The Original Chubby's Denver

This place deserves 5 Stars simply because the food is THE BEST EVER!! ❣️☺️ It's my favorite and has been for over two decades. I especially love the Mexican Hamburger, smothered with Chicharron on top, highly recommend! The service is fast and the people that work there are sweet and generous. Love love love!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Food was absolutely delicious. I got the double cheeseburger and it was so good and fresh and chili cheese fries, the fries were amazing. The only issue was they were really busy amd was a long wait for the food and the parking lot was full and we had to park in the neighborhood but I would say this place was worth it. We would recommend coming and trying this place, next time we're in Denver we will be back here again for more delicious food.

I can’t believe all the reviews. I have read, especially about staff and that stink face they greet you with sometimes. Very rare there is one female who does not greet you like the rest of them. Shorter girl looks younger than the other two that are always there. They always give you different amounts of meat when you ask for it on your fries Something is always off and different. Never the same. This day that I was there last this individual didn’t have to wait in line at all, went straight ahead of the line and they helped him even though there was a line seems to be related to the owners in someway shape or form I believe someone said grandson or something. He took a group of friends to feed as well. As far as I know he did not pay at all. He was handed his stuff for free when I’m sure he’s only supposed to get something for himself for free. I can’t remember what name they called him by, but to see that in front of ussucks because we had been waiting a good minute for our food as numbers also get called weirdly I understand some orders are smaller than others, but still off everyone for us and after us was gone already and then this happens. And yet this individual got up a few times to keep coming back for more food, even if there was a line. I’m happy for him that he gets free meals especially if he his family but wow to take the biker buddies to eat too on the house is a little much. I forgot to mention the lady at the counter purchasing had been in our shoes, waiting on her food forever and the grandson just keeps coming up, asking for stuff and they just hand it to him in front of her. You could see her frustration too.

Checked out the original Chubby’s Diner in Denver. I ordered the original beef hamburger dipped in chili (I think that’s what it’s called) food was alright, nothing special, but worth trying at least once. Ambience isn’t great, but it’s a classic local spot with some character. Glad I visited.

The parking situation was a little confusing and I ended up getting blocked in for 15 minutes because the police had a car stopped in the parking lot. The burrito was OK- it was sort of bland because I didn't get the chile in it. There wasn't a lot of bacon, it was mainly potatoes and egg. Tables were all sticky and the soda flavors were watered down.

Visiting for the weekend and found this place near where I am staying. Customer service was decent, no complaints there. The dining area was very disgusting, tables were not wiped down. There were stains, napkins, pieces of food on every table that was open. I had to ask one of the ladies to wipe the table and would have thought she would wipe the rest of the tables since it was starting to get busy but it was wishful thinking. Food quality was TERRIBLE. I was excited to try the steak torta, and it tasted disgusting. The steak itself tasted like it was made yesterday or even longer, the meat was very dry with a very odd taste that made me lose my appetite. Would not recommend coming here, even if you see the parking lot full or if it looks busy.

Got a chicharon burrito and I asked them if I could get more because it looked skimpy and the rude short chunky lady with long blonde hair gave me attitude after another customer was complaining about the same thing she told me it had enough chicharon it just looked skimpy cause of the chili well this is how much chicharon they gave me mind you they charged the $3. This is crazy I know for a fact when the old smaller chubbys was standing they hooked it up that’s why people would go now you guys are just ripping people off

The green chile on the burrito was delicious! The cheeseburger was pretty good. I liked the cheese fries and the taco, too, but I'll definitely get the green chile on everything next time.

Love Chubbys! I do kinda miss the tiny standing room only building. I really wish the beans were the same as they were before the new building. They used to be so good! Everything else is the same and delicious!

The place has lost its charm, and the food quality has significantly declined. I ordered the steak burrito special, which used to be a favorite, but this time it was disappointing. They added beans, making it mushy, and it was excessively salty. I regretted not ordering the smothered fries, a reliable choice from past visits. My boyfriend opted for the jumbo hot dog with ketchup and mustard, but they inexplicably topped it with nacho cheese, which didn't work at all. Perhaps we visited on an off day, but overall, the experience was thoroughly disappointing.

Chili cheese fries with chicharrones?! Something that I never realized that I needed to try. My friend took me here for my first time as she couldn't believe that I've never had Chubby's before. It's not the cleanest or cutest inside, but I could care less about how a place looks as long as the food tastes good! Service was a little slow, but still fast for how many people were waiting for their orders. I appreciate that the fries were actually spicy and the the chicharrones were crunchy and so yummy. I could feel heartburn forming as I was eating but sometimes good food just does that to you. Definitely want to go here again and try something new!

Every time I visit my home town from Florida this is the spot I make a stop at! Their chili cheese fries are POPPIN'

The food here is absolutely amazing. I love the spice and flavor in everything they make here. The place is family owned with a lot of love and history behind this business. There were a ton of people here and always is - for good reason - it's got the best food! The lines go quickly though and because their food and homemade deliciousness you don't mind waiting a little bit for fantastic food. Ryan and ate our burritos on our walk to the light rail and sadly didn't get any photos of the food on this visit. But we will be back soon enough and I'll remember to take plenty of photos showing you this amazing goodness that they have here!

Great spicy Mexican food with a big menu to choose from, and the staff on the weekend night shift are amazing people with great customer service.

Hard to understand why only 2 1/2 star average rating for Chubby's. Terrific, original Mexican food and burgers. Always busy and for a reason, friendly service, great menu. I had the chile relleno burrito, smothered with delicious green chile. Loved it!

Easily the worst meal I've had in Denver. A complete waste of $40, neither I nor my brother had more than a second bite.

The service was horrible, I ordered two deluxe burritos and ended up not having tomato or lettuce when I opened my food. There was black beard hairs all over my burrito and mixed in my smothered fries. Will not be coming in here again it's a waste of money.

This place used to be a Taco Bell..Their hard shell taco was less to be desired. Kid was rude when I asked him why it's a hard shell taco, and he said "you didn't t ask for one!" Ok so the taco shell was so delicate, that it fell apart when I pulled it out of the envelope paper bag. Filled with dried ground beef, shredded American cheese, and iceberg lettuce. Threw it away. I haven't been here in years. But I had to get this since Santiago's was closed the day I flew into Denver and I needed my green chile fix before heading into the mountains to visit family. I do not recommend attempting to eat these while driving. I was wearing a lot of it by the time I got home lol. But I highly recommend eating the smothered green chili fries in basically any other situation! I got them with steak but honestly I think they would have been just as delicious with just the fries, chili, and queso. Service was fast, store was clean. Def great drunk food too.

This is my hubby's preference for grab and go Mexican food. It's just okay to me though, but it's consistent. As much as I love a beef and bean burrito, I have to be mindful of how I order one from here because it's like they pile on a bowl of beans and a spoon of beef. But their chicharones are delicious!

Everything about this restaurant was spectacular! The weight staff suggested the best breakfast burrito I could've asked for! Everything was amazingly great! I got a huge breakfast burrito and I won't have to eat for the rest of the day! The restaurant was immaculate it was so clean!I would highly recommend this for the best best burrito for breakfast in Denver!

This was our last smothered burrito place for out trip. They have late hours but unfortunately when we went it was takeout only. They had closed three dining room area and even turned off the lights. They were still very busy and had a lot of people waiting for their food. The prices were also really fair and despite that bad reviews, the wait to get our food wasn't even that long. These ladies are aggressive here, and definitely not the friendliest, but they're not rude either. The burrito was really good and had some heat. It was also a little high on the sodium level, and a bit too much at times, but I couldn't stop eating it. The burrito was also very filling and the steak was tender and flavorful. I will definitely be returning.

I was shocked to see that this restaurant only has 2 1/2 stars! Whenever I go to Chubby's the food is tasty and the service is good. I've only eaten at the Chubby's in Aurora. It has been said that food prices are going down, but so many restaurants continue to charge outrageous prices! Other restaurants charge you $20 or more for lunch entrées, dinner options can be $30 and up. I appreciate the fact that Chubby's prices have stayed very reasonable. Thank you Chubby's!

Meh, I tried to call in a "to-go" order, just for them to tell me to "let us know when your in the building" When I arrived to when I paid for my "to-go" order it was 45 mins, granted it was dinner time. Guess the "to-go" function is broken here .

I received a door dash order called the restaurant to see what they can help me with. The lady was rude and degrading. I was told next time i should go pick up my order. Im from out of town and i ate here in the past it was great then . The burger my girlfriend order was dry and no flavor and burnt. I am really disappointed im the service and quality of food . We waited over 45 minutes for our food. Turns out our order didn't go through. We were order 225 and they were already order 256. They apologized for their mistake by offering us a free fountain drink that we declined because we had already bought fountain drinks with the order we placed at the register. When we were leaving the same thing happened to another customer. They lack customer service and the food is mid. It was my first time here, I can officially say it's over hyped.

I've yet to go to chubbys and have a positive experience. if you like sloop and slop, mixed with a bit of green chile and mushy tortilla, or if you want the driest burgers of your life I emplome you to visit! Located at the crust of 38th & Lipan, Chubbys has never failed to not be a shit show. I have never understood the appeal to this place anyways, and once the new management came around it's clear shit took a left turn.

I literally had a woman and a man working last night talking shit towards me before I even left the restaurant. They did it right in front of me basically called me a liar and didn't hesitate to do it right in front of me. I've been coming to chubbys for over 40 years. I won't be returning. I was in last year as well and that time I waited over 2 hours for my food and I actually pulled out my phone and recorded the woman as she just ignored me standing there. Your staff are very rude.

Former Denver resident here. It's been 6 years since I ate here, was a regular. They haven't missed a beat. Same hot, gloppy nuclear green chile, same crispy chicharrones, same lardy beans. My smothered burrito was a delightful gut bomb. I ordered a pint of the green chile to go to dump on my homemade breakfast burritos. The OG lives on.

Terrible fucking customer service went there late night was waiting 20 min before someone actually paid attention to me to take my order . Waiting two more fucking hours to find out they already called my number never once did I hear them call my number I asked the lady with pig tails how much longer she said we didn't call your number and when I asked 15 min later the old lady said we already called it like could you guys not see I was waiting for two hours and you all kept taking orders and giving other customers their food 5 min after they had already placed an order . What a fucking waste of my time the food was very cold and they didn't do shit to fix that either definitely do NOT RECOMMEND.

We were looking for a snack at 10:00 at night and everything else was closed. We had smothered fries and ice cream. We ordered onion rings too, but we didn't get them. It was really busy so we decided it wasn't worthwhile to go back up to the counter and say something. We just shared. The smothered fries were extremely spicy. It reminds me of a cross between a late night Dairy Queen and a taco stand, with a lot of flavor. 5 stars for fast service, cleanliness, and a fun menu.

My husband grew up in sunny side, and we have been coming to chubbys for over 15 years, since before the remodel when it was just a counter to order at. We always get chili cheese fries or smothered burritos, but lately the green Chile has been so spicy that we can't even eat it. I'm leaving this review just as feedback, because we love chubbys. We used to come here all the time, but we never know when we're going to get a batch of green Chile that is so hot it literally hurts to eat, so we come a lot less often now. Maybe there can be an option for either medium or hot chile?

Had dinner tonight, good as always, but long wait for pickup and my wife thought the chili was so hot, she couldn't eat her burrito. I thought it wasn't hot enough! Chubbys is a Denver institution!

Couple items in my order missing when I ordered online. Driver said call the restaurant. Restaurant lady said talk to the driver or go online and figure it out. Then hangs up. I called back she whispered No refunds tough luck. If I could leave 0.0001 stars I would.

This place is whack. The lady charged me $4 for a small lame cup of rice. When I got my order, I asked the manager to refund it and take it back because it was so tiny and you can literally get a cheeseburger for cheaper. She tried to refuse and was a total snatch about it. Telling me it's my fault and that she won't refund it. I pointed out the sign that states you're eligible for a refund on the same day before you leave the store. She was hesitant but did the refund and gave me attitude the entire time. She also didn't give me a full refund for the item (didn't refund the tax) She is literal trash. Goodbye

My daughters and I were in Denver for a softball tournament and we had the chance to try a few places. This place was busy and kind of confusing. There are people everywhere, some were in line waiting to order, some were waiting for their online order, some were waiting for their food. I ordered a taco and the chili cheese fries. The chili is good. It definitely has a little heat to it. But for me, it kind of drowns the fries. They are shoestring fries so my first few bites I was excited because it was pretty damn tasty...then I was over it pretty quickly. Good...but I couldn't finish all of it. The parking lot is also very busy. So plan accordingly.

I just want to start off with its really sad to see this business go down hill the way it has. I used to absolutely love it here. Now the staff is rude. The wait times are too long. And the general vibe has shifted. I came in on a Thursday night about an hour before close, and if I hadn't already paid for my food I would have left. I ordered the smothered fries & I waited over 20 min. Im sure they just never made my order, because when the women who took my order noticed I was still waiting, she asked to see my receipt then went to the back. Within the next three minutes my order had appeared. I wasn't offered an explanation or an apology - which who cares - but it was definitely annoying. Waiting 20+ minutes for an order of only one item is ridiculous in a fast food environment like this one. I will not be back.

I will absolutely always love there food. Every time I go (don't recommend weekends), then chili cheese fries hit the spot!!!!

We've been coming to chubbys for years and it's the best smothered burrito I've ever had, chubbys never disappoints!

I Was a regular at Chubby's until Sunday 3/24/25. I took my mom and brother to eat at the Chubby's on 73rd and Federal. Ordered and waited, was slightly busy, got my food and it was short one meal and also one meal was not what i ordered. I was told that they didn't have two items I ordered even though i was not told at time of ordering and still charged. The girl i spoke to was rude, short and unprofessional. She said they couldn't refund It. They put my moms and brothers food on the same plate. One of the items she claimed was out was given to a customer who sat next to us to eat as we were finished eating. I called next morning and spoke to a nice girl named Angel who said she would have the Manager/ HR call me. Still no call back a day later. I will not be going back to that location. The tables and floors were dirty, food was so dry, that place has gotten so bad, and the staff so disorganized, rude and unprofessional. Georgia

Don't know why they have online ordering it gives you a time and still delayed me 30 mins when I arrived at the time to pick it up it was 30 mins later I got my dry burrito.. asked for delux no tomatoes no lettuce nothing... barley any chili what a let down... guess I'll stick with quality rio from this point forward.

Great food and decent prices given the current economic inflation conditions. While sitting for a few minutes waiting for our to go order, it's clear that it's a family run business which creates a warm, friendly environment. They also gave my wife her burrito for free because it was her birthday. Probably the only mild disappointment I had would be with the confusing SpotOn app they use for ordering. The app isn't set up intuitively to build a burrito by adding ingredients. After ordering inside the restaurant I now understand they have developed burrito types (plain, chili , special, smothered and deluxe) which are modifications of the basic burritos (bean, beef, chicken, etc) but it's not clear what each of those types contain. Safest way to get your order right is to go inside the first time and then after you have your burrito then ask them what to order in the app to get the same burrito.

I don't get how this place has so many good reviews. We stumbled upon this bc during COVID, this was the only place that was open past 10pm. The food was mediocre, cheap ingredients, and the sauce for the fries were not yummy.

So good for so many years. Heart stopping grease with lots of spice. Their green chile is the gold standard for Denver style. Chili fries. Bean and chicharones Burrito. Damn.

The food was a 3/10 bland and steak was over cooked no love in the food at all. Service was absolute sh*+ lady who speaks Spanish and has the messy makeup was very rude, so sad to see a place with so much potential and these are the faces you have to deal with... will not be coming back!

I am very disappointed how the customer service has really gone down hill! My family has been coming here for years ! The cashiers are extremely rude! So rude to the point I don't even want to bother going here anymore! They answer the phone as if they don't even want to be at work! They would even at times hang up on you and when you want to order over the phone they complain about it! This is the Real Original Chubby's and it's a shame that this is how it is now !

Not worth a $21.44 for an egg/chorizo/cheese breakfast burrito. Side of small green chili. **Uber eats order -, 3.00 tip, plus Chubbys fee and $10.00 burrito. Burrito was messy, mostly dry spongy eggs, little chorizo crumbles (dry) and tortilla broke apart easy. Chubby's - you've been around too long to start dropping quality for demand. Sorry, maybe next time.

The bomb for my entire life!! Been coming here since I was a kid.. I live far away now and only get it a few times a year when I visit.. hits everytime.. a sacred piece of my life..

Honestly haven't been here in forever and was dying for a late night snack. I asked for my order to be extra spicy and they nailed it. For a late night spot I am shocked at the quality level and kindness. Will be back!

Chubby's wasn't our first choice for food when we went, and it didn't end up being one of my favorite places i've ever eaten. The staff was friendly and i got a compliment on my shirt by a fellow customer so that was fun. The food was... edible. that's all i can really say to categorize it. can't say i'm in a huge hurry to go back but it was worth it for the humor provided, 3 stars for the comedy.

I was genuinely worried about what we were getting ourselves into when we decided to try Chubby's for the first time. But I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the food! First thing's first: they're super serious about COVID which is great but just be aware they won't let you go into the restaurant with another person at the same time (I had to wait outside while my boyfriend went inside) and they only allow 5 people inside at one time. For food, we got the smothered fries - which were honestly very tasty - and the special steak burrito which is basically all steak and a little bit of cheese + chile - no rice, beans or filling. Crazy how much meat was in there! Not the best quality food but it was tasty for sure! We probably won't go out of our way to come here again, but if we're in the area, we'd go back!
