"The clapboard building that houses the Old Inn on the Green has been around since the mid 18th century, and the dining room looks uncannily frozen in time. The cuisine is classic American with a French slant: pan-roasted halibut, cauliflower soup, pot de crème, all excellent." - Travel + Leisure Editors

"The irresistible Old Inn on the Green has pulled in plenty of travelers along Route 57 since the 18th century. Set amid lush greenery, the inn invites guests to indulge in a rustic dining experience by candlelight. Dine inside on white linen tablecloths surrounded by giant oak beams, or relax outside on the canopied garden terrace. Currently, the restaurant only offers its prix fixe menu at $65 per person." - Emma Van Slyck, Stephanie Gravalese

This is a review for the restaurant only. The ambiance is very cozy. I love the dining by candlelight and fireplace concept. Service was good. The food was ok, but not amazing - especially at the price. The mushroom soup had a lovely texture but was under seasoned . The chicken and beef were fine as were the desserts. Certain components lacked some flavor. I'd recommend going at least once for the experience. I give it 3.5 stars.

Google
Reviewing the restaurant, not the inn. Food is amazing. Apps, mains, dessert, cocktails - all so very good. Service was the definition of professional and comfortable. Really friendly but attentive and on point. The space is unique with candlelight only in the dining rooms. Very romantic. My wife and I have dined here a number of times and every time is phenomenal.

Our stays have always been enjoyable, for the most part, and dinners are always superior... also, the rooms are historic and furnished with antiques, some of which can be comfy. Water pressure in the shower was too low, and this particular bed was very firm. Christmas Lighting outside was beautiful, and room 201 is spacious. It also has its own parking space conveniently near the back entrance with a view of the pool area and nearby wooded areas as well

This little haven of beauty, is the perfect getaway from the city. The inn, built in the 1700’s has all the character and charm you’d expect, with incredible food and warm hospitality. Rooms have giant beds, big bathtubs, wood burning fireplaces and wide planked wooden floors. Peter and Meredith are delightful, and dinner is a multi course treat. This is our favorite place to run away to, and satisfies all the cozy expectations.

A gastronomic delight and a wonderful experience. Attention to detail in every respect. Matthew was a wonderful server and never rushed us to order. The food was so well prepared with interesting and unusual pairings and served hot. Romantic candlelight ambience. We were a party of four and could have conversations that were heard. We went on a rainy night and called ahead to inquire about a handicap entrance. Most obliging and told us to come in the ramp near the kitchen. We had been here pre Covid and wanted to come back. We drove an hour because we remembered how special and delicious the meal and the evening were. Old Inn on the Green never disappoints..it only invites and treats. Well worth the money!

Google
One of the most excellent dining experiences we've had. We were there on a rainy Saturday night as guests of dear friends, and it was a lovely visit with them. The drive thought the quiet, lush countryside helped make it an extraordinary evening. Thank you to the extremely courteous staff who were attentive but didn't rush us. Thank you, Matthew. Unbelievably delicious dinner, artistically presented, with many extra courses. Charming candlelight ambiance. Quiet so that we could talk during dinner. One special treat was a HOT coffee cup! Not only the coffee, but the cup was hot. Hot bread, too, brought up from Tribecca in NYC. The meal was perfect from the beginning to the end. What a wonderful evening. It's rare to have such an amazing dinner with fabulous service The chefs and staff get 5 stars from us. Thank you to everyone at The Inn on the Green for offering a delightful evening in every way. (However, a grown up potty would be nice! Ha.)

Been coming to this place for a few years now—restaurant is always a delight. The coziest, warmest atmosphere, great service and exceptional food. The cheese dessert course is sex on a plate.

Google
We came for dinner at the restaurant, which was simply exquisite! The dining room is lit by candlelight and by the fireplace. Our waiter was extremely attentive, anticipating our every need before us, even realizing it! One person in our party was gluten-free, and basically, the entire menu (minus dessert, but there were 2 gluten-free options) could be made gluten-free! I only wish they also had gluten free bread service to make everything equal to non-gouten free service. I highly recommend the risotto, steak, and key like dessert; I will be dreaming of this meal for a while!

Yelp
Stop by the old inn with your horse-drawn carriage Or host the grand celebration of your marriage In this haunted candlelit home Where ancient settlers' souls still roam Sip a Negroni or ginger cocktail With waitstaff whose service never fails Caviar bespeckled amuse bouches With moneyed bankers who might be douches But mostly kind and classy country folk Who in claw footed bathtubs enjoy a soak The duo of beef or lobster kissed campanelle Burrata salad or halibut quenelles You can't go wrong with all the dishes At this New England dream home for Berkshire witches.

Yelp
My parents took my grandma out to The Old Inn On the Green for her birthday and I was blessed to be able to celebrate with her. I was amazed at how beautiful the restaurant was and it used to be a house. It used to be a stable and then someone purchased it as their home. I learned that many years later the restaurant owners bought the property. The exterior was gorgeous, and the inside was beautiful too. The meal started off with a pre-amuse-bouche, sliced cucumbers with creme fraiche, and caviar. The pre-amuse bouche also included a date slice that had goat cheese and crushed nuts. For the amuse-bouche, we were given two very large white beans with a delicious green sauce and a red sprout. For the appetizer, I ordered the Caesar Salad and lobster pasta that I split with my mom. For the main course, I ordered the steak and short ribs. I then ordered the sorbet with mint tea. To say that the food was perfect would be an understatement. The lobster pasta was creamy and filling. The Caesar Salad was made just the way I like it. The salad dressing was also creamy and the anchovies were salty and delicious. I also loved the short ribs and steak. The steak was juicy and rare and the short ribs weren't on the bone but if they were they would have fallen right off. I really enjoyed the meal, the atmosphere, the kindness of our servers, and how beautiful the restaurant was. Parking was also easy. I'm glad that I got to experience dinner at The Old Inn.

Yelp
Excellent spot. The dining rooms are enchanting with the candlelight. The staff are exceptionally kind!

Yelp
This is definitely a gem of a find in the middle of these small towns! The restaurant is sort of in the middle of now where but well worth the drive over. It looks like a previous house that was converted into a restaurant. The staff were very nice, attentive, and treated all the guests like they were the most important people. Our waiter, in particular, was very professional and made sure to check on his in a reasonable amount. The food was incredible. Truly what a delight. Be forewarned, it is a pre-fixe, but you do have choices. There are 4-5 choices for appetizer, entree, and dessert. At the time of writing this the pre-fixe is $75 but it is well worth it. The ingredients tasted fresh and wonderful. The sauces were well prepared and flavorful. The entrees were a very decent size as well. Specifically, I had the soup as the appetizer, the salmon as my entree, and the apple tart as my dessert. I enjoyed every mouthful! They also provided bread (unheard of after COVID!) and two amouse-bouches! With the check, they give a small little after dinner cookie to eat. The cocktail was nice, the ambiance was wonderful (candlelight!). It was such a great experience and likely the BEST restaurant with in a 20 mile radius. This is definitely a MUST TRY!

Yelp
We had dinner right after eloping to the Berkshires and getting married at the Devonfield. The staff and guests alike were all very kind and practically tripping over each other to tell us congratulations. The meal was fantastic, a full-service 3-course-meal with dessert. The ambiance and decor were incredible. This is a great spot to celebrate major life events.

Bob W.

Yelp
Food this thanksgiving was so delicious The atmosphere and staff made it a wonderful holiday experience

Michelle A.

Yelp
Eating by candlelight is memorable for 21st century eyes in need of stronger illumination. Cuisine is local to the area rather than ethnic. Since the three course menu at $75 is nonnegotiable, there is an amuse bouche -- a dollop of trout on a cucumber slice is tasty albeit not requiring top chef skills. The cod and salmon were well cooked, but sadly paired with wooden peas and overcooked baby carrots. Dessert of brownie with ice cream was pedestrian, and the panna cotta was straight out of the fridge. For those seeking to celebrate, this seems to be the only game in town.

Yelp
A wonderful dinner in a special setting. Just right for an occasion. I look forward to finding a next reason to go there.

Bernard H.

Yelp
This place is truly special! Delicious thoughtful food. Crazy beautiful setting. Personal service. Beautiful village. Worth a trip for a classic New England experience you won't forget!!!

David W.

Yelp
Absolutely inter generationally beautiful! Everyone in our family loved the food, the Manhattans, and the fantastic service! The environment is dreamy candlelight transforming us into a slower time to savor each course!

Trace V.

Yelp
Our favorite restaurant in The Berkshires -- a special occasion place lit only by candlelight in a building from the late 1700s! Wait staff very attentive and remember us from last year. Best deal is their $46.00 3 course prix-fix on Sunday nights. Our party of 7 tried lots of good food: Pan Roasted Maine Halibut -- fabulous would get this again 10/10 Steak Frites - a bit hard to cut (better steak knives needed!) 8/10 Chicken Breast - moist, tender and pre-sliced 9/10 Pasta Verda for the veggies out there -- 9/10 The Cardamom Panna Cotta for desert was a nice surprise -- as I've never had it before and wouldn't have ordered it if it hadn't come with the pre-fix. 9/10 Go for the experience and enjoy the wonderful food in an old house with many rooms.

Michele S.

Yelp
Anniversary dinner did not disappoint. Though a bit chilly under the tent (no heaters), the service and food were phenomenal as were the drinks. The night we went there was a $55 prix fixe menu and I was lucky that they had a vegetarian option. Everything was delicious and the waitstaff was really attentive and pleasant.

Jack N.

Yelp
This is for the restaurant. The food was terrific. Every dish that we had cooked superbly and with care. Dinner, there's an experience and one that will create the most memorable occasion.

Jared S.

Yelp
We had such a special time here. The food is epic, and I mean EPIC!!! Prices are high, but the food is totally worth it. If you're in the Berkshires, you MUST eat here. Oh, the ambience of the old inn is so charming.

Robert K.

Yelp
This was not only by far the BEST restaurant in the Berkshires, but this was one of the best meals I have had in a very long time. I come from Manhattan and The Old Inn on the Green would rival and compete with the top restaurants in the city. The food was outstanding and the service is some of the best I have ever had. Ambiance of white table cloths and candlelight was beautiful too. I have been to more than a few Michelin rated restaurants and this blew them away. I am not sure what you need to do to get a rating but they should have one if they don't already. As for what our family of 4 had - For appetizers 2 people had the tomato coconut soup, one had the lobster pasta and one had the burrata. I didn't have the burrata but I did have the soup and tasted the pasta. Wow. For the main course, 2 people had the halibut, one had the salmon, one had the lobster pasta. Again, wow. For dessert, 2 people had the chocolate bread pudding, 2 had the pans cotta and yes, one more wow. The menus is a 3 course pre fixe. We came here for a special occasion (daughter's high school graduation) and I am so glad we did. If you want a romantic evening or want to celebrate a special occasion or you just want to be treated exceptionally well, this is the place to go: Make you reservation well in advance.

Roger M.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. It is extremely romantic and the dinner is amazingly good. Someday I will stay here and try the breakfast as well. We ate outside in the summer in the screened porch for our anniversary. We could not have picked a better spot. The amuse bouche was incredible and set the right tone. I urge you to start your dinner with the Butter-Poached Main Lobster with Roasted Scallop with brown butter vinaigrette. Oh my heavens, was that good. If there was nothing else on the menu, the dinner would have already earned for stars. But, it got better. The halibut was the best halibut I have ever eaten. The crispy skin salmon was sublime. I have salmon on a regular basis and know when it was perfectly cooked. This was it. I was amazed by the delicious flourless chocolate torte for dessert. I try to limit my desserts but icould not stop eating it. In addition, I need to give a shout out to our server. When I asked for a wine, he asked about my preferences and what we were ordering. Then, he directed me to a reasonably priced bottle. I often find servers direct me to something fairly expensive. He got points from me for being honest and helpful. The price is reasonable for what you get, but the restaurant is not inexpensive. I cannot recommend it more highly.

Julie P.

Yelp
Delightful dinner - great service by Matthew and delicious food & wine! Loved the veal cheek!

Robert H.

Yelp
Be sure to have GPS in your vehicle otherwise you will drive right by. Food and ambiance were fantastic. Worth the trip

Richard V.

Yelp
Superb, great food, great service, fair prices. Everything an old New England Inn should be.

Yan T.

Yelp
Lovely meal at this memorable Berkshires hideaway. The Old Inn on the Green is the type of place you'd love seek refuge driving on a wintry New England road, getting caught in a storm. We drove up with my wife and her family and were greeted by a droll and amusing waiter in a private room with a fireplace. The dark grey tones created a spectral feel, and the snap, crackle, and pop of the fire was transporting. It was the kind of room one should read old Irish poetry. The menu is classically American, with seasonal ingredients and dishes created by a renowned chef. While the prices are not for the timid of wallet, there is a set menu that's quite reasonable and a great price-to-quality value. We went mostly a la carte. I started with a risotto appetizer that was lip-smacking good, and a breast of duck that was equally delicious. An extensive wine list sits alongside local Massachusetts and New England craft beers. Visit the bathroom upstairs, and you'll feel the temperature dip as you ascend one flight. A ghost, perhaps?

Matthew H.

Yelp
Outstanding. My wife and I had dinner here for our anniversary, and we were delighted with the exceptional service and gourmet excellence of the food. The building is picturesque and the 100% candlelight dining experience is unique. Appropriately priced given such great service in a beautiful place. We'll be back for sure!

Andrew W.

Yelp
My wife and I had a wonderful dinner on October 7, 2021. We were greeted and seated promptly and courteously. It is a very old inn and the indoor rooms are lit only by candles which we enjoyed. The dining room was not very busy at 6 PM on a weeknight, but filled up as the evening progressed. The menu is a three course prix fix at this time, with a supplement for some choices. We were given two amuse bouches before our appetizers which were quite good. Our main courses were crispy skin Faroe Island salmon and roasted beef sirloin, both of which were tasty and delicious. There were several vegetables with the beef and each one tasted as if it had been prepared differently than the others. The desserts were excellent, both the bread pudding and the apple tart. The service was professional and attentive.

Jake B.

Yelp
Here the customer is never right. Arrogant and rude owners. While the ambiance and food is nice, it was overshadowed by the lack of respect and poor service. We were blamed for the host's mishap with our reservation, and essentially told we should 'just deal with it'. The feeling was we should be so lucky to eat there. Understand the hardship of running a restaurant during COVID, but expect to be treated with some decency. Plenty of warmer and friendlier places to eat in the Berkshires.

Art F.

Yelp
We have stayed twice in winter and once in summer. The restaurant is worth a special trip in itself. But we like the full experience of staying overnight, enjoying the Berkshires, and walking downstairs to dinner. Just wishing that breakfast served at the Inn returns. Best omelet I ever ate.

Mary A.

Yelp
We celebrated a friend's retirement at the Old Inn On The Green tonight. Everything was excellent! The menu had a lot to offer, and everyone in our party was very pleased with each of their three courses. Our waiters were extremely attentive, and knowledgeable. It was a special evening, and The Old Inn on the Green was the perfect choice for such an occasion. I look forward to returning. In this day and age of staffing and food shortages there was not a hint of anything missing.

R. K.

Yelp
The Old Inn On the Green is way out in the distance. Eighteen miles from towns one way - nine miles from towns the other way (one lane - each way - road). Traveling to the Inn for the first time you may wonder if you've made a wrong turn. Stay on Rte. 183 and you'll eventually get there. Built in 1760 - The Old Inn does show it's age old charm as certain areas are being refurbished. We stayed in Room 195. A spacious comfortable country style setting facing the front of the Inn - you can view all the details on the website. Upon entering we were more than pleased with the size. First impression on the bed - very high and hard - created concern. However we had two wonderful restful nights - no worries (nights are quiet here). Bathroom is also comfortably large - shower pressure is a bit weak. Mornings are wonderful here. You call down to Pete and a strong pot of fresh coffee awaits you for your room. You then enter the dining area where a buffet of fresh fruit & berries awaits. The fresh squeezed orange juice is the best I've tasted. What then follows - a wonderful selection of fresh hot buns, assorted pastries and croissants straight out of the oven. Again - The best I've tasted anywhere. Our dinner here was also a unique event. The restaurant offers dinner by candlelight only which truly works. As for the food - for the most part - excellent. For appetizers we chose the Butter-Poached Main Lobster with Roasted Scallop. With brown butter vinaigrette this was a tasteful starter. However the Lobster Carnaroli Risotto was disappointingly dry. Something was missing here. Both our main courses were true winners. The Pan Roasted Filet of Maine Halibut was my best halibut dish in quite some time. With sweet peas, potato gnocchi over a saffron sauce we couldn't help but smile after each bite. The Crispy Skin Filet of Salmon with a roasted red pepper sauce was loaded with flavor. We finished with a fine three cheese dessert selection (suggestion - crackers over bread) over two glasses of Pinot Noir. All in all a most comfortable stay. Just be prepared to drive while keeping the gas tank filled.

Yelp
We've had marvelous meals here in the past. Yesterday's (Thanksgiving) was actually a nightmare. It began when the hostess claimed not to find our reservation. I had RSVP'd to their text confirming our reservation a week earlier, but had left my phone in the car, which a family member then retrieved. As I was looking for the confirmation, we were led out of the restaurant (literally outside) to a back tented area that had one sole table in a corner. The view? Tent siding and upside down tables 6 feet away. There were no other diners to be seen. It was a chilly afternoon, and they had basically sat us outside. Granted, we were in a tent, but there was no heating. It's basically winter here. Let me repeat. No heating. I was with my 90 year old mom, my brother, and guests from Boston. The woman who sat us (I guess the manager that afternoon?) was flummoxed (and then defensive) when I announced that I was deeply unhappy. She couldn't understand what my problem was. I told her that, given the fact that I had made reservations a while ago, and had recently confirmed, being shuffled off to an outside makeshift table was the not the experience I had expected (at $90 a plate). I was sitting there, searching through my phone to find my confirmation and wondering where I could buy a turkey to take home and cook, when the flummoxed woman returned to tell me that they had "suddenly found my reservation". We were then led to our table inside. There were no apologies for the 20 minutes of pure frustration and true aggravation. In fact, when the manager came in about 30 minutes later, she went straight to another table to help the waiter set it, and not once came over to apologize for their oversight. She didn't say one word. We owned an inn for years, and have bent over backwards for any mistakes on our end. Instead, we were made to feel that we were lucky that we were seated inside. Then came the meal. The turkey was delicious, but the rest of the meal was (literally) lukewarm. It felt like a plate at the end of an assembly line, to be expected, I guess, but still? This restaurant, with its prices, raises expectations. Ours were dashed yesterday. We were treated miserably and then fed a so-so dinner. Time for a new chef, a new hostess (who can read), and a new manager.

Yelp
On a warm, summer evening--en route from Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival to the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival--I stopped at the lovely Old Inn on the Green. I ordered from the Saturday Prix Fixe menu-- starting with the exceptional Warm Vermont Bijou Chèvre on Toasted Brioche, followed by the Grilled Beef Tenderloin, and the Lemon Creme Tartlet (a cloud from heaven) for dessert--all for an extremely reasonable $78. As they've preserved the Inn's many historic qualities, there's no electric lighting in the dining room--it's entirely candlelit--adding to the cozy ambiance. My server Ian was knowledgable, efficient, and attentive, and ensured my dining experience was exceptional.

Candace H.

Yelp
I was in need of a place to stay as I was attending a wedding in nearby Norfolk, Connecticut. The Old Inn on the Green had great reviews so I decided to check it out. We arrived around 5pm on a Saturday evening. Upon arrival we walked into the main house; however there was no one there to greet us. So we were slightly confused and worried we weren't in the right place. Eventually someone came downstairs to help us out. He gave us the keys to our room and informed us of the hours of breakfast in the morning. We stayed in room 191. The room has a queen sized bed and a twin bed. The queen sized bed was incredibly comfortable! The kind of comfortable you never forget and wish your bed at home was that comfortable. The linens were soft and clean. This room has a shower which is important as I know some of the rooms only have tubs. The bathroom was immaculate. The only con about the room was that there was no iron but no biggie. The breakfast the next morning was delicious. It consisted of fresh fruit, pastries, juice, and coffee. We didn't get a chance to have dinner here but several people told us about how good it is and that the dining room is lit by only candle light. Overall, I'd definitely stay at the Old Inn On the Green again. Customer service wasn't overly friendly but they did get the job done. I would recommend it to anyone looking for accommodations in the area.

Paul V.

Yelp
We have eaten here multiple times always fantastic. Price fix menu during pandemic is perfect. Very friendly service great drinks. Had the beef dish and chicken both yummy. Wedge salad and risotto very good but don't skip the bread pudding to die for. Will return. Go there for a special occasion and enjoy a candle lit dinner.

Cassie B.

Yelp
Haven't written a yelp review in ages, but this place is beyond worth coming out of yelp retirement! Visited in February 2017 after finding a deal which included a room for two nights, a dinner for 2, and lunch for 2. Booking was a breeze, and we got to select the room we liked, out of many fantastic choices. We went with 203, with its large jacuzzi and cozy fireplace (with accompanying wood)! Dinner was amazing, and the staff was very accommodating to our request. We were so blown away by the food, we actually returned the next night to dine. Which for us is unheard of, as variety is the spice of life for us! Breakfast in the morning consisted of fresh fruit, yogurt and granola along with a heavenly basked of warm freshly baked pastries. Lunch from the Southfield Store down the road was also plentiful, fresh and amazingly flavorful. Only minor snaffu was having to wait a little long for an ice bucket, and call back to remind we were still waiting. But we are also the impatient types, so that could be on us...=) Loved the experience of the Inn so much we booked a return trip for Dec 2017 to celebrate my husband birthday! Can't wait

Dave F.

Yelp
What a great place. Food and ambiance was incredible. Robert and Meredith are the best. James picked out a great wine for us.

Steve B.

Yelp
this review is for the restaurant which turned out to be amazing. From the service to the food to the wine, we were highly impressed. We enjoyed the full tasting menu with wine pairing and each dish and the accompanying wine nailed it. Some of the best Lamb Chops ever paired with the Chateau Pailhas Bordeaux was perfect. We think this is not just the very best restaurant in the Berkshires but one of the top in the region and a destination in it self!

Jay B.

Yelp
My honey and I are repeat offenders coming now for four years and have three seasons down, one to go. Peter and Meredith our wonderful hosts, always accommodating. Rooms are beautiful and the location serene. There's a wonderful hike right up the road to enjoy after breakfast or before Peters incredible dinner! We recommend the Inn highly.

Ken D.

Yelp
Well, this is a sad update to write about a place that has seldom let me down. The 2-star review is based upon our dining experience this Saturday night when taking my Mother out for a birthday dinner. While the service and ambiance were intact, one very surprising thing stood out as worthy of two stars: The menu offered diners two (and only two) options: a $95/person tasting menu and a $75/person prix fixe. There were no a la carte options available. So, my wallet took the hit and I expected a worthy experience in return. However, sending my tenderloin back for arriving overcooked was not...as they say...on the menu. I've dined around the world and have never seen such a menu choice in a restaurant. It was as if we were given the 'For Tourists Only' menu. Given that we live down the street, we felt slapped and actually disrespected. If we had known this was the structure of the menu these days, we could have chosen to go or not. However, the surprise stung.

David F.

Yelp
I had dinner at this Inn and absolutely loved it. The entire dining area is just candlelight. They also had a really cozy fire in the fireplace going. Definitely a place you'll need to check out while in the Berkshires. I had the Steak Frites and it was delicious. They also have a HUGE wine, spirits and beer list. No shortage of options. The only downside is that it's kind of out of the way. Definitely worth the drive!

Will A.

Yelp
A candlelit dinner in a charming venue - I hardly need to say more. But I'd be remiss not to mention the quality of the food: our steak was seared to perfection, and if it were possible I would have taken an entire sheet of their flourless chocolate torte to go.

Bob B.

Yelp
Arrived to empty Inn, Three dead mice and a bird floating in putrid pool water Nice wine list but had mishap with wine service, food ok, looked much better than it tasted, reminded me of New York in the 80's Service uneven and they add service charge, staff seemed frazzled Host sat three parties that walked in after we had arrived, not sure why, he seemed to be annoyed No one on staff smiled much, not sure why,

Jim Z.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. One of the best meals you can have dining out. Wonderful venue. It's like stepping back in time. The dining rooms are lit with candles only. The service was very professional. The only thing keeping my review to 4 stars, was that when we arrived for our reservation, the table wasn't ready and the hostess directed us to the bar area to wait. Here we were completely ignored by the bartender, even though we were standing at the bar. One waitress was constantly bumping into us and muttering about how overworked she was and how management should hire more people. Once we were seated though, the magic of the kitchen and our Waiter began.

Nancy C.

Yelp
Review just for dinner. My sister and I both got the tasting menu, enabling us to taste the whole thing (there are two options for most courses.) It started off great, but got steadily more boring. Also, I think they must have been short staffed- we had 6 pm reservations, and the food was coming out steadily until about 7:30, at which point the dining room filled up, and there was suddenly a ten min gap between plates being cleared and the next course being brought out. Ironically, this was when we switched from stuff that takes time to cook to stuff like...the cheese course. They also forgot to bring out the last wine pairing with the thing it was paired with. The whole thing took 3 hours and 20 min, and by the end of it, we were looking at our watches. Highlights: beef, lamb, duck (I don't even usually like duck, it was so good!) foie gras, the mushroom appetizer, the flourless chocolate cake. The wine pairing was good, and generous. Disappointments- the salmon and the cod were both boring. The rhubarb and strawberry tart was more puff pastry than fruit. The ice cream in the affogato was alright, but seemed off texturally- a little ice crystally, not creamy. That, and it and the bland strawberry chocolate that came with the check were just an anti-climactic end to a meal that started off great. I'm not sad we went, there was some stand out food. And while it wasn't cheap, it was reasonable for a tasting menu. But if I return, I'd just get meat- no seafood, no desserts.

Yelp
The Old Inn is considered one the Berkshire's premiere culinary gems . Our dinner last night was no exception. Every morsel brought to the table was absolute perfection. Every person at our table of six was quite satisfied with their meals. It was the service that mysteriously was not at all on par with the food. The service while "professional" was down right hostile, impersonal and lacked any warmth or vitality. Upon entering the host met us with a perfunctory greeting that was void of smiles or pleasantries. It was absolutely gruff, and we were promptly sat . We might have been the first to arrive which made our table by the kitchen door a curious choice. Nobody minded because we knew the culinary feast that awaited. On the waiters first approach to our table smiles greetings were again noticeably absent. When one of our party lifted his water glass to spare the waiters reach he was scornfully told "you may leave that right where it is. " We all immediately took note that our waiter was not a happy camper . This captured the tone of our service experience. Canapés had been brought to the table and were quite delicious. After a time, our waiter reappeared bellowing " are you ready to order " . He had not even offered drinks yet . We politely said we'd place a drink order and contemplate our choices further. Oddly we were told nothing about the menu and its many options i.e. Tasting menu, pris fix etc. Later we would here our waiter go on in good detail about menu offerings to a another dining party. The waiter remained stoic and stoned faced throughout the service. He never smiled , there were no "pardon my reach " or " your welcome" in response " to our constant stream of "thank yous" when items were brought to table. His lack of mere politeness and plain hospitality was extremely off putting and colored our entire experience. I can understand having a bad day I can't understand making your customers pay for It. His mood was further highlighted and contrasted by the smiling pleasantness of the bus and food runner staff. A second encounter with the host while one of us sought the restroom was again gruff and void of any semblance of hospitality. Quite inexplicably the waiter graced our table with complimentary dessert . Did he suddenly realize how sour he was being? If so it was also not presented with any graciousness. It was delicious nonetheless. Perhaps one of our dinner companions said it best , "I just don't feel welcome or comfortable here " . Sad that a top rate dinning experience would be so sullied by the personality of its service.

Yelp
Very good food. Top notch. Service was excellent. There is nothing bad to say about this place. We loved the fries with green sauce.

Yelp
Came here with a group of girlfriends for a very nice and delicious dinner. It was a special treat to a dear friend, who is also a chef. The Old Inn on the Green did not disappoint. The ambiance was spectacular. The rooms are lit by candlelight. (A little distracting at first but you get used to it). The waitstaff was excellent - so knowledgeable and accommodating. They answered our many questions on food, pairings and prep. And the food was spectacular. Had it been appropriate I would have taken pictures of every dish! The food was non-stop. Yes, it is pricey so be prepared but the food was plentiful. This is definitely the place to take someone special, to celebrate an achievement or just to impress. Everything was delicious.

Yelp
Truly the greatest food and atmosphere. Quaint, gourmet, and stellar service. An incredible wine list accompanies an exceptional meal that rivals any Michelin rated establishment. Truly a gem in the middle of the Berkshires that, while hard to find, is worth the trip in every sense. Great staff and accommodations as well!

Yelp
Every now and then, city mice need to leave the confines of their concrete world and join their brethren in the country, where cell phone service exists only in fleeting moments and you can actually see the stars. And they should do this by visiting The Berkshires. Specifically, Old Inn on The Green in New Marlborough. Set a bit apart from the tourist attractions, but still near the charm of The Berkshires, Old Inn is a former 18th-century stage coach house currently channeling the ease and pace of the era of it's construction--the prime atmosphere for escaping from the usual honking and bustling of traffic and the crowded city sidewalks. The main house has it's original flooring, several guest rooms and a dining room lit only by candlelight. The Thayer house, located next to the Old Inn, features gorgeous common areas and more guest rooms. We opted for the Thayer House, a recommendation on the proprietor's part, on account of greater privacy and less noise (no children were staying there and it was located away from the main dining room). Our room in the Thayer House was not only spacious, but well-appointed, from the sitting area and comfy bed, to the working fireplace (which we used, and it was glorious), to the bathroom featuring a separate room with a deep jacuzzi tub. Plenty of natural light streamed into the room during the day, while the quiet at night was scary at first, relaxing once you got used to it. For the night we arrived (Saturday) we made dinner reservations for the dining room at 8:30pm. Greeted by the host and seated immediately at a large table in the center of the room, the ambiance was romantic like no other restaurant--no electricity, only candlelight and the murmurs of other couples around us enjoying their meals and company. Our waiter was impeccable throughout the 7-course Chef's Tasting, which, on that evening, featured Red Beet Tarte Tatin, Saffron Pea Risotto, Butter-Poached Lobster & Scallops, Veal Sweetbreads, Roast Rack of Colorado Lamb, Great Hill Blue Cheese Course, Chocolate Caramel Tart. Everything, literally everything, from the pace of the meal, to the flavors and cooking temperatures, right down to the wine pairings (perfect choices for every dish--crisp Brut champagne, sweet Spätlese Riesling, clean Chardonnay and bold Pinots)--there is not one comment I have on the meal that would remotely indicate disappointment. One note: the wine supplement is $80, but the pours are extremely generous and the waiter constantly offered to let us try other wines (in addition to the pairings), as well as offered to pour more of any specific wine we desired. After dinner, we enjoyed some french-press coffee, made with locally roasted beans and retired to our room where we lit a fire. From our arrival to the moment we left, Meredith, one of the proprietors, was a gracious hostess. She welcomed us and showed us to our room and gave us a brief lesson on how to work the fireplace and a bit of info about dinner reservations. She also helped us find a spa for massages and gave us directions to the various places we wanted to visit the next day. Even the check out process was simple and relaxing. An overnight trip to the Old Inn is the perfect little getaway--nestled just far away from Boston and NYC to feel like a real vacation, but close enough to take just a weekend to recharge.

Yelp
Just 3.5 hours from NYC for the best meal of your life. This little farm house which has been transformed into a restaurant is spectacular, worth 50 stars in my book . I make an annual pilgramage out here just for the food. The dining rooms have no electricity. WHAT WHAT? Yes, the entire place is lit by candelight. I think just that fact makes the food taste so much better. Don't mess around with ordering ala carte. Get the tasting menu. It changes seasonaly as do the wine pairings. Make sure you go with at least one other person who is willing to eat anything because some of the menu items are a little adventurous. The sommlier has been there for at least the last 4 years. He's incredibly knowledgable and if you engage him a little, he'll likely fill your glass a little more, or share with you some of his secret stash. The chef, whom I've not met must have OCD. The plating is spectacular and the food, well the food is orgasmic. Not joking. Sometimes I don't want to chew, I just want to let the flavors sit on my tongue. It will do no good to write of the items I have had here as they will not be there when you get there. This place is in the middle of know where. The closest real town to stay in is Great Barrington, where you'll have a 30 minute drive to the Old Inn, or you can do what I do and stay at the Gedney Farm. Either of their locations are also 50 star worthy.

Yelp
Most amazing (less than) 24 hours of my life - yes, we were the youngest people enjoying everything this property had to offer and one might think that we're not experienced enough to have exquisite taste. On the contrary, I assure you we are. I am a lucky girl to have been given this gift of a getaway for Christmas - a day of skiing at Butternut and then we were off to the Inn. Upon check-in - which was a bit confusing at first, we were smitten by the charming main house and led to our amazing room on the second floor of the other building. I asked for an ice bucket for our bubbly and promptly received one and some flutes - perfect for enjoying the oversized claw foot tub (which we did for an hour!) and drying off in front of the lovely in-room wood burning fireplace. The room itself was just romantic and rustic and all sorts of wonderful. Then came time for dinner - first off, the fact that everything is lit by candlelight seemed daunting at first but once we saw and experienced it - I don't know how we dine otherwise! First off - we are huge bread and butter people and made the tremendous mistake of partaking in way too much of that home-made crusty goodness and delectable Vermont butter. The amuse bouche of homemade sausage and salmon tartare were fantastic as was the extra soup starter and then began the meal that almost killed my boyfriend (in terms of portions and alcohol) ... He has never had a wine pairing with a meal before and I have to say for a 6-8 course meal the portion sizes were quite larger than I expected and am used to. Not that this is a bad thing but that huge hunk of foie gras that he insisted on finishing almost throttled his gall bladder later on! Regardless - the roasted beet tart tatin was incredible, paired so well with that herbed chevre that added a great saltiness to the sweet beet and a delicate crust - mmmm. Set the tone for the rest of the meal. Next was lobster, saffron & sweet pea risotto - hearty, perfect texture, and that infamous foie gras w/mushroom ragout - decadence. Crispy veal sweetbreads with foie & garlic flan and carrot sauce - not too chewy and butter-poached lobster with pan-roasted Maine scallop - the most perfectly cooked scallop I have ever encountered. Roasted squab w/leek tartlet and wild mushroom sauce - huge portion of deliciousness but as for my poached salmon, the albumin presence was off-putting and the flavors just didn't hit the right notes. Same situation for the next course: the lamb and crispy polenta were superb, the gamey-ness of the meat was virtually nonexistent but the pan-roasted fluke was overcooked and there was too much acid on the plate. They graciously swapped out the stinky bleu cheese in my cheese course for a creamy camembert served with home-made preserves and more of that delicious bread. Seriously at this point my pants were undone on top and I was thanking God for the candle-light that obscured any clear view of my discomfort. Now the dessert amuse of house made concord grape gelato and jam topping - I really do not care for grape anything but this was amazing stuff. Followed by a frozen blood orange parfait that wasn't sweet but rather refreshing with the accompanying compote. I'm surprised the other B&B patrons didn't complain about all the overindulgence groans coming from our room that night ... The next morning we had a set 'breakfast time' and basically had the whole dining room to ourselves: a little candlelit table in the corner, a basket of fresh, warm pastries, house-made granola, apricot preserves, yogurt and fresh-squeezed orange and grapefruit juices plus some one-on-one time with the chef and proprietor, Peter, made for a an excellent sendoff. We even stopped by the grocery to grab some bread, butter and granola to take home. Thank you Peter & Meredith for an overall incredible visit to your establishment!! (i still look at the photos at least once a week to relive the experience)

Yelp
This restaurant combines very good 4 star food with 5 star ambiance, service and a fabulous bargain price on their mid week "welcome menu" offered Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. . Their $35 three course meals offer great choices, all well prepare,d served in a candlelit old New England atmosphere. It is hard to beat. On our last visit we had the creamy roasted beet soup and salad with a light buttermilk blue cheese dressing. Both were excellent. For main courses we had salmon and chicken, both of which were very good. The potato gnocchi accompanying the salmon were flat out great. Dessert was a berry compote with vanilla ice cream that was good but nothing special. Overall the Old Inn always makes for a nice relaxing evening out of good eating in a great atmosphere. It is a bit of a drive from our place, but always worth it.

Yelp
I purchased a $350 Travel Zoo voucher for a 2 night stay in the creepy town and to eat day old food. I thought it was a great buy, unfortunately, you DO get what you pay for. BEWARE: New Malsborough DOES NOT HAVE WIFI, so in case you need to come to this 'quaint little adorable town' remember to print out your maps and be ready to drive 20 mins to the next town, Great Barrington, to access civilization and some cell phone towers. The inn's selling point was a "historical" take on the inn, so I walked into my room in the Old Inn, I was greeted with a creeky bed and a bathroom without a vent. I was thankful there was electricity, but don't expect any kind of TV (unless you upgrade to the Thayer house). The front door doesn't look really secure with it's "historical/colonial" style iron clad key, the closet was dusty and the door creeked and in general, we couldn't sleep comfortably throughout the weekend. The 1st morning breafkast consisted of hard boiled eggs, granola, fruit and milk or tea, and a warm assortment of pastries including delicious lemon muffins. The voucher also included a lunch at the Southfield Cafe which also sells these the lemon muffins. For dinner, we dined at the Old inn over a 3 course menu and for dessert, "Chef's choice: raspberry preserves and cream over THE SAME LEMON MUFFIN" I don't want to see another lemon muffin again. The silver lining on this trip was a warm breakfast in the outdoor patio.

Yelp
A charming spot with elegant service. They stagger the tables so that this historic inn is never crowded or noisy and always feels like a leisurely and pampered break. On Saturday evenings they serve prixe fixe. We've had outstanding meals and we've had meals that were just good. It's a lovely spot for special occasions and if you're going primarily for the atmosphere and service it will never disappoint.
