Atlanta's Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"When you need a meal that will unglue little eyes from their tablets, hit the hibachi grill at The Orient. With 12 grill stations in the back of the enormous Japanese restaurant in Cumberland, there’s a good chance you can walk in (even on a Friday night). But if there is a wait, your kids can join the swarm of others dropping fish pellets into the koi pond near the entrance. Your kids might even forget to bug you amid the onion volcanoes and shrimp tossing showmanship. The Orient’s solid and reasonably priced surf and turf combos (starting at $30) should motivate the adults to consider replacing a few monthly pizza nights with hibachi." - demarco williams, nina reeder, jacinta howard

The Orient - Review - Cumberland - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"When it’s date night but your babysitter canceled, hit the hibachi grill at The Orient in Cumberland. With 12 grill stations, there’s a good chance you can just walk in (even on a Friday night). But if there is a wait, your kids can join the swarm of others dropping fish pellets into the koi pond near the entrance. And the typical onion volcanoes and shrimp tossing showmanship do enough to unglue little eyes from their tablets. The Orient’s solid and reasonably priced surf and turf combo (starting at $30) can make the adults feel like they might be able to tolerate more date nights with the kids." - Nina Reeder

Another one of my favorite spots to eat! The food and drinks are always top tier; consistently fresh, flavorful, and delicious. The atmosphere adds to the experience, and I love that you can even feed the fish while you’re there. Always a great time!

Google
The food here is pretty good, but the service is spotty. Even though almost the whole restaurant was empty when I got here, because I got here late, I had to wait about 10 minutes before they put me at a table, which is a little nuts. Then once I sat down, it took almost 20 minutes before anybody came over to bring me water even. Once I ordered it was reasonably quick, but that’s probably because they wanted to make sure I got out before they closed. The food was good, I ordered egg foo yong with fried rice and both were good, especially the egg foo young. They were tons of frogs, of at least four different species, calling from a little river behind the restaurant, so it was kind of cool to just hang out for a minute and listen to them. I’m thinking maybe the service would’ve been better earlier. But I still don’t understand why they had me wait for 10 minutes with dozens of tables that were empty and clean. That made absolutely no sense at all.

Google
We started with the crazy crab roll— it was light but flavorful and was prepared quickly and tasted very fresh. Would recommend. As part of our main meal, we ordered tangerine chicken, Szechuan beef, and the vegetable lo main. Everything came out super quickly and was nice and hot by the time we received it. The tangerine chicken was deliciously seasoned, well cooked, and had a bright and citrusy combination of flavors. It was the best dish we had here by far. The lo main was very, very good. It wasn’t greasy and the veggies were cooked well. It was the perfect accompaniment to the rest of our meal. The Szechuan beef was good, but the beef didn’t absorb the sauce completely, so I didn’t enjoy it until I soaked it with the sauce at the bottom. It was overall okay, but I would have rather had more tangerine chicken. Overall, I’d definitely return again. I’m excited to try the many other dishes they have to offer.

Google
We were 7 adults and one infant. We were seated in a wonderful alcove which was perfect for us to visit and have an infant. The food was great. We had Mongolian beef, beef with vegetables, sesame chicken, California roll, seafood platter, soup, edamame, wings and spring rolls. Our server was delightful.

Google
This was my first time at The Orient. There was adequate parking. We made a reservation 25 minutes ahead of time and were seated immediately. The service was incredible and fast. They are really on point with there process here. The experience was fun, entertaining, and full of energy. I got steak and chicken that came with rice and veggies. I would definitely come back.

Google
🤩 So glad we made the U-turn on paces ferry & ended up here!! Customer service was on point and the atmosphere was inviting. They have specials posted on a chalk board as you enter. There was no wait and we sat at a regular table opposed to hibachi. The menu is pretty extensive. I ordered the egg drop soup & Szcheun lo mein and my bf had the house lo mein and braised wings. Everything was sooo tasty & served hot. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. We found our new go to spot when we’re being indecisive.

Google
The Orient exceeded my expectations! The walnut shrimp was absolutely delicious and super tasty. But what really impressed me was the exceptional service - we had a huge group of 22 and the staff handled it like pros, getting every single order correct. They were attentive, friendly, and made sure we had a great experience. Highly recommend The Orient for large groups and great Chinese food!

Google
despicable customer service i will never be back. Ive been several times i dressed down today and ordered to go because i was casual which shouldn't matter. I was treated like a beggar. Ive frequented many restaurants in the neighborhood considering I live down the road and I will NEVER BE BACK. Id rather eat a cup of noodles! Or visit the Perfect Note across the street!! Completely different menu but nonetheless better service!!

Marsha O.

Yelp
Best and freshest sushi in the area. Fried rice dishes are always delicious. If you imbibe on cocktails, the orient blossom is a must. Service is always impeccable. The restaurant always looks/smells clean. Outdoor dining on a beautiful day/night is always relaxing. Definitely one of our favorite spots for lunch/dinner.

Bay B.

Yelp
Andrew M was our server and he was phenomenal. Food came out fast and was delicious. They have a bar where the back opens up to the patio so the atmosphere is incredible night or day. Overall I would recommend for a girls night but it's great for a family meal too.

Yelp
Walked in with my husband for the first time on a weeknight for dinner. I will say parking was a bit difficult so be prepared to potentially look for a spot for a while. There was a very short wait, but we were able to get seated within a couple of minutes. Our server greeted us very quickly and got us started off with waters. He was very kind and attentive throughout the entire experience, which was greatly appreciated. For my starter, I got the wonton soup, followed by a volcano roll and the fried beef with peppers as my entrée. All of the food came out with rapid speed and was absolutely delicious! I particularly loved how fresh the sushi tasted and how unbelievably crispy beef was that they had in my main course. I think the portions are very fair for the price as well. We can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Millie C.

Yelp
Came for lunch, there was a short wait but still pretty fast service. I got the Bento box. Came with fried rice, miso soup, tempura, beef teriyaki, small salad and 4 pieces of California roll. The California roll but slim and not packed with much crab meat. The beef teriyaki was okay, a little dry in my opinion. The tempura was good tho, it was fried well and came with a nice dipping sauce. I also enjoyed the miso soup and salad. The fried rice was okay, a little salty but still pretty flavorful. This was a good deal since it came with so many items but quality could be improved.

Yelp
This place is such a staple in our friend group. The food is always delicious and the cocktails on point. Today was a wind down day with my friends so we sat on the patio with some sangrias, Palomas & lychee martinis. We ordered a chicken fried rice and Jessica albacore roll (tuna is not my fav in sushi) and it was better than I expected. Our server was very attentive and charismatic - he kept us entertained all evening. The vibe is always inviting, clean and friendly. Everybody seems to go with the flow (and it's a nice flow) so it's not so rigid
google avatar

Melissa H.

Yelp
As always excellent food. And quite possibly the best egg rolls in the area. Light and crispy!!! Great service and the music was perfect for the meal. Not too loud and great variety of genres. Just come by and if you have any wait (not that we ever have) there is a great koi pond that you can enjoy- and feed the fish.

Vic D.

Yelp
Over $20 for a carry out of General Tso's with no utensils or napkins. They did have it ready extremely fast though. Too bad I have nothing to eat it with except my fingers. Asked for receipt, but received only a ticket showing what was ordered.
google avatar

A G.

Yelp
The food was delicious!! Definitely worth the drive. I had the wonton soup and the crunchy wrap soy roll I believe was the name. Great presentation. Our server was super sweet the entire time. Will definitely be back here!
google avatar

Sandy L.

Yelp
Omg! The sushi was so good and fresh! The hot and sour soup wasn't heavy on the pepper and was just perfect. I sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive and great. The inside is beautiful and such a vibe. I'd definitely come back
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
The ambiance is horrible. The food was way too salty. The miso soup tastes like chicken bouillon. The bar is a joke. How do you mess up a vodka martini? I couldn't drink it. The sushi came out at like same time as our hibachi. I told them to put it in a to go container and she used her ungloved hands and then tried to hand it to me without asking if I wanted it to be refrigerated while we ate. My steak was salty and overcooked and my scallops were flabby and undercooked. They appeared to have been soaked to plump then but instead they were flabby. Very ghetto food and service. I won't be back even though my card was reimbursed. They need to improve or close.
google avatar

Nathaniel G.

Yelp
Immediately upon entering I was greeted warmly and brought to my table. The restaurant was clean and the staff was so friendly. I had the Super Crunch roll, wonton soup, and Thai Iced Tea. It was delicious, I loved the tea, it was so good. Everything was delicious. My only complaint was that where I was sitting I could smell cigarette smoke wafting into the building and it was giving me a headache, but other than that my experience was great, I will be coming back!
google avatar

Kirk B.

Yelp
My wife and daughter had dined here previously and recommended it, so when we had to be in Marietta again wife and I came for a weekend lunch. I ordered the aki mora sushi plate while she had the lobster tempura roll. Mine was fine, but not exceptional (having had omakase in Japan spoils you for US sushi most of the time). Wife enjoyed her roll, which was very large, and took half of it home. I tried a piece but it's not to my taste. Weekend prices are higher as there is no lunch menu. She had hot tea with her meal while I drank water. Bill with tax and tip was $97, which I considered high. The building is modern, and there is a hibachi on the far side of the sushi bar.
google avatar

Zaina G.

Yelp
Food: Sushi wasn't bad, but wasn't great. The miso soup and egg drop soup were good. The fried rice wasn't that good. Service: Just okay, we felt like we were being rushed out even though the restaurant was empty. The water just dropped off our check without asking if we wanted dessert or anything - it was weird

Atlanta A.

Yelp
The vegetable spring roll was average and the California roll was subpar. I guess I could have ordered less basic menu items, but if they can't get these down I don't expect much better. The service was terrible. Maybe it's because it's the weekend, but the staff didn't look happy to be there. The ambience inside the restaurant is nice, but looks alone doesn't do it for me. I won't be back

Yelp
Good food and awesome location on main Powers Ferry - Wildwood area with plenty of parking space. We were party of 10 so they reserved a room for us which was private with two assigned waiters and service was very good. Excellent food, everyone liked their dishes. Food was plenty and yummy, Egg rolls were decent as appetizer. Teriyaki Chicken and Cashew chicken dishes were amazing and good quantity but my favorite was Bento Box !!! The assorted sushi and salad and chicken.
google avatar

Aditi D.

Yelp
Service was great. Food was not. The mango tofu tasted like sugar syrup. The hunan tofu tasted like pure soy sauce, and the teriyaki tofu appetizer was overly breaded and fried (again, minimal flavor). Even the chilli oil was extremely tasteless. Only giving 4 stars for the excellent service and vegan options. But those vegan options need to taste good!

Donna S.

Yelp
BEST IN Atlanta!!! Great service. Food is fantastic. Moo Shu is great. Try the lychee martini. Ask for Andrew M for a server. He is just wonderful and makes it a great experience!!!!!
google avatar

Morganne M.

Yelp
Very solid sushi choice! We sat on the patio which had a very lovely koi pond along with a pellet machine to feed the fish! The interior looked very cute too. We split edamame which was decent. For entree, I got the Crispy Soy Roll which was amazing!! Great quality and flavor. My friend got the tofu appetizer and hibachi rice. The portions were huge! We also did ginger side salads and they were the biggest side salads I have ever gotten. You definitely get bang for your buck with everything. To drink I got wine and she did the sangria. It was too sweet for my liking but perfect for her. Service was admittedly a bit slow and there were some errors, but everyone was very kind, especially the front desk hostesses who offered us some change to feed the koi fish! Overall this is a great option especially if you're looking for sushi.
google avatar

Erin H.

Yelp
The staff was horrible. Specifically the bar manager. It was obvious the ownership has no idea what their staff is doing. I'd rank this location as a never again! Food was sub-par and the drinks were horrible. I would advise you to not waste your money at this establishment. I really tried with this location because a friend dragged me there. Worst money I ever spent. I hope they save it but there will never get another dollar from me or anyone I know.

Yelp
Wow... this place used to be great, would love to dine with friends and family. Just ordered a volcano roll (if you can call it that?). It came out so covered in a heap of mayo and eel sauce it was inedible, we didn't have a single roll, and just moved pieces around to find the roll. We asked if we could send it back because the sushi was swimming in this crazy concoction of sauces that I wouldn't feed my worst enemy. I get it, cover your sushi with sauce so the lack of freshness is covered, but don't use your entire weeks worth of mayo to do so... What makes it worse is how unreasonable the manager was when we asked if we could send it back or exchange. (Maybe even just rinse it off out back with a hose?) Won't be back, which is sad. Happy Mother's Day to us.

Yelp
Very nice meal and works well for a large group of people. The menu has a variety of items from sushi to sashimi to Chinese entrees to Japanese ones. This meant something for everyone. I started with the veggie soup and it was very good and then had the sashimi and it was fresh and tasty and presented well too. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well. Definitely not inexpensive but it was good and I would go back.

Yelp
This place never disappoints. I'm my favorite Hibachi restaurant in the city. This time I doubled my meal to add protein to every bite and it did not disappoint. I'm server was great and the chef cooked everything to perfection.
google avatar

Justin O'Keith H.

Yelp
Yes yes and more yes. I was in town for business and decided to try the Orient. It was next door to my hotel and had great reviews. It didn't disappoint. Started off slow with the host getting me to my table and getting served. But my server and the food runner were amazing. The sushi roll I had was amazing. The sweet and sour chicken was great. The drinks were legit. Worth every penny. Would go back. Enjoyed my experience there.
google avatar

Roya A.

Yelp
The hostess was so rude and dismissive! She asked if she could help me and I smiled and said thank you but my sister in law already put our name down. At which point she started a diatribe of how busy they are and if I could be patient and sit and just wait for our table because she was doing the best she could! I was shocked and asked her what she was talking about. I literally hadn't uttered a word! So extremely rude!
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
I came here for a lunch and was immediately seated. The menu is vast and they also offer a lunch menu. I decided to order the Crouching Dragon Roll ($17) along with a lychee martini (subbed vodka for tequila). The roll was absolutely delicious. I requested some spicy mayo. The roll was a good portion, fresh, and delicious. It came with shrimp, crab meat, eel, and avocado. The lychee martini was very refreshing. I will definitely be back again.
google avatar

Kareatha G.

Yelp
The food was great, our waiter Q. was very professional and a nice young man. Atmosphere casual and comfortable. I will definitely go back. Kasey G.

Yelp
Came in last night at 8:45 the hostess proceeded to not greet me or my date as she took over 5 minutes to take a to go order as we waited minutes to be seated. We then were told the patio was closed even tho several people were sitting outside. Then we were sat next to another table with 4 guest who had been served. We waited over 15 minutes never got greeted or even offered a drink. We got up and left after the hostess walked by us not offering any help or even asking if we had been served. We were treated terrible won't be back.
google avatar

Brenda R.

Yelp
Amazing!!! Great food, great service. Fresh, modern decor made for a nice ambiance. The restaurant was very clean.
google avatar

Kien H.

Yelp
So the restaurant is actually really nice, tucked away but it is in a really nice area. It's super big on the inside, full bar and everything. When you come up to the door somebody will reach right away. They have some music playing on the outside and on the inside, and there's a little nice pond at the door. Visibly it looks like a very beautiful spot. It has inside and outside seating, so if it's a nice day, you will get the option. The cool part about it was the inside and outside both had the same bar so you could be outside and still have the same bartenders as the inside. Again, there's a full bar, which is a pretty large bar top area. If you look straight ahead you will see though sushi area with a cut up the sushi and prepare it for you. You can come in early as you want they'll still be working so I think that's really cool to let you know it's going to be fresh. California roll was pretty good. The Tonkotsu ramen soup was decent too, it needed some extra flavor so I had them bring some chili oil for taste. The Gyoza was really good though, I wanted more lol. They had an appropriate amount of flavor and pan fried goodness. Overall I would recommend!
google avatar

Chaya D.

Yelp
This restaurant is pretty average. The service could be better. As far as food goes, it's an average from taste and presentation standpoint. The place has basic decor.
google avatar

Sunn G.

Yelp
The service is Awesome. Thank you Megan. My husband had the General Tso Tofu (he is vegetarian). I ordered the Snowball Sushi, it has a slight fragrance of flowers with a hint of spicy. Our daughter had the Berry Happy Sushi, beautiful to look at and she loved it.
google avatar

Larry G.

Yelp
I cannot be more disappointed in my family's treatment by this business today. We placed an order for pickup through an online service three hours early for 4:40-5 pm (early as some people needed to leave before it got too dark) and were told to arrive for pickup at 4:50, which we did. I waited quietly inside for 10 minutes before the staff member -- who had made a few trips back to check -- came back and told me that it was going to be a long wait if I wanted to stay instead of coming back later (in which case I would have had no way of knowing when to come back as the app said food would be ready at 4:50). When I asked how long I was told that they hadn't even started working on my order yet. There was no apology at all, there was no timeframe given, nothing, and after checking with the people waiting outside in the car I came back in and asked how to cancel and was told to contact the app. Let's be clear here, The Orient failed to even have begun working on my order that was requested hours earlier and they had confirmed well in advance and then was close to rude about it -- no apology at all. Things happen and I can live with a mistake. Their unwillingness to even say they were sorry makes my family a former customer.

Yelp
I only had the hibachi. Good quality and fun cook. Nice cocktails, and wine selection. Service was great and attentive. The place is split in regular sit down area and hibachi area. Nice clean and well maintained. Bar with inside and outside seating and out side dining. Little pond with colorful carps. A place for family, date night and fun delicious hibachi dinners.
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
We popped into The Orient on a Thursday afternoon and practically had the whole place to ourselves. It's casual, spacious spot. The menu offered Chinese, Thai, sushi and hibachi. We chose some standard Chinese dishes. I ordered light - wonton soup and a spring roll (they come two to an order). My husband ordered the cashew chicken. The egg rolls were a little dry (see pic!). Even though the restaurant was practically empty, our server was hard to find. We had to wait too long for refills and our check.
google avatar

Bill A.

Yelp
Very good meal and service. We had a group so we ordered 5 rolls, sashimi and drinks. I went with the Boozy Kubuki Sangria. My friend described it as a long island sangria. That is close and it was great, the wine was infused with vodka, 2 different liqueurs and fruit. The rolls were also very good. We ordered the atom bomb, crunch dragon, super crunch, new spider and love me tender (it had wagyu). The wagyu was just ok, the others were very good. The akami sashimi was also excellent. All in all a great meal with good service and atmosphere.
google avatar

Jasmine M.

Yelp
This is my go to sushi spot, dine in or door dashing the food is still good. The fried rice is flavorful and rolls are fresh. I love sitting outside with the bar outside for the scenery. Service is great as well.
google avatar

Priscilla B.

Yelp
I am so glad i rely on Yelp when i need help trying to find somewhere good to eat ! I came here last week to meet a friend and i loved it. Service and food were great! Lunch was very busy yet they maintained everything very organized! The bathrooms were super clean as well which is always a must for ladies! I would definitely recommend this place !
google avatar

Kemsey M.

Yelp
The Orient does a lot but don't let that scare you! They do it well! This restaurant is down the road from my house so I've been here a ton of times and never been disappointed. The one thing I didn't like was the ramen. Their sushi rolls are always great. My husband is OBSESSED with their steamed dumplings. We've always had great service and never had to wait to be seated even on the weekend. There are multiple sections to the restaurant, the sushi bar, hibachi grills, regular seating, bar area, and a patio.
google avatar

Ashley-Nicole L.

Yelp
Food is ALWAYS good! Love this place! Next time you go try the Orient Tray! Great atmosphere and friendly staff
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
We come here at least once a month. I always get the sushi and my favorite rolls are the Foxy Lady (cucumber roll) and the Jessica Albacore. They are delicious, give them a try!
google avatar

Arianna B.

Yelp
We had a party of 5, last minute reservation, Saturday at peak business hours. Even with our late arrival, we were accommodated and sat quickly. The food was wonderful. Large portion sizes so expect leftovers! I definitely recommend the general tso's or fried rice. The one issue we experienced was service. We had a very friendly and helpful server. However, our food took a while to arrive, and didn't all come out at the same time. We received half the tables order roughly 10 minutes after everyone started getting their food delivered.
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
It is a very nice place to dine. The ambiance is really nice. Our server was really good, too. When we finished eating, one of the hosts even stepped outside for a second to take a small group picture. The food was good but I have had better. It might have just been me since my friends seemed to enjoy their entrees. Overall, it was a very nice experience.

De N.

Yelp
I'm a regular patron of The Orient. Geo & Sam (Samatha) are the best bartenders! They are amazing at making custom drinks as well as what's on the menu. Tim is a great manager and always there to jump in to keep things moving. They are all great at making food selections. The Lobster Tempura Roll is my favorite and a must try. The Singapore Noodles, spring rolls, Mu Shu Vegetables are great. The Hamachi Kama is the best in town.
google avatar

Mikequita H.

Yelp
Love this place. The train is a nice touch. Huge portions so wear those stretchy pants. Great service and attention to details. They have two sides and menus to choose from. Love the setup of this quaint little spot. We go time and time again.

Joe B.

Yelp
Just moved into this area and looking for a Chinese restaurant that has great General Tso. This is not it. Ordered to go, meal was $19.08 without tip and was made with the same low quality, dark meat, frozen breaded chicken you can find at any strip mall Chinese spot for $11. The broccoli was low in quantity, didn't feel fresh when chewed, and a bit over cooked. Sauce had an average flavor but was not spicy despite ordering extra spicy. I saw other great reviews so maybe stick to sushi or hibatchi but I won't be back. At this price point I have had meals made with hand cut and breaded chicken breast and plenty of fresh crisp broccoli. Best of luck. P.S. the fortune cookie was so stale, it could not be eaten.
google avatar

Rudy B.

Yelp
I have frequented this establish for a number of years now and have found them to be very accommodating food is great especially the lobster roll and drinks or wine pours are above par! I have seen staff changes over the years as to be expected but Geo, and Sam with the pig tales are the best friendly and do a great job and the mgr Tim is a great a must experience

Michele J.

Yelp
We went here for the hibachi on Mother's Day and it was very good. The food was good and the service was excellent. We only had four people so we couldn't make a reservation, but it was no problem. We got right in. We will be going here again very soon.

L B.

Yelp
Great environment, service and food. I was in the area for a week on business and it was across the street from my hotel, very convenient. I went there twice and both times the service was good, along with the food.

Official A.

Yelp
Wow, what an amazing experience at The Orient--if you enjoy watching everyone else eat while you sit there wondering if your food went on a world tour. By the time my meal finally arrived, everyone else was done, full, and ready to leave. The best part? Not a single word from the staff. No update, no apology--just pure mystery. It's like they were running a surprise game of "Guess if you'll eat today." If you're into cold dinners and silence, this place is a dream.
