious desserts; cheesecake for the hubs and chocolate ecstasy for me. Yes, needless to say, we will be back!

Tonn C.

Yelp
I ate here my first night in San Fran. I stayed at the Westin where the restaurant was. They made me wait 20 minutes for a table even though there was barely anyone in there. Then they stuck me by the kitchen entrance which was really annoying with people walking in and out (though the rest of the restaurant was about emptied). The décor was depressing. It looked like my grandmother's old Victorian house that had been left neglected for 3 decades (if I had a White grandmother, that is). The food was even more depressing. I ordered the steak, which was overcooked and tasted like freezer burned meat with A-One sauce as seasoning. As if I wasn't depressed enough by the food and the décor, and getting whiplashed by the wait staff walking in and out of the kitchen, I almost got a panic attack when I got the bill for nearly $100 for a rubber steak. Avoid this place. Save your money (and your mental health).

Wil C.

Yelp
It is a true rarity that I put in one star reviews. Usually when a place is off I will just move on and forget about it. However, for this horror show masquerading as a restaurant I'll make an exception. During the Nike SF Women's run, the Westin St. Francis stated that there would be a special menu for the brave runners, so I made a reservation (totally unnecessary), and brought the misses for her night before pre-run meal. The room itself is gorgeous, but appears to be the all-in-one place for the hotel to have their breakfast buffet, meetings, etc. So, let's just call the service Robotic. They come when they come, don't engage, and probably are being hobbled by the kitchen staff. Except for the Bread Guy. No response to thank you, or how is it going, or anything. Might as well have a Roomba drive by and toss a basket and some hard (HARD) butter at the table. The "Special Meal" turned out to be some pasta with some bland chicken tossed with generic red sauce and undercooked veggies. That's it. Accompanied by a bland salad, and one cut of a small potato. No idea why. But thePièce de résistance was the Gnocchi. Tasteless balls of bland dough, in a gray mystery sauce, mixed with potatoes (again, why?), and topped with dried brussel sprouts. Dried brussel sprouts you ask? So do I. Taste as good as they sound. The whole mess was an amazing achievement in tastelessness. Truly epic. Anyways, lets sum it up with Bland and call it a day. P.S. Westin hotel itself is great. Just has a big flaw down the hallway on the left.

Sue J.

Yelp
Visited for lunch. The service was excellent. The food was fair. We got the combo salad, soup and sandwich. Salad was fresh and enjoyable. The soup was ok and the sandwich was not impressive. It is possible that something else on the menu would have been better.

Yelp
Came for Xmas dinner What a disappointing experience broken chair, Wrong cocktails, asked for dinner after buffet and it was brought within minutes, food was cold, turkey inedible This was a cafeteria type setting at best for 105 a plate Roger Chan was gracious enough to give 50 % off so that was nice, but does it fix the Christmas dinner experience or lack there of? No!

Yelp
Wow, So here we are on Christmas Day 2016 in San Francisco and we go to the Oak Room at the Westin where they have a special holiday menu at $105 a person. Ok, so I figured even in San Francisco for a $210 meal for my wife and I it would be special. So where do I begin... First, the food selection was mediocre at best. The only fish selection was Salmon. The only beef selection was Prime Rib. The hordes were buffet style...okay I guess. We ordered cocktails (no Champagne or wine included with a $105 meal price) and went to the buffet line. Our waitress came to the table a few minutes later and asked if we were ready to place our entree order. We said; "Can we have a few more minutes," when we were basically told; "No, you need to put your order in now so we can prepare it." It was not in those exact words but close. My question then was, why did our waitress ask if we were "ready" to order when she should have said "You must order!" At $105 bucks a pop I can't get a few extra minutes to look over the menu again and talk to my wife? In the Oak Room apparently not. I go up to the buffet salad bar and see a manager on his cell phone going through what looks like text messages in front of everyone. This isn't a Denny's it's the Oak Room at the Westin San Francisco...tacky. Then the entrees come out, or so we thought. The server gave us the wrong plates...it belonged to the table next us. When the food did come it was pretty good (that's why this is two stars and not one) but my wife order coffee that was so strong it seemed like it was made 6 hours ago. Hmmm here's a suggestion - at $105 a person HOW ABOUT PRESSED COFFEE?!?!?! There was other stuff like mediocre desserts (nothing exceptional) and dishes left at the table wayyy to long. I'm not trying to be picky but for the cost this was pretty bad

Yelp
We stayed at the Westin St. Francis and ate breakfast at the Oak Room Sunday morning. We ordered the buffet and the food was less than desirable. The buffet stayed largely empty, although I am aware that Sunday brings lots of people, and the food was bland and runny. The waitress would disappear for long periods and you had to ask repeatedly for cream or sugar. I would suggest anywhere else but here.

Yelp
Place seems like serving leftover food from yesterday at breakfast buffet, cold and totally not appetizing. As it is inside a hotel be prepared to pay a lot of money for it too. The servers are downright rude and have no idea of what courtesy is, actually the place was not full and they still treat you like "when are you leaving?". Do yourself a favor: Go out and eat on the great places you find on the street around the hotel.

Yelp
I'm not sure why this didn't get slightly higher rating from others. We came for the SF Restaurant Week lunch today. We have already been to many of the other options, and these guys had a legitimate menu (not just sandwiches) with a large quantity of choices for both the appetizer and main course. I had the West Coast chopped salad for an appetizer. Lame to go with the salad, I know, but it was pretty mediocre and small. Usually the salad portions are bigger and I was more interested in quantity. Bad decision on my part. My friends got the crab cake though, which was really tasty and a nice large size, and really was what I wanted, but I thought it would be tiny. I was jealous. For an entree I had the White Sea Bass, which was very good. I liked the acorn squash puree with it. The only weird thing was the escarole was sitting under the fish and was super wilted. Another friend had the Sea Scallops and enjoyed them as well. Overall this was a good deal because you had a lot of options and the portions (except for my salad) were normal size portions, not the half/mini portions a lot of restaurants give out during dine about town. The free bread was also really tasty (a plus) and they didn't mind giving us extra. Service was excellent and at a good pace for lunch on a workday. Ambiance was nice and what we expected.

Yelp
Came here for thanksgiving dinner with my family and we had a wonderful time. For starters and appetizers, it was in a buffet format. They had a great selection of small appetizer dishes, seafood, cured meats, and cheeses. I particularly loved the seafood buffet! They had shrimp, crab, and mussels, and they were all fresh and tasty. I opted for the traditional thanksgiving dinner as my main course but they also had a steak option and a salmon option as well. I unfortunately couldn't finish my thanksgiving dinner because I ate a lot of seafood previous to that, but it was still delicious. My step mom had the steak option and loved it. They also had mini pies, cakes, and mousse for dessert and they were all wonderful. A great place for a thanksgiving dinner option!

Yelp
We came here on a "Dine About SF" night (now called "Restaurant Week" and that's probably the only reason we'd come back. The service here is very attentive, and the entrees are reasonably sized. The meals are not worth the price however. You're paying a lot of money for pretty A-OK food. I'm not stingy when it comes to eats, but I want to at least get the right bang for my buck. During Restaurant Week, we had the first course of dungeness crab chowder (3/5), which was tasty enough to eat the whole thing. There was some good crab taste there, and you could taste the chunks of real crab in it. For the price, I'd like a little more crab though. Second course was herb and rock salt crusted prime rib with scalloped potato. (3.5/5) It was flavorful and tasty, but the portion didn't match the price. The potatoes were great though. Dessert was the cheesecake (2/5), which I wish I hadn't eaten. Not worth the caloric content. After dinner coffee was $6, and wasn't worth it at all. Starbucks down the street would have been better. Overall a great experience during Restaurant Week, but I probably wouldn't return for the full price meal.

Yelp
Dark and majestic, the Oak Room in the Westin St. Francis in Union Square, San Francisco, is the kind of place where established people dine before a show at the theatre. The chewy pasta of Four plump Maine lobster ravioli hides smooth succulence of lobster which echoes the sweet of the creamy dark sauce cognac sauce--rich and decadent. Toasted bread nestles warmed fresh burrata floating perfectly on slow roasted tomatoes, acidic and sweet. The smooth cheese mellows the aggressive tart attributes of the cherry and basil adds cool refreshment. Another warming appetizer. Texture is tossed around in the West Coast Chopped Salad with all the usual suspects. The chop of the romaine adds more surface area for toppings and sparkling champagne vinaigrette. The braised short rib with root vegetables, swiss chard and lima beans, was definitely hardy in flavors. Its tender meat strings and shreds practically melting into the rough hash pile. It was a slow night, which could be frustrating and disappointing to servers, but the staff was super friendly and quick to please. A great addition to the hotel with delectable options.

Yelp
Disclaimer: I did not eat here, and in my review, you will see why not. Once a year, my parents invite my siblings and myself to a night out in San Francisco. This year, we stayed at the Westin St. Francis, and booked dinner reservations at the Oak Room (because Michael Mina was booked solid until 10 pm, and we didn't want to eat that late) When we got to the hotel, my dad wanted to double check our restaurant reservations at the Oak Room. He actually checked the day before to make sure, but he is kinda anal about these kinds of things, but it's a good thing that he did do this one final check. He talked to the concierge at the Westin, and the guy called up the restaurant to check, but thought it was strange that no one was answering the phone. After about 30 minutes, he finally discovered that the Oak Room wasn't open that day. I will give kudos to the Westin St. Francis for helping us out on this one, and for securing reservations for us at another restaurant, but the Oak Room will get 1 star from me for booking us a reservation on the day it was closed.

Yelp
Thank you for an excellent breakfast! Our table had a breakfast burrito, scrambled eggs, hash browns and an omelet. All were yummy and the perfect way to start a busy day of shopping.

Yelp
Ruined my Christmas. According to their website and the employees I spoke to two weeks before when I was there for High Tea choosing the Oak Room for Christmas dinner was looking like a good idea. It was not. The website clearly states that children 3 and under ate for free for Christmas. That is not what we experienced, it turns out that if they eat it isn't for free. My server asked how old she was and then followed it with what will she order. I told my server my expectation at that point and was not told anything different. This was all after our server told us how he didn't want to be at work because it was the family reunion marking the anniversary of his mother's death. Sorry about that but inappropriate. Anyway I received a bill for the 3 year old, I pointed out the problem and supported it with the actual website verbiage and was told there was nothing they could do. I will be escalating this issue.

Yelp
This place is hilarious. Totally reminds you of the kind of place where fat old senators sniff brandy and puff on cigars and order Thai prostitutes. When eating someplace as old-school as this, I find it's best to order old school as well. That being said, I ordered the filet mignon cooked medium rare. Ah mah gah. Fucking great slab of beef cooked perfectly. The gorgonzola butter over the top of it was perfect. Also got the creamed spinach as a side. It was exactly what creamed spinach should be--a few leaves of spinach swimming in a stick of butter and a pint of heavy cream. It was salty and buttery and creamilicious. My wife, however, didn't have such luck. She reported that the boullibaise was uninspired. I had a bite of the lobster portion of it, and it was pretty rubbery and overcooked. Eh. I'm telling you, if your dining experience involves being surrounded by wood paneling, it's best to stick to dead cow. We started with a cheddar/crab/artichoke dip. Again, old school did not steer us wrong. It was pretty damn tasty. We finished with a trio of creme brulees. The peanut butter one was excellent, but the coffee one and the chocolate one were so-so. The waitress also slipped us a prefiterole, and it was pretty tasty. The clientele in this place was strange. Because it's attached to a hotel that costs a zillion dollars a night, it's all rich, bored housewives and families from Dubai. Trying to figure out what's going on at each table around you is a great way to spend your meal. "Check out this family...the son clearly goes to a rich, privileged boarding school and thinks that Burberry scarf and that cane make him distinguished!" Anyway, the place is a little pricey, but my meal was pretty amazing and totally worth it. The service was awesome, and they have a pretty decent and reasonably-priced wine list. Just stick to slabs of beef and steer clear of seafood stews.

Yelp
Terrible service. They must have been terribly under staffed or expect everyone to choose the breakfast buffet. We chose instead to order off the menu, big mistake. We should have ordered lunch because that's how long it took for a simple breakfast order. We had a party of four & were led to a nice table. While the place was busy it took over ten minutes for a person to take our drink order. We tried to order our food but he was only authorized to take drink orders. He promised to send our server. Our server came about 15 minutes later and we promptly ordered. That's when the waiting game really began. It took almost 45 minutes to get a standard breakfast order out. When it did make it to the table the eggs were cold, toast was hard and my coffee cup was empty. Another waiting game. It was too expensive for a bad meal in an nice environment. If you are staying at the Hotel, unless breakfast is included in your room rate, do yourself a favor and try one of the great restaurants in that area instead. You will be glad you did.

Yelp
I was at the St. Francis (not part of the Hilton family, I know) for a very special man in my life's birthday. There is Michael Mina and the Oak room, as choices to dine. Ummm, yep, it's like thinking you are seeing Paris Hilton (symbolically, for this review, Michael Mina, the more famous), but decide its OK to see her sister, Nicky. But if Nicky was a steak, she is a really yummy rare prepared Filet Mignon and the Oak Room is the place to taste it! Nicky is underrepresented (the Oak Room) but my special man loves simple things, and he thoroughly enjoyed his steak. It is very , very quite (too bad, but Michael Mina is the loud "wh**re, in this situation), the service was sweet and almost loving, and the crab soup, had c-r-a-b in it, amazing!!!!! I love the dark wood and truly intimate atmosphere. Oh, I like sluts, but the more subtle is sometimes really refreshing.

Yelp
We stayed at this hotel last night so four of us met here for breakfast to start the day. We opted for the breakfast buffet and it was pretty good. They stocked it full of fresh fruit, and that was our favorite part. My daughter ate an entire bowl of raspberries and blackberries. She also had an egg white omelet and she loved it. The scrambled eggs on the buffet were not good at all. They were very wet and not very hot. Yuck. The other things on the buffet were good, but nothing was great. They have several cereals and oatmeal along with yogurt and some other hot items. When staying at this hotel, the Oak Room is convenient. Otherwise, I probably would not go out of my way to eat here.

Yelp
The traditional dining room feels a bit dated and the service was spotty. Although the food was very fresh and high quality, the breakfast buffet was pricey at $26 pp and consisted of your typical selection of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, smoked salmon, oatmeal, yogurt, fresh fruits, boring cereal choices (this is part of the hotel's effort to promote healthy living), coffee, orange juice. The food is good for what it is and they did a good job making sure there was never an empty dish at the buffet. Honestly, I would never have breakfast here if I didn't get the hotel breakfast voucher. I'm not a fan of engorging myself on high caloric foods, but the a la carte menu prices are outrageous, even for a hotel restaurant. $5.25 for Starbucks drip coffee or tea, $4.25 for one egg and the kicker---$10 for a bowl of boxed cereal! There are so many better restaurants right outside the hotel that costs a fraction of what Oak Room charges.

Yelp
Gave this place a shot during Dine About Town... Wine selection was good and economical. We were able to find a good Pinot from Washington for a fair price!! Food was so so. We had ribs which was mediocre at best. Soup was probably the best part of the meal. The Chocolate dessert was too rich. Restaurants shouldn't give the excuse of 'you should try us when it's not Dine About Town.' I believe you have to put your best foot forward everyday regardless of the menu or price you're charging. Oak Room had one chance on me and I will not head back. Michael Mina down the hall is much better - both service and food ;-)

Yelp
Quick and easy place to eat as a hotel guest of the Westin St. Francis. Go for the Dungeness Crabmeat Omelet with asparagus and Sonoma jack cheese as as a special San Francicso treat to yourself! At $22, it's a little pricey but worth it for all the sweet, delectable, fresh crab meat inside and just the right amount of cheese. Served with some delish rosemary has brown potatoes and toast - I opted for rye. Westin hotels always brew Starbucks coffee and I asked for mine to go since I had a meeting to get to. Great way to start the day!

Yelp
Service is impeccable. Breakfast was delicious! Great place to have a work breakfast. I hear the dinner menu is fabulous too.
