The 15 Best Restaurants In Durango, Colorado

"Mention to your boss that you're headed to The Office on a Saturday and two things might happen: they’ll make a corny workplace joke or take you literally and praise your strong work ethic. Whatever happens, you should probably make note that The Office to which you're referring is the Spiritorium, a Victorian-style bar situated inside the historic Strater Hotel. Here you'll find plenty of options like the Embezzlement, a warm cocktail made with coffee and Bailey's, to help you decompress after a long work week. The decor attracts tourists interested in getting a taste of The Strater's history, while the nightly live music and high-quality drinks bring in the locals. The bartenders take their job quite seriously (this is their office, too) mixing up elaborate cocktails to help loosen up the out-of-towners still adjusting to the elevation. Take a seat at one of the mahogany tables surrounded by rare antiques, order a drink, and settle in to relish the fact that you're one step closer to a promotion." - kristin smith

I love the vibes of this place! Cozy and eclectic and a little oldschool upscale. The cocktails and food were thoughtful recipes and well executed.

Ryan, my son, and I wanted to hear some good music and sample the local fare. We hit a home run tonight. Sean O’Brien was strumming his guitar and showcasing his arrangements of some of my favorites. Also got to meet his partner, Steve, who was in the audience. Steve & Sean perform together in the band, Horseshirt. Gotta be careful with that second “r”. Now for the food & service. Ryan had the Lamb Meatballs. He raved about the cream sauce & wished he had a slice of bread to sop up every last drop. He shared 2 of the meatballs and they were delicious. If a classically trained chef raves about something, it has to be special. A wedge salad is one of my favorites. This one met my expectations. It was refreshing, flavorful & satisfying. Both the bartender, who is from Columbia, and the server were attentive, friendly, informative and interesting to visit with.

I really like this place but their happy hour has been greatly depleted. Live music most nights and an older crowd. See photo for recent happy hour.

Rico did an awesome job hosting us at the bar tonight! Great guy and he prepared great drinks for my friend and I!

I loved this bar! Callie was a great waitress. The atmosphere was amazing! The mousse was to die for. The drinks were also really good. The live music was nice as well. You can explore a little of the hotel when you go in too. It was such a cool experience.

Google
Great cocktail bar and restaurant in the historic Strater Hotel in Downtown Durango. We went on a Saturday night and they had a guitar player playing great music. Our group ordered several cocktails and entrees - a vegetable pasta, stuffed acorn squash, Chile rilleno, and Mahi mahi, and everything was super tasty. The wait staff was super friendly and accommodating too. Highly recommended

I spotted this Spiritorium the first time we drove downtown and I was intrigued. I was destined to go here during our 9-day stay and I am so happy we made it. *smiles* I love, love, love the intimate atmosphere. During our visit, the guitarist was looping Johnny Cash and I was in heaven. the fireplace was next to us, we had a great window seat and our server was a gem of a delight. I ordered a dirty martini with blue cheese stuffed olives and I was impressed. Buzzed and impressed. I wish we would have nibbled on an appetizer since the reviews favor the food just as much as the cocktails.

My goodness, this evening could not have gone better! Great drinks, great food, and fantastic music! My wife and I were staying at the Strater while we closed on our local home. We knew about the office but for some reason, in the past, we always ended up at the Diamond Belle. While the belle is great, I think we will be visiting the office regularly once we are locals. Our server was incredibly polite and prompt. He was there when we needed him, and not when we didn’t. Absolutely perfect. The drinks were meticulously prepared. My old-fashioned was made perfectly, with the right amount of sweetness and the perfect whiskey flavor. Not overpowering at all. The acoustic guitarist who was playing that night fit the atmosphere perfectly. He was laid-back, and easy to listen to. We tipped heavy and enjoyed the evening. It was a perfect night.

Yelp
We visited the Office Spiritorium the evening of July 2 and had an amazing time. First off, the ambiance is even better than five stars. My husband does commercial interiors and is super picky about quality, and kept telling me he couldn't find a single thing that the hotel did wrong either in the (centuries old) original construction or the maintenance and renovations that have taken place over the years. The interior is lush, historical and very very high end. Yet, it is comfortable enough that you can relax if you're wearing semi-casual clothing (as we were). Secondly, we had five drinks, including a mango margarita and a gimlet and all were well done, with complex notes, and at a reasonable price ($12-14 per, and I'd expect to pay $15+ for a cocktail of that quality in an equivalent environment in a larger city). There's also the benefit of ordering off any one of the hotel's three restaurant menus. I ordered the Mediterranean appetizer (which had hummus and two other dips with fresh pita bread) and the hummus was lemony and garlicky and everything good while the pita quarters were fresh and fluffy. Yum. My husband had some creatively named nachos which had wonton skins, Alfredo sauce, mozzarella cheese and Italian sausage and he's still talking about them a week later. Very fresh and very unique. The service was also exceptional. They have a small staff and anyone can help you. They aren't super speedy (just not the vibe) but the fact that they obviously work as a team means that someone is usually walking by your table every 2-3 minutes and everyone was gracious and friendly. The cherry on top of the entire experience was the guest guitarist they had playing. He was AMAZING and we stayed an extra hour just for him. Youngish guy with blonde hair that knows his songs and his instrument inside out and backwards and is more than a decent singer to boot. Great environment and a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Bravo!

Yelp
Gorgeous spot for a few drinks on Main Street! After a full day of walking, shopping and exploring Durango we stopped by this beautiful little bar for a night cap. It's a quaint two-story layout decorated in rich wood and vintage decor. We found the best spot in the place, right in front of fireplace and near the very talented live musician. Our server, Ms. V was cute and sweet but very busy as she seemed to be the only server. Our drinks were good but we were only able to get a couple due to last call at 10p. Hope to visit again soon!

Yelp
Loved this place! Wanted to go somewhere for a cocktail after dinner and this was the perfect spot. The ambiance of the place makes you feel like you're in the 1920s. My drink, the Emperors Garden, was fantastic. There was also someone playing live music! I just sipped my drink and enjoyed the music for about an hour. Great place to just hang and enjoy a drink- even if you're by yourself like I was!

Yelp
Have been coming here for 20 years.. stopped by for a beer today and had the rudest bartender ever. It's hard to hire good people in Durango but I hope the office replaces her.

Yelp
The office A elk steak with asparagus, oysters Rockefeller, mushrooms stuffed with Italian sausage and I veal Demi, perfect! Matt, Carson, Jade and Sallie were amazing. Each and Everyone had their own individual personalities that were amazing. I cannot imagine going back to this place and not one of those for working there it would not be as fun. We had some great old fashions, actually they were so good that we ended up ordering another for each of us. Once again, I always thank the employees for working, we love them and I love that they had live music. The guy was really entertaining. I WOULD RECOMMEND.

Yelp
Last night we enjoyed music from the 60s & 70s while we drank water & mixed drinks. Tonight the music is mellow & contemporary from a different guitarist. Niece is having another Shirley Temple since she is 11 years away from drinking age. I decided to try the Black Market. Older niece and her hubby tried something different - Dirty Martini instead of Jack Daniels and Secretary instead of Lemon Drop. All were delicious. They were not too expensive - average prices. Lots of choices to drink in different price ranges - and appetizers from low to high. We had excellent potstickers last night. Tonight we just had drinks because we have dinner reservations down the street. Last night we sat in a booth by the window. Tonight we sat by the fireplace, but had no fire. Both nights we had excellent service. We were also comfortable in both seating places.

Yelp
A super fun, vibrant spot for cocktails - couples or groups can mingle in. It's a slice of the past and for us the last stop of the night. Emperors Garden cocktail was delish. The stained glass and decor charming.

Yelp
We had so much fun at The Office. It was my first time in Durango, so we had drinks and apps with hubby's work peeps. Our waitress was so fun and laid back. She made sure our drinks were full and that we had everything we needed. The food was all pretty good. It was a great time. Cheers!

Yelp
The Office has a great atmosphere and comfy seats. The mixed drinks were creative and looked delicious but we were there for the bread pudding and maybe a drink. We walked in and sat at a table by the bar and the entertainment so you would think someone would have noticed us but after 10 minutes, I got up and went to the bar, got involved in a conversation with a bartender and customer and then went back to my seat. We sat for another 10 minutes before Ethan came over and asked if he could get us anything. We got our bread pudding and I had a Rye neat. We enjoyed the Bread Pudding but it wasn't the best I'd had, short on the sauce and lots of raisins. If we had been even acknowledged within the first 10 minutes or even after I made sure we were seen, I would have added a star. In a tourist destination where most are not from the area and there is no hostess, (everyone else just walked in and sat down too) it's not a good idea to ignore patrons and stand around and have conversations with friends and/or regulars, they may walk out or stay and call you on it.

Yelp
The Office is a great spot for some fine drinks and apps. Live music too! Relaxing vibes and good people.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite atmosphere to get a drink in. Live music most evenings and a well appointed, yet cozy lounge to enjoy your drink in. A small bar and decent bartenders. The only downside is that they have appetizers that are pretty good but no entrees. There are restaurants next door thought if you want to get a full meal. If I have a thirst, you'll almost always find me listing to the nightly music here enjoying a well made drink.
google avatar

Yelp
We did not eat here, but our drinks and cocktails were great! The service was perfect. All her drink suggestions were on point. The crowd seemed lively and happy. I just might be going back today!
google avatar

Yelp
We didn't sample food here, just drinks. The atmosphere is phenomenal - it's very reminiscent of a late 1800s gentlemen's club. The architectural and design touches really added to the experience. They also have fascinating little artifacts along the walls, like old stock certificates and medical almanacs. I had a Secretary and my husband had the Daily Journal, and we loved them so much that we ordered a second round of the same. They were nuanced and well-balanced, and clearly some skill went into designing and mixing them. The staff was friendly, but the only reason for one fewer star is because they seemed easily overwhelmed (without the place being full) and a bit slow at times. But it really was a great experience - very enjoyable!

Yelp
Got an awesome martini by one bartender... but then 10 minutes after we got it. the other bartender said she was locking the door in 8 minutes. Felt way too rushed to enjoy my martini.

Yelp
We had a fabulous experience at The Office. The atmosphere is very special. Great entertainer with a very nice voice. The highlight tho was our server Madeline. She was so sweet and helpful and even tho she was taking care of a huge party she sat at our table for a moment and helped us choose our drinks and they were spot on choices she even thanked us for our business and said how much she appreciated us. In a time of less than mediocre customer service we enjoyed superb service and a lovely smile. Thank you!

Yelp
A unique experience in Durango. The atmosphere is terrific and so are the drinks. The appetizers are also creative. A great place for a light meal.

Yelp
Truly one of our favorite bars we've been to. We were there in a Sunday night and they had live music playing. Amazing drinks and superb service. A MUST

Yelp
So my family and I were waiting in our hotel room at the Strater Hotel and downstairs was the Office! My daughter got a Shirley Temple, I got a Lemon Drop, my husband got a Jack Daniel's on the rocks. The atmosphere was amazing. It made me feel like I was in the 1950s. It was awesome. The staff was so kid friendly and they were very good at telling us about the drinks. The music from the 1960s made me feel like I was at home.

Yelp
Walked by this drinking establishment in the historic district. It felt like a speak easy at first..It's very busy. Which is a good sign. We sat upstairs. We had a great view to "people watch." Live music was playing, pretty good vocals playing covers. The bar looks like a cozy saloon, the seats were comfortable, booths & open tables. We didn't try the food, but our drinks were tasteful and artfully crafted. My husband had The Daily Journal" & I had " The Spanish Love Affair." The prices were reasonable for hand crafted. Great customer service that checked in on you but didn't hover. Cone in for a drink!

Yelp
Of course, everyone wishes that instead of reporting to their office, they could report the "The Office", a small and cozy bar dressed in late 19th century attire. We visited The Office during our stay at the Strater Hotel a few weekends ago in Durango. We sat up in the lofted area of the bar and, after a few other patrons left, were able to settle into two leather arm chairs to enjoy our drinks and appetizers. They have several beers on tap from around Colorado, and CB ordered the closest they had to an IPA (disappointing omission given the Colorado beer vibe). I ordered the Black Market, which was beautiful in color, but a bit boozy, even for a cocktail lover. Our appetizers were good, and a bigger size than we were expecting. We had the spinach and artichoke dip and the bruschetta. Service was a bit slow, but I'd still recommend a quick visit to this cute spot.

Yelp
This uber cozy upscale bar serves outstanding martinis, delicious appetizers and has the warmth of a private British library. The mill work is stunning, dark woods, deckled dentil molding, fancy trim, an elegant banister, a small but warm fireplace (if you get lucky you can get the couch for two right in front) Its filled with little nooks where you can imbibe and convive. Big cushioned stools and chairs. And yet, this is Durango, so it not fussy or snobby or pretentious. While its dark and clubby in here, its not sullen or overly swank. No one will give you the Churchill stare if you laugh a little too loudly. And even better, most night they have a guitarist playing singer-songwriter tunes of old. Pretty great place!

Mary R.

Yelp
Loved this place! Brit was fun and Drew at the bar poured some great Old Fashioneds for us. We had a great night w lots of plates-beet carpaccio, bacon wrapped dates, meat and cheese platter, cornbread, and calamari. We had to order them all and they were not disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
Based in the historic Strater Hotel, The Office Spiritorium has fantastic cocktails and Ian is awesome!

Yelp
The Office is one of my favorite spots in Durango. Great drinks and happy hour, live music and good food make it hard not to love. The happy hour is a great value. Make sure to try the wings! They are full-sized chicken drumsticks in a sweet/spicy buffalo sauce. Adult Candy and Stuffed Jalepeños are great too!

John M.

Yelp
Love this place! Great vibe including live music (at dinner), beautiful setting including large windows, extensive menu (including elk), craft cocktails and very fun servers Abbey and Andromeda. We were there two nights in a row and intend to come back whenever we are back in Durango.
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
This place has amazing drinks! I ordered an Austin City Limits on the rocks which was perfectly tart yet still somewhat sweet. My husband had the Brown Derby (whiskey drink) and he enjoyed it. We even had live music which although mellow, was entertaining. This is a really chill spot to have a drink with your sweetie before or after dinner. And the history of the place (hotel) is great.

Yelp
We moved over from the Diamond Belle...mistake!! We were there Sunday, October 9th at 5pm Someone in our party ordered a vodka with tonic. The tonic was not fresh. As a bartender every day when you come in you should clear your soda lines from the overnight stagnant sodas. The tonic was flatter than flat. When our friend told Tessa that it did not taste right she took it back to the bartender. The bartender poured himself a glass and responded it is fine. Poor Tessa...she came back to us with the same vodka n tonic and repeated what the bartender told her. Well as a past bartender you just remake the drink and apologize!!!! Since there were 6 of us drinking heavily and wanting dinner. WE LEFT!!!! I guess the Mahogany does not worry about there business there is always a warm body to fill the chair you left!! We felt very sorry for Tessa. You could she how upset and embarrassed she was. Thank you Ken n Sue's for being so accommodating!!!

Michael W.

Yelp
We stopped by for drinks and appetizers after returning from Silverton. The atmosphere was intimate, the live music was great and the food was delicious. To top it off, our waitress, Julie, was absolutely fantastic. She was friendly and very attentive. She kept right on top of our order and made sure our drinks were filled. A very positive experience! If you are in Durango, stop by, you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Nicole O.

Yelp
Stopped in for a relaxing drink in front of the fireplace before our night out for New Years. Had a bottle of champagne and relaxed in front of the fireplace. Great menu, happy hour and also a tequila flight. Must stop.
google avatar

Kay K.

Yelp
My husband and I found this place by walking by on the night of our seventh wedding anniversary, and we really enjoyed our time. The drinks were strong, and the bartender was very personal. I do think having a larger dessert menu would offer better options to customers, but I would definitely return for a drink.

John B.

Yelp
The Office is one of our favorite spots for cocktails and live music. Dustin plays guitar on Fridays and he is great. The Office has great atmosphere and the servers are very good as well. I was however disappointed recently to be charged $32.00 for a double Basil Hayden whiskey. It was a double, but not an overly generous pour and I consider Basil Hayden a decent whiskey, but not nearly worth what I was charged. I'll be back but will be drinking something more fairly priced.
google avatar

Kari P.

Yelp
Every time I have been here the service has been great. The bartenders are very personable and make it a fun place to be. They have a great Happy Hour and live music by local favorites. Monday night wit Rob Webster is my favorite. Did I forget to mention the Wild West charm of the decor?
google avatar

Erin A.

Yelp
The Office has been a solid go-to on my list of places to stop and have a drink in downtown Durango. Located in the historic Strater hotel, the bar is less a bar and more an intimate cocktail lounge, resplendent with late 19th century touches. It's nice to have more of an "adult" place to go. They've got a decent wine list and some solid cocktails. You can also enjoy live music on select nights. The place can be crowded at times -- if so, try to grab a table in the little hallway off to the right of the bar. They are super cozy and you almost feel like you've got your own little secret spot in a busy bar. For the most part, service has always been friendly, if not always super quick -- particularly when it gets crowded (which it often is). I don't necessarily fault them for that, as the actual bar is super small and usually only has one or two bartenders. That being said, on one occasion, after standing at the bar for an inordinate amount of time, I had one of the bartenders look straight at me and literally tell me he couldn't wait on me and I had to wait for the other bartender to get done. My feeling is, if you can take that few seconds to talk to me, you can wait on me. Simply getting my order goes along way in me being willing to wait for a bit for my drink. Also, multitasking. Regardless, I'm still a fan and will continue to be a repeat customer.

Yelp
Our server was a delight. Cocktails were top drawer, but the prime rib special was disappointing. Stick with drinks and appetizers here.
google avatar

Mikala M.

Yelp
Old school atmosphere with class! This place is a lounge but has a dining area in another room for larger groups. The atmosphere is super intimate & unique! It literally feels like your sitting in your grandfather's study or library! They had $3 draft beer specials but only offered 2 choices when we stopped in. Pretty good deal if you ask me! Waitress was good but didn't make an effort to really chat or offer up any information about the place.

Keith K.

Yelp
Very cool place to come and have a cocktail. Quite disappointed that they were out of the house infused candied pecan bourbon drink I really wanted, but the Old Fashioned was really good. Classic upscale glassware you'd expect to find in a high end cocktail lounge. Cool place. I'd come back for sure. Cocktails are very reasonably priced for this type of place.
google avatar

Brenda M.

Yelp
My favorite place to go after 5. Incredible specials, but the best part is watching the world go by from the window booth near the fireplace. There is a most beautiful peacock on the wall, and the classic Victorian woodwork and wallpaper put me back in time. It may sound strange to mention, but the chairs are the most comfortable in town. It's a cozy spot to while away an evening, and the musicians are always fantastic. I have always enjoyed the very best service there and even when it's busy the waitstaff are superb.
google avatar

Kathleen V.

Yelp
We were vacationing in Durango and stopped in for a cocktail. To our pleasant surprise it was happy hour. We took advantage and ordered the bacon wrapped jalapeños which were lovely. Their wine list, while not extensive, was impressive and well priced. We decided to stay for supper and ordered the trout to share. Unfortunately it was unremarkable at best (which is the only reason I'm giving the place a four instead of a five) To finish we ordered a glass of bubbly and split a delicious creme brûlée cheesecake. The cherry on top of the evening was the one-man band that started around seven. His repertoire was impressive and he was quite the entertainer. This is definitely a place I would visit again and one of the highlights of our trip.
google avatar

Sara W.

Yelp
This is a fun little bar inside a historic institution that is worth enjoying. I have had mixed drinks and wine, and it is always a great experience. The more crowded it is the more fun and I find that it doesn't take long for it to get a crowd.
google avatar

Frank M.

Yelp
This place is COOL. One thing I hate about live music is that it's a little too loud. Maybe I'm just old, who knows. But there was a guy just strumming his acoustic guitar in the corner, singing quietly, providing a great backdrop to the evening. Everything in this joint is original and well kept. It's like it was built 100 years ago, and hasn't changed since while being meticulously maintained. Wood everywhere, chandeliers hanging, and old timey bar set up. I enjoyed it. I wouldn't recommend the spring rolls as I didn't find them super appetizing, but everything else was wonderful. "Honey, I'm staying late at The Office tonight" is the beginning of the end of all marriages.
google avatar

Barbara S.

Yelp
Wow! I can't believe the poor reviews. We came here a couple of times during our recent visit to Durango. The barmaids (in keeping with the theme of the place) were friendly, nice and attentive (and we are over 20 years old!) The Happy Hour Cosmos are smooth and definitely buzz-inducing. Both times we scored a booth by the window so not only enjoyed our drinks, but the great people watching, too!
google avatar

Cera W.

Yelp
I love this bar. I come here whenever I go to Durango. The bartenders are awesome. Totaly friendly and open, funny, great guys. I love the old west atmosphere, really fun. Prices are not expensive, decent wine list. Great place to meet people for drinks before going out to dinner. Should definitely check this place out!!
google avatar

Louisa D.

Yelp
By far, the best Happy Hour in Durango... cost, food, drinks, atmosphere, location, people! Get there early, it fills up quick. Great news is, all the pricing is still great outside of Happy Hour... and seating opens up. I love the couch in front of the fire place!
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
The vibe here is very cool and the cocktails are pretty good. If absinthe is your thing you'd love it but anis flavored cocktails aren't my thing.

Geoff H.

Yelp
Great place to relax and have drinks... Err.. well, if you can get them, or get them down... Horrible drinks, bad service, and high prices. There are more classy places to have a cocktail in Durango. Unfortunately, I believe the Office has seen it's day.
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
Love love LOVE The Office! Their happy hour drink and appetizer specials are outstanding. I highly recommend the truffle fries and the crab dip! Their cocktails are well crafted and their bar/waitstaff are always very professional and prompt. The space is perfectly lit, intimate and visually appealing.

Yelp
I just remembered this place. It was totally amazing. The chicken parmesan with pasta is out of this world. I stuffed myself and still couldn't finish it. Service and ambiance was nice too. We had a really good musician singing for us diners. It was super nice. I hope to be back one day!

Yelp
COSMOS during Happy Hour. We enjoyed this place 3x's and were served hand shaken Cosmos. They were the best of the three places we tried Cosmos on this trip.
