When I asked the hubs what he wanted to do for our 35th anniversary, he told me a fresh seafood dinner sounded good. Mind you, we live in a small town in the middle of the high desert of Northeastern Nevada, so this is a pretty tall order. I asked if he thought DC would have fresh enough seafood, he said sure, so we hopped on a plane for a few days in the Capitol City.
We had lots of options, but after looking at a lot of them, we choose this establishment based on selection, location, and other reviews.
It was a Sunday night, so it wasn't too busy. Our reservations weren't until 6:30, but we got there a little early since we were walking from our hotel and wanted to make sure we had plenty of time. We were greated warmly and the friendliness of staff immediately put us at ease. While we are foodies and love a good meal, fine dining in our community means putting on the good Levis or a pair of sequined jeans. We felt fancy dressing up for dinner.
They got us right in and put us at an amazing table in the front where we had a view of the street. Even with other patrons in the restaurant, the noise level was minimal. The backgroud chatter and laughing of other guests was at a very respectable level.
Our server, Daniella was very knowledgable and attentive. I can't remember the gentleman who came over and visited with us (I apologize that your name eludes me) to wish us a happy anniversary and present us with the menu scroll as an anniversary momento, but it was a very nice touch!
We opted to share a single crab cake for an appetizer, as we knew we'd be wanting dessert. It was crisped to perfection and very flaky. The mustard mayonaisse was a very tasty enhancement.
Hubs opted for the chicken fried lobster with cheese grits. He rated it a 9/10. I tried a bite of it and agreed that was a fair rating. It was really good, but comparing it to my crab stuffed barramundi, it would have been hard to give it a 10.
So on to my meal. The crab stuffed barramundi was one of the most delicious fish dishes I've ever had. There was nothing about it that could have been better! The buttery smooth taste made it feel like every bite was melting in my mouth. The crab stuffing was perfectly seasoned, and it made the dish something I would eat again! A solid 10/10 in my opinion.
We then went on to the dessert, which we both knew we wouldn't be able to finish. Since we both have very different tastes in dessert, though, we thought it would be best to order our own. Hubs ordered the cheesecake which he said was very good. Don't get me wrong, I love a good cheesecake, but he likes the extra fruity stuff and I like the sweet cookie types (think caramel, nuts, and chocolates for me - ha!) I ordered the sticky toffee pudding. While the whole thing was rich and decadent, my favorite part of it was the delicious ice cream. It was probably the best vanilla ice cream I've ever had. (I'm not typically a huge fan of vanilla ice cream, so this is a big deal for me.)
I would highly recommend this restaurant!
