"Old coastguard’s cottage in a small fishing village, with a laid-back, open-plan interior, a sub-tropical garden and views towards St Clement’s Isle. Well-presented brasserie dishes display a Mediterranean edge; great wine selection. Individually styled bedrooms – some with balconies, most with sea views." - Michelin Inspector

Restaurants with Amazing Outdoor Spaces in the MICHELIN Guide UK & Ireland

"An old coastguard’s cottage which sits in a small fishing village; its lovely terrace and sub-tropical garden have views out towards St Clement’s Isle. Its open-plan interior has recently been redecorated and the well-presented seasonal brasserie dishes display a Mediterranean edge. There are bedrooms too – some with balconies and most with sea views." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

The Old Coastguard, Mousehole, Cornwall, England - Explore & Book

"This is a hotel with soul. Standing watch on the edge of Mousehole, the breezy blue and white building was once a lookout station for the local coastguard. It’s now owned by brothers Charles and Edmund Inkin, the duo behind the nearby Gurnards Head and the Brecon Beacons’ Felin Fach Griffin, who have brought their well-tested formula to this blissful corner of western Cornwall: a laid-back vibe, simple comforts and some seriously good grub. Downstairs is a friendly restaurant, where Cornish meat, delicious veg and straight-from-the-sea treats are served up on delightfully mismatched tables. Dotted around the jumble of floors above are 14 cheery rooms, all stocked with books, blankets and biscuits to help you feel at home. Children are welcome, as are muddy paws and sandy toes, and you’ll often find locals propping up the bar or chatting over Sunday lunch. There’s also a sunny lounge fronted by huge windows that gaze out to sea, and lawns that tumble down towards the water’s edge. Lingering here, watching seagulls wheel overhead and yachts bob about on the waves, is the perfect way to while away the day. If you’re lucky, you might even spot dolphins frolicking in the spray. Highs A wonderful escape in any season - in summer, sip wine under the palm trees; in winter, curl up with the papers and listen to waves crashing over the rocks outsideMousehole itself - a lovely little fishing village on the Penwith Peninsula, packed with galleries, cafés and delisMost rooms have sea views, and some face St Michael’s Mount across the bay. Many have private balconies or terraces, tooSuperb food - nothing fancy or pretentious, just local ingredients cooked exceptionally wellThis is a place for everyone: we saw couples relaxing on the terrace, dogs dozing by the bar, and children toddling around the garden Lows Availability can be a problem in high seasonDon't expect super-stylish interiors; this is more of a cosy coastal restaurant with roomsNo in-room TVs (with views like these, who needs them?), but you do get retro Roberts radios Breakfast is only served until 10amMousehole is extremely popular with tourists in summer, so the roads can get very jammed" - Abi Dare

What a great pub in a stunning location! The outdoor space is the highlight, being able to relax and look out to the calming sea whilst enjoying one of the many drinks on offer. Equally the inside area was cosy and welcoming for when the night draws in. We didn't eat on this occasion but the food looked tasty and would definitely return to try the offering.

I am reviewing the restaurant. The food and wine I ordered was delicious and served promptly. The waitstaff however seemed unprofessional and indifferent. They took orders and then ignored you as someone else delivered the food. Tip is included in the price so there is little incentive to do anything. My server never even came back to ask if I wanted dessert. I did, but i got so tired of waiting (15-20 minutes after my plate was cleared) that I just got up and paid my bill at the bar and left. It’s too bad. The food was really lovely. But the poor service ruined my experience.

What a fabulous find! We were fortunate enough to get a last minute table for two as the restaurant was very busy. From the moment we walked in everyone was so friendly and attentive. Big shout out to Ellie-Mae who made our evening just perfect with her superb customer service and knowledge of the produce on offer. The menu was refreshingly different and showcased local produce. Our food was excellent and beautifully presented. Highly recommend this wonderful restaurant.

The Old Coastguard Inn has a lot going for it. The booking process was smooth, the room itself was of a very high standard, and the views over the Cornish coast were absolutely stunning—exactly what you’d hope for in a place like Mousehole.|However, the service during breakfast and dinner left much to be desired. Staff were often slow and inattentive, and basic touches were missing—like being offered tea or coffee without having to chase someone down each morning. One evening, cleaning materials were left on the chair next to us during dinner, which felt careless and detracted from the overall experience.|It’s a shame, because the setting and accommodation are excellent. With more attention to service, this place could be truly special....and worth the money you spend to stay there.

Ate here one evening during our stay in Sennen, so can't say anything about the rooms, but everything else about it was lovely. The interior is picturesque and stands out from the normal seaside pub aesthetic common in Cornwall. The view out to the sea is amazing, especially from the well-maintained decking. And of course the food was wonderful - nothing overly fancy and not a huge menu but what they do is done very well.

We were delighted when we finally reached our accommodation, after the long Sennen Cove section of the SWCP in Mousehole. After a late start, several wrong turns and a tumble we were about two hours later than anticipated to arrive at The Old Coastguard. |We called ahead to change our dinner reservation but we were still 45 minutes later than anticipated due to an injury after a fall, and we were informed that the kitchen would be closed before we arrived. However, a very sweet and accommodating lady (shout out to Jane!) who I spoke to on the phone arranged with the kitchen staff to plate up two dinners which could be easily heated when we eventually arrived. It was 9:30pm when we finally limped in to the wonderful Old Coastguard. With a warm welcome we were shown to our room, told to take our time and come down to the restaurant where our dinner would be ready and waiting for us when we were ready. |Top marks to the accommodating staff. |Everything there was wonderful. Comfortable room with a large balcony and sea view, pub, dinner and breakfast. |This old inn was the sister hotel to The Gurnard’s Head in Zennor where we stayed two nights previously, and so we assumed it would be as good. We were not mistaken. Well worth a five star rating in my opinion.

Visited the restaurant (we weren't staying at the hotel so can't comment on that aspect) for our evening meal, and it was very enjoyable. Very pretty-looking interior with a lovely view out over the sea if seated outside. Food was delicious - I had the chicken, which was very tender and juicy, and my husband had the battered haddock, which he enjoyed. The only downside is that the menu is quite small but The Old Coastguard is definitely worth a visit and we would eat there again.

Second stay at this hotel.|Excellent room, clean tidy and well appointed though no TV. |Staff are friendly, efficient and helpful.|Great breakfast, excellent evening meals.|Very popular for evenings out, for obvious reasons. Great food and beer garden with clear view out to sea. |Great location, staff and room. |Parking available for guests with two charging bays for electric cars.|Easy walking distance to Mousehole harbour.|Sopping for snacks and sundry supplies is limited within walking distance. There is a regular bus service from outside the hotel into Penzance and other places of interest.

Yelp
Lovely location and a nice place on a summer's afternoon to have a pint outside while the kids play on the lawn. The food is on the expensive side but what you pay for is what you get.

Yelp
We've stayed at the Old Coastguard Hotel over quite a number of years in late December to see the Mousehole Christmas lights and its a combination that really works for us(family of four) The rooms are fine, everything they should be, but the real appeal is the restaurant and the location. The hotel is right by the sea on Mounts Bay and the views are stunning and even at night you can hear the waves. The food is very fresh and modern, beautifully presented with decent veggie choices and of course good for local Newlyn fish. We've even taken photos of the desserts, they were works of art! But tasted good too. The decor of the restaurant is very stlylish and modern. Altogether it's a lovely place to use to visit this wonderful old fishing village.
