Flying Embers Taproom review Review - Arts District - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"While there are beers at this Arts District taproom, Flying Embers specializes in a different type of brew. Hard kombuchas, elderflower seltzers, white wine spritzers, and keto-friendly teas made with an apoptogenic root blend—you’ll find it all at the Ojai brewery’s Arts District taproom, along with plant-based snacks and bánh mì sandwiches packed with brisket that’s been smoked for 18 hours. There’s a huge, barn-like drinking space that looks ripped from your most charming countryside daydream, with soaring wooden beams, lots of room to sit, and cucumber juniper kombucha on tap." - Kat Hong

Ojai Beverage Company Review - Ojai - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"From the front, Ojai Beverage Company looks like a regular liquor store. But just like the mullet your brother insisted on at age 14, this place is business in the front and party in the back. The back bar area has 50 taps of regularly rotating beers and a simple food menu of burgers, wings, and surprisingly great mini lobster rolls. It’s a good spot for a casual lunch, or a relaxed dinner of burgers and beers." - Jess Basser Sanders

Google
When you enter, it looks like a very large liquor store. At the back is a bar/restaurant. The prices, the food, and service were great. I highly recommend stopping by. I had the beer flight trio as well as the mezcal flight/sampler.

You will not go be disappointed with stopping by and enjoying a cool craft beer and delicious specialty burger at the Ojai Beverage Company. We have been twice since moving to the area and will be back!! I was coerced into the “cheat day” and was not disappointed and neither will you! (see pic - yes it’s huge and no, I didn’t finish it!) Service was top notch and to be commended on accurately describing the nuances of the craft beer options we each chose. Craft beer selection options are plentiful amazing as well!!

It is a very unexpected sweet place to have yummy desserts and truffle fries while shopping for bottles of wine for a family party. We had only planned to shop, but the charming staff and adorable atmosphere had us sitting at the table and ordering snacks. You will be delighted with everything from the music to the lighting and super knowledgeable staff.

Google
Move over, Ojai food scene—Conrad, the reigning general manager and register wizard, wasn’t kidding. This spot isn’t just #1 rated; it’s Ojai’s best-kept culinary secret, hidden in plain sight! The meats? Succulent masterpieces of flavor. The drink selection? A dazzling spectrum, featuring even the elusive Ramune soda for the kiddos (because fizzy fun knows no age limits). And the staff? Long-term legends, serving up both deliciousness and charm with a side of friendly banter. Five stars? Pfft, give them the whole galaxy!

Google
Everything was great, I was very pleased with the opportunity to replace the meat patty in the burger with a vegetarian one. It's brilliant!!!

Google
Absolutely love this place. Reminds me of Tennessee where I’m from. I love it, excellent food and service. Great selection of drinks! They are fast and thorough. I have never had anything bad here. My go to is the turkey burger with blackened fries. They are great with splitting things which is so nice a lot of places don’t do that so well. It feels like a second home.

Went here for lunch on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The smells coming from the kitchen were amazing and when the food got to the table our eyes were in heaven. Our server was super friendly and fun to chat with. Not crowded at all on the day we were there so the food came out quick. Oh and the food tasted great. The menu had so many things that interested me that I have to come back to try out some more dishes.

Google
This was my second time eating here, the can burger with Cabernet reduction and thyme aoli is fantastic. Food is generally better than expected for being a liquor store and bar. Fries are overcooked in my opinion though. We had a different server this time and we weren't sure if he was having a bad day or just didn't like us, openly unfriendly to us walking away several times in the middle of speaking. The owner is great and always friendly and helpful. The liquor store has a wonderful, expansive selection for being a relatively small shop in a small town. Good wines, local and international spirits, along with craft beer and ciders.

Yelp
Really nice vibe the moment you walk through the front door. We were seated straight away by Rebecca, who served us. With 50 brews on tap, it's likely you'll find something to please your palate. We went with a Pizza Port red and flight of Transmission Brewing flight of lager, IPA and porter. The lager was crisp and refreshing. If you like citrus IPAs, this one is for you. My favorite was the porter. Loads of coffee flavor without being heavy. Pizza Port brews are consistently good and Shark Bite didn't disappoint. Turns out their pretzel sticks are outstanding and come with a flavorful aioli. We went with the pulled pork sandwich and Throw It Back Cab burger with mushrooms added. The burger was closer to well done than medium, which is what I ordered. However, the burger was really nice. Recommend asking for medium rare if you want medium. Their pork was roasted to perfection, tender, moist and packed with flavor. And the fries? Simply outstanding! For dessert, I opted for their flight of bourbon. Decent pour on all three. The Balcones Texas was a pleasant surprise as I didn't expect a balanced mash blend that leaned toward sweet. Bourbon drinkers know what to expect from Old Forester. But the cask strength Elijah Craig was an unexpected treat! The barrel was hand picked by Conrad, the in-house whiskey sherpa. And if you're a fan of bourbon, chat this guy up. He is incredibly knowledgeable and very friendly. If we lived in Ojai, hands down, this would be our regular hangout. Great service. Great beverages. Great food. If possible, we'll be back! Cheers!

Yelp
Wife and I decided to enjoy the day in Ojai on Christmas Eve. We figured most things would be closed, but so glad we discovered The Ojai Beverage Company. Drinks and Food were amazing, and well priced. We for the Cheat Day Burger which has a menagerie of proteins from beef patties, to crab and lobster. Our nephew was with us and got delicious Mac and Cheese and the fries are top notch. Jonathan the server was super friendly, did a great job checking on us, and they were great with our reserved 4-legged son. The ambiance has a wooden restaurant feel on the patio, but plenty of locals were dining there so that adds to the charm. Definitely a great place to eat if you're in Ojai.

Yelp
To sum it up: Food: good. Service: good. Ambiance: that of a liquor store or a small pub. The layout of this place is a little odd as you walk into a liquor store and head toward the back to get to the restaurant. We were given the option of the covered patio or the tables right in the store. We opted for the covered patio that has much more room. Our drinks came, a Roy Roger's and Shirley Temple, mainly ice with a tiny bit of soda and grenadine. Then came the food. The kids chicken bites filled my mini-me up. The fries looked a little dark but were pretty good, not burnt at all. They have kid menus and Crayola crayons to entertain children (yes "crayola" not some cheap knockoff). My kid enjoyed his chicken bites to the last bite, which is rare for him. We ordered "The Q!" and a Western Drunk Burger. The Q is a heart stopping sandwich that will have your doctor cringing no matter how healthy you are, but it's worth every bite. The Q is a pulled pork sandwich with Mac n cheese and bacon on sourdough. I was lucky enough to get to finish half of this sandwich after finishing my burger despite not having much room left in my belly. My Western Drunk Burger was a hearty heavy perfectly cooked piece of beef, with onion straws and bbq sauce on a brioche bun. I got mine without the coleslaw as I've never been a fan. One bite of this burger and I knew exactly why this place came so strongly recommended. Up until that bite I wasn't impressed with a sticky table and ice filled drinks. One bite after another I couldn't put the burger down until finished. I found myself licking my fingers after contemplating a second. We both got the truffle fries at a cost of $2 more per meal, which we could've done without as the regular fries were better. The truffle fries were crispier but too light in flavor. Overall everything was reasonably priced, and pretty good. We will definitely be coming back. That's this critic's review, until next time, I'll be eating.

Yelp
Food is always fantastic. Haven't had anything we didn't love. Best fish tacos anywhere

Yelp
As an Ojai local, I have no idea how I have not tried this place sooner?!... AMAZING food, drinks & ambiance. My favorite pick from our dinner was definitely the Thai Chili Wings in combo with an IPA. Plus we received really warm and welcoming service from multiple staff members. Can't wait to come back and try other yummy things on the menu!

Yelp
One of our favorite places to eat in Ojai! We visited the Friday after Tday for the day and the town was busy! Service staff were attentive and the small indoor dining area at noon was full (we got the last vacant 4 top) and others who arrived after us were seated in the patio area. All 3 of us really enjoyed our meals. My adult son practically inhaled his ;-) Despite being in a market for primarily adult beverages, the dining area has a chill ambiance too.

Yelp
Food was ridiculously delicious. I had The Q, which is Mac & Cheese, pulled pork, and fried onions (pictured). My husband had the Western Drunk. I personally did not try it but he swore it was THE best burger he's ever had. My son had their kid's chicken bites and he cleared his plate so that should tell you something. The service was awesome and all around an enjoyable experience. Our first time here, but it definitely won't be our last.

Yelp
This is one of my boyfriend's favorite places, we decided to have dinner, and this was my first time to come here. It looks like a normal liquor shop but they have many selections, it was fun to see different kinds of liquor. I felt as if I was at the liquor museum. lol The cashier at the store was very nice and friendly. There is a space at the back of the store where you can eat and drink. I had a sandwich, South of the Border, and he had Mac N Cheese with lobster. The sandwich had a deep-fried chicken breast, which was very crispy and delicious($15) The Mac N Cheese was very creamy, comfort food($14). I thought the prices were reasonable Maybe it's just fun to have drinks only.... There is a parking next to the store. Dog friendly.

Yelp
Delicious burger. Fries were tasty. I was quite full by the end. It was a little crowded on a Saturday so food took a while and the server was rushing between tables short staffed. Lots of beer to choose from. There are more tables in the side room. The burger didn't come with onion on it so I asked for some, and was a little surprised that I was charged for that but oh well. If I'm ever in the area, I'll likely stop by again.

Yelp
Really good burger and music. The fries, not so good. The service was nice too. Will definitely come back, just order a different side. The fried pickles were good too.

Yelp
While visiting Ojai we stumbled across The Ojai Beverage company restaurant. The locations is right on the main road, and parking is around back and even though it was packed we found a spot in the lot instead of having to park in the street. The restaurant is located inside of store that sells wine, beer, and all kinds of alcohol and spirits is a little restaurant in the way back, that has a wide variety of food options on their menu. The server that took our to go order was very friendly. She made sure that we got plenty of napkins and some utensils with our to go order too. We decided on a burger and salad as the side, and the Q pulled pork sandwich and salad as the side and the bucket of fries. The burger was cooked to a nice medium as requested and was very tasty. The Q pulled pork, mac and cheese, sandwich was delectable and hit the spot. Comfort food at its finest. The Caesar salad for the side was pretty tasty and a decent size portion, plus the dressing was not a heavy dressing at all. The bucket of fries was a very large size. The fries were good, not my favorite style, I prefer more homestyle fries, but they were good. You get to choose 2 dipping sauces and those were great, we chose BBQ and Blue Cheese. Definitely a comfort food spot, the prices were not too bad especially considering the large portions and the great taste.

Yelp
Had the Classic burger. Felt more like a BBQ burger which was great. Highly recommend. Great service as well.

Yelp
Holy cow there is so much to be said about this gem... First off, we *loved* their customer service - we were met by a charming young lady and her dad welcoming us in Dog friendly (even with an energetic 10 mo) ‍ Fast to-go Such a delicious burger! They even had a puppy patty for our pooch. Topa Topa Brewery was too crowded on a Sunday so we grabbed a couple of tall brews for our to-go order. Can't wait to try other items on their menu!

Yelp
Incredible quality to price ratio!! The food is delicious and affordable compared to other Ojai restaurants. The food came quickly and our waitress was super nice. I got the Mac and cheese with lobster and my dad got the ahi salad. Both were delicious!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to hang out with friends and family while getting some delicious food. In my opinion, the fried artichoke and Cubano sandwich were the favorites of the table. Service was great! Only bummer, you can't bring purchased beer/wine into the restaurant. Besides that, I'd be back for sure.

Yelp
I've only been to this place a handful of times because it's an about an hour from where we live but every single time I've gone and taken friends the food has always been fresh and delicious. Our waiter this time was fantastic, younger kid but super friendly. Service was fast. It's casual and unique and will be back again for sure! A must try if you are in Ojai.

Yelp
Food and service is always on point. A small town hole in the wall with a few locals and a great staff! This place is great! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Ambiance: Ojai Beverage Company (OBC) is a beverage focussed restaurant. Their beverage selection is better than BevMo. When you enter the front door you are presented with an array of beverages. Wines, beers, ciders, kombucha and many others are for sale. In the back there is a beer tap bar. An indoor seating area is arranged near the bar. Food is paired with beverages. A large outdoor patio is comfortable. Beer: A rotating selection of award winning draft beers from many national breweries is served. Another large selection of canned and bottled beers is stocked in the fridge. Staff: The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They have a laid-back Ojai vibe.

Yelp
It's an interesting place with it being a liquor store with a small bar in the back and a side room that is a restaurant. We went on a Sunday and they don't turn on TVs which disappointed the men in my group that wanted to watch Sunday football. I had the Q sandwich which was amazing - pulled pork, Mac n cheese and onion string on grilled sourdough. I would come back for that sandwich alone The service was good
google avatar

Tee T.

Yelp
My favorite place to come order a tri tip panini!! Soo amazing and great service hands down!!
google avatar

Jenny H.

Yelp
What a dope space, beverage shop in the front offering you beer, wine and liquor with a wide array of wines. Doze off to the back corner with the bar and food. All their food is delicious. We got artichoke poppers, the Q (a grilled cheese with pulled pork and Mac and cheese) and an arugula beet salad with hidden tri tip - what a nice surprise. We mentioned to Jonathan, our great waiter, that we were splitting everything so they brought us separately portioned plates. Super friendly spot (even for doggies) - I see why they have such great reviews!
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
It was a cool surprise! A beautiful gourmet wine shop and then a restaurant in the back! Delicious food loved the artichokes! We will be back ! Can we have a mushroom burger on the menu please!

Yelp
Surprise, surprise! I hi knew that at the back of what looks like a beer and wine shoppe is a hidden tasty gem of a restaurant! Come on in and try for yourse

Yelp
Food was yummy, Service was good, prices were just right. Would highly recommend, especially if you're just passing through Ojai. Our server recommended a flight of the sour beers and it was delicious. My friend and I had to close out quickly in order to catch a nearby show and he was very accommodating and friendly :) Thanks!

Yelp
Hidden gem! Great atmosphere and service. Placed my order to go, regret not staying! Wings were great strawberry habanero and Thai chili, were delish. The Q sandwich still leaves my mouth watering!! Tequila selection here was

Yelp
The food is excellent and the staff are wonderful! I will be back my next time I'm in Ojai!

Yelp
We came to Ojai as a day date. Anytime i come to this town I've been wanting to try this TapHouse. Walking into this place it looks like a high end wine store. But towards the back is some tables and a cute bar. As soon as I date down I order the Beer sample. The beers on Tap were good. We brought our dog and order a dog patty for him and we shared the ribeye melt and some chicken bites with a salad. The food was superb. I will definitely come back when I am in Ojai.
google avatar

Lauren W.

Yelp
Have you ever been so happy to be wrong?!? Welp, that was me this past weekend! Never in all my years did I think a place named, "Ojai Bev Co" would have amazing salmon and ahi salads! The food was incredible and we're so glad we didn't pass this place up. Everyone was EXTREMELY friendly, too! The cherry on top of our experience. We will definitely stop by this Ojai staple whenever we roll through town. Great for take out or eat in!
google avatar

Yelp
We had an excellent meal at Ojai Beverage company. I'll be honest and say I didn't expect the meal to be as good as it was. However, we were so wrong. The pulled pork sandwich was excellent. One of the best I have had. The classic burger was also very good. Also one of the better burgers I have had. The service was also excellent. Finn was very friendly and chatted with our 3 year old daughter a bit. Overall, it was a great lunch experience in Ojai.
google avatar

Thuat L.

Yelp
When in Ojai, I always make a point to stop here. They have a wide variety of drink selections to choose from. Ordered the Dark Seas Burger, which is a beer battered crab lobster patty on top of a beef patty. Everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I give it a 10/10
google avatar

Yelp
I am updating my review from six years ago. I have to say over the years OBC has continued to provide the same great service and excellent food all at a fair price. During the Thomas fire, they remained open, even offering free food to those needing it. Throughout the Covid pandemic, they provided consistently great, take away, and once they were able to outdoor seating-like most places, the menu was scaled back a bit, but still offered an excellent variety of really delicious items. This is one of the few local spots the entire family can agree upon... And dining here unlike some other places won't break the bank. To be honest, I still avoid indoor dining for the most part, so I continue to use their call in order/to go service. They're always helpful and pleasant on the phone no matter how busy I can tell they are in the background. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu! I love all their salads and burgers and I especially like their grilled chicken sandwich, and the Tri-Tip panini. My eldest loves the lobster mac & cheese and the youngest really likes the Q sandwich-which is barbecued pulled pork with mac & cheese. The main indoor area has sort of a bar like feel about it being near the bar and in the back of the retail shop... They do have an enclosed side porch which has a lot of seating as well- and is a little quieter and lighter than the main area.

Yelp
This place is dank. We were hiking nearby and wanted some hearty food afterwards, and this place hit the spot. I got the pizza port shark bite ale (not sour) and my partner got one of the kombucha drinks. The red ale is your traditional, not sour drink, and the kombucha was nice and fresh. We got the cauliflower tacos and tbh it was not worth it. We immediately regretted not getting the fish. There was nothing wrong with it, but it wasn't good either. Now the burgers were the fantastic. First of all, the red onions in particular were weirdly my highlight. It was fresh and literally my first bite I thought "that's a good onion". The dark seas wasn't too fishy. For having bites of lobster and crab, it just tasted like a good ole patty. The south of the border was bomb. I could not have been happier that I ordered it. No complaints whatsoever. FYI we got the chipotle sauce with our burgers, which was a good combo with the fries.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
After a busy day of moving up to Ojai, we took a lunch break to eat at our first Ojaian restaurant. This place was conveniently located right down the street. We were a bit confused when we walked in because it looks and feels like walking into a liquor store: the first room is an expansive selection of alcohol, but once you get past into the next room you find the kitchen and restaurant area. We were a bit confused on how to get seated and wandered around a bit before asking if we could sit somewhere. At that point the servers were extremely welcoming and kind. The place had a great "local" small town vibe to it which is why I consider we felt out of place and weren't sure where to go immediately. The food was great! I had the pulled pork sandwich with a side salad. The pork was delicious and flavored just enough and not too much with tasty bbq sauce. The coleslaw had the perfect subtle hint of chipotle and the buns were delicious. I could have used a little more meat on the burger though. And I enjoyed the tomato and cheese on it as well which I usually opt out of. The side salad has sun dried tomatoes on it which is unique and I wasn't a huge fan of. But they give you a generous portion so I could take it home for a second meal another day. My husband went for it and had the Cheat Day burger. Immediately he demanded that this placed get 5/5 stars. He got about 3/4 of the way through plus all his fries until he called it quits and brought a the rest home. Over all, the food was delicious, felt fresh and in good portion. I love the local atmosphere and am looking forward to coming back and trying other items. I saw a few salads that caught my eyes walking in...

Yelp
Jonathan was our server and he walked us through the menu. We both ordered flights with so many options on tap to choose from. Jonathan was knowledgeable and helpful with helping up make our selections. The food was good. We ordered the Cubans sandwich. Sorry no picture we are it before we captured the image. If you are in Ojai find this gem. The locals are aware. You walk through the liquor store to get to this epic spot. Great service, great food.
google avatar

Rita M.

Yelp
We usually go to the Nest when in Ojai, but decided to branch out. It was a great decision. We ate in the enclosed patio as the bar area felt like we were in a refrigerator! There was a family there with small children who had too much sugar and were very loud. Guess were getting old. The food was scrumptious. Fish tacos and ahi salad. Both were generous servings with the seafood cooked perfectly. The salad was spicier than I expected but still really good. Hubby was impressed with the beer selection but I settled for ice tea. We browsed through their retail and left with a bottle of local wine and a recommended whiskey. We'll be back.

Jack H.

Yelp
What a great experience...This is the way customers should be treated. The Cubano was great and I loved the artichoke definitely will be back if I didn't have to get home I would've got some beer to go ...what selection. The Pliny on tap while I waited for my food was awesome. Kudos and keep up the the great service

Yelp
Good simple spot. No thrills, but consistent. Ambience is plain. Incredible selection of drinks.

Yelp
What a great bar menu! Their mac and cheese was unexpectedly awesome - the right level of cheesy with a ton of meat added in. Big portions too! We shared a bunch of items as a family and had a really solid American style Sunday lunch.
google avatar

Yelp
Great selection on wine and beer. The food is ok. Dog friendly patio through the restaurant.

Yelp
Mostly a liquor store. If there is food I didn't see it. I might have missed the spot where the food was but walked into a liquor store. No idea if the food is good.

Yelp
One of the best burgers in town. Highly recommend! Nice little bar setting or restaurant seating. A must if you are in Ojai!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by for a bite and a good drink, we sat by the bar and had very attentive service from both our server and bartender. Everyone was super nice here, we felt most welcomed and even though it's a low key place without a big crowd, everyone was having a great time. Onto the food, they're known for burgers and I wasn't blown away but can't say I'd recommend anything else on the menu. Well done fries and we liked the blow your mind/popcorn chicken. Would come back!

Yelp
Been meaning to write a review of this place for a little while now. OMG - this place is amazing!! I'm telling you.... this is one of the best burger places in Ventura County. Their meat is flavorful and their portions are massive!! And... look at how many cherries they added in my Shirley Temple! Finn ended up serving me and his service is absolutely impeccable. I really hope he is treated super well there because I am sure that he is bringing back tons of business! So please... management... please hook him up! He's amazing. You don't want to lose this fella! And please stick around for a long long time. You guys are absolutely legit and... a kickass hidden find!

Don B.

Yelp
We enjoyed this place. It is a little pub restaurant to the rear of a liquor store. Got a table quickly and water for our dogs. Service was acceptable as it was a busy Sunday lunch time. People were nice. The food was good. My burger was cooked right and was tasty. The artichoke appetizer was great. My wife had a salad and said it was just ok. We didn't try the beer that day so can't speak to that. We will go back when in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
It's been maybe 8-9 years since I visited here. I remember the food was good and the appearance was nice. It was a cool place to hang out. I mainly remember my boyfriend and I attempted to drink the 100 beers sampler and that was a bad idea because we couldn't finish it. The sampler would be a good idea for a big group. It was cool that they allow youb to try so many beers!

Yelp
Is this Ojai's best kept secret?! As I was walking my weekend route around Libbey Park, I ventured off and slipped into this local joint. At first glance it appears to be a high-end liquor store with thousands of bottles laid out nicely. Towards the back of the place I discovered a terrific bar/restaurant! To start, the ambiance of the place was very mellow and quiet, once you step in the back it's like being cut off from the retail portion and it was a surprisingly open space. It's almost the perfect combination for lunch time. The service was very helpful all around, from the man in the front who had liquor recommendations, to the staff in the back who assisted me in ordering a sandwich that is on my top 10 list! Now on to the food! I did not know what I was expecting but it is almost as if they took the best qualities of the counties American style cuisine and put them in their meals. I had the Cubano, the strawberry habanero wings, and the fiery choke which is their take on fried artichokes. For someone who eats vegetables like a 5 year old, I could get behind this. The seasoning alone took me aback, it was spicy but not too much with a hint of sweetness, but pairing it with their aioli was fantastic. The wings were unique but lacked a little bit of crispiness, definitely was not as spicy as I thought, yet had an overly sweet and tangy taste. Finally, the piece de resistance, the Cuban which made my top 10 list. It is not very common to taste every individual flavor in a sandwich but this one hit the every note. The braised pork was so tender and melted in your mouth which added a bit of tanginess to the honey cured ham sitting right underneath. Added with roasted garlic & Swiss, it enhanced the savoriness of the sandwich Also beer lovers, they have a lot of great beers on tap and in the cold box :) I will be coming back for more! (keep in mind parking is limited so take a walk and enjoy Ojai)

A go to place! Besides the wonderful food that is served here they have an excellent selection of alcohol, I'm not a connoisseur of much in terms of alcohol but it's always fun to look around. I've always had such great service here & will definitely be a long term customer
