The Eccentric Inns of England

"The seaside resort town of Hastings sees enough traffic to support some biggish hotels, but none are as stylish as the Old Rectory, an eight-room bed and breakfast owned by a fashion designer." - Mark Fedeli

"The seaside resort town of Hastings sees enough traffic to support some biggish hotels, but none are as stylish as the Old Rectory, a nine-room bed and breakfast owned by a fashion designer whose fine taste is evident in every detail. Thanks to its small size (and its 10-and-up policy) it’s refreshingly quiet, and while every room is different they’re connected by a unified aesthetic that combines period atmosphere and contemporary visual impact. Spa treatments are available, as is a generous made-to-order breakfast; the location, on the edge of Hastings’ old town, places you close to any number of local restaurants." - Tablet Hotels

Perfect, idyllic, lovely, homely and friendly. A charming and lovely place to escape from every day hustle and bustle. For us it was the perfect place t host our nearest and dearest for our wedding. Natalie runs the place with an easy confidence, always reassuring, and nothing is to much trouble. They have a marriage license which meant we could have our simple ceremony in the incredibly beautiful gardens. The rooms are all lovely, and our guests were unanimous; the breakfasts are outstanding. We love the Old Rectory!

We had the loveliest stay at Old Rectory! Everything is so beautifully thought out & executed so well! We had amazing massage treatments, cream tea & prosecco and then amazing breakfast the next day. The garden is so lovely, we enjoyed a drink out there in the sun before we headed into the old town, and then sat in the garden again later in the evening with a drink from the honesty bar - we cannot wait to come back!

We booked afternoon tea at The Old Rectory to celebrate our friend’s baby shower. The sun was shining and we were lucky to be able to sit in the garden which is absolutely beautiful. The afternoon tea was delicious and the service was attentive and friendly. Thank you for a lovely afternoon and experience, we will be back.

We went to the cafe and, having read fantastic reviews on the main B&B, I was very disappointed. The acoustics in the cafe are poor with a very noisy coffee machine. The tea was incredibly weak (even after standing for 10 minutes) and the bacon bap was tasteless, as was the "walnut ketchup. ||There internet went down rendering the electronic till, useless, We waited 15 minutes just to pay - with cash! It may not have been their fault but it was badly handled.. At £20 for two I feel it is poor value and not a great experience.

This guesthouse/Bed and Breakfast/Boutique Hotel came across by chance on one of our on-a-whim, last-minute Booking.com researches for the Jack in the Green weekend. We ventured further in their websites and we were welcomed by this fresh, yet so elegant look of this wonderful little gem nestled just minutes walking distance from The Stag, one of our favourite pubs in Hastings Old Town.||Welcomed by Natalie, her professionalism and knowledge of the area made us feel at home immediately, giving us a quick tour and quick fire rules of where things were: very clear and to the point. She escorted us in our room: spotlessly clean, quirky and ample bathroom with a lovely shower.||One of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept, with some mixed feelings with pillows, but that's just a matter of taste: the room was absolutely beautiful, and for the time we went, it was perfect for us and for what it was needed for the weekend.||Breakfast was an absolute gem: the cosy dining room gave us feel-like home vibes, with the extra hospitality that makes you feel like you were served in a high-end hotel. We had the specials and they were exquisite. No wonder they were 2024 Michelin Award winners.||Garden at the back is also one of the reasons this geusthouse does not feel like a guesthouse, but a boutique hotel. They do hold weddings and for a good reason: well kept and thought-out landscape, with thies little secret paths leading you all around the terraced garden, with all the types of plants and flower you could imagine.||The common area was a joy to rest in just for some time before climbing up the stairs to our room. It felt like we were at home, with once again a well though-out interior design that harmonises with the whole feel of the decor, without compromising on originality and historical importance.||We left with a twinkle on our eye, but knowing that we will definitely be back for - hopefully - many years to come, whether it's Jack in the Green, or Pirates Day, or simply a lovely night out in Hastings.||Thank you Natalie and your team: you made a couple very happy to be with you at your idyllic establishment that is the Old Rectory.||Claudio and Christina

We got married here in 2012. Amazing, intimate venue, which ended up with us moving to Hastings two years later. Great move. The old rectory holds a special memories…
