Google
I kept seeing good food reviews for breakfast at The Original Dinerant. I'm only here in Portland for a few days so I am picky about where I eat. Not only is the menu completely different and smaller than other reviews show but I found it severely lacking. Whatever rave reviews this place had can no longer be related for what is now The Social Spoon. The single employee I saw doing everything was fantastic, nice and respectful. He was attentive to all the guests and was knowledgeable. The food was presented very well! Thought it was standard. I've no complaints about the food except for the diminished menu almost had me walk out. As for the atmosphere, do not expect an arcade. When the Original Dinerant left they took everything with them. It is a shell of its former self if other reviews are to be believed. Very disappointed. Very deceiving.

Google
BEST FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD! I am so glad I let my husband talk me into trying it! The waitress was kind and helpful, the food was insane! My husband loved his chicken and jalapeno waffles and my chicken fried steak was HEAVEN! It was a real steak with red in the middle, so darn good!

We came here for breakfast at 3PM. First timers to the area, not familiar with which places serve breakfast all day. Gave these guys a go and we were delighted. The special milkshake of the day was vanilla with pretzels and caramel. It’s hand dipped and comes with the extra milkshake served on the side - basically a full second milkshake!! Perfect for sharing. I got the veggie burger with avocado and a side of tomato soup. The veggie patty had full peas and bits of carrots and spinach, so good. Matt got the Breakfast Lager that came with sausage, bacon, eggs and hash browns. The sausage wasn’t the best, lacking in flavor or something. The peppermint tea was incredible. Loose leaf in a bag, Steven Smith Teamaker, a local brand. Thank you for being a spotless restaurant. So clean. Every corner was dust free and nothing was sticky or greasy. Even the hot sauce bottles looked new!

Google
This isn't the original dinerant anymore which is closed, but the place here had remarkably good good on a relatively short menu. I think there were 10 or 15 meal options. The "hash" I had was outstanding, though I think it was more of like. Grilled potato cubes, meat, and veggies with an egg on top. Notably I did show up hopeful for a donut burger, but that was a Dinerant thing. It'd be nice if they'd report Dinerant closed, and change the name and menu listed!

Google
Great atmosphere and awesome people. I got a burger and a milkshake, but not just any ordinary milkshake, a Salty Jim bourbon milkshake. That changed the way I looked at ice cream and bourbon forever. I could drink that every day. For the burger, I had the Squealer and it was alright. Honestly, for a burger with a fried egg (not runny, unfortunately) and pickled red onion, it was surprisingly lacking in flavor. I also shared the Chicken and Waffle Sliders and I should have just stuck with that because it was inventive and quite tasty.

Google
We went for breakfast and we were also in a hurry but they got the food out with time to spare! I got the tofu scramble which was seasoned to perfection and my partner got the veggie hash bake. Both were very filling and the food came out quickly. Love the ambiance there too.

Google
Was excited to come back for poutine and a milkshake only to find the menu is drastically different and they don’t have poutine or milkshakes. Kind of disappointing. Ended up getting a BLT instead and noticed the fries were also completely different. It wasn’t bad by any means, just not at all what I wanted or expected. The side of the building says milkshakes in huge font. No donut burger sliders, no poutine, no milkshakes??? Maybe I’m missing something?

I was very impressed!!! In route I always use there restroom.. It very convenient. So I decided it's more than time to try them out.. I ordered a dirty martini. These are easy to mess up! The Bar tender made it excellently!! Yumm!! Then I ordered some wings. Smokey and delicious, and lots of them! The service was beyond exception. The Host was a BOSS!! Love this place.

Yelp
I was in this week with a large group of coworkers for lunch. I personally would give this place 5 stars, but in consideration of my friends' input, I'm going to scale down to 4 stars. For me, the Rueben on sourdough was one of the best I've ever had. I loved the bread & thought the meat-to sauerkraut ratio was perfect. The fries weren't the best, but I loved their ranch. The server was friendly, patient, & quick and the restaurant did a great job accommodating our group growing from 10 on the reservation to 13 showing up. Okay, so some of my friends didn't have the same fantastic experience. One ordered an omelet & discovered a hair in it (it happens & she didn't say anything to the server). The other friend ordered a cup of soup & a side salad. When it arrived, we all marveled at the generous portions, but discovered upon settling our bill that she was charged for a full salad & a bowl of soup. $23 for a simple lunch was a bit surprising. Everyone else seemed to really enjoy their lunches. We will definitely return!

Yelp
Nothing special. Standard diner fare and maybe a tad higher price with a tad smaller portions here than other similar options. The best part of my breakfast was the hashbrown--just a big brick of fried shredded potato--which you can't really screw up, lol. Hubby ordered the biscuits & gravy and that had a nice little spice to it but the actual biscuit was sub-par. Service was nice enough but seemed slow for a mostly empty restaurant early one Sunday morning. I wouldn't come back or recommend because there are so many other options in downtown that are more worth time and $.

Yelp
This is a PSA: The Original Dinerant has closed for business. It's a Hotel bar & restaurant now with a completely different menu. Just want to save everyone a trip who's looking for The Original's old menu.

Leanne M.

Yelp
Seriously yum!!! The server knew his stuff and everything he suggested was excellent. They make their own syrups for their sodas. We chose the grinder mint. Neither the ginger or the mint overpowered. Although I would have preferred to have a stronger ginger flavour The handmade shakes were topped with real whipped cream on top. I had the berry shake. The blend of the different berries made it feel as I was sipping a warm summer day in wintertime Portland The club sandwich was not soggy. The bread was perfectly toasted. The short ribs melted off the bone

Yelp
So yummy! A perfect place for breakfast, with a cute Lil arcade! My husband got the CRAZY GOOD chicken and waffles. Definitely not the classic but with confit chicken and jalapeno waffles... We didn't miss the classic. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of what I ordered but it was like a super good Monte Cristo with a croissant and really good hot mustard. The food is a big win. Our way was so kind and funny and we just loved her! She gave us cute Lil anecdotes about the place and guy fieri. She was super personable and great. The ambiance is great! You can't miss the place when you're looking for it and the inside matches the outside! The arcade upstairs is very cool cause I love pinball. It's a great breakfast spot. Maybe not the best fit for people who like small places but I think it's awesome. Good food! Wonderful service! Good ambiance and not too loud. Try the chicken and waffles!

Yelp
This is a cool place. We were staying in the Marriott and it's attached, so we ate here several times for breakfast. Good food and good service. The Bloody Mary's were very good! We had several egg dishes and a fritata, and all were good. They have an apparently new arcade upstairs from the dining area. This place was also featured on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives.

Yelp
This place was recommended by a friend. It was a really incredible visit. We had to wait a bit for seating but that gave us a chance to find out all their pastries are made in house. Well gee whiz, that changes the whole dessert scene. I was hoping to make it to dessert then! But alas, the food is HUGE and so I did not make it to dessert. As soon as they reopen, we will pop in to try some amazing breakfast and lunch options. The mac and cheese I ordered as a side could have been lunch...the sandwich was incredible. The soup...oh yum. AND our waitress had personality and chatted with us politely. I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Very chill relaxing restaurant, the staff are super laid-back and nice. The service was also good, someone always came to the table to check on us. EATS: Donut sliders - sister got this dish, the donut was a bit dense but overall it was still good.. the donut and beef Patty worked well with the sweet and savory Turkey burger - what a turkey burger usually tastes like, cooked well but nothing magical TIPS: Street parking or structured parking at US bank

Brittany A.

Yelp
Simply amazing. Had a late brunch. My wife had biscuits and gravy and I had my usual Eggs Benedict. My wife was very pleased with her choice. My Benedict was perfect Really no other words. Staff was friendly. Oh and they have an arcade upstairs. Only complaint was I checked in AFTER I paid my bill and when I asked to cash in my free pie I was told 'next time' ... even tho I said I was from Seattle and not coming back for awhile. Oh well. Next time.

Yelp
Can't say I'm all that impressed. we've been wanting to come and check this "Triple D" diner out for a while and unfortunately I probably won't ever be back. Service was okay but the food was just nothing to write home about. If I had the option to go to a gas station and pick out a egg salad sandwich or dine at this place, I just seriously have to flip a coin. The food presentation was good I'll give you that. However, there's no flavor in the food and I tried the chicken with waffles and I also tried my wife's mushroom omelette. I do cook as a hobby and I grew up in the restaurant business. It was nowhere even close to my standard. And I have no standards!!

Danielle J.

Yelp
Honestly, we were walking somewhere else to eat and this caught our eye. My steelhead was AHHHMMMAAAAZZZIIINNGGGG!!!! Ate it entirely w/o thinking twice. Alyssa was our waitress and she went beyond to make our experience great!!! Fun vibe. Would definitely return!

Yelp
Delicious Lunch!! I was staying at the hotel attached to this diner and heard so many wonderful things about it. I had the crispy fried chicken sandwich with fries for lunch. Thick, juicy pieces of chicken and crispy fries. It was everything I could have hoped for in a midday meal. + Great, friendly service - Erin did an amazing job! + Delicious food - breakfast served all day!! I highly recommend this diner for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner.

Yelp
Downtown Portland I've passed this place many times and never managed to go. I would always walk by their giant glass windows looking at the packed seats and yummy dishes on the tables. We finally went I ordered the Northwest Logger (Two eggs any style, two pancakes, hash browns, sausage, bacon) The pancakes weren't the prettiest but yummy and very "hearty". The generous portioned hashbrowns were perfectly crisp but disappointed by the tough sausage links, I didn't even finish them. We also ordered the "B. L. A. T." Bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato, como bread. I was told it was really good and came with a really tasty Caesar Salad. Our waitress was very friendly that always had a smile on her face. Plan on going back to try out more menu items!

Chris H.

Yelp
Our breakfasts were great this morning, sunny side up eggs cooked perfectly, delicious thick cut bacon, great sourdough and cut fruit. High quality & perfectly delicious. The French Roast coffee was superb, in line with what Portland is known for, high quality coffee beans. Enjoyed every sip. Service was friendly & efficient in spite of it being a one man show this morning. We tipped heavily as all customers should while Portland businesses struggle with their devastating homeless problem; mostly men (and fewer women) highly addicted to drugs. The area is surrounded with this population. Last, the hours stated on Yelp are wrong. Call restaurant for actual hours open.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I ventured to this spot on cloudy Saturday in hopes of finding some great eats. Upon arrival, we (accompanied with our 10-month-old son) stood at the front hostess podium for roughly 6 minutes while people bustled around us. Mind you, everyone looked in our direction, but no one had taken the time to ask if we'd been helped or needed seating. Not a great start. We were seated at a booth by the actual hostess who had been busy in the back - she was really pleasant and apologetic, so we let the idle time we stood waiting, slide out of our thoughts. We ordered four food items, and none were too impressive. Donut Burger Sliders: My boyfriend is an AVID enthusiast of burgers with glazed donuts as the buns. I personally had never had such a thing but, being the foodie I am, was eager to try. These little (and I do mean LITTLE) appetizers are $11. It wasn't stated on the menu, but they only come with two... not four like you would imagine, and like what was our impression. We ordered them as was, minus the mayo, because... yuck? They were tasty, but not a good enough portion for the size or the cost. Chicken & (Jalapeño) Waffles: $16 of absolute horror. The waffles are four, pre-made and probably, most definitely frozen, little triangles of nothingness. I was hesitant about the jalapeños in them, but thought it might add a nice difference/spice in conjunction with the sweet syrup. The chicken was awful. It was too salty - granted, I know chicken confit means that it's preserved with salt and cooked over a long period of time... but this is not my first rodeo with chicken confit and this was absolutely the worst one I've had. If you're going to do chicken and waffles, the chicken needs to be crispy for texture - the crunch is the best part. This chicken was sad, and gross. Pancakes / Eggs / Sausage: My boyfriend is more of an eater, than a reviewer. It's pretty tough to mess up this kind of American breakfast staple meal. In his words, his "pancakes were filling, the eggs could have been better, and the sausage was decent. However, my mimosa was the best part." Hash browns: These were for my tot, who has an egg allergy. I was disappointed not only with the kids menu in general, but also lack of allergen substitutes. Nevertheless, the hash browns were okay - hard to mess up, I would imagine. But the chicken confit being so bad made anything seem possible. Overall, very lack luster and won't be returning. Extremely overpriced and underwhelming.

Yelp
Ok I am going to be honest, when I first saw this spot from the outside looking in I wasn't too sure about it. Something about a bar cafe didn't sound too fun to me. Man was I wrong. This is an very elegant location so don't be afraid to dress up (it's ok if you're not too though) and the bar has a great menu. I didn't even see the upstairs where they had an amazing view of the resteraunt. Upstairs they also had video games galore! So much fun here. The cocktails were amazing and the food even more so. It's a little spendy here but it's worth it!

Teresa S.

Yelp
So I have been here a few times now. I have to say that our first visit here was the best one . My experience has since that first time has gone down every time. It's a great location, right downtown Portland. It's wonderfully decorated. The menu looks fantastic, and it has a lot of history. The service is less than stellar however. As well as the food usually comes out cold . It's a fairly high priced restaurant. But, I feel like they just want to push alcohol on everyone. The first time we tried it, we were a party of five. We did have to ask for drink refills and coffee refills. But, the food was warm and very good. Ever since that time and the food has just been OK. Except the last time. My clam chowder soup was room temperature cold, not even warm and even my doughnut burger had been left to sit where it was cold when they brought it out to me . 20 Minutes later when the server came back to ask you how your food was and you tell them it's all cold. He looked at me like it Is supposed to be cold ? He did offer to send it back to heat it. But, never let food out of your sight once you have to return it. Why did any of it come out cold, to begin with? So no thank you ,I would just like it to go. 15 minutes later when he came back with a To Go box, I have now wasted over an hour in the restaurant and still really hadn't eaten anything but,a few bites because everything was cold. This Place could be really spectacular and fun. But, the customer service is really the downfall of this place.

Darris J.

Yelp
Service was just crappy when I came in and sat down. Had two bartenders not even acknowledge that I was even there for sometime. It got to a point where other patrons took notice. I passive aggressively asked said fellow patrons how long it took for them to get the basic acknowledgment I was looking for in front of the servers and in their round about way they said I wasn't being the angry black guy. The one server came up with a sorry excuse about splitting a check, my reply was all I was looking for was a "hello". Hell, he managed to engage in conversation with other staff and two patrons, but saying hello to my black ass was too much? Split check guy spent most of his time conversing with customers on the opposite end of the bar, not really checking in on folk on the the other side. My Caesar salad was massive, don't typically see Cheesecake Factory portions for $6. One minor annoyance was that there was no foyer to protect you from the cold. Every time anyone opened the door you got dose of cold air. Took the apple pie home, love the filling the crust was bland. Not a good first impression. Returned for breakfast and had a much better experience food portions are insane. Love the pancakes, light and fluffy. Served with award level crispy bacon and hash brown.

Neil Y.

Yelp
In a word, horrible. Food was disgusting. I rarely if ever, venture into low yelp rating territory. This place was attached to the hotel so it was a convenience decision. DON'T MAKE THE SANE MISTAKE !!!! Horrid food-stay away. Chicken was boiled??? Steak was flavorless and stank of being left out too long. Jesus people-make an effort already.

Katrina V.

Yelp
The Original Dinerant is conveniently attached to the Courtyard Portland City Center where my sister and I were staying. Prior to an event we were going to head to, we decided to step our pregame up at The Original Dinerant. With that said, let it be known that this review is specifically on the customer experience since I didn't eat anything at this establishment. Our bartender, Elliot, is just a cool AF human being and deserves the shoutout. When my sister and I sat at the bar, I asked for a round of Jameson shots with ginger backs... to which he replied, "ginger ale or ginger beer?" Well, this totally caught me by surprise. Did I want to ease into a fun night with the ginger ale or go big or go home with the ginger beer? Either way, it was the perfect ice breaker that led us to building rapport with Elliot. He was very personable, friendly, and knowledgeable of the nightlife scene in downtown Portland. Elliot gave us tips on bars and lounges to check out in the area as well as late night eats for the drunk munchies. Furthermore, I found that he was attentive to all the patrons at the bar despite being the only bartender that night (we were there around 10:30p on Black Friday). Look out for Elliot for excellent customer service if you pop into The Original Dinerant!

Yelp
It was my first day on the job and my start time wasn't until 8:50am. I'm an early riser and inexperienced with public transportation so I decided to take the 6:49am express bus from Tigard. I didn't plan ahead, so I wandered around until I found a place for breakfast. I didn't want to walk into my first day with a to-go bag, so I went for the Chicken and Waffle sliders. They were okay. I wouldn't order them again.

Ernie C.

Yelp
Cannot day enough good things about The Original Dinerant! Every time I've come in for food, they've never disappointed. A tad spendier than other places like it, but than again you're downtown, so what do you expect? Today's meal was their Chicken & Waffles. I can see why they're well-known for it. Chicken was moist, juicy, crispy, & delicious. One thing I like about the chicken was the outside wasn't over done, with way too much breading. It was perfect. Smoky, and something else I couldn't quite put my finger on. A little saltier than I like, but I could've eaten another order just for the chicken. Waffles were light, airy, and just the right amount of crunch on the outside. Flavorful, with the right amount of savory & sweet. The jalepeno's didn't overpower the waffle either. Overall, I was full & satisfied!!! I will be back again & again! P.s. Not that it matters, but the burps afterwards were almost as delicious as the meal!

Yelp
We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, and The Original is conveniently located just downstairs! There is even an entrance attached to the lobby. Really convenient! On a Tuesday morning, the restaurant was about half full. Friendly service! I ordered the Croissant E Cristo Sandwich. Batter-dipped house croissant with ham, swiss, dijon, and marionberry preserves. This was my first time trying one of these sweet and savory sandwiches, and I must say that I am a fan! There was a perfect amount of marionberry preserve, so it wasn't overly sweet. It came with a choice of hash browns, French fries, or house salad. Since it was breakfast time, I opted for the hash browns. I had a bite of the Ham Omelette, which was pretty standard. This came with hash browns and toast. Free pie with Yelp check-in! Unfortunately, we came at breakfast time, so we didn't really feel like taking advantage of the offer and having pie so early in the morning.

Rachel M.

Yelp
I came in because it's a Triple D (diner, drive, and dive). I ordered the chicken and waffles, which I have actually never tried anywhere before. Unfortunately it was incredibly dissapointing. The waffles were luke warm with raw bits, and the chicken was over fried and lacked flavor. It tasted like pre-boiled chicken that was fried. I took a couple of bites and returned it. The presentation was lackluster and bland. The atmosphere is pretty hip and I was expecting a bit more style to the food. I then ordered the smoked steelhead Benedict....much better. The server was very friendly, and gave me a discount for the inconvenience. Overall, this might be a hit and miss spot food wise but I will come back and give another try.

Austin P.

Yelp
I've been here twice for breakfast, and once for dessert. I'd best describe this as a hipster diner. In other words, the owners noticed that Portland was in dire need of an East Coast diner, but wanted to make sure that said diner still had some Portland flavor. But onto the food. Breakfast was good (burrito one time, hash the other), but dessert (cookies and cream milkshake) was great! And the service was amazing. Also, if you feel like you need to Instagram your meal, know that LTE coverage inside the restaurant is subpar. But hopefully that mere detail won't deter you from setting foot inside this excellent establishment

Michelle M.

Yelp
I've been here a handful of times and every time the staff is so welcoming and kind. I've made a few requests and every time the waitress/waiter would do their best to accommodate me. The food is very fresh and delicious and I've never had to wait for an extremely long time. It's located near Pioneer Square which makes it even more convenient. All I can say about The Original Dinerant is that it's a must try! If you go you have to try the creme brulee French toast! It's by far my favorite thing to get there.

Laura C.

Yelp
Don't let the word "Dinerant" deter you. This is not a Denny's or IHOP. It is far more big, modern- industrial open air bar/restaurant than diner. OMG! The happy hour fried chicken sandwich stands 4" high and is placed on sesame seed bun! It was completely messy and needed to be eaten with a knife and fork but it was worth the trouble. I asked our bartender, Avery, if the colossal happy hour chicken sandwich was good. He said it was amazing. He misunderstood my question to be an order and put the order in for me. When I asked for the fried chicken and waffle sliders, he was all "As well as the chicken sandwich? I already put an order in for you for that". It was a misunderstanding, but a good (and obviously more expensive) one, because I ended up devouring the chicken sandwich and sharing the delightful little sliders with my friends. Avery brought us all a complimentary shot of Blackberry bramble, which tasted kind of like Chambord. Besides ordering more sandwiches, our group also ordered the queso dip, to share, which had huge chunks of sausage. It heavenly evil in a good tasting heart attack looking to happen way, They have $6 glasses of house vino for happy hour so I had a few of the white. If you are downtown, you definitely want to consider coming here for their southern comfort food happy hour.

Brian C.

Yelp
This groovy retro joint used to be a regular stop for my gal and I when on a Portland swing. We loved the vibe, the creative comfort food menu, the upbeat friendly service. The huge windows that allow customers to observe the neighborhood rhythm as they sip coffee and get ready carpe that diem. It was a cool joint. Now, food is haphazardly prepared and sloppily plated. Proteins are precooked and reheated (if you're lucky. I wasn't). Service is harried and scattershot. There's been nothing significantly new on the menu in years. This is a restaurant that would be on its last legs, if it weren't attached to a hotel. Indeed, this is an example of the downside to attaching a restaurant to (and managing it from) a hotel. Yes, you can afford an enviably huge and expensively decorated space, and (if they support you financially) you can weather typical restaurant ups and downs easily... BUT if they also control your staff, especially BOH ("back of house" for you non-industry folks. It means the kitchen) then the product will suffer. Banquet chefs and breakfast grill tenders are not like regular line cooks in their approach or motivation. They have less skin in the game, and that lack of focus on customer satisfaction will inevitably show up on the plate. And it's contagious. FOH (you guessed it: "front of house") staff will get tired of customer complaints that will impact their tips. Often they become surly, numb or uncaring, and jaded over time. It's sad. Not recommended. This place needs fresh blood, first in management and then the staff, especially the kitchen. Stay away until they sort their stuff out.

Jo V.

Yelp
Slow but amiable service, average food. Hubby had egg white omelette, said it was ok. I had the much raved about poutine. Frozen fries, had barely there gravy, cheese was ok but fries were not warm when served and 75% of the fries were left on plate untouched by gravy and cheese. Disappointed. The best poutine I've had in Portland is at a little food cart called Penguin.

Michelle Z.

Yelp
Had high expectations for this place since it was on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. Can't say we were impressed, mostly unsatisfied. There's so many great breakfast spots here and this just isn't one of them. The only Ok-ish thing about the meal was the fried chicken sliders we got to start. My husband got an omelette and I had a egg sandwich on a biscuit. The omelette was mediocre and the sandwich was SO dry. It all sounded great in theory, but we won't be back.

Morgan R.

Yelp
Really 2.5 stars, but not 3. One of us had "The Captain" - a fried egg and sausage on an extra large English muffin, with shredded potatoes accompanying. The sausage was not a standard patty, and really wasn't very good - chewy and not that flavorful. The rest was OK (the egg, the shredded potatoes, the English muffin), but for $13 plus tip, you'd do better to get a sausage McMuffin from McDonalds. We also had the meatloaf - two 3/8th-inch-thick slivers of meatloaf obviously fried on the grill. Again, non-standard - having been originally cooked in a house mustard, and topped with a house mustard sauce. The meatloaf was OK (though there were little bits of gristle and bone, which shouldn't have been there) - and while the mustard was different and interesting, I'm not a fan. The mashed potatoes were good, and the green beans with stewed tomatoes were perfectly OK. The real issue is "would I order this again?" and the answer is no. This is a non-traditional diner - a captive hotel restaurant in a 1950s modern high-ceiling space (nothing diner-like about it). Despite vibrant colored walls etc., the space felt cold an impersonal. I found myself wondering if it was originally the lobby to the hotel - hard to tell. Our server was pleasant and did a reasonable job. The food came quickly. So the real issues are the atmosphere, and the food quality.

Yelp
It was my first night in Portland and I arrived pretty late so there weren't a lot of places that were open. I was fortunate to find the The Original Dinerant, a perky hipster little diner that I thought would be great for dinner. Unfortunately, I don't think this place met my expectations. When I arrived at the restaurant, I was immediately seated at the bar without any other options (I realized later that other people were being seated at normal booths - which is what I would've preferred way more). The server at the bar was not attentive at all and I waited a good while to order. Meanwhile, another server was chatting up a storm with the patron beside me. I asked if she would be able to put in my order and she told me, "sorry, I'm not your server you would need to talk to him instead". I basically had to go right up to the server to get him to take my order. Finally able to order, I decided to get the Squealer burger which consisted of a bacon beef patty, fried egg, red onions, lettuce, tomato and chipotle aioli. Alright, sounds good now. When the food finally came, I found my patty to be a bit red and undercooked and the portion to be a bit small for $15 bucks. Taste wise, I did think the burger was pretty decent, the fried egg was a bit of a funky touch but I didn't think it was worth all the raves that this place got online. As I was getting ready to leave, I tried to call for my check, but the bar server had literally dissapeared for 20 mins and was nowhere to be found. I tried waving over someone else from the otherside but they just looked at me and said that the bar was not her responsibility and she wouldn't get my bill. I told her that I had a train to catch and she said that she would try to find him. Another 10 minutes later he finally appeared and I was finally able to pay and leave. Never again. Overall, 2.5 stars. The food is alright, somewhat novel but kinda overpriced. The food is probably about three stars here, but I couldn't give this place any recommendation because the service is terrible.

Yelp
I seem to recall our waiter kind of sucked. This place seems cooler than it is but it isn't horrible. The art on the walls is pretty cool and they have glasses of rosé. A tad bit on the pricey side for what you get. I have the poutine that was actually really delicious. My friend got the oddest donut burgers and we had a good laugh.

Yelp
A few weeks ago before the shelter in place order, I traveled to Portland to visit my friend who goes to Pacific University. We were walking around downtown and saw that there was an arcade in a building, we walked in and asked if we could go check it out and the workers were so nice! They gave us refreshments and were just super helpful. Definitely will be coming back!

Yelp
Bland, bland, bland. My friend made brunch reservations here after the Shamrock Run and I'd heard good things, plus the menu looked enticing so I was pretty excited. Post-run, I was starving and would have eaten gum off the sidewalk, so everything looked good. I ordered the chicken fried steak, which I don't usually eat but again, post-run and starving and a big hunk of breaded & fried meat sounded great. My friend had the chicken and waffle, and others in our party also had chicken fried steak and some sort of Elvis French toast situation. My meal was, yep, bland. While the steak looked great, all breaded and crunchy, none of it had a hint of flavor - not the steak itself, not the breading, not the gravy. The hash browns didn't appear to have been salted or peppered at any point in their lifetime. The only good part of the meal was the small cup of fruit that I'd paid $2 to swap out the eggs for, which was probably the best decision I'd made because I'm sure the eggs would have been dead bland too. (Also, can we please stop with the surcharge on substitutions? A cupful of chopped fruit is not more expensive than two eggs. Stop.) My friend and I had the garlic and pickled veg Bloody Mary too, which was - you guessed it! - bland. The first sip was just an overwhelming flavor of garlic - and I love garlic - but I couldn't even taste the tomato in the Bloody Mary mix and it had no spice. She agreed that the drink was pretty tasteless. She did say she enjoyed her chicken and waffle, although the chicken presentation seemed a bit odd - one giant leg, not breaded or fried but confit, supposedly - and it looked dry. Even starving after a run, I couldn't enjoy the meal. Chicken fried steak and a Bloody Mary are diner staples, so it would stand to reason that an elevated diner concept would be able to handle them. Not so. I paid nearly $30 for this tasteless experience. I see no reason to return.

Yelp
To be fair, I only ordered a small cup of soup , so I really have not experienced much. Cute diner, great concept and good menu choices. I had a short lunch period and ordered soup, no time for anything else . My soup had a really weird texture, almost like gelatin. Yuck! I checked in on yelp for a free piece of pie, but after check-in. Learned the coupon is only valid with an entree. I was not impressed but would like to give it another try when I have more time to explore the menu or enjoy a cocktail. fyi- the bat seats are fixed to the floor and may not work for someone who is short, tall or otherwise does not fit the space. As a smaller person, I had some difficulty.

Yelp
Been here before, wasn't quite impressed with quality, but at least price point is still affordable. Went in for a quick business lunch today. Seating was full so sat at the bar counter. Ordered all day breakfast - hash browns, which was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, and eggs which was over easy as requested. My issue was the biscuit that was hard as a rock, and very watery gravy. If it wasn't on business tab, not something I'd pay my money for. Dessert is exceptionally sweet, so I didn't bother. For quick stop to get your stomach full on a budget, it's all right.

Yelp
Serves pretty good food, above average. There isn't really a huge factor that sets it apart from other places that serve the same thing. The service is great and there isn't a ridiculous wait on the food. It's very clean. I love that it's opened late, there isn't a lot places that do in Portland. The food isn't greasy like most diners. They have a fun mini donut burger that I would recommend!

Yelp
Very comfortable and spacious seating. Excellent service. I had a veggie scramble that was delicious. I ordered a bowl of oatmeal for my baby, and it was unbelievably good. It came with little cups of sides: brown sugar, golden raisins and dried cranberries, sliced bananas, fresh berries and almonds. My older kids had pancakes, they gave them 2 thumbs up. I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Stop what you are doing and go eat some donuts burger sliders right now! This was one of the best bites I have had in a long time. I'm not big on sweets so I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy a donut slider but I have not stopped craving them since my first bite! Those sliders make it worth it to return! The food was amazing but to be honest, the service fell a little flat. It didn't take long to get a table, which is rare and appreciated for a Sunday brunch in Portland but once we were seated - the service was soooo slow. I'm always patient, as I eat out a lot and understand that the staff could get busy but we waited way too long for drinks and we had ask for them multiple times. Our server wasn't very friendly either, which is unfortunate. If I could give half stars, I'd rate 3.5 but the food was good enough to bump it up to 4 since it's not an option. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and try again. I'll update my review if next time the service is better.

Yelp
Yep, i like it. Officially part of the herd. A friend was delayed in meeting me for an early Happy Hour (tee hee) so i grabbed the chance to stop in for coffee and a Bowl if Chil con Carne. Want too busy at 115 and i enjoyed sitting at the Diner Bar yakking at the tolerant Bartender. Yes, there IS a Full Bar, and right next to MAX and bus lines which stop both sides of Big Pink. Sadly i saw only 2 Taps, abd the for Bud and Ranier...so ask about bottle options or just order that BOOZY SHAKE you REALLY want. Chili was great. Large bowl, lots of ground steak, and it came with 2 small Cornbread Muffins to toss in. Coffee was strong and hot, probably better w cream. A refill was offered before i had finished the first. I'll be back for dinner ... and pie. If someone comes on time to share those, i'll order a Boozy Shake too! One life, baby. Good stuff. No regrets.

Yelp
Can't go wrong with their chicken pot pie! With its perfect flaky crust it's easily my favorite thing on the menu (I've also tried their burgers, the meatloaf, a breakfast scramble) and the servers will vouch for it too. Service is always friendly though definitely unhurried. But it's a leisurely kind of place to have a meal so I get it. Don't forget to check in for the free slice of pie!

Yelp
It's not often that I frequent the same establishment two days/night in a row, but this is the exception. Our mixologist Ryan has been fantastic! He is friendly, super creative, and talented. I told him some of the flavors I enjoy and he crafted a drink that wasn't on the menu. The spiced pear drink was awesome! They use a medley of spices to create a fall taste. The Original features a unique assortment of barrel aged cocktails too. There's a diner:lounge vibe between the decor and menu. Artwork hangs from the ceiling and the walls. There's Alexander Calder-like mobiles by the window and local photographs. The bar snack mix is really tasty & super spicy!

Yelp
Came here because I saw the guy fieri head on the window. got seated right away at the bar and the bartender was friendly. I got a clam chowder based off of the yelp reviews and it was really delicious. I've eaten a lot of clam chowder and this might be my favorite. It had a little bit of a kick to it and there was plenty of clam and bacon bits.

Yelp
The drinks are delicious and the fries are truly "dank" as our waiter said. We came here with a big group of friends and really enjoyed most of the food here. My friend said she didn't like her chicken and waffles since they weren't like what she was expecting but everyone else loved their shake drinks and my other gal pal even got extra bacon with hers. I had some of the chili fries and a drink with Tito's and and egg whites that was super light and enjoyable. I'd like to come back and try a lot more items when I can. We did want to check out the arcade but unfortunately couldn't due to another event. So maybe next time!

Yelp
This place gets all 5 stars from me becoz I LOVE their Crème brûlée French Toast!!! I have travelled quite a bit but I have yet to find a place that makes Crème brûlée French Toast! You don't need any syrups, just dig into it as is and you will fall in love! Special shout out to our server Stacy, we didn't make it in time for breakfast but she managed to convince the kitchen to serve us from the breakfast menu as we were visiting from Seattle and had come in specially for the Crème brûlée French toast! Thanks stacy!

Yelp
I know this place is better that what I experienced today. I had great expectations since the Food Network had been there and boasted about it! Not even a busy day either. Every table was available except 3 and I was at one of them! It took a long time for someone to acknowledge me after I was seated by the hostess. I waited patiently. After about 20 minutes they noticed me and I was able to order food. ( it happened to be happy hour so I thought I'd try the food listed) There was a couple who had just been seated behind me after I ordered and funny thing, they received their food before I did. I had to get up and ask if they forgot my order! It finally arrived and the excuse was it took longer to cook my two mini chicken waffle sliders versus their full burgers They tasted ok. Not very flavorful. No one refilled the tea I was drinking. I had to get up again and ask the kind hostess if I could have more. I decided to order a to go sandwich for later and received the bill.. To my dismay, another persons signed receipt including mine was in my billfold! I think that was the big disappointment. Just no care for the customer today. I was in the restaurant for almost 2 hours. Pretty sad AND disappointed

Yelp
Had breakfast here while staying at the Marriott Courtyard hotel above the diner. Interesting atmosphere with a mix of modern and oldies feeling. The bar area and the circular booths in the back of the restaurant feel cosy, I loved the large views of the street with people and street cars passing by. The middle area of the place feels more neutral and cold though. The place has good service to start even if the food was slow to come. From the time I got greeted and seated to when I left, the staff was really friendly and engaging. Hearing them talking to each other it looks like they like their work here. My tea was refilled several times without having ever to ask. My waiter, Logan, was courteous and did a great job. As my food took a long time to arrive he took my tea off the bill. I was there for breakfast and got a veggie sausage scramble with egg whites. The scramble serving was pretty generous and I could only eat half of it. It is a good deal for $12. Texture and taste were good. I especially liked the sun dried tomatoes full of flavor and really sweet. Hash brown were crispy and not oily (nice!). With the nice spread of local hot sauces and ketchup it was easy to add some serious kick to my scramble. I recommend the place for a good start of the day. Got to go to and pack now...
