"Set in the shadow of the imposing Ripon Cathedral, this 17th-century house is an attractive location for a restaurant with rooms. Start with a drink in the shabby-chic lounge or in the well-kept garden when the weather permits. During the day a simpler lunch menu and afternoon tea are offered, before the evening tasting menu kicks things up a gear. The cooking has a creative make-up, with numerous processes involved, resulting in precise and eye-catching dishes which often incorporate intensely flavoured elements. A classic roast lunch is available on Sundays." - Michelin Inspector

Superb lunch. Melt -in-the-mouth pork and delicious freshly baked bread. Tasted like the fine dining restaurant it is, but a main course and coffee for lunch was £30 per person - not cheap but you might easily pay similar and get much worse. Friendly service. We didn't stay in the hotel.

We recently stayed at The Old Deanery for dinner, bed, and breakfast, and also had the joy of getting married there in June. The venue is absolutely beautiful, with cosy, character-filled rooms and amazing food. Chef Adam Jackson’s menu was delicious and really impressed our guests. Rebecca was fantastic throughout the planning—her clear communication and support made everything so easy and stress-free. The whole team was friendly, professional, and went out of their way to make the day perfect. We’ve had so many lovely comments from our guests about the venue, the food, the staff, and the charm of Ripon. We couldn’t recommend The Old Deanery more for a wedding, a special getaway, or a memorable meal.

Great location though in general has seen better days. Think it's going through a refurbishment phase. Make sure to check wifi if that's important to you. Not the best bed in our room. They boast about the breakfast which is a nice and different experience

Used to be great. Now it's pretentious and for overly ambitious but unimaginative guests. Plenty of A* breakfast places 2 mins walk into Ripon. Who wants deconstructed breakfast?- there's a reason no one else does this and a reason they warn you about it the night before. Great for a quiet night sleep but not much else. Won't be back until after the food experiment is finished.

Amazing hotel and restaurant. A fabulous historic building right next to Ripon Cathedral, steeped in history. Plenty of on sight free parking. A stone's throw from everything to experience in Ripon City Centre. The breakfast is stunning and the food created by Head Chef Adam Jackson is exceptional. There is an extensive wine list. Service is personal, friendly and professional. Dogs are welcomed. The decor is quirky and the building itself has kept its original charm.

First impressions: entrance area shabby, staff friendly, but greeted us with, “And how are we today?” as though we were small children or imbeciles, our room dingy and ill-lit. Pleasant view of the garden, bed comfortable, shower effective, but one mirror was behind the television, the other showed only the top of my head! Perhaps a bit more attention to detail needed. This was room 6 - the others may be much better. The “breakfast banquet”was served in a pleasant room, but there were dead daffodils on the table, as on all the other tables visible. We were presented with only one choice: orange juice or smoothie. Granola was put before us which I explained I do not like, but I was offered no alternative. Tiny pieces of meat, fish and cheese were presented along with half a slice of excellent homemade sourdough and, strangely, pain au chocolat and jam, both to precede the “deconstructed” English breakfast which was meagre, more style than substance. Overall, we found this hotel overpriced and underwhelming. We won’t be staying there again.

Enjoyed our overnight night stay at the old deanery . Hotel is shabby chic , could possibly benefit from some areas inside and out having attention to maintenance. Our room on the first floor had shutters which we had a little difficulty closing ( maybe blinds would be better) this said ,the room was warm comfortable ,shower was good with good power and hot water. The food is certainly the main attraction here . Our evening meal with wine pairing was a culinary journey, prepared with passion flair and superb attention to detail by chef Adam , served by knowledgeable staff who also invested every effort to ensure the experience was perfect . The breakfast was also something different to the usual English tradition, incorporating everything you would expect but with a modern unique style ,we thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and would have no hesitation in returning.

This place is fabulous. Home from home. By far better than your usual hotel. The staff are lovely, ambient music is great and the rooms are lovely. The breakfast is such a treat that it makes the whole stay feel so boutique and spoiling. Will absolutely stay again. Constructive Criticism is that the shower pressure needs to be better in the bathroom. Cannot fault anything else at all xxx

Yelp
Please note they closed in 2021 after the Covid lockdowns and are now only a wedding venue. No restaurant.

Yelp
I've had the pleasure of eating here twice and staying over at the hotel (admittedly whilst drunk!) The food was *superb* - there's a Michelin sign of some kind outside and I suspect it's well deserved. The ingredients, preparation and taste were ace. I like my grub, so you can trust me on that :) My room was also really nice. The building is, as its name suggests, the old deanery for Ripon Cathedral and looks to date back a couple of centuries at least. That means high ceilings, twisted walls and heaps of character with a view of the Cathedral directly opposite. I slept in a room right at the top of the building, sort of an attic kinda space, and it was clean, spacious and very comfortable. In fact, I liked it so much that I took my wife there for lunch on our anniversary.

Yelp
Sheer bliss, sexy, fun, romantic, everything we wanted. We were in Room 2, four-poster bed, slipper bath, molton brown products, fluffy bath towels and robes, view to die for, big old hot radiators, bottle of bubbly waiting for us, old fashioned shutters at the windows, a chaise longue afair to recline on while hubby served aforementioned bubbly. Oh we just can't wait to go back! Everything clean and comfy, big pillows, dream of a mattress, cosy bedding and a fab selection of teas and coffees. And wait til you try the food! OMG. I am dribbling at the memories of the creations the chefs came up with. We stayed two night, bed, breakfast ( mmmm smoked salmon and creamy scrambled egg) and evening meals. Once seated in the comfy bar, kettle chips and olives were served while we tried to decide what to eat, get on the web-site to look at the menus now and you will understand why THAT took so long. We were taken through to the restaurant which is simply designed but lovley, tables far enough apart to have a conversation unheard by the rest of the diners, and presented with a treat from the Chef, first night was titchy little tastes of chicken and pineapple, such a tease for what was to come, the second night was a beetroot and goats cheese concoction which we would NEVER have picked, but was divine. Or food was first class, highest quality, beautifully presented and served. Lastly, let me tell you about the staff. They are great, loved Linda, who must never sleep, and special mention to the new front of house trainee, whose name I can't remember, such a friendly team. We can't wait to go back.
