The Best Hotels in Lisbon, From Bairro Alto to Chiado
"For history lovers
Blissfully free from any hills (a rarity in Lisbon), The One Palácio da Anunciada is a peaceful respite from chaos from the minute you step inside, when your luggage is seamlessly whisked away and you’re offered a cold glass of Portuguese sparkling wine. Located two minutes from both Avenida da Liberdade (Lisbon’s most prestigious shopping avenue) and Praça de Rossio, you can explore much of the city without having to take on its steep inclines, which for some is reason enough to book.
Each room has a sumptuous oversized bed, a desk for working, and an array of handy bathroom products ready for guests to use. During our stay, we were in an attic room, which was spacious and even had a separate seating area with a small sofa and chair. I loved the many small touches, from the local ginjinha liqueur and sweet treat left in our room at night to the very practical control panel.
Many elements made the stay feel like stepping back in time: the cave-like hallways outside the spa, where I envisioned past residents taking a stroll, the stained glass windows reflecting light inside, and the many maps found when hotel renovations first began, dating back sometimes hundreds of years, now proudly framed and displayed on the walls. While the rooms and facilities are undoubtedly modern, these small reminders of what Lisbon was helped create a travel story in my mind that will last beyond my trip.

"Thanks to the work of designer Jaime Beriestain and One Hotels, the high-end division of the Spanish chain H10, this former 1533-vintage aristocratic home is now one of Lisbon's hottest hotels. Mixing contemporary minimalist interiors with the palace's ornate architecture, guests are welcomed by the flagship restaurant, Condes de Ericeira, the Boémio Cocktail Lounge, and the O Jardim Wine Bar." - MICHELIN Guide
"Why we love it: A high-design hotel that merges Old World Lisbon with the modern traveler’s needs The Highlights: - Suites that feel more like elegant apartments than hotel rooms - Natural light and intricately restored ceiling art in event spaces - Exceptional spa facilities and products The Review: The second property from H10 offers an oasis amid Lisbon’s bustling city center. Situated on a cobblestone street just off the main avenue, the former palace is a short walk from restaurants, cafes, and Bairro Alto nightlife, yet avoids the clamour that normally comes with such a convenient location. When revamping the hotel interior during construction, designers and architects preserved as much of the original structure as possible while adding sleek modern touches. Case in point: Upon entering the lobby, guests will see a magnificent marble staircase ahead and an understated library with wireframe bookshelves to the right. Event spaces such as the board room feature intricate crown moldings and ceiling art reminiscent of the classical period, plus large windows that flood the rooms with natural light. The suites themselves are designed with comfort and intimacy in mind. Custom hand-painted china decorates the walls, while gentle lighting and soft edges abound in the bedrooms, lending a spa-like feel. The actual spa—stocked with renowned Natura Bisse products—can be found on the perimeter of the hotel’s idyllic courtyard and gardens. Book an appointment for a luxurious massage or facial, or simply soak in the heated pool. Above the indoor pool is an enormous skylight that adds to the motif of natural light throughout the property. Also on the edge of the courtyard is O Jardim Wine Bar, an upscale restaurant that serves contemporary twists on classic Portuguese dishes. Start dinner with white port, then choose your next glass from a long list of Portuguese and French wines, and don’t miss the braised scallops starter, served on a bed of buckwheat with finely diced Serrano ham, caviar, and pea purée."

This hotel is wonderful. From the moment you walk in, everyone is welcoming and friendly. The hotel grounds are beautiful and the location is truly perfect for sightseeing, restaurants, and shopping. The restaurant has the option of sitting inside or outside on the lovely terrace (we did both) and the food is delicious and the service is great. The upper deck pool is modern and well-maintained, with comfortable and luxurious seating/lounging options. The rooms are very pretty and quite spacious for European hotels and have every amenity you can ask for. Truly a spectacualar hotel and we will be returning upon our next trip to Lisbon!

We loved the entire vibe of The One! Gorgeous lobby and art gallery attached to this boutique hotel, not far off of the main Avenue. The staff were very friendly. Beautiful pool and outdoor breakfast area. The room was cosy and the bathroom had a very large shower. Would definitely stay here again!

This hotel left a lasting impression on my wife and I. While the rooms and physical maintenance could use some updates, the service was fantastic. The staff was 100% attentive and caring for all our needs and requests. Ines, the Assistant Hotel Mgr. ensured that we were pleased with everything and we cannot thank her for her assistance in a most professional manner! Fabio and Ricardo front desk and concierge went out of their way to book tours and help with anything and everything.
The hotel breakfast was a standout with so many delicious choices - great for healthy menu items and just about everything we ordered.
The hotel location is right in the center of Lisbon and accessible to almost everything. We were so pleased and would definitely return for another stay in the future.

This is a wonderful hotel with wonderful staff. Our room was so comfortable with a comfy bed (tad soft for me but that’s a personal preference). Pillows were gorgeous. My only observation in the bathroom was the absence of a towel rail for the big towels so that they can dry out. It’s in such a perfect location. Easy to get to all the sites from there. Lots of restaurants nearby and the train station, access to trams and buses and metro. Concierge was helpful and check in and out speedy. There is water still and sparkling everywhere for guests to drink. We ate at the wine bar one evening. My husband had the beef burger and he was so impressed, said it was the best meal of the holiday. I didn’t want anything big and had trouble finding something but they made me a cheese, bread and fruit plate for one which was so kind. They didn’t even charge me for it which so impressed me. That’s 5 star service right there. The garden was so pleasant to sit in in the evening. We used the pool on our last day. We had a cabana all day and dipped in the pool when we got hot. We had breakfast once and it was very nice. All in all a fantastic stay in a fantastic hotel.

Beautiful hotel in a wonderful location. Staff friendly and welcoming at all times. Lots of lovely extras such as chocolate pastries in our room. All the things you would expect of a five star hotel. Our only complaint about our room was that the bathroom was very cramped although the shower room itself was spacious.

The hotel was absolutely beautiful. While I didn’t stay there the bar upstairs was a great scene with a serene fountain and lots of greenery. Emerson took great care of us and was very hospitable towards my family and myself. Overall great place to escape and relax for a drink and some food.

What a lovely hotel. The service in impeccable and the location is fantastic. I love that there are pictures of "before" the renovation all over the hotel. It is also cool to see the buildings around One Palacio that are in disrepair and think about what they will one day be. The rooms are not huge, but they are well appointed and very comfortable. The pillow menu is a nice touch as are the amazingly soft linens. The hotel breakfast is amazing (the homemade yogurt!). The entire staff bends over backwards to make sure you are comfortable. The pool area is gorgeous and the indoor hot water "pool" was a treat on a cold and rainy day.
