These Are the Twin Cities Restaurants That Have Closed in 2019 So Far | Eater Twin Cities

"I remember the Old Spaghetti Factory's 25-year run at the edge of downtown (a relic of the area's earlier days) with its '90s-era kitsch, candelabra elegance, and reliably gentle-flavored food — it closed on August 24 to make way for a Pinstripes at the site." - Eater Staff

I must say it was my first time here and wow. The service was perfect! Rondell or I think his nickname was Bronx was just so entertaining and personable that it really tied everything together! The ambience is great classic and just a good vibe! Good had a nice surprise being that each meal was a 3 course style meal and affordable all the way through! The soup… that minestrone soup! Again first time trying it and it was just great! I don’t have enough time currently to finish this review but look, it’s a great spot to go and I will be back again! Everything was amazing!

Google
very nice experience with a great atmosphere, one of the best restaurant interiors I’ve seen in a while. well priced and portioned, it’s always nice to have multiple courses built into the meals at a restaurant. not the greatest pasta but nothing to complain about, pretty good! service was great as well, our server Amiyah was fantastic. and they served delicious spumoni. overall: 🤩🍨🧱

Nicole B.

Google
The restaurant staff were pleasant and attentive. Service with a smile! My food was delicious. I ordered the spinach & artichoke dip, and garlic shrimp fettuccine; a soup or salad and dessert was included. Well worth the price!

Google
This is our 2nd or 3rd trip to this place. We love the ambience and the food was good. They have a few vegetarian options. We initially thought we would share since the dinner portion is generally large, but that wasn't the case here. We each ordered our own and finished them. We ordered from the pasta classics and that's a complete 3 course meal. It comes with soup or salad, bread, pasta and ice cream at the end. The soup was minestrone and it was vegetarian. The lady who served us awesome. It was a great experience overall.

Google
The food's amazing, every bite's super tasty and memorable, and the service is friendly, quick, and polite. Plus, the building's historical design makes the whole thing even more unforgettable.

Google
Celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary. We were seated pretty quickly, our waitress was amazing, the food was great, then took our dessert home. The tiramisu was delicious. ❤️

Google
Beautiful Italian restaurant, loved the decor. I always wanted to visit this place when I was a kid but finally got to experience it and it exceeded my expectations. Nisha was my server and gave excellent service even with the 16 top table she had next to me. I loved the mushroom ravioli and mocktail drinks. And it was a treat to have complimentary spumoni. I was only disappointed they were out of tiramisu, but that just means I'll have to come back. This was a sad trip to come back to Missouri as we laid my sister to rest but spending the day in St Louis with a delicious meal and friendly service reminded me how much I love St. Louis, thank you Nisha!

Google
The place was okay overall. It's a bit of a challenge to find the place the first time around. The food is good. The service was okay & a bit slow at times.

Lisa A.

Yelp
This was an amazing place! The atmosphere was family friendly, very unique and the food was delicious. We had the fried ravioli, baked lasagna, spicy garlic spaghetti, and fettuccini Alfredo. All the dishes were outstanding. The services was top notch as well. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Our server was amazing, offering suggestions and thoughts. The bread, hub's minestrone, and our meals were delish! Ambiance-5 star! Beautiful tables, neat trolley, and awesome background music. We look forward to going back in our customary seven years.

Yelp
TL;dr version: Pretty decent pasta at fair prices in a super cool historic building. If you're looking for Italian food like they serve on the Hill, this probably isn't your place. However, if you're looking for decent pasta in a cool atmosphere, this fits the bill. We had the chicken parmigiana and baked lasagna, both of which were very good. I'm a cheapskate, but I found the $20 price tag reasonable for the 3 course entrees (salad or soup, entree, ice cream). The portion was huge, so I do have dinner for tomorrow as well. Service was outstanding. Our server was attentive and a guy we could totally hang out with at a bar. Atmosphere is gorgeous. Very regal, probably over done for a spaghetti place, but a big reason we came here. It's a historic building with over the top classy decor. Great place to go if you're looking for decent Americanized Italian food. Great for St. Louis tourists who want to see some historic architecture.

Yelp
It's been several years since I've visited an Old Spaghetti Factory, and I'd have to say I remember why. I was pretty excited when we pulled into St. Louis to see that they still had one open as ours closed where we live over 10 years ago. We were great upon entering and quickly taken to a table. However, I'm not really sure about our server, but I'll come back to that. So I ordered the chicken parmsean breast only and a side of broccoli. When it was delivered to the table, it was the chicken parmesan meal. I see a man who looks to me the manager and call him over before touching the plate to ask, and that was indeed the case. He advised that he would correct the ticket in the system and apologized for the mistake. It was very obvious that he'd said something to our server when she came back as her attitude had changed. She was now very short with her words and swiftly moving. The quality of the food was just ok, the salad dressing very bland and appearance mediocre as you can see in the picture. The ambiance was nice and had lots of potential. Would I visit this location again, probably not, but you could have a totally different experience, so please make your own judgment.

Yelp
Delicious food in a classic building in downtown St Louis. Great location, fantastic service. The booths are comfortable and give you a feeling of privacy and elegance.
google avatar

Yelp
I have been visiting this location for 30 years and it always delivers. The food was prepared as expected, our waitress was wonderful and attentive. This location is always so fun to visit, in a basement, lots of history and a unique feel.

Yelp
Old school great This restaurant is in a cool old building, and has a great ambiance. It feels so fancy. Solid old school style fancy. Staff was so friendly and helpful. Everyone was so so so nice. Food was solid. It was our favorite meal in St. Louis. Our picky 6 year old was very happy. Warm bread and butter was great Kid got plain spaghetti, apple sauce, milk, and vanilla ice cream. And ate until he was full. Marinara sauce spaghetti was great Salad was good Broccoli was good, but had too much butter for me Ice cream was good Family friendly, date night friendly. This really is an all occasion place.

Yelp
This was my husbands childhood restaurant. He has been telling me about it for years - and we finally got to visit. The interior is a gorgeous old school building, and walking down the stairs to the restaurant was like going back in time. There's a giant train in the middle with kiddos begging their parents to sit inside during their meals. Our food was IMPECCABLE. Everything was delicious, my husband shared some of his spaghetti & raved about how it brought back so many memories - we got extra bread & butter & our server had us laughing the entire time. He was dead sprinting between tables & still managing to get us whatever we requested of him. Honestly, extremely fun experience & I am excited to hopefully bring future generations here to have the experience the same wonderment.

Yelp
We made a reservation for 17 ppl on our last night in St Louis. Called a few weeks prior ... and They told us they couldn't accommodate to us to 730pm. When we arrived early they said they would text us when our table was done ... when I checked in she asked if our party was here so they could check us in ‍ While the meal was multiple courses it took an hour or so for our entrees ti come out ... in 2 waves ... accept one dish that came out after the rest of the party was done. The food was dry and not really hot ... couldn't recommend ... The music was pretty loud and hard to hear ... even after they closed and we waited for our ice cream.
google avatar

Yupeng L.

Yelp
The food is decent. I ordered the Spicy Mt. Vesuvius and it didn't disappoint. However, the sample sizes seem a bit smaller than for restaurants of similar style. I could be wrong but that was my experience. I suspect the portion size may balance out the cost of the salad and ice cream dessert, which are bundled into the pricing. The interior is dimly lit with a lively ambiance. The service was wonderful. Overall we had a good time.

Yelp
What can I say it's a guilty pleasure. Would come here a lot when in school, affordable and flavorful. Same old charm, old and eclectic. Went on a Wednesday and was not crowded at all. Got the potpourri sampler so I got a sampling of their sauces but the main reason is the mixture cheese and brown butter.

Yelp
Yes sir!! Wonderful Italian food with great service! Ambiance is always good, but I keep coming back for the food!! The tortellini was two enthusiast thumbs up!!
google avatar

Quintella M.

Yelp
I was a little nervous because the reviews were a three star but my cousin whom I was visiting instead we go. I was impressed, it was better than expected, the strawberry pomegranate drop was fantastic and the three course meal option was perfect, it came with bread, soup or salad, the entree and ice cream. I ordered the salad and the garlic shrimp pasta, fantastic! It was fresh and well seasoned. It was great for our large party of 14! Close parking and spacious. Nice staff. And I totally forgot to take pictures! Sorry!

Yelp
Came here with my wife and some friends of ours and as always this place never disappoints, the food was great as always, our server was great as well and the atmosphere is always great highly recommend for anyone wanting good Italian
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
Since we were downtown already we thought it would fun to go to the landing and eat at The Spaghetti Factory for old times sake. But I have to tell you that really nostalgia is the ONLY thing this place has going for it. It's the easiest restaurant concept ever. Boil noodles, pour sauce over it. Premake everything..... how do you screw that up?! Well, by not caring about the flavor, quality or experience... that's how! Even my desert of spumoni was tasteless and freezer burned.
google avatar

Yelp
Love love love this restaurant service is always the best I love the decor and vibe the whole restaurant gives off I will say you have to pay for parking (unless u park on the street down the road "illegally") they have a parking lot right across from the main front entrance and that's usually gonna run you $20-$30 dollars other then parking it's great I got the stuffed spinach and cheese pasta comes in tomato sauce but I mixed Alfredo and the tomato sauce and it was great. Definitely recommend will be returning.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was delicious. We were so happy bec the spaghetti factories throughout California and one we went to in Ohio were not in comparison at all!!! The service was awesome!!! One waitress was kicking ass having a FULL huge room from wall closest to water to other side of trolley due to no one wanting to work since Covid. Manager was super friendly and loved our asking to talk to him to give kudos to our waitress. This is a cool looking 2 story restaurant with a bar. It was packed so I didn't want anyone offended by my picture taking so these pics is all you get :-/

Yelp
I've been coming here for many years, and I've never been disappointed in the food. I'm partial to the brown butter mizithra spaghetti myself, but it's also the only place I know that serves clam sauce. They are famous for their spumoni ice cream, which is cherry pistachio and chocolate. And the Italian cream sodas are amazing and come in a souvenir cup for a really good price. The furniture and light fixtures alone are worth coming for, as they are eclectic and unique, such as the headboards separating tables or the trolley car they found in a field in Kansas some decades back. Service...I mean the servers are nice and try really hard but it's not fast. Might be the kitchen's fault. But either way, I consistently find the dinner here is slow.
google avatar

Shandi P.

Yelp
I have been coming to The Old Spaghetti Factory since I was a kid, and I always have to get some pasta with mizithra cheese. I love the atmosphere, which is dim, elegant old chairs and cushions, and a trolley you can sit inside. The ambiance is why I keep coming back, though the food is good, too. typically get the Manager's Special (a spaghetti with the choice of two sauces) with mushroom marinara and mizithra. Meals come with fresh-baked bread, a starter, and ice cream. I always get the salad as a starter, as I love their house pesto ranch. For dessert, I choose spumoni ice cream, which is a delicious swirl of chocolate, cherry, and pistachio ice creams. I can't rate this place a 5 because I can't help but compare it to what it used to be, and they used to have a whole-wheat noodle option, better bread, and two types of butter. Still, it's a solid 4, and I would recommend a visit--especially if you're in from out of town and visiting the Arch and Laclede's Landing.
google avatar

Josh R.

Yelp
The setting is very unique as it's in the basement of the building which makes it seem historical. It was crowded when I went but you got seated fast and service was good. The food was decent, not super special.
google avatar

Daniel A.

Yelp
So as far as Italian places go this was adequate. Food was decent, not good. The chicken and broccoli fettuccine Alfredo was creamy, chicken was chunks that tasted like that shit you get from the can, and the broccoli wasn't bad. The tamponade was actually good, but the bread was cold. My wife had the spinach and cheese ravioli and asked for meat sauce...she got chunky ragu. Then halfway through was correct with a bowl of meat sauce. The spumoni was most likely from a carton in the freezer of pre made stuff. Cesar salad was good. The waiter seemed to be stoned...which normally I wouldn't care. Unfortunately he forgot drinks, refills, silverware for dessert, and overall not a conversationalist for more than 3 minutes. Atmosphere although was the best out of everything, the ambiance of the place was cool, and chill. The seating, the look, the bar, the open floor plan, the gutted out trolley very cool. Price was not terrible and I wasn't hurting after a $50 bill for 2...so like I said adequate, not good. 5/10

Yelp
servers were rude and was ignored by servers. Food was dry had to ask for sugar. the decor was off and the lamps were flickering

Amy P.

Yelp
Good is great and ambiance is nice. If it is a day of events downtown, you may need to get a reservation.
google avatar

Kay C.

Yelp
Good food. Our server Shannon was great! It was only her 3 rd shift with Spaghetti Factory. She was very friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. The place is also really cool looking.

Lee C.

Yelp
The quality of the food has gone way down over the years. The service was horrible, to say the least.
google avatar

Trevor J.

Yelp
First off, the food was good and the server was friendly. I could tell that the server was swamped as we only saw him occasionally. When we sat at our table, there was a housefly that was trapped in the parmesan cheese shaker. I named the fly Fred and gave the server the shaker to take it back for a good clean. I was very impressed that the server didn't even react when he took it from me. He just looked at it and said, "I will take that." The portions give a little room to be desired. I had the lasagna and it could have been a little bigger. Everyone at the table was given ice cream, I guess that's a normal thing here? I'm not entirely sure to be honest.
google avatar

Alex P.

Yelp
An incredibly busy Old Spaghetti Factory establishment for good reason too. The food was incredibly moist and delicious in a well lit seating area that resonated the building's old charm. I would recommend additional staff as the staff was quite busy due to high seating compacity.

Meghan F.

Yelp
I ordered take out and they gave me two paper bags with no handles. I was walking 10 minutes back to my hotel so that was not ideal at all. That said, they forgot to pack salad dressing, a side of broccoli for my kids and the Caesar salad was a head of lettuce chopped up-that's it. No cheese, croutons, olives or nothing just plain lettuce chopped up (with no dressing). The pasta I had was good and the side of chicken I ordered was flavorful. The kids liked their Mac and cheese. The ice cream that comes with the kids entrees was about a tablespoon or two which was okay with me, but small even for kids. We were underwhelmed to say the least. I had to order a salad from another restaurant so definitely don't think I would go back.

Yelp
I've been here several times. The space is incredible. 2 floors, so much stained glass, and that trolley. They were super short staffed last Sunday--grand total of 4 employees. Told us it would be a 45 minute wait. We were seated in 20 or under. Great service. Was my aunt's favorite meal of her week in the Midwest. She and I had pasta with browned butter and mizithra cheese, which neither of us and tried before. We both liked it. Our other 2 companions much enjoyed their meaty dishes. Before that, I had a salad. I forget which one. After the pasta, I had a scoop of spumoni. Great service and they had us socially distanced. It is so worth a stop, the wait, and even the prices. You get a full meal with that order!
google avatar

Matthew C.

Yelp
Had a large group here for dinner last week on a Thursday night. We got there at 5 to beat the rush. Our waiter did a nice job trying to keep up which is challenging with a group of 15+ and people on separate checks. The food was ok and for a group this large it worked. Nothing special. I would not rush back, but if we are in town for volleyball next year I would consider it as everyone is able to find something on the menu they like.
google avatar

Katie D.

Yelp
The decor is cute and campy. However, the food leaves much to be desired. Most of our entrees and appetizers tasted like frozen food thawed and warmed. It was decent at best.

Addison W.

Yelp
The food is amazing, the service is great and quick! And the ambiance is amazing it really makes you feel like your back in time to the old times.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow, it's literally been decades since I've set foot at OSF, and honestly like my friend Brian, I really don't get the whole fascination over the chain. It's always been a staple on Laclede's Landing, and it is now the only surviving restaurant that has been there since last century (it's actually been there since 1977). Yes its fancy on the inside and all, but I wish I had plenty of positive things to say here. Like I said, it's been several years since I've been to Old Spaghetti Factory and I decided to come here and support a Laclede's Landing business. The wait to get seated wasn't that long, but the service was so freaking slow. After nearly 20 minutes waiting on my server, he apologized saying that there's only 6 of them on the floor and they were short-staffed in the back. I get it, times are tough, whatever. I went ahead and ordered a spaghetti and meatballs entree, which I chose salad and ice cream (you get options if you get an entree). Food was nearly a half hour wait (no joke!) and I tried to bear with them. But it didn't take me long to realize I was given the wrong dish (they gave me spaghetti with meat sauce, which I did not care for). I was so hungry that I just gave up and ate it anyway. Server didn't even give me parmesan cheese or anything like that. Very slow on the refills that I actually had to call him over. Look, the place wasn't packed and there were maybe 2 long tables with huge parties (one of them his) but at least check back on your customers every now and then, okay? He gave me a half-assed apology and I was so angry that I didn't tip him. But I kept my cool. Hopefully these people realize that customers are going through tough times too. When people get "stiffed" by me, I hope its a wake-up call for them. I'm not one of those that asks for their boss. So anyway, that's my two cents on the OSF. No I won't be coming back unless someone drags me there.

Yelp
It was a Wednesday night and they were not busy and yet my server couldn't keep up. I asked to have a wedge of lemon in my glass of water and a Prosecco at the time of the meal. He brought the water and then I asked for the lemon and he said oh yeah, right and left then the meal was delivered. I asked for the Prosecco and he smiled and left. I was almost done and I waived him down and he said it was an issue with the bar, but they passed off a Cooks Champagne Brut for the Prosecco. The meal was a little undercooked and we didn't finish and later my wife and I didn't feel well. Don't go here for food or drinks but the ambience isn't bad, it's the best part of the place. I will never return and I would recommend to go anywhere else. It was very expensive also. I never had the lemon for my water, but maybe that was another issue with the bar.
google avatar

Courtney F.

Yelp
5 Stars because I'm a nostalgic queen and I grew up going to one at another location, so this tastes just like my childhood. My dad wants to point out that in California (where I grew up) they serve sourdough bread, which is fantastic, so that was the only complaint. Otherwise, everything was on point. The brown butter pasta, the raviolis, the salads....and the best part, the spunoni. And if you don't get the spumoni ice cream at the end, you're crazy. The service was top notch. Wine was great (this was an added treat that I didn't get as a child). Honestly, Spaghetti Factory, never change. K thanks.

Yelp
We went with the group of eight, we're able to make a reservation over the phone which was very helpful. It was a busy volleyball weekend. The restaurant is beautiful very charming and great atmosphere. Our waitress was wonderful, quick, and very attentive. The food was absolutely delicious.

Chandra S.

Yelp
Our family of five walked to Old Spaghetti Factory after visiting Gateway Arch. From what we could tell, there was only one server there and she was quite busy, so we had to wait a little bit before we could put in our order. The salad, bread and appetizers came fairly quickly. The entrees took a while and 3 of the 4 that we ordered came together and we were about halfway through eating those before the 4th order was finally brought to the table. The food was good. Restaurant and bathrooms were clean.
google avatar

Kristin E.

Yelp
We go to the Spaghetti Factory for our daughter's birthday every year. The service was great and the manager was very accommodating when helping us use a coupon we had and forgot to print off. We'll definitely be back again. Hopefully before next years birthday.

Yelp
I don't venture out to the landing often but I was pleasantly surprised to find that they have a somewhat active scene going again. Right before a hockey game, we went to grab some food. I have never been to the Old spaghetti factory so I was just going along for the ride. So to get to the restaurant, you have to go down a level and then you're greeted by a huge bar with that classic look that screams a completely different era. Very elegant in design, it made me want to dress up and order some fancy cocktail. We were seated on a table inside the train. It was cool, I have to admit. I started with a salad prior to getting the gourmet jumbo crab ravioli. The ranch dressing that came with my salad, I did not particularly care for. It was okay, not the best or most flavorful of ranch dressings. My ravioli was quite good and had good flavors. I think I ate all but one piece. Our waiter was outstanding though! My buddy wanted a shot with red bull and he went and found a red bull even though he told is they generally do not carry them. He was also really quick with his service which was nice, considering we had a hockey game to catch. All in all, I had a fairly good experience coming here. Perhaps I will make my way back again in the near future, dressed up fancy for that bar scene.

Rachel K.

Yelp
I hadn't been to The OSF in probably a decade or more as none where I lived, but I have always craved the pasta with mizithra cheese and browned butter. Finally, being in the right place at the right time, I gave it a go. I was worried it wouldn't love up to my memories. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I would add a photo but I ate it all too quickly . Server, Lala, was great too! Seemed like the host station was running slow today so was a line to be seated. Not only did Lala come up there and help out but she was so friendly and she paced everything well. They give you a lot with your entree, and it's great for the price. That said, the house dressing is good, but the house salad is what you would expect, nothing fancy. Also, I appreciate the ice cream/spumoni dessert that comes with it, but I went with the vanilla ice cream and you could taste the bit of freezer burn around the edge of it. I'm guessing the spumoni is probably more popular and that is less likely with it.

Yelp
Excellent surroundings. Classic old building. Great spaghetti. Family oriented. Paid parking is the only downer.

Lil B.

Yelp
I got the basic chicken pasta, and it was sooo bland that I felt that I should've cooked at home. In fact, they didn't even put chicken in my chicken pasta when I ordered it. It was just a sad night that day.
google avatar

Doc V.

Yelp
Amazing service from our server Dominique!! So kind and professional. Minestrone soup and bread were hot, fresh and homemade. Admittedly we were hesitant to come after reading some mediocre reviews, so we were pleasantly surprised! Definitely coming back next time we visit St. Louis.
google avatar

King B.

Yelp
I was born and raised in St. Louis, and just to share a historical note, my father worked here when he was in high school. So there's a special meaning that the factory possesses to me, from the perspective of family and the perspective of authentic Italian cuisine. No matter what you select on the menu, it's going to be an excellent decision. The kitchen here is just not capable of putting out bad food. Whether you wanna come here for a romantic night out or a large party, the food, the service, and the ambience, will not disappoint you. Every time I come home to visit, it's a must that I eat here !!!
google avatar

Stephen G.

Yelp
Nice people but no one came to wait on us. We gently let the host know and they said "sorry". Good luck!
google avatar

Will S.

Yelp
For specialty spaghetti...it's the place to go! Great atmosphere and family friendly prices.
google avatar

Jayne H.

Yelp
The food was exceptional, as always, but the service is beyond amazing! Darius (not related to Rucker ) was the very best!! Thank you for a wonderful meal and time.

James ..

Yelp
Been a fan of the Old Spaghetti Factory for years but since Covid, the price increases, and no longer offering a drink with the meal I can only give 4 stars.
google avatar

Chelle T.

Yelp
Always delicious. Went right at opening for lunch so pretty empty but the food was amazing and our server was awesome too!!

Yelp
I came here about 11 years ago and fell in love with the Mizithra and brown butter pasta which, I can't find anywhere near where I live, so I wanted I'll definitely get it again but was a little disappointed, it didn't taste as good as I remember it. I found the pasta to be a bit dry so I asked our server showing more brown butter and it did help. Our server was very pleasant and attentive.
