What a fun little vibe! We made a reservation and they were not quite ready for us but made accommodations and switched some seating around. The waitress and servers were very nice and funny, we always had someone taking care of us although sometimes I just felt a little uncomfortable with the vibes and it felt like the waitress could have known a little bit more about the menu. I personally got the Patty melt but after eating chips queso guacamole and salsa I was sooo full although it was pretty good overall. The brisket sandwich my bf got was also a 4/5 but the drinks were wonderful. And - we had some AMAZING chips!! The tacos my Mom got looked delicious and my sister was satisfied with her quesadilla!!

Google
Overall great. The appetizer portions are great, super filling. The buger was very delicious but super small, thankfully we ordered apps. Will def go back.

I usually stop here before my appointment at Penny Lane studios. I can say that the margaritas are amazing and the bartender Chad is amazing and super friendly! I would highly recommend the mango or avocado margarita.

Google
The service was second to none & the atmosphere was great. They have a nice patio setup & is definitely a place to watch sports. We had the Enchiladas (which were really delicious 😋) & the Steak Fajitas with beans 🫘 (really wonderful flavor) rice.

Google
Great neighborhood bar and eatery. We went for an after wedding lunch. The mimosas were the draw for our group but I thought the food was very good. Our waiter was A+. Very accommodating, patient. No pressure. We were a loud group but didn't matter there. Really good establishment. Hope to return someday or evening soon

Google
Good place to go if you’re looking for somewhere to get drinks with friends and sit outside. - You can tell that the service is still figuring out logistics. It took 20 minutes after we were seated to get an order placed. However once we got our order done it took not even 10 minutes before we got our food. I think they’re still just working out the kinks as any new restaurant would. - The food we ordered was good. The cuisine is sort of a bbq and taco vibe. A rather limited menu compared to the other restaurants around it. The pictures added to this review are of the pulled pork sandwich and the brisket sandwich. Of which the pulled pork was significantly better. The brisket was far too smoky. Haven’t tried their tacos yet but I think those will be my next order when I go!

Google
Great staff who take time and care to be friendly, professional and always welcoming. Texas expats would especially feel comfortable at this oasis where they can grab a Lonestar and an excellent brisket sandwich. Giving the atmosphere a lower rating, they decorate like crazy for the holidays which is amazing but the owner insists on playing the music as loud as possible which is never fun for anyone.

Google
The food at The Old Plank was okay—mid-level quality, nothing exceptional. However, what really soured the experience was the 4% service fee tacked onto the bill. It’s frustrating as a customer to deal with these extra charges, especially when they’re not clearly explained upfront. Adding fees like this leaves a bad taste and makes the overall dining experience less enjoyable. If restaurants want to justify their prices, they should focus on delivering better quality and transparency instead of surprising customers with hidden costs. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend dining here until they rethink their pricing practices.

Guillermo M.

Yelp
I came to the old plank and They delivered this time The waitress, the lady that help her, were super professional. The food and drinks were very good. I didn't informed the managers or owners. I don't like to get free stuff Because, in my eyes, that make the reviews not so honest. I live in the neighborhood And I'm always eating in the restaurants around here. I believe if you spend $100-1000 You should get good food and a service! That's what we get this time!

Brian D.

Yelp
We visited recently and placed an order from the menu with our server. 5 minutes after we ordered, a manager came over and said what I ordered (fajitas) wasn't available for lunchtime, even though it was on the menu I was given AND there was no distinction saying it wasn't available for lunch- but fine, so I quickly picked something else. 20 minutes later our waitress realizes that the managers interception of the order never got back to the kitchen staff. She apologized. We had two entrees, sodas and an order of fries to share. They should have comp'd us our sodas for their error but they did not, which is really disappointing. Food was fine, but we won't be back. Ambiance was fabulous and is what drew us in. They are all decked out for the holidays and even had a Santa and Grinch walking around, which was cute.

Robert L.

Yelp
Loved the Esquites and the Margaritas were great and can't beat half off on Mondays. The service was quick and friendly.

Eliza M.

Yelp
Food was fine Til the server /bare tender got mad because I asked what came on the tacos after he took the menu away from my face thinking I was done ordering when we were both sharing and says " WTF ARE U SERIOUS SHE HAS A MENU IN HER FACE IF SHE SAYS NO ONIONS SHE KNOWS WAT IS ON THERE MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOUR GENERATION OF PEOPLE MY GOSH " grabbed the menus and hit them on the table as he walked off pissed ! I was so shock we legit laughed it off, still tipped him over 20 percent I think he was just drunk I have been there plenty of times and he has never been that rude. I felt so uncomfortable.. like there was a kid sitting on the next table with their family SMFH.. idk what that was about but for a man to scream at women like that was just wild and crazy

Nick C.

Yelp
I work from here every afternoon and it's always a great vibe with Chad but the owner comes in and changes the music and blasts it so loud that I usually have to leave. It's always great when there's not nightclub music on, in the middle of the day, especially when the bar is usually full and everyone is having a good time. Seen the bar clear out in 10 minutes after the music changes. Just play some stupid rock music and keep it low so people can enjoy the bar without shouting.

Ian S.

Yelp
Super busy on a bears Sunday but the bartender was a blast to be around and great day all around

Kianoosh K.

Yelp
Normal food and decent drinks Ambiance is as casual as it gets and it's a Michigan bar Service - I got yelled at because i spilled a beer while trying to help the busboy. He didn't even give me extra napkins or help dry up. He just straight up yelled at me "WHAT ARE YOU DOING", stumped and angrily walked away. Older gentleman so I didn't follow up but I'm surely taken back by it. Other than him the rest of the service was alright.

Albert M.

Yelp
Worst food service! Went in on a Sunday evening and it took like 10 minutes before someone came to our table. When the waitress finally arrived she took our drink order and it took forever for 2 beers. I looked at the bar area and they were just walking around doing nothing. Mind you there were only like 3 tables occupied in the whole place. Placed our food order and specifically said we wanted our appetizers out first before the entrees. Of course they came out with half the entrees and the appetizers. When I asked the older gentleman who was in a hurry to collect dishes about my burger he waved his hand said " it's coming! " and waved his hand at me like if I was bothering him. Burger came out finally after like 15 min. Regretfully ordered more beer and that took awhile. Really weird experience. First time there and I will never go back!

Greg N.

Yelp
Very nice outdoor and open window seating for good weather. Frozen margarita was tasty. Also enjoyed the chipotle chopped salad.

Marc D.

Yelp
Late in reviewing the Old Plank. OP is a fun spot right on Milwaukee. They have a great row of garage windows that are great to sit at inside and enjoy some fresh air. I wouldn't necessarily ball them Tex Mex not sure exactly how to say. More Mexican fusion that is done very well. Their day specials are great. Margarita Mondays $7 margs. Taco Tuesday $2 Tacos Wings Wesnesdays $0.50 wings. The flavors are great. Fajitas and smokey and the veggies have a great char on them. Burritos are huge. The brunch is wonderful. This is a fun place to come any day any reason.

Jasmine B.

Yelp
Came here for bevies with my mates on a random whim and had such a good time. I was feeling margarita-y so first opted for the mango which was delicious but then on second go wanted something a bit more classic (and bigger), enter the OP frozen. That did the trick! Our table also ordered some fries and just kicked back and relaxed. The game was on, and this place maybe has like a gajillion TVs so no shortage on entertainment. Definitely a great spot to grab a drink and quick bite with friends. Can't wait to come back in the summmaaa

Victoria F.

Yelp
We were enticed by the chill inside/outside vibes on a hot summer day, but unfortunately, the drinks and service were not great. To be fair, we didn't get any food, but the drinks tasted weird, and it was difficult to flag down a server. The bathrooms were gross and not maintained well. I guess you are paying for the ambiance and location.

Milton W.

Yelp
It's complicated. Food was good. Way better than bar food. Michelin star, no. Guac and salsa delivered quickly. Drinks slowly. Manager came by and confessed one of the servers quit just before we arrived, major kudos for honesty. Sh*t happens. Don't make me sit thinking all is normal. Food was good, drinks were slow, so we ordered at the bar. The service team was overwhelmed, but kind and apologetic. Will be back.

Dee M.

Yelp
I never had a buffalo chicken wrap with warm lettuce . I couldn't stomach it. The waiter was nice and ended up comping my meal. This is the second time I tried this place and I was disappointed. Service was slow and it wasn't packed. Such a shame. It's a great place to hang but I left feeling totally underwhelmed.

Yelp
My love and I were doing sort of a Logan Square pub crawl on Milwaukee Avenue one weekday, so we decided to pop into The Old Plank to check out some Happy Hour specials. The cool wall art shows a fiery "In the heart of Logan Square" - I dig that. Somehow, we wound up in sort of a personal booth even though it was only the two of us (I think you can fit six friends in this booth), so we could drink and snack in peace while a random sports was on a telly within our booth. My wandering sports eye spotted other screens in the bar broadcasting a plethora of sports action (including baseball and soccer). We really liked our Happy Hour specials, and openly wondered if the HH specials would eventually be different one of these days. My love was wowed by her boldly colored frozen passionfruit margarita. I enjoyed my patty melt special (including seasoned fries) with a Trumer Pilsner, and those two items were only $10 in total. The patty melt on Texas toast was yummy and actually rather filling, so my snack essentially became my early dinner.

Bob R.

Yelp
This was outstanding. There were four of us there, about lunchtime. We ordered a variety of items from breakfast (brunch) to sandwiches. Here, they offer some vegan options and I've wanted to try one of the plant-based burgers, They offer Beyond Burgers. If you have read through some of my reviews, you know that I'm partial to hamburgers. I have to admit, I couldn't tell the difference. The "meat" was flavorful, had a grilled texture, it certainly looked like ground beef, but most surprising to me was they even got the meat texture inside the burger right. The plant-based meats do tend to be a bit more expensive than a good ole burger right now. If this catches on, not only will the price come down, but it will also help with our climate. Our server was great, the service good, and the place was quite lively. We will certainly be back.

Fredrick L.

Yelp
This is literally my favorite place to eat. My partner and I come here quite often. We love Logan Square and this place is just always the vibe for us. Their frozen margaritas are addicting and everything you could need. ($7 on mondays!) -We don't explore the menu a lot but I can tell you the quesadilla is great, the chips and cheese are fire, and every time I see a burger pass by they look amazing! (But I'm a creature of habit) Thanks for being my favorite!

Peter C.

Yelp
A fun corner location that lets you people watch graciously. We sat at the bar, we enjoyed one round of delicious espresso martinis then we watched shift change and round two did NOT taste as good as the first.. although both bar tenders were fun to chat with their skills may vary.

Cynthia H.

Yelp
I've been to The Old Plank a few times and never knew they had an outdoor patio in the back but that's because we always sit in the front patio. I love the ease and flow of this sports bar restaurant. The Old Plank has a feel like it could be located somewhere in a sunny climate, so you don't feel like you're in Chicago/Logan Square even on a winter day. Came by myself on one occasion and was very comfortable sitting outside on the front patio while watching people pass by. The wait staff also seem to be in the same pattern of the restaurant, serving with that same ease and flow. I have only had drinks (draft beers) here but the food looks good. This would be a great spot to visit if you're a tourist or visiting from out of town and enjoy hanging out with the locals as The Old Plank is definitely a neighborhood hang out spot. It's a short walk from the Logan Square L stop, which is about a 20/30 minute train ride from downtown.

Marlene S.

Yelp
Came for an early brunch with some girlfriends. We sat in the back patio and it was pretty spaced out there! I cannot remember what my friends ordered, but they all had a certain margarita they all loved! I went the basic route and had a mimosa lol. (They have bottomless mimosa or rose!) we all had different meals, but I went with the French toast. It was tasty but nothing to rave about. Over all nice vibe and would come back. They also have to go cups available!

Dominik R.

Yelp
Everytime I have come here, the service is terrible and can never get the attention of a waiter. On top of that, they force you to pay a 20% gratuity and a 4% service charge that the waiters definitely don't deserve based on the level of service I have received.

Olivia S.

Yelp
Old Plank never disappoints. Their food always slaps and their drinks are always on point (as long as Chloe makes it, her Easy on Me cocktail is the best cocktail I've ever had) Kind service from most everyone who's ever served me and I come here.. a lot. I WILL be back (probably in a few days)

Kelsey K.

Yelp
We stopped in here with a group for some post-event margs and tacos and we had a great time. Clara was friendly and attentive and I'll definitely be coming back! Thanks, OP, for the hospitality!

Killian F.

Yelp
I used to love this place and have introduced many of my friends. It was a great spot to stop by mid-week for some good food. But we are done. They absolutely insist on BLASTING the music so loud you can't even talk! (And with hardly anyone there on a week night. Go figure.) It's hard to believe management could be so clueless and foolish about basic atmosphere. And in today's world, where customer experience is everything, it's even more stunning these guys flat out refuse customer requests to turn down the music. Wow. We're taking our business to the other neighborhood spots that happily cater to the customer. Goodbye Old Plank. You literally threw us off the plank! Good luck. #FAIL

Cara S.

Yelp
Love this place! The ambiance is super welcoming and warm. The food was great and so were the drinks! We had the greatest server, Arturo. He went above and beyond to make our brunch awesome! I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back!

Lynn M.

Yelp
You do need to wear a mask upon arrival and if you need to get up from your table to go to the bathroom. They have so much seating I didn't even realize they had a back as well. We sat inside by the window and the breeze was perfect! Tempura Baja shrimp (wanted to try 3 different tacos but the deal they have you can only pick one and you get 3 of them). I asked if I can not get the deal and just order 3 separate ones and they said no, so just a heads up! The Baja shrimp wasn't too bad the veggies they had it in made it more refreshing. The batter was a little more thicker than what I would have liked but still edible. Drinks Sadia de Lucy: this was great very refreshing and light. Not as sweet as what I was expecting when I saw it had "watermelon" in it. Avacado margarita: this was interesting my fiancé really liked this one. It went down smooth and was also refreshing.

Abby K.

Yelp
Some of the worst service I've ever experienced in Chicago, and they think they can add a 20% automatic gratuity for tables of 3 or more?! Took forever to get our order taken, took forever to get the check, and then had to stand up and flag the guy down to get him to take my check because he was too busy drinking a marg with the people at a table behind us. Props to the busboy for always looking busy and doing things!

Aron M.

Yelp
I live by the Old Plank. It's great! EXCEPT on a Friday or Saturday night, the place turns into a music club. With terrible music at an ungodly level for folks trying to eat and actually have a conversation? Im 50 so maybe im too old? I guarantee my money isn't old enough to come here on a weekend but turn in down to just under 11, then i would love to sit there and so would all my friends!

Elgin B.

Yelp
This was my first outing to the Old Plank and I must say not bad at all. The dry Rub wings lived up to the hype, simply Delicious! I also had the stake tacos which were also great. Drinks where nice as well and over all nice Atmosphere. Great spot for a date, outing with friends or a quick bit while watching the game.

Kouchie Y.

Yelp
Tacos were fire and the guacamole with chips wow!! Visited on a Friday It was quite loud with the music on blast and people packed the restaurant! Recommend giving this lil neighborhood spot a try.

Daisy A.

Yelp
Food was good but I can't get by the mandatory convenience fee they charge without letting you know. It's robbery. Plus they're the type who's tip percentage starts at 20% like they aren't robbing us blind already

Clay G.

Yelp
As I visited my friends in Chicago again, it seems like I'm eating everywhere on this stretch of Milwaukee. With plenty of outdoor seating, The Old Plank was a great place for dinner. The tacos were some of the best I've ever had in my life. Every bite was a flavor explosion. Unfortunately, they're pretty small and I was still hungry after. With a beer or two, you can run up quite the check very quickly. Overall though, definitely a great meal.

Ines M.

Yelp
Clara was and is an awesome server very attentive to every need love it here and of course the bartender is awesomeness as well!!!!drinks are well served on the happiness hour!!!!

Angel O.

Yelp
I was charged a 10 convenience fee. No clue what I was convenienced for. Won't be back

Liz M.

Yelp
This spot is really cute in the neighborhood and I wish I liked it better, but I think the food is really only ok. Service was fine and drinks were ok- I thought a little small for the price on cocktails. But the biggest disappointment was the food, which was very greasy and over salted. The queso was not good. The elote was ok just really bland (salt only, not acidic or particularly creamy) and the tacos were greasy and salty and not great. I think the prices just didn't line up with the quality overall. I'm hoping I just caught them on an off day, and I'm planning to go back soon to see if it's better. The space is extremely cute and a great location.

Ana B.

Yelp
Wow where do we start? An establishment that charges a fee for the pandemic. I think I've heard it all. At the bottom of our receipt we saw an added amount. It wasn't much it was $5 and some change but when we asked what that fee was all about the poor servers response was that management added that fee for the cost of wipes, hand sanitizer and all cleaning things covid related. Incredible. We obviously paid our server 25% because we are generous and believe in supporting wait staff. But management should not be charging an up charge for an already over priced meal. We will take our business elsewhere. The food is mediocre at best, the wings were dry, their burgers are nothing special, the margaritas were good- but we rather give our money to places that support their staff not their pathetic excuse to cover covid supplies.

Sean J.

Yelp
Look, we went to this place for probably the same reasons most people do...it's in a great location, with open-air seating, right on the sidewalk, and it looked safe and clean. The atmosphere is very generic, but the Logan Square central people-watching is excellent. I'm sure the drinks are just fine, if uninspired (a word that could sum the entire place up neatly) The food, however, is where everything broke down. The selection is very average, but then the average-in-nature food was just no good. I have personally never had such a dry, hard-to-eat chicken sandwich in my life, and then the other sandwiches at our table were equally meh. The fries had the unique property that they tasted NOTHING like potatoes, but instead exactly like nachos, which messed with our minds. I like nachos, and I like french fries, but the unholy amalgam of these was not good. It's obvious they have fried, like, ten-thousand nacho chips in the same oil, which gave the fries their "fiesta". I hate being so negative, but I also hate when people don't even try to serve good food. I also hate the wasted opportunity to try something better in the area.

Mariana R.

Yelp
horrible experience trying to watch the World Cup with NO VOLUME at all- other than the American football game that they were playing. If this is a "U Michigan Sports Bar" they should limit themselves to playing ONLY American football and not lure customers in for a soccer match viewing if they're not even going to display the game as it should be. No DJ at all. And place was over capacity.

Gamaliel E.

Yelp
Made a pit stop here with the kids on a gorgeous day. Kids menu was a nice surprise and the happy hour margaritas were an even nicer surprise. Our server was super friendly and the queso and chips hit the spot. The chicken tenders were homemade and not frozen. It was all very good. The windows were wide open so we were able to enjoy the great weather. Will be back.

Pauline G.

Yelp
This place can walk the plank. I had made a reservation here to watch The University of Michigan play in the college championship game. The res was made a week in advance and part of our party was making the trip into the city from the suburbs. Upon arrival on game day, on time for my reservation, my party was turned away due to the bar "overbooking". We were then told the owner chose to seat a group of 20 friends instead of our group of 5. While I'm sure economically this was a great choice, this was really poor service. I would have at minimum appreciated a heads up that they overbooked, instead I was marked as seated on OpenTable. and turned away. The game had just started so we had to scramble to find a backup option. Luckily the evening turned around as we enjoyed watching Michigan win a neighborhood over at Parlor Pizza instead.

Mindy C.

Yelp
1st time. Only had a beer. It's tasty. The place is mid sized. They do have many food choices. Maybe try them next time.

Deirdre E.

Yelp
Found this place for a late lunch on a Saturday. Excellent food, good portions and great service. The menu is much bigger than the typical brunch menus and includes breakfast foods and Mexican food and burgers. Would definitely recommend!

Lucas W.

Yelp
FIVE STARS ALL DAY! We came for brunch on a Saturday and we're lucky to get a seat, it's a Michigan bar so game days are packed. The food - The drinks - The service - The atmosphere here is fantastic - open air concept, fun and lively. Really can't beat it! The food is Texan style, a great mix of Tex-Mex and modern breakfast. The bottomless mimosas are, we'll, truly bottomless. The Bloody Mary was incredible. Make sure to CALL ahead as they might have some openings for reservation that the website doesn't mention - a tip from the hostess. Definitely give this place a shot! It'll become a regular on your list in no time!

Favorable F.

Yelp
The Old Plank in Logan Square is a good hangout bar for friends or if you are a Michigan fan. We have been here multiple times and enjoy the atmosphere, drinks, and the back patio. We have tried multiple items on the menu (ranging from brunch, to dinners to happy hours). We would continue to go here for the atmosphere but the food and drinks tend to be pricey for what they are.

Kari S.

Yelp
This place has a fun atmosphere, good food, and yummy drinks. We were met by the new manager, Edgar, who was super friendly and made us feel welcomed. The staff is also super friendly! We will definitely come back. Great place to watch a game As well.

Jason T.

Yelp
Good vibes, good bar food, lots of tvs, good selection of beers. Open air when it's nice

Nick G.

Yelp
Got the nachos on Thursday I think $9 happy hour. Really good chips are a little crispier than I thought they would be but not in a bad way

Madison S.

Yelp
Was able to get seated outdoors immediately , the outdoor space is a decent size ! First - the staff was super friendly ! Our waiter was able to make us some recommendations on cocktails and gave us space to just hang and drink . For cocktails - the dragon frozen drink was amazing , on a hot day Absolutely recommend. We also got the avocado Margarita which was really different but good. Second - we shared the nachos , the portion size was great for 2 people , and had heavy on the toppings . Would definitely come back to try more of the food and drinks !

Bridget M.

Yelp
Great margaritas!!! Came here with a party of 6 on a Sunday during brunch and it wasn't too crowded. Loved all the different kinds of margaritas. Staff was super nice, too. We didn't have the food but will definitely come back to try it.
