Texmex in Round Top. Nice atmosphere, good food, cold frozen margaritas. Worth the drive.

I have never not left a tip at any dining experience. Today was the exception. From the moment we were sat, our waiter was so rude. There were 3-4 tables sat when we arrived. One of those was finishing up. We do not live in Round Top and had never been to this restaurant. My mom tried to order a Coke Zero and he told her there was only diet. She asked if it was Pepsi or Coke and he snipped at her and said Pepsi. I ordered a half sweet half unsweet tea and he just stared at me like I was crazy. Then snipped at me that they don’t have tea. We got drinks and eventually he came back to take orders. My friend asked if we could get chips and salsa and he snipped at her “we’re working on it!” We had a table of 4 adults and a table of 4 kids. He brought us one basket of chips and one bowl of salsa. When we placed our order for food, more snippy rude attitude. Then it took an hour and 10 mins to get our food! We all had nachos, a tostada, and enchiladas. Lunch specials. Other tables were also annoyed that their food took over an hour. The food was disgusting. Half of the kids didn’t even eat their food. The only positive I can give them is that the salsa was really good. I am not one to normally have negative things to say, I hustled don’t return if I didn’t enjoy it. But this dining experience was all around horrible.

We came here about 2 years ago in the spring and were pleasantly surprised. not much to look at, but really great food, great service - everything was great. Second trip later than year was much the same. Had a good chat with the manager, and learned this was owned by a company with a high end restaurant in Houston (Armando’s?). That explained the overall quality of the experience. High five! Two years later - 180 degree experience from today. Place either needs extra help or a manager. Tables were not bused and service was slow (although very nice youg ladies). We chalked it up to unexpected traffic from George Strait concert. Queso: delicious! its always interesting to me that something so simple seems to hard to make well. They did a great job, along with very good chips, and a tasty salsa. This is reason for the two star. Fish tacos: worst I’ve ever had. The other fish taco order at our table was the same. The other two orders of enchiladas were just ok. However, fish tacos: You could smell the fish as it was delivered. You should never smelled fish like that. The breaded fish was so deeply fried I could not bite through it, but crunched through it to find mostly dried out fish in small amount of batter. The corn tortilla fell apart right away, and then I noticed the movement. Yep, a bug. Looked like a weevil, probably from the tortillas. So, fish was not fresh, over fried, little taste except fishy oil flavor and stale infested tortillas. Yes they comped and apologized, but it was really bad.

We drive 25 mins. to go to the Mandito's, in Round Top. We love the fried-flour tortilla chips and tacos shells. Last visit, we got there early abt. 11 am. We could not get a batch of chips that were not steal and hard to chew, we tried 3 different batches. We were so disappointed!

Google
The food is always delicious! They just added a street corn dish to their menu and it is phenomenal! Been trying Mexican Street all over the western United States for the last couple of months and this is far and above the very best I have ever had! Not sure what the secret ingredient is but the crumbled Takis on top sure make this dish pop! Very friendly management and staff. Little out inside when they get very busy but that is to be expected

It was freezing in there if I had to guess the thermostat was set around 60 degrees. The food was not very good in my opinion especially for the price. The waitress was very nice and attentive.

My husband and I brought our family here for lunch. I remember this place actually being good at one point. Queso was gross, my kid wouldn't even eat it. Beef enchiladas were not good... what kind of cheese was that? Velveeta? Only thing that was decent was the margaritas. They tasted wine base but not bad. Our waitress was really nice.. but I know she had no control over the quality of the food. We will not be returning unfortunately.

Google
This place offers an excellent front porch to take in the square of Round Top! Very family friendly. Lots of young families there with kids. The skinny margaritas are so good! My family and I enjoyed a nice lunch of steak nachos & a burrito. Both were pretty good. The service was a bit slow but not holding that against them! Every where is short staffed due to the surge in Covid. So be prepared and be kind to those who actually showed up!

Yelp
This place is just so-so. Service was great, but food was really blah. Chips were soggy, salsa tasted like it was from a can, and our meals were nothing to write home about. I really don't think I'll be back.

Kelli R.

Yelp
Terrible queso tasted old and burnt. Guacamole also seemed store bought not freshly made. Very thick tortilla chips and difficult to chew. Salsa was bland and had a canned roasted tomato flavor. Not like it used to be. Happy hour margarita was $5 but only 4oz .

Costas V.

Yelp
One star for the location and the waitress who seemed like a nice kid. As for the food, they desperately need a good cook and a better menu. The guacamole was straight out of the supermarket shelf, the Baja Tacos were fish sticks that were overcooked. Not good!

Yelp
We went for lunch ordered I said no onions and this was pretty quick and got drinks chips quick. We ran out of drinks chips salsa our waitress stood at another table talking about school for over 20 minutes. She didn't even check on us when she left that table. Finally she came over and said food wasn't ready did we want more drink amd chips we said yes. After 15 minutes she came back apologized for food not being ready. I still was not upset at this point a bit irritated but ok. She finally brings my husbands food and asks me if I want the pico and cabbage it has onions. Why she didn't ask before she brought my husbands food not really sure. I told her no pico but wanted cabbage could she make sure it had onions. She leaves comes back and my husband is half done with his meal she has tacos for me and says she had them put lettuce on the tacos without asking me because the cabbage does have onions. I don't like lettuce on my fish tacos it gets wilty. I am really upset at this point and I have already taken my insulin I am type 2 diabetic and need to eat so my sugar didn't bottom out. I scalped the lettuce off ate half the tortilla with just cod and creama it was horrible. She comes back and asks how the food is I say horrible. She says sorry and walks away. A manger never came over they still charged us for the meal. If she had just come back after I ordered and let me know about the onions I would have ordered something different but I was never asked or given that option at any point. I will say my husband loved his food and the salsa was good.

Yelp
This place is awful. Horrible customer service. Waited 15 mins to be seated then left after the waitress didn't come to our table 10 mins later without water or chips. My mom had a similar experience when she came. We left and went next door to roundtop brewing and they seated us right away with chips and salsa.

Heather M.

Yelp
Good food in a perfect location after you need to refuel from lots of shopping. They were very busy so service was a little slow but totally understandable. I loved the sangria swirl margarita! That was excellent. Get the big one, you won't regret it. Lots of flavour in the food and the queso was great too.

Kam B.

Yelp
We were staying in Burton and looking for a close food spot. There aren't a lot of places open during the first part of the week so we landed here. The chips and salsa were delicious. The margarita was just okay, could have had more ice. The street tacos with steak were delicious and seasoned very well. My daughter loved her charro beans and queso enchiladas, but noted that the queso was a little spicy. My husband loved his cheese enchilada with gravy. We will definitely be back in the future.

Bo B.

Yelp
Not a lot of choices for drinks. They ran out of topo Chico and gave us cloudy tonic water which tasted like lime water. Food: Carne asada - ok; meat was a bit tough and there wasn't much on the side to put into each tortilla Baja fish tacos - good

Karen C.

Yelp
Chips and guacamole were the best thing. Beef tacos, beans and rice had absolutely ZERO flavor.

Giavanni B.

Yelp
This place was horrible! There was nobody there but somehow the queso was still cold. And all the food tasted terrible even the drinks were bad. I had a sprite and somehow it tasted like flat sprite with dirt sprinkled in it. NEVER GO HER EVER!!!!!!

Ida W.

Yelp
The wait staff was courteous Margaritas also good. The "beef meat" was not real, possibly plant based, but the waiter denied it was. The "beans" weren't real either, possibly lentils? Didn't bother to ask after he lied about the meat. Will not be going back.

Loyd B.

Yelp
We came here during the Antique festival and the food was amazing! Excellent menu selections, everything was seasoned to perfection. We went back today (Not Antique festival). The menu was much smaller and the food couldn't be more plain tasting! The salsa had 0 flavor; we added lots of salt in an effort to help the flavor. But not much improvement! The queso was just as bad. We had to ask for napkins, no tables had napkins. The taco meat in the tacos and burritos was just browned ground beef. Zero seasoning! So it seems the owners/cooks could give a rats ass about returning customers. Unless it's Antique season. However I'm pretty sure what we did eat will keep us alive till morning.

Yelp
Such a shame ... in all of Round Top a sucky Tex-Mex place .. mediocre food .. weak margaritas and terrible service ... don't waste your time here... some please open a great Tex Mex place !

Jenna K.

Yelp
This place was super cute!! It was very centrally located in Round Top TX. You could tell that this was a very popular place. If you come, sit outside! It's nice to watch the cars drive by on the front porch. The guacamole is AMAZING!!! Their chips and salsa were extremely fresh, you could tell it was made in house. They know what they are doing. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because the rice was a little undercooked and the beans were as well. They were a little hard. Overall, I would definitely come back here! Super fun to come here and sit down after a long day of walking and shopping.

Briggs B.

Yelp
Food excellent! Great fajitas!! Awesome service. Way better than the complainers reviews.

Beth P.

Yelp
Got to restaurant at 7pm on Sunday before the Fall Round Top Antique Show. Manager overwhelmed to say the least. People were upset for waiting so long for a table. Bar was a mess with dirty glasses, plates and no one tending bar. Under staffed was the least of the problems. We were the last ones seated after having 2 parties seated ahead of us even though we were ahead of them. Turned people away an hour before close. Great guacamole, good food. Great waitress. Found out they travel by bus from Houston and will be working 10 days in row from 9am to 11pm. Possible labor law violations not sure what Texas laws are.

Dan S.

Yelp
I have been eating here for years. Food is becoming just good and there is never enough sauce on any item!!! Enchiladas to fish tacos they never have enough of the main ingredient, the sauce. Crew seems to lack a sense of urgency.

Claudia F.

Yelp
There's a weird smell when you walk in to the restaurant, I later found out that it's from the bathrooms located to your right. The food was Tex-mex. Not the best, we ordered ceviche and were told that it wasn't ready, it was 3pm. We only stopped here because it was the only place open on a Monday. The only thing we liked was the chips and salsa. The enchiladas verdes were missing flavor.

Breanne C.

Yelp
This restaurant was horrible!!! So disappointed because the exterior is super cute. We had a party of 20 and not one person enjoyed the margaritas or the food. I personally ordered the skinny margarita and it was very weak and the 'fresh lime' was definitely bottled like juice. Very artificial tasting. The rice was cold and the beans had so much bacon grease it was disgusting. Do not order the fish tacos unless you want to be sick the next day. Service was super slow and our birthday churros were handed to us as we were walking out the door. It was such an ordeal to have separate checks. They need a new chef and more wait staff. 2 waitresses is entirely unacceptable. Women's restroom was also closed it if service and the entire restaurant had to use the men's restroom.

Beverly R.

Yelp
I have come to this restaurant since they have opened, and while they have had their ups and downs, it has never been as bad as it is now. What has happened. I was there last weekend What happened. Drinks are expensive and food was awful. It's almost like it was heated up in the microwave. I think y'all can do a lot better than this. OK post.

Lisa L.

Yelp
If I could give no star I would. I got there before 6:00 to order something to go. The service was not good even though the bar wasn't that busy. The food was AWFUL. The rice was like gravel and the beans were like chalk. I had a 12 minute drive and by the time I opened my meal the cheese enchiladas had congealed and turned to rubber. $17 for 2 enchiladas, beans and rice that couldn't be eaten. Expensive mistake I won't make again. So disappointed.

Theresa R.

Yelp
We were excited to try something different. We came to Mandito's , this truly was the worse food ever. It was greasy, cold and took a long time to come. The prices were not Worth it!

Patricia M.

Yelp
Most everything was great. We all ordered different entrees and all ordered margaritas. The margaritas were some of the best we've had as agreed by all. The food was good and creative and authentic. The restaurant suffers from understaffing and these days there's not much to remedy that. They experienced bathroom water outrage but handled it well. (Next door is a sister property) The only unusual dish which deviated vastly from Armando's was the Queso Fundido w/ chorizo. It was chorizo with some sprinkles of cheese over it. I didn't eat any as it wasn't very appealing to me.

Alexlee2005 H.

Yelp
This is probably the worst food I have had. For my plate I ordered the Burrito, which is covered in a yellow greasy cheese and the worst meat quality I have ever paid for. I believe it was the most expensive piece of fake meat I have ever tried. The beans were nasty and not consumable. If I could I would give a negative star review. It's so bad that it made me write first yelp review to give it a ONE star. The bathrooms ALSO smelled nasty and were very dirty, just like their food.

Michael M.

Yelp
The food was cold again. First time I have been back in 2 years. The food is not so good, and 35% overpriced. This is why the locals will not go to Manditos.

Angela J.

Yelp
Delicious! I ordered the Mole enchiladas ,my mom had fajitas and my cousin had the ceviche. Everything was so good and everyone was so nice. Our waiter was Francisco and he's was amazing and so patient. Their sangria is a must have.

Diron K.

Yelp
We were in Warrenton for the antique show and decided to go Round Top and have some lunch. We came across this place and gave it a try. I had the beef enchiladas and my wife had the chalupa. Mine was just okay. The enchiladas were fair, the rice was bad and the refried beans were fair. My wife said her chalupa was okay. No need to go back.

Megan B.

Yelp
This place was super busy on a Saturday afternoon and we waited around for a while before being seated. The lunch rush is no joke! We sat outside with a good view of the town square. Plenty of dogs and babies and couples enjoying the Texas breeze at this casual Mexican joint. The chips, salsa and guacamole were excellent. So were the skinny margaritas! I ordered the spinach enchiladas and they were soooo yummy! Better than anything I've had in a long while. The best part was the refried beans though! Super smoky and rich, they were out of this world. I don't understand the 3 star reviews other than slightly slow service. It's definitely worth stopping in while in round top. Sit back, relax and enjoy the excellent food and drinks.

Rebecca S.

Yelp
We decided to give this place a try because there are so few restaurants open during the week. All in all, it's not a bad place and I'm wavering between giving it 3 or 4 stars. The cons: service was **extremely** slow and there was only one other table occupied. After being brought waters and utensils about 15 minutes later, we finally had to walk up to the bar to ask for menus. The complementary salsa had a nice consistency but no flavor, oddly enough. As for the entrees, the Spanish rice was uneventful and mixed with a generic frozen veggie blend, and the burrito bowl needed some help. It came with white rice, which made it very bland, and needed a sauce of some kind. And, lastly, the $12 house margarita was slightly flavored water and completely meh. The pros: the refried beans are superb and you can taste smoky ham-hock. The burrito bowl was massive and could be split between 2 people, though needs salsa added. The mole sauce for the chicken enchiladas is fantastic! So rich and complex. And, the beef for the beef fajitas was well seasoned. All that being said, if we're ever in Round Top on a week day again we would stop by, but we'll be skipping the expensive lime water and sticking with regular free water.

Liz L.

Yelp
The food was excellent. The chips were fresh, hot and delicious. In addition, the flautas and enchiladas were extremely tasty. Service was prompt and efficient and the patio was cool. Will eat here again. Our server, Jessa made sure we were well taken care of.

Lillian L.

Yelp
Stopped at this place before we checked into the Round Top Inn! It was so cute inside and our server was very nice. We loved the fresh chips and salsa - finished all of them and then ordered the chicken quesadillas and the chicken burrito bowl. Both were great, and huge portions - the chicken was wonderful and had a great flavor. Loved our experience and will definitely come back if we are in Round Top again :)

Maddie B.

Yelp
We ended up going here because it was the only place open in Round Top on a Monday around lunchtime. The food was overpriced for the quality for sure. We ordered chips & queso and it was literally $7 for what was obviously just Velveeta & Rotel melted together. The burrito bowl was good but the tacos al carbon were $14 (so $7 each) and came with decent rice & runny beans. No lettuce, grilled peppers, grilled onions or any of the typical toppings for tacos al carbon, only came with some sour guacamole. Chicken within them was over-salted and fairly dry as well. Overall, none of the food was bad but not good enough for the price, or to convince me to come back. If it wasn't so overpriced, maybe I would give it 3 stars but is way too pricey for the quality of the food.

Ellen B.

Yelp
We always eat at Mandito's for TexMex when we're in Round Top, and our most recent visit was great! We love their salsa and the queso was creamy with just enough kick. We had the chicken burrito and enchiladas suiza; both were delicious. This place has a vibrant vibe and the location is perfect. The friendly staff goes above and beyond and makes the whole experience fun! Don't miss it!

Barbie R.

Yelp
This is honestly the worst Mex restaurant my husband and I have ever tried. And we tried it 3 times. First time we thought was just a bad day. 2nd time we were on our way to a Lyle Lovett concert and just got quesadillas and dips, 3rd time was enchiladas. I can't tell you how bad the lemon flavored enchilada-gravy tasted. The beans were a solid slugg of tasteless black beans Not for you. I'll save you the $$$

Tim O.

Yelp
The marinade on the chicken fajitas is amazing. Best fajitas around. My wife and I go twice a month just for the fajitas. I have eaten most items in the menu nothing has been bad but now I always get the chicken fajitas. The chips and salsa are solidly above average. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is the drinks are very average.

Ronald G.

Yelp
Close by, quick service from the kitchen. Food is hot and has good flavors. A trustworthy good meal at a fair price. Best deal around! Always clean.

Kathryn J.

Yelp
Met some long time friends here for a dear friends birthday celebration! The owner is Armando who owns Armando's in Houston. Rock solid food & drink. I was surprised we were able to get in since this is also the start of the Round Top Antiques show; shopping on steroids event that happens twice annually. Needless to say the place was a happening! Food was great as was the service. My only criticism is the bathroom. Only one per sex & if you're drinking water much less margaritas, ladies will need more than one stall. Needless to say there was a line. Back to the food! There was 6 of us. Gal Pal & I ordered & shared the Mixta Fajitas! There was plenty & it was delicious. The fajita meat was tasty & super tender as was the chicken & shrimp. It came with all the trimmings of tortillas & pico, guacamole, pico de gallo, etc.. A few others got the chicken flauntas and one got the enchiladas. The portions were large & we had plenty to share and some to take home. The guacamole & chips are spot on! Very good, all in all, we had a great time & great food!

Krissy L.

Yelp
Great service and great foos, even during a very very very busy night during Round top antique week. The margarita was great and so were the enchiladas. Service was fast and friendly considering all the chaos.

Shannon R.

Yelp
I have to say this place had the absolute best fajitas I've ever had! I've lived in San Antonio, Corpus Christi, traveled all over hill country, even west texas. This place rocked!

Austin C.

Yelp
They had some challenging times but they are definitely representing!!! They deserve an update.

KK N.

Yelp
Have loved this restaurant for years. Yesterday was a total disaster, Grade F. Very slow service, basically the waitress appeared uncaring and incompetent. Asked for waters numerous times that never arrived and finally arrived at end of meal. wrong order (asked four times for missing nachos we ordered that arri ved over 30 minutes after we had our salads and were Burnt! and it was the manager who finally offered to get the forgotten nachos who brought them to us burnt. They were Terrible inedible nachos and I have always loved them. The waitress wouldn't bring us chips and said they were out of chips!?? Then we asked a water boy and he brought the chips right out? Very watery weak expensive margaritas. ( several people at Roundtop that we shared this experience with have said they have had bad experiences and watery margaritas as well) Women bathroom was not working, and the mens looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. There was a ring of dirt in the sink. It was disgusting. We finished off with the waitress spilling left over water glasses all over my friend's back and the waitress dropped the "F" bomb, walked off and didn't even apologize. She acted like we had spilt the water on her. It was terrible and mind boggling. Not going back. We should have asked for a discount or refund but just wanted to get out of there and they didn't offer to do anything about the waitress spilling the water on my friend who had the whole back of her dress wet or even clean up the water in the chair and on table. I had to do it when they finally brought a towel. Stick with Lulu's, Prost Wine Bar, Ellis Motel, and a great new restaurant - Boon and Co. Great food, friendly, competent outstanding service and atmosphere these places - Skip Manditos.

Virginia A.

Yelp
Nice place -- friendly waitstaff, nice ambiance inside, pretty quick service (though we WERE maybe 20 minutes til closing time). We ordered the crispy tacos, plus some crema and guacamole. Holy cow -- really GOOD guacamole! Super fresh, perfectly seasoned, huge chunks of avocado! IDK, maybe the chef had to make one up fresh for us, since they were trying to close down the kitchen, but if so -- kudos for the best guacamole I've tasted in a while. And the taco meat was really excellent -- smoky-flavored, not too spicy, not greasy at all, really well seasoned. We live maybe 35 minutes away (but we live 30 minutes away from everything anyway). Mandito's will be our NEW official favorite local tex-mex place. Yay!

Keira A.

Yelp
Worst food I have ever had. Tastes like frozen microwaved food. Not even the sour cream could impress me. I had tried the chili con queso, which tasted like velveeta cheese with rotel. Next, the crispy tacos... so dry and disgusting. The enchiladas suizas... I seriously have nothing good to say. Salsa is not at all spicy here or has no flavor, salsa was dried to the plate like it had just been sitting around. Everything just looked so dry and microwaved up. The steak burrito I had was just... wow... they covered it in the disgusting velveeta queso and I couldn't even eat it like an actual burrito because I couldnt pick it up without getting cheese all over my hands. Guacamole was so gross.. please do not come here if you have any sense at all. Seriously not even %1 impressed with anything here. Slow and bad service as well, when i sat down i only got a napkin and a fork... do not recommend Mandito's AT ALL.

Avery N.

Yelp
Very over priced Food from a freezer has more flavor We had to wait an additional 30 minutes after our 15 minute wait (we ordered over the phone)

Laurie B.

Yelp
Terrible service...mediocre flavor food....chips and salas were really good which is why I gave 2 stars

Andrew L.

Yelp
Came here on my way home from Houston on a friends recommendation. I went pretty early for dinner so there was no wait and not much of a crowd. While I ended up going with a fairly light meal (relatively) this seems to be a great place to come if you're hungry. Their combo plates looked to be an unfathomable amount of food given the price. Alas I decided that would not lead to good things on the remainder of my drive. The free salsa we started out with was tasty, had a nice peppery flavor to it and I appreciated that they have chips capable of handling the fairly heavy salsa. For my entree I went with the blackened tilapia and switched in Mexican rice instead of white rice. This ended up being a really good choice as the Mexican rice was the star of the meal. The rice was super rich and had a good mild spice. Unfortunately the rice stood out as the blackened tilapia didn't have too much flavor to it. The texture was also much chewier than I would have liked. I was interested to see how guacamole went on a dish like this, but it was also fairly disappointing. One of my biggest food pet peeves is when guacamole just tastes like mashed avocados and unfortunately this fell into that category. Overall, if you're visiting round top for longer than just a rest stop I think it's a great value. However compared to the Tex mex options you can find in other areas the quality is definitely subpar.

Yelp
Food is tasty but has a bitter after taste. Chips with salsa tasted like they were fried in old grease. Yuck! Cheese enchiladas are really greasy with the cheddar they use. My favs are chicken and beef enchiladas. I wish the food was better overall but this is what zero competition gets you.

Yelp
Waited over 30 minutes for table, they had available tables. No host in site. Other people walking in asking other employees if there was a hostess. The bartenders reply was not here yet and walked away. After we were seated and we had to wait another 20 minutes we asked the busboy if we had a server. The waiter was rude asking us what was wrong that we had been waiting an hour. We asked for drinks, they didn't have what we wanted so he asked what about food. We ordered flautas and they didn't have that either so I asked what do you have since there menu is short. The waiters respond was "well what do you want" so with that we all got up and left. So the food could have been good but the service was the worst. Not worth our time. We went down the road to The Stone Cellar and had a fabulous dinner.

Yelp
This place was wonderful! The food was great but nothing compared to the guacamole and salsa was amazing!!
