New Orleans Top Tourist Traps That Are Actually Worth a Visit - Eater New Orleans

"Wander down Esplanade towards the Mississippi early in the morning, and run smack into the French Market as it’s coming to life, a beehive of sellers unpacking their wares, artists setting up shop, and food vendors preparing all manner of delectables. The market, originally a Choctaw trading post dating back to 1791, is a six-block open-air colonnade of produce, souvenirs, and under-appreciated freshly prepared local dishes ranging from Gulf oysters to muffulettas. Check Meals From the Heart for good-for-you dishes and Alberto’s for a muffuletta rivaling that other place across the street." - Beth D'Addono

Google
Taylor our server was amazing, so attentive and informative with the local spots, know abouts’ and so happy to share. Made the visit and everyone else in the establishment was wonderful, service was an A1 in my book. The scent draws you in, make sure you stop on by if you are in the area, you won’t regret it! Seriously so good!

If you’re in New Orleans and looking for the perfect mix of flavor, vibes, and Southern charm, do yourself a favor and stop by French Market Restaurant & Bar! The atmosphere is a little quirky—but in the BEST way. It’s got that fun, laid-back energy that feels authentically NOLA. Now let’s talk food—the seafood platters are out of this world: • The crawfish was spicy, juicy, and full of flavor • The snow crab legs were buttery, tender, and perfectly seasoned • The dinner salad with grilled shrimp was fresh, flavorful, and a perfect lighter option • And if you can grab a seat outside, you’ll enjoy great food and great people-watching! Drinks? They know how to pour! • The mango mimosa was a sweet tropical escape in a glass • The mint julep was smooth, crisp, and packed a refreshing punch Big shoutout to the crew that made our visit unforgettable: • Carl, our waiter—super friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home • Macy & Kiki brought the personality and energy that truly elevated the whole night Pro tip: Order as soon as you sit—Jill in the kitchen keeps it moving, and trust me, you want your food in that first round! French Market Restaurant & Bar is a whole vibe—can’t wait to go back!

Google
An enjoyable experience for sure. The staff was great and very friendly. There is plenty of space. The building is definitely reminiscent of the French Quarter. The red beans and rice was really good. Definitely a good place to eat in the quarter amidst all the shops and crowds. There were plenty of options on the menu.

Google
Walked into this restaurant while exploring the streets of NOLA before Mardi Gras. Of course we started with the blackened alligator which was delicious. For the entrees we got the shrimp étouffée and the crab cakes. The crab cakes were to die for but the étouffée was a little bland. Still good but not as good as the crab. One thing that I feel I should mention is the air inside the restaurant. Not sure what it was but we kept coughing, noses dripping and our eyes burned so bad they watered the entire time. Maybe it was the spices in the air. We never found out as we tried to get out ASAP after eating. We noticed other tables also had this issue. Overall great food. Weird breathing air inside. Friendly and fast service.

Google
This is a food local spot for gator bites, oysters and red beans. The service was good, from the most professional and kind server. I dined very early im the afternoon and it was pretty quiet.

Google
I loved the bourbon pecan pie. It had the right amount of crust at the bottom. Lots of pie never have enough at the bottom. The crawfish were small but taste fine. The snow crab was a no for me. The sausage shrimp gumbo had a good flavor, lots of shrimp two sausage.

Google
I come to say that I enjoyed my meal, and thank God my server today was very good, super attentive, he was a tall blonde guy with a small pony tail, I am really bad with names so description should do😅. Is pricey but I think anywhere you go if it is a touristy area then be prepared to pay extra and don’t complain, that is what vacations are about, spending!! Despite the bad reviews that I am seeing just now…. And I didn’t go to the restroom like everybody is mentioning…I leave 5 star for today

Google
Excellent food and Excellent service. Convenient location at the French Market. The crawfish and shrimp poboys are so good and the pecan pie is divine. Friendly and professional servers and staff. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Ate here on June 2nd as my wife wanted boiled shrimp; wasn't expecting much at a touristy spot in the French Quarter but it exceeded expectation. The boiled shrimp, onion rings and oysters were very good. Place is a little dark and the menus are a bit shabby but the service was friendly and courteous with decent pricing for such a location. Thankfully no loud music. They advertise the boiled shrimp and other items at market price but in reality they are 4 times market price but still reasonable as shrimp are very inexpensive at true market price in New Orleans.

Yelp
DO NOT GO HERE! The staff is rude and unfriendly. We had two families one with two people and one with three. They refused to separate our bills so we could pay independently. I had planned on not tipping because the waiter was an old white man and had an awful attitude. Was short with everyone including my 12 year old over what soda he wanted. Then comes the check and they forced a 20% tip, no wonder he was rude, he didn't care because he was getting a tip either way. The table was dirt, the silverware looked like it needed cleaned, and after we left all of our stomachs hurt. Their $18 burger was so bad someone in our group only ate about 2-3 bites before throwing in the towel.

Yelp
The only decent thing is the food. Waiters don't give a crap about you or serving you friendly. Is there any bar tender? Or whoever can serve drinks? Beer was standing there on the bar for.... 10 mins? Ambiance? Come on, invest in light bulbs man. Just one ceiling light was on, white light? I thought I was in a bar and not in a dentist office. Again, the food is great, but this is not a favor, it's a service. Improve service, don't hire people who don't give a crap about their job.

Yelp
Disappointed after eating here for dinner, mainly because of the service. When we walked in, the hostess was nice and walked us to a table. Our waiter then asked if we wanted to drink anything. After we asked for a happy hour menu, he was reluctant to tell us which drinks were a part of the deal. He eventually listed those which were on hh, but It seemed like he wanted us to put in our orders quickly. They then switched waiters after we had our drinks. The second waiter was a little nicer, but when we ordered an appetizer, he brough it out by itself. We went to the front to ask for plates after he left in a hurry. He asked if we were just going to order appetizers and not real food, and at the time he was hanging out with the other servers. Was not a fan this acusation in addition to not providing us with plates. It seems like service is not a priority here. The food itself was okay. The boiled crab, shrimp, and lobster plates were big. There was a lot of spice amd flavor, especially the corn on tbe cobs. The swamp platter was the best thing, but was rather pricey the small amount. The drinks were not that great- super sweet and tasted like pure sugar. The bathroom was located upstairs, and it was really dirty. It seemed like there was some leaking, as the entire floor was wet and there were several puddles. At our table, there were small flies/bugs swarming the food too. Overall, bad service, bad atmosphere, bugs, dirty areas couples with okay food. Would not dine here again. They also had an automatic 20% tip that really should have been less.

Yelp
Great chargrilled oysters. The bbq shrimp were ok. Not much flavor. But those oysters were fuego.

Yelp
First time in French Quarter and excited to taste some good creole food. Tried the Bayou Sampler which had Shrimp & Grits, Red Beans and Jambalaya - 10/10, Crawfish bisque 10/10 and a pound of steamed Crawfish 7/10 - it was way too salty and expensive $18/pound (normally $5-7/pound)- had I known there was a current shortage on crawfish I would have ordered shrimp instead. Dining on the balcony over looking the French Market Grill with live jazz music was nice though and service was great.

Yelp
Food was surprisingly good and the ambiance was nice and it was conveniently located. Service was a bit slow but it was one waitress trying to run the whole upstairs dining area of about 10+ tables. Alexus was our server and she did a great job considering what she was trying to cover.

Yelp
The food was really good. It was my first time trying alligator and etoufee, and I really enjoyed both. The red beans and rice were so flavorful, I could've eaten that as my main meal. The alligator broth had a delicious herb and lemon flavoring. I will definitely go back the next time I visit New Orleans.

Yelp
So let's start with the positive. The food was awesome and came with huge portions. I had the Seafood pasta which was delicious with tons of shrimp and crawfish. My husband had the combo platter with fried shrimp and catfish which were both fried to perfection and came with hushpuppies and fries. We started with a cup of gumbo which was also fantastic. A little rice heavy but the flavor profile was on point. Service on the other hand left plenty to be desired. Our server, Angelo, took 10 minutes to come to the table. Did not check in very often. The worst part about the service was when he spent 15 minutes chatting with the table next to us when he hadn't checked in. I sat with an empty wine glass for that entire time and he just kept on chatting. He barely engaged with us at all and I waited another 10 minutes to get the wine when I ordered it. When we went to pay (he didn't ask if we wanted dessert or anything), we waited another 10 minutes for the check to be picked up. Again, no engagement when he clearly was engaging with other tables. I hate to play this card, but I don't know if it was because we're gay or what but the service offered to other tables was objectively better.

Yelp
This place was a mess, over priced and the shrimp smelled and looked like they had been in hot poop water. I usually will compliment the server but not even the server made the experience better. We had the po boy and it was old bread with shrimp, 1 lbs of shrimp that had no seasoning, just hot steams shrimps with what seemed they put OLD BAY on top after steaming them. I had an old fashioned that was half the cup and tasted like water and sugar. Very disappointed, the only thing that was great was the view from the balcony. The hush puppies were not fresh and neither was the shrimp on the po boy.

Yelp
First time in NOLA on the way to move to Texas so I had to find a place to try a lot of the popular favorites. This place did not disappoint!! The was food great and the service amazing! Came with good bread to help eat the extra sauce. Literally so good and was able to try everything I wanted! Blackened Gator & oysters & gumbo
google avatar

Yelp
Okay full disclosure I came in because I needed to use the bathroom ....reallllly badly. The bathrooms were sorta on the gross side but I was in no position to be picky. Afterwards we shared a fried oyster poboy and bloody mary. This was right across from French market and service was fine.

Yelp
I came here with my wife and her family. This is a two story place on a corner and gives the great New Orleans vibe. The service was pretty good as they were busy. The food was excellent as reported by the entire family. Personally, I had the blackened red fish with slice potatoes along with a cup of gumbo. I certainly was pleased with the meal.

Yelp
Happy accident. Just walking around hungry. This place had just opened for the day!! THE FOOD WAS AMAZING!! The staff super friendly.

Yelp
- NOLA's Best Seafood & Sausage Gumbo A cup of their gumbo served with rice and a slice of bread. The flavors were great, but it was a bit too salty. There wasn't much meat in it, however they might put more in if we were to get a bowl. - Combo Po-boy (Catfish & Popcorn Shrimp) The bread on this po-boy was so crispy yet soft! I ate the popcorn shrimp separately, and added the lettuce and some tartar sauce to the catfish po-boy. The catfish was breaded and fried beautifully. Unfortunately, the popcorn shrimp were small and pretty average.

Yelp
Honestly, most times we've gone have been great. But this last time, I was underwhelmed. The upstairs servers were more concerned with their phones than the tables. The food was great, but my god the service was lacking massively.

Portia F.

Yelp
The food was good. We asked the waitress if there was an upcharge to substitute a side. She didn't know. She exasperatedly asked her team members that were behind the counter. They responded $2 or $3. We advised her that the 3 of us would be paying separately. She hastily responded, "We don't split no tickets." Ok, so we ordered. The food was delivered. We ate. She eventually made a 2nd visit to our table to present our ticket. The substituted item was $5. We asked if that was an error since you said $2-$3. She walked away without saying a mumbling word. After a while another woman appeared. She didn't identify herself. She stood and stared at us. We decided she must be mgmt. We told our story. She said, "It's $5." Looked at us and walked away, slowly. No. We were not rude. We weren't demanding. We were cordial. No reason to be treated poorly. We surmised the manager trained the waitress well. The other server was much more attentive to her tables. So.... prayerfully you'll have a better experience. However, they won't receive another penny from this party of 3.

Yelp
Stopped in a whim as I was hungry after a long walk. The seafood boiling pots in the window called me in. Ordered the signature grilled oysters, and they did not disappoint. Bursting with flavor of the sea, these were happy crunchy bites of grilled oyster with melted cheese, a homerun over the fence. Then had the New Orleans tradition of Red Beans and Rice with a grilled sausage. Now I am Puerto Rican, born and raised on perfect PR rice and beans. This New Orleans version was just amazing, it was so good it had me in tears as the beans had chunks of pork in it, and depth of flavor. I saw happy diners all around me, and I saw fried seafood of all varieties that will definitely bring me back again.

Yelp
Boils are a 7/10, customer service, 0/10. Our waiter stood around for 10 minutes before asking us for our drinks and then sat around. He did not offer any refills, left our beers sitting on the bar for about 10 minutes before serving them. We could not ask for a single thing and expect to get it, and it wasn't even busy!! The bartender upstairs was doing everything while the waiters sat around so props to her!! Would not come back .
google avatar

Erica J.

Yelp
The food here is really good the grilled oysters were great, the bloody Mary's were awesome my husband loved the jambalaya and I was really looking forward to the gumbo I ordered but it never came. The service was bad. At first it was kind of cute....gave you that "down to earth" at a grumpy grandmas house kind of vibe. But then not so much. After we got all our food and waited a while I told the waitress to cancel the gumbo. She walked away without saying a word. Then after a while she came back with the bill. It still had the gumbo and an order of egg rolls we never ordered. AND there was a 20% gratuity added to the bill. It was. Party of 2 so I wasn't expecting that to be automatically added. Plus the 20% was undeserved. I realize the service was probably bad because she knew she was getting her tip either way. So the waitress took the receipt and brought us another receipt with the correct amount on it but I don't think she actually corrected the amount she charged. We checked our bank statement/ transaction and it was never corrected. All I can say is the food was good.

Yelp
Walking by after a Ghost tour, we were drawn in by the incredible smell of boiled seafood. It was a Sunday night and the place was busy but there was seating available. We ordered a couple pounds of crawfish and a dozen grilled oysters. The server was on his game constantly checking in and filling our glasses. The crawfish were hot and spicy. Sizes of the crawfish varied but all were delicious. The grilled oysters were big and meaty and served with some warm crusty bread. On a side note: the bathrooms are on the second floor so climbing stairs is essential if you have to go so keep that in mind if you have a knee, or foot injury.
google avatar

Athena B.

Yelp
We were walking on the street when we saw the chef scooping out crawfish from the boil from the window of the restaurant so we stopped in. We obviously went with the crawfish boil and also got hush puppies and blackened catfish. Really cheap meal for 2 of us. Everything had great flavor, but definitely over salted. I definitely recommend sitting on balcony if you dine here - It has a lovely view + we were able to listen to live jazz playing across the street.

Yelp
Just after getting settled in our hotel, three of us decided to make a late round in the Quarter and find dinner and drinks. Traditional New Orleans tastes!! It is usually pretty busy and we were lucky to get a table in the back. Service is with a smile and good recommendations for food and things to do in the area. It's a little loud but we wouldn't have it any other way being steps off Decatur Street. We shared small plates with crab cakes, shrimp and crab dip, spoonfuls of gumbo and bites of pecan pie. When in NOLA enjoy the local craft beers- Albita Turbo Dog and a Faubourg lager hits the spot!

Lori S.

Yelp
I've called the phone number and e-mailed numerous times over the last 4 weeks and cannot get them to answer. I wanted to make a reservation for a large group. Used all of the different options on their voice mail. No response. Seems the only way to reach the owner is to write a 5 star review. Then you get a thank you. : )

Daniel C.

Yelp
Food is great! Service the last two times we have been in has been less than average! We love coming here as the service, food and atmosphere have been great! Not lately! Who ever owns this place needs New management! What a shame!
google avatar

Fetima W.

Yelp
My sister and I specifically came for seafood! The smell walking by is enticing and draws you in. The inside is very spacious and there is an upstairs and downstairs. We waited longer than we would have liked before being greeted by our waiter, but he was very friendly and attentive after introducing himself. We had oysters and the crawfish boat. The 1/2 dozen oysters were delicious. Cooked well and good seasoning. The crawfish boat was extremely hot and spicy, my lips were purple. It was not enjoyable to eat through that type of heat. I prefer spice and seasoning, but someone was clearly negligent in the amount of seasoning they used. The crab legs were rubbery. As if they were cooked too long. It was impossible to crack them. I could literally bend the crab leg without it breaking. The crab meat was so incredibly salty, I would have never thought I was eating snow crab. Super disappointing. In all, I'm glad we tried this place, but would venture out somewhere else, next time.

Yelp
Visiting here from California and stopping thru. Nice clean spot at end of the Quarters, near the French Market! Nice gentleman name Jeff greeted us as we were walking, so we decided to stop in and eat. Our waiter Carl gave Us EXCELLENT service! The Gumbo was DELICIOUS!! And the raw Oysters were FRESH and yummy! Lots of delicious things on the menu that I want to try next time I'm in town! I definitely would recommend the spot if your in the Quarters!
google avatar

Tommy D.

Yelp
Wow, the crawfish here was terrible and expensive. We also ordered fries and those were fine. There were so many dead crawfish. You can even see them in the pic. It was almost $15/lb and so many were dead. The server even acknowledged it at the end when we brought it up but didn't even offer to give us a discount or anything. If you need to use the bathroom, you gotta walk up some steep steps so good luck to those with difficulty walking. The ambiance was okay but I felt icky. By the way, there's a card charge that they AUTOMATICALLY tack on without asking you. We paid with cash. Awful experience, really.
google avatar

Jeff D.

Yelp
Wow, we were so looking forward to eating there, maybe even sitting on the roof terrace area. It all fell apart with the unhelpful hostess. First she said there were no available seats upstairs. Then, with no customer service at all, no friendly greeting, she hastily pulled together a table for four, led us to our spot and walked away. Nobody showed up with menus. The vibe was so unwelcoming. So distant. Guess what, we stood up, walked out and glad we did. That's no way to welcome your customers. We found a better alternative a block away.
google avatar

Joe Y.

Yelp
I went here for the crawfish boil. I added the corn and sausage for $6 to add a little variety. The boil had just the right amount of seasoning. My partner thought it was a little too spicy though. I would say it was about a 4/10 on a spice scale.
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
Don't eat there after sundown because there is no such thing as customer service. Walked in hostess had the nastiest attitude like rolled her eyes as soon as I said hello. Never said hello back just gestured for me to follow her. Laid the menus on a table and then walked off. My husband gestured for me to come up stairs. We went up stairs and it was worst. 10 minutes before we got a simple drink request but their was three wait staff talking. As I stood there three ladies did get up and walkout. That should have been my sign but the smell was delicious from the road. The white girl was friend and we did decide to sit outside but our waitress showed up with you guest it an attitude. We order the oysters with the garlic seasoning is delicious! Ambiance is very dim.

Yelp
I only gave this establishment 1 star because it won't allow me to give zero stars (or negative stars for that). We first walked in here on Friday evening with a group of 10 to be seated. The hostess didn't say a word to us upon entering; just stared at us until we asked for a table of ten, indicating we would like to sit on the upstairs balcony. She responded that the upstairs was closed, to which I asked "will it be open later in the evening if we walk around and come back"? The hostess very rudely responded "I don't know. I just got here". She then started fanning herself with a menu, so I asked if the AC was broken (it was very warm and muggy inside). She then responded "I just got here and I don't know what is going on" and literally walked away from our group. At that point, we assumed the place was just having an off night & decided we would try again later in the weekend....... We came back this afternoon, this time with a party of 6 for lunch. We decided while walking in that we would sit at the bar so that separate checks would not be an issue for our server. We just so happened to be discussing it as we walked in, and I said to my group "I mean, it's not like they know if you come in as a party of 6 (laughing & being playful". The manager then intervenes on our conversation and says in the nastiest of ways "actually, we do know and for that, I'll seat 3 of you downstairs and 3 of you upstairs at the other bar" with a smug smile. At first, several in my party laughed thinking she was joking, but we quickly realized she was not. She kept it going, making snarky comments with no shame - the most blatant display of disgraceful customer service I have ever seen. At another point, one of the girls in our party even said "she's not playing. She's being snarky and sarcastic to Charlene (me).", to which she said "yes, I am". At this point, my husband said "I'm not supporting this place, let's go." The manager gave us another snarky smile and a disgraceful, sarcastic wave and said "there's a bar for y'all next door". While we were walking out, there was another party of 13 looking at the menu. We told them what just happened, and they followed us to Saint & Sinners on Bourbon Street for crawfish where we are all enjoying lunch and drinks with wonderful service. Disgusting, disgusting people working here. Shame on them, and shame on the owners and management team for supporting this type of behavior at their establishment. I wouldn't step foot back in here, and have already spread the word on Facebook and other social media platforms - stay far, far away. Yelp and Google are full of terrible reviews about this place, so this is clearly not an isolated incident. The best thing consumers can do for this place is show a lack of support so that they can restructure. Do better.

Yelp
We ate here and it wasn't the best experience at all compared to every other place we tried in the French Qtr. My brother ordered a draft beer that wasn't cold, soggy fried green tomatoes, the crawfish boil wasn't bad at least. $23 for blackened chicken Alfredo is not only overpriced but lacked Cajun taste at all. Our waiter was either over sat or didn't care enough to check on us at all. The atmosphere wasn't bad and was the only reason I have at least a 1 star. Definitely better spots if visiting.
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
This is worth the stop! Everything was cooked to perfection, so flavorful, and the batter was light and spiced just right! The service was fast and server, Victor was great! It right in the heart of the French Market and a great place to feel like a local.
google avatar

Joseph E.

Yelp
At first glance when we looked inside the restaurant, I only saw customers at the bar. All of the tables were empty, but we still went in because this place was recommended by someone who used to live in New Orleans. I really enjoyed what we ordered here at The Original French Market Restaurant, but I do believe you can order the same plates elsewhere for a tad bit affordable. What I really wanted to order was out of season, but I stuck to choosing their oysters. This was the first time I had oysters the way the French Quarter does it, and it was soooo good! The others I was with also really enjoyed the crab legs and the jambalaya. They both keep raving how much they loved the crab and the jambalaya! The server was very friendly and the service was pretty quick. I definitely recommend this location if you're looking for a more upscale, but casual style setting.

Yelp
The service was great and the garlic herb charbroiled oysters were delicious!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
I want to provide positive feedback for this restaurant, but it is impossible. I asked to sit upstairs in the outdoor area, but instead, we were seated downstairs by a door, and it smelled like sewage. This was because the servers upstairs "were not ready." Then, when I asked the "manager" when the area would be open, he looked at me and shrugged--no care or concern in the world. Our server was friendly but was overwhelmed by having multiple large parties sat in his sections. It took a long time to get our drinks and food. The people who came after us (by 15-20 minutes) received their food and left before us. When I tried to let the "manager" know of our issues, I was told the server had a big party. I wasn't sure how or why a party had precedence over other paying customers. And I expressed this concern. As I talked to him, the food came out, and he had some expression like I should have just been patient. I didn't like it. On top of it all, the food was COLD! At that point, I was over it. We ate the food and received a bill with a 20% service fee. Needless to say, there wasn't a tip added. Please don't waste your time, money, energy, or good New Orleans vibe by visiting this restaurant. It caused me stress, and I feel like my money was wasted on my nice family vacation.

Yelp
10/07/22 Lunch We were hot, tired and starving like hostages after spending the morning wandering aimlessly around Bourbon Street and the French Market. We decided to stop in and have lunch at the Original French Market Restaurant. Apparently, everyone else had the same idea because the 2nd floor was full of hungry tourists like us. We ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes, Grilled Oysters and a Catfish Po'Boy. I love tomatoes, but have never tried Fried Green Tomatoes until now and I am not a fan. It was sour and served with some weird Gravy. The grilled oysters were the first we had since arriving in NOLA and were delicious! Highly recommend. The catfish po'boy was also very good. The po'boys are so much better here in NOLA than anywhere I've had them in the Bay Area. The Original French Market Restaurant is definitely more of a tourist trap because of the location but the food and service were excellent.

Yelp
Great charred oysters and service! A surprise spot that will make your tastebuds tingle with delight.

Yelp
It's a popular, fun Decanter Street restaurant and bar established in 1803 located in the French District. The food prices range from in the teen prices and up. You can order all New Orleans popular southern dishes--gumbo, jambalaya, grilled catfish, shrimp creole etc. and alligator dishes. Very casual place for drinks at the quiet bar on the first floor as well as upstairs. It was a packed busy place when I was there on a Sunday afternoon. The only fault was the front hostess who would not place you in areas you want to be seated. Instead, you may be seated in the bar vicinity instead of the window location. If you want a glass of water, you will be delivered a glass with a hunk of lemon and iced water. Very delicious water! The waiter was cordial and very attentive. His helper brought out the hot food. Definitely, a fun place of NOLA flavored epicure. Foodies would enjoy this place.

Yelp
7-29-23: Decided to grab dinner over at The Original French Market Resturant Est 1965. This location on the corner of Decatur and St. Phillip, which had been running strong for over 150 years as a restaurant prior to the 1965 purchase. The Creole-style seafood and spicy dishes quickly gained popularity with locals and travelers alike, making The Original French Market Restaurant and Bar a mainstay of New Orleans cuisine. For myself, ordered the Red Beans & Rice with a piece of Catfish. (Chef's Kiss).

Yelp
Let me start with our fabulous waiter Asante! He was very warm and attentive and made our children feel very comfortable and even laugh after a long day of activities in the city! He will lighten your mood and his outlook on life is refreshing! If you visit, ask for him by name! Now to the food......the gumbo was second to none! OMG!! If you're thinking of ordering the cup, go for the bowl. It's THAT good!! The shrimp Alfredo was creamy, fresh and delicious. Our daughter said it was ALMOST as good as mom's. That is quite the compliment from a 12 year old! I had the bayou platter. The Red Beans and Rice were quickly devoured, and had the most authentic taste you can find. The Jumbalaya was equally delicious. Dessert of triple layer chocolate cake is a MUST!! OMG!!! Delicious! The pecan pie was a close second. Make sure to take the time to enjoy this eatery if ever in NOLA! You won't be disappointed!!

Yelp
Tonight was the second time I've dined here. I go for the boiled crawfish. Two years ago I had the full tub which is 2 pounds and they were good bur not great. Tonight they were under purged, over salted, and over cooked. I could barely eat them. We ordered the jambalaya and it was not good either. The only good thing I can say about the place is that the serving staff were top notch. I will never go back.

Yelp
my niece wanted boiled crawfish and the French Market a restaurant didn't disappoint! crawfish were excellent! Also had chargrilled oysters which were plump, flavorful and much better than another more well known restaurant. Angelo was our server, he was professional, kind and just an all around good guy! We loved our experience there!!

Yelp
The only good thing about this place was the balcony sitting with an amazing view of Decatur Street, the French Market, and the CBD high-rises in the distance. Everything else was bad. Service was really slow, albeit friendly. Food was bad and expensive. We got the chargrilled oysters, which were chewy and overcooked and took forever to arrive to our table. We got gumbo, which was watered down and bland. The jambalaya tasted like onion rice. Then, to top it off, a 20% gratuity was automatically added to our bill without any notice (plus $2.13 extra for card payment). We let it slide since it was New Year's Eve. This was the last restaurant we tried in NOLA during our New Year's Eve trip to New Orleans, and it ended the trip on a bad note. I would NOT recommend this place.

Yelp
First, I want to say that 2 years ago, I ate one of the best meals I'd ever eaten at the Market. I have long awaited to bring my wife to NOLO, so she could try the food. Now, tonights visit. We chose a table upstairs to dine at. Over ten minutes went by before two waiters came by and asked if we'd been helped. On both occasions, they said they would be right back only to not return. We almost walked out then, but the food is so good, I let it go by. During our wait, we saw that the dishwasher was upset at the way he was being treated as he was banging dishes around and cussing the waiters under his breath, although it was loud enough we could here it from our table. Within minutes, one of the waiters and the dishwasher were screaming at each other. Within another minute, the verbal altercation turned into a physical fight right in front of everyone. Two more waiters tried to separate the two and eventually physically removed the washer, while the waiter assured everyone that everything was OK. One minute later, the dishwasher reappeared and came back into seating area, rushing the same waiter screaming at him. The waiter punched the washer in the face, knocking him senseless to the ground. We had had enough and walked downstairs, along with other patrons, fearing that the situation was only going to get worse. Once reseated downstairs, we had to reorder our food because the waiter never turned it in upstairs. More wasted time. When I told the staff downstairs what happened, I was told that I shouldn't be surprised because with so many restaurants in NOLA, it is hard to get good workers. I had to ask the manager to adjust the bill for the experience we had to go through. I would have expected them to comp us the meal, but they only took off 25%. What a joke. I will never step foot in that hell hole again!

Yelp
Fantastic ambiance, delicious food and wonderful superstar staff are a perfect trifecta! Crawfish were fresh and just spicy enough, their colossal shrimp were perfectly boiled as well and were so sweet and meaty! Their version of the charbroiled oysters is more cheese heavy than anything else so was a teeny bit disappointed that there was no garlicky buttery oyster juice ladened goodness to sop up the bottom of the plate but still a must order! Jambalaya was on point and their fried green tomatoes were beautifully fried and hearty. Definitely a spot for a return visit on our next trip to NOLA and yours too!

Yelp
Excellent boiled crawfish. The patio view is nice if you can get it. Staff was overwhelmed so the service dipped a little bit but they were working hard.

Yelp
We came where for a quick bite to eat. Despite the heat increasing, I wanted to sit outside in the balcony. Luckily they had a few tables available and upstairs we went. I ordered their half boat of crawfish, a cup of Gumbo and a 1/2 dozen order of their charcoal grilled oysters. Shortly after placing my order, I was informed that they had ran out of oysters. I was visibly upset because it was lunch time. They barely opened. How could they run out? She apologized and asked if I wanted something else. I angrily politely declined. She still carried herself in a very professional demeanor and she didn't let that ruin my meal. She brought out our crawfish and upgraded my cup of Gumbo to a bowl. I enjoyed the Gumbo from here a lot better than at the Gumbo Place. This gumbo had more seafood and a lot more flavor. It was also my first time eating crawfish. I made my best attempt in eating these and felt like I had an inconsistent success rate, despite watching YouTube videos on how to ear these. I really liked the nice kick that these had and enjoyed every bite of these. As we were walking out you could see where they get steamed. Not sure if all the orders get cooked there, but it gave our such a pleasant smell. This place has a lot of mixed reviews, and I know there was a hiccup at the beginning, our server made it right and I wouldn't mind returning next time I'm in town.
