Fantastic lunch today at The Old Butchers - everything was beautifully presented and delicious. Starters were Crab Salad with Brioche, Snails, Scallops with Nduja butter and Stuffed Courgette Flower. Mains were Lobster Mac and Cheese, 1/2 Lobster with Fries, Lobster Ceaser Salad and Hake. Couldn’t fault anything, will definitely be back again. Service very friendly and attentive.

Great food, lovely service and a wonderful vibe. Be prepared for additional service charge as standard. We decided to have 8 small plates betweeen the two of us, 3 drinks and a pudding to share, this came to approx £160 including service fee. Parking is easy: either stow market square or right outside the restaurant. Book in advance as it gets busy really quickly.

Been wanting to eat here for quite some time and it lived up to expectations! Whether you like seafood or steak you can't go wrong, and there's some fun no alcohol cocktails if you're driving. :)

We had an 8:15pm booking which was in the inside/ outside porch bit. We thought we'd be cold but actually it was toasty in there with the heaters on. Great food- especially the blue finn tartare starter and the ox cheek pudding. Absolument delish! A great recommendation.

We came here whilst on holiday with our two Dachshunds and I have to say we were very impressed. I had the scallops to start which were delicious, full of flavour. I then had the Cornish monkfish tandoori, which was also delicious with a great depth of flavour to it and to finish I had the treacle tart which was divine, everything tasted as though it was freshly prepared with fine care and attention. 100% worth a visit….they were also very accommodating with our dogs too.

Yelp
We had lunch then dinner with the Old Butchers. The star for us was the fish chowder, so flavorful and filling. The monkfish was also delicious with great Indian spices. The service is fabulous and the food won't disappoint.

Yelp
Had a very nice experience with quite memorable food, though a couple of service issues could be worked out. Had booked a table online several months ago as part of our Cotswolds trip. Arrived but they had no record of the booking. They easily accommodated us but made it feel like it was our fault (even though they said it happens regularly and we should have called to confirm, ironic given it does not say this on the website). Waitress seemed a little snooty at first, though not sure what we did wrong. Anyway another waitress who was quite pleasant took our order. Started with some good bread served with oil and vinegar. As a starter, could not decide between charcuterie and rock oysters so ordered two oyster and duck roulette. The oysters were good with an interested dip though a little gritty but the duck was awesome. One of the finest starters I have ever had. I heaping plate of tender and flavorful duck. For a main, I had the ox cheek bourguignon. Initially had regretted offering it as there were some great option on the menu but when I had my first bite I was won over. It was fantastic. A huge piece of meat, tender, served with mashed potatoes and green beans. The bourguigon sauce was incredible, rich and delicious, prompting me to eat every bite of mashed potato (I'm normally not a potato guy). For dessert, I had baked alaska. Other than my wife's comments that I had returned to the 1970s, it was a very good rendition. All the other desserts, especially the lemon tart, looked fantastic. The only issue is the lemon did arrive with a fingerprint on it, though the once snooty waitress did quickly replace it. Overall, a wonderful meal.

Yelp
The Cotswalds is like Tuscany in the UK with less traffic and cooler weather. It's one of the most beautiful places on Earth. The British B Roads make for spectacular driving through the picturesque country. We stopped here for a wonderful lunch in this quaint restaurant in Stowe in the Wold. Dover sole, Haddock and lobster, with local beers completed a wonderful day. Walked down Copsr Hill road nearby, touted as the most romantic road in England. It's like a real life Shire, missing only the Hobbits. Recommend reservations for the restaurant as the space is small and I would guess it is very popular in high season.

Yelp
We started with the Charcuterie plate, which was filled with wonderful variety of charcuterie. My husband had the beef tartare with chips, which he says was acceptable, while I had the grilled Cornish lobster and chips. For me, the lobster was okay...a tad overdone, but the flavour was good. For dessert, my husband really enjoyed the chocolate truffles and biscotti and the pain fruit sorbet was the perfect finish for me. All in all, we loved the appetiser and desserts, but the mains were just okay. The service was pretty good overall.

Yelp
Best soup ive ever tasted, Cornish fish soup. The steak and sole were wonderful a well. Good wine list with the house red more than acceptable.

Yelp
Rock solid food. Delicious fish, burger and salad with lovely service. Glad we dropped in. If you decide to eat in the area, there is a large car park not far from the restaurant.

Yelp
Old Butchers serves delicious seafood in beautiful surroundings on the south side of the quaint Cotswolds village of Stow-on-the-Wold. Although perhaps known for its nose-to-tail heritage, Old Butchers has changed its focus to serving Cornish fruits de mer. For lunch, as my appetizer, I had the Oddington courgettes, tomatoes, and Parmesan. The courgette slices were cooked perfectly; for you Americans who might be reading this, courgettes are either zucchini or summer squash, take your pick. As my main course, I had the Cornish fish soup. The stew had a delicious, flavorful bouillabaisse foundation with fish flaked and blended in. It was served with rouille (saffron aioli typically accompanying Provençal bouillabaisse) and long baguette cross-section croutons. The service here was great, and our waiter could answer all questions and fulfill all need. I would definitely come back and recommend this old butcher's shop to any visiting.

Yelp
We love the restaurant. everything we ordered was tasty well presented. the mussels were excellent. This was our third time here for the muscles on a four day vacation in the area. I just had a lovely burger with pork and coleslaw to die for. it's one of the best restaurants we've ever gone to. everything was good.

Yelp
Came here last night. It was packed even though it was a Monday and I was glad that we had booked. It is a small and informal cafe/restaurant with wooden chairs and tables and I was conscious that we were sitting quite close to other diners. The staff are very friendly, helpful and accommodating. We chose a selection of starters and they were all good; although I particularly enjoyed the chorizo and the salami, and the marinated squid salad. We also had duck rillettes, olives and some single Gloucester local cheese which I didn't get to try, but which I was informed was enjoyable. Next a number of us had the hare ragu which went down very well, as did the prawns. I had a fillet of Hereford beef which had a chewy tough texture, although it was cooked appropriately. It was more tender in parts, but overall it was a strange piece of meat. My husband had the same feelings about his fillet. That came with chips and we ordered some broccoli which was fine but the spinach was chopped into squares and cooked with chestnuts; not a winning combination. For pudding the chocolate fondant with ice cream was demolished but I didn't really like my Baked Alaska. I think this was my fault as I didn't realise it had sponge in it, but it was well cooked. It took a long time for the puddings to come and we were informed that there was a problem with the oven, and they took one pudding off the bill without asking. We wouldn't have complained. The wine was excellent. We had a Merlot from Washington State which was amazingly good. I was impressed with the service throughout. Well done guys!

Yelp
Exceptional food & typically you need to book to get in. The lobster is very good but they also serve unusual things such a bone marrow. Great restaurant.

Yelp
Peter and Louise Robinson built the dining room business up at Fox at Oddington, now have left and gone back to Old Butchers in Stow, 2 miles away. You are greeted by a butchers block full of fresh bread and charcuterie board, a fully stocked bar. Slate floors and stone walls with wooden tables to compliment. Both high back comfortable chairs benches with cushions and somewhat lower leather wing back chairs complete the semi rustic feel. The winning formula that made the Fox so popular is continued here. Friendly service, superb English food. Fish Soup with rouille was fresh and delicious. When asked for simple menu changes no issues. Calves liver was cooked perfectly, savoy cabbage accompaniment was delicious. I was torn between so many wonderful choices. Cheese plate was pretty and full of homemade chutney and jellies. Wine list was reasonable with a delicious malbec to compliment the food. Its by far the best option in between Moreton, Stow and Bourton. But book ahead. I was there on a quiet mid week evening in early March and it half full. In the peak tourust season this will be a hot ticket. .
