A Reborn Tavern on Rush Should Open This Summer | Eater Chicago

"I’ve noticed the Original Pancake House down the street often has long lines for breakfast, which is one reason the new Tavern plans to emphasize brunch so people won’t have to wait for a morning option." - Ashok Selvam

That was a life experience at a new breakfast place for me and my sisters. The food was great. Everything was out in time No long wait the customer service was wonderful very nice respectful we had everything we needed for our breakfast. The atmosphere was amazing. we would most definitely go back. We also noticed that it was right there around the shopping center where we wanted to go so that was a major PLUS. Great area to be at.

Google
Our waiter was Christine and she was excellent she was very friendly the coffee was great they had freshly squeezed orange juice which tasted great. I ordered the meat lovers trio my husband ordered the biscuits and gravy with pancakes. All around great experience would recommend and would come back. The food portions were bigger than what we actually suspected so we had plenty of food to go but like I said a while ago great experience and I would recommend it and I will be coming back.

Our second visit to this restaurant. Our server today seemed frazzled, she was nice, but inattentive until the end. I ordered Hacienda Benedict altered to have an English muffin instead of potatoes. It was nice to be able to change out potatoes for something else. I added tomatoes as my side and they came on a separate plate which would’ve made sense if the separate plate had been cold to keep the tomatoes fresh but the side plate was just as warm as the meal plate so it seemed like an extra dish to wash. My husband added cheese to his grits what he normally does, but know they are very generous on their cheese here. The strangest thing was the bottle of Cholula they brought to the table it was in the worst container possible, one of those glass vinegar dispensers for salads, It guaranteed only one or two drops of Cholula came out on the first shake and nothing after. Best to just take the lid off.

Google
We had such a delicious brunch! Elizabeth was hands down the best waitress I’ve ever had! Her energy was amazing and you can tell she truly loves her job. She was very attentive and made the best recommendations. We didn’t have to ask for a single thing. She made our day!

It was our first time visiting, and we were really impressed! The Dutch Baby tastes just like the one we make at home! Perfectly baked, buttery, and delicious. The portions are generous, and the whole place has a warm, welcoming feel. Definitely worth the trip, and we can’t wait to come back!

Google
First time visiting The Original Pancake House and it exceeded all expectations! The food was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. What really made our experience special was our waitress, Cierra. She provided outstanding service – attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. She’s a real asset to your team! We’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great breakfast spot!

Google
First time trying this place. Everything was fresh, reasonable prices. Building is a bit outdated but dont let that distract you from eating here. Staff was pleasant and we enjoyed our breakfast. Will definitely go back.

Google
The food is absolutely amazing. We went not knowing what to expect but since our initial first visit the quality of food has been consistent as well as the service. The French toast & strawberry French toast is very good. My man had an omlet one visit and he said it was very good as well. The portion sizes are great and the way they offer condiments is also a huge plus. This quickly became my new favorite restaurant and we will keep coming back! If you haven't tried it, definitely a must. Only con, menu is a bit hard to read. Get the farmhouse with French toast and enjoy.

Yelp
The pumpkin French toast was delectable! My waitress was kind and helpful, selecting my order. We'll definitely be back again.

Yelp
Love the pancakes! Especially the pumpkin. Too bad they are a seasonal thing. Also like you can get on their wait list online so you won't have to wait when you arrive,
google avatar

Brenda I.

Yelp
This place is everything like breakfast on a Sunday morning or any morning. I can only describe this place as Home. When you arrive no matter how busy they are the wait time is reasonable. Once you arrive at your table the servers make you feel right at home with all smiles and that southern hospitality we all Love. Then, the menu options will have you wanting to order everything just to try it ranging from traditional breakfast or something fancy if you're feeling a bit adventurous. Lastly, the food arrives and oh my goodness it looks, smells, and tastes amazing. So, when the check comes you know that your money was well spent and your tummy is full. You just have to try this place if you haven't already I promise you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I am a little disappointed in myself. I had the breakfast burrito, but because I did not have high hopes for it, I did not take a picture of it. However, it was probably one of the best breakfast burritos I have ever had. I now have a new favorite When I come here. Our waitresses name was Courtney, and she was very attentive, and most importantly, made sure my coffee was always full. Onto the Apple pancake. It is just as good as we remembered from the apple pancakes we used to eat in New Jersey. As you can see the picture it was big beautiful, and it was quite tasty. The orange juice was fresh squeezed and absolutely wonderful. I recommend this place over any of the other pancake places I have been to.

Yelp
We had a wonderful experience when visiting on a Sunday morning. The restaurant itself was clean and opened with cute decorations and festive Christmas music. Our waitress Nadya was welcoming and attentive. The coffee was perfect. We both ordered their traditional eggs and sausage and asked for a side order of their challah maple banana French toast which was a perfect portion. We will definitely be going back!

Yelp
We had the sweetest waitress, her name was Miss Kelly and she is amazing!! So sweet and friendly, I think she DEFINITELY deserves a raise and acknowledgement for her skills of going out of her way to make sure that you are supplied with everything you need on her watch the food was WAY more than I anticipated in taste and quality! I ordered their new breakfast sandwich, to say that it was simply delicious would be an understatement!! The restaurant was pretty chill, we came around 11:30 on a Tuesday morning. Will definitely be back!! This is at the Fort Worth location

Yelp
The Food is not well cooked small portion of food and also the omelette tastes like a sponge but they have good service
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Service was great. Ordered the healthy choice omelette with hash brown and egg whites. Potatoes had too much salt or seasoning Waitress was perfect.
google avatar

Tim B.

Yelp
The food was hot and delicious. Our server, Sierra, was very friendly and gave us great service. I was beyond pleased with our experience and I will be back.

Yelp
Finally had a chance to try this place, and while it was good, it will be my last visit. Why? Because it's too damn expensive. I had the meat lovers breakfast with two sausage links, two strips of bacon, a small ham steak, two eggs over medium and homestyle diced potatoes with onions. Links are large & tasty. Bacon was good but I prefer thin strips. Bone in ham was very good, the beat part of the meal. My eggs were ordered over medium but came over easy. Not good but at least not overcooked. Potatoes were decent even though I prefer hash browns. Service was merely adequate, and once again, prices are way too high. My meal was almost $25 bucks before tip. I can see why the place is never crowded. I'm one and done for sure.

Cheryl R.

Yelp
This place is overly priced! 16 $ for some crêpes and you don't even get a side! So then is an additional 12$+. 5+ for an espresso and it doesn't even come hot. First time here and I personally will not be back. There are much better breakfast places for more reasonable price.

Yelp
Me and my family had driven by the original pancake house a few times and really wanted to try it out. The ambiance is that of an old diner that I didn't mind at all. It was lots of families in there and elderly couples. We were seated immediately upon entering and the service was pretty solid throughout our time there. They kept our glasses full and answered all of our questions concerning different dishes. This is a two star review mainly because of the food. The food wasn't seasoned and just lack flavor. The pancakes were above average but nothing special to die home about. Would rather cook breakfast or go somewhere else and pay more. Very underwhelming.
google avatar

Hillary P.

Yelp
The original pancake house is always hopping! There is complementary parking, however, it can be tight. Reservations are not accepted so you can expect to be during peak hours. The restaurant is large and open with a bar however due do hiring issues the bar area was closed and was being used as a waiting area. The original pancake House is always lively, and ambient noise can be a little higher than normal, but that's part of the fun. They still have their traditional apple pancakes and Dutch Baby's on the menu which are awesome but can take longer cooking times than normal so be prepared to wait for a taste of goodness. Our server, Helen, was fantastic! She was attentive and made sure we were happy with our food choices and service. We watched her work the room like a champ! We enjoyed fantastic meal, including some of the best bacon we've had in a long time! Overall great food and great service at great prices.

Yelp
Like crazy people we decided to go here on a Saturday morning. We'd only been passing it for six months, but decided to try it on a Saturday. We had nothing else to do so it was okay. The place was bustling and we patiently waited for about 40 minutes which was actually not all that long compared to other breakfast restaurants we've been to in Fort Worth. When we got seated our waitress was there immediately and took our drink order. Coffee was amazing...hot, and stayed hot in their special mugs. We ordered the 4 egg omelette (can't remember what kind) but it was great! So big we could split it. It came with pancakes and we made them blueberry. We were both stuffed when we finished. Everything was hot and tasty! Our waitress was so congenial and attentive but never overbearing! We will be back but on a weekday next time!

Yelp
I had a waffle and the bacon was delicious the only thing was I poured syrup on my waffle and the syrup was like water it made my waffle soggy..I'm not an admirer of the syrup it had no taste to it..the server was so kind and attentive..
google avatar

McKenzie J.

Yelp
The food was delicious! But normally when you make pancakes theyre supposed to be sweet, but the pancakes I got were sour (i dont know if its supposed to be that way or not) Our service was amazing but when I went to see how much the homemade cups where at the bar, the people there were on their phones not noticing us. The ambiance was nice, I had went with my dad early in the morning so there weren't too many people, and the food didnt take long to get.
google avatar

Lauris M.

Yelp
Went in a few days ago and everything was really good. Our server was so nice and gave amazing service and overall it was a great experience until it wasn't. We heard a woman scream at someone and it happened to be our server and the woman screaming was the manager. We don't know what happened but it felt completely uncalled for. Very unprofessional. We felt bad because or server was very sweet and she was very attentive.

Yelp
Just moved in the area of southwest Fort Worth and was looking forward of giving TOPH a try. What a huge disappointment, our server was new and told us so but our was messed up not one but three different time and we had to chase down other waiters for help. Our food did not come out as we ordered and we just pushed through because so much other things were going on. It was so loud and babies crying out that we couldn't even communicate with our other party. I will not be returning and IHOP with the food , service and over all dinning experience on the quieter side.
google avatar

Laurie S.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Applewood bacon, poached eggs, amazing pancakes. Service was just as good! Never had to ask for drink refills. Very nice atmosphere as well. Definitely coming back
google avatar

Brittany B.

Yelp
Great seasonal pancakes and great service. The waitress was very attentive and the wait wasn't very long given we went on a weekend. It was a busy day but still quiet enough to hear the people at my table.
google avatar

Karl R.

Yelp
Victoria was GREAT and the food and selection was FANTASTIC, she gave us everything we wanted and MORE

Paul H.

Yelp
We knew it was pricy but I left with a $33 bill inc tip for 1 person. But could have gotten past that if I didn't have to work so hard to get the server's attention. Even to pay. And there were plenty of employees. They were clueless. But I have to say the coffee was decent.
google avatar

Rose M.

Yelp
It took 20 long minutes to get a cappuccino, the bacon was so dry it was hard to chew, the breakfast potatoes were tasteless and full of grease. Salt and pepper did not improve the taste. The pancakes were good and tasty. I won't be going back.

Michael C.

Yelp
Food was excellent! The pancakes came out steaming hot and they were delicious. The best I've eaten. The service on the other hand was NOT good. Ignored us and rolled their eyes when I asked for a refill.

Yelp
We first visited the Original Pancake House in SC. The one in Fort Worth didn't disappoint. I love their strawberry waffle. They make their own strawberry syrup. My DIL loves their Dutch Babies. Great service and food.
google avatar

Yelp
Had a take out order this morning of a avocado toast and the city fit scramble. The scramble was fine but the toast was...NOT TOASTED? The moment I picked it up the whole thing folded backwards. I called the restaurant and Ivan apologized and offered for me to take back the entree to have it remade. Another 30 minutes later the toast came back and it was still sub par. With so much onion pieces it made me regret not having it on a taco de asada instead. I also had to take out multiple lemon seeds that were on the toast. I Wouldn't recommend this place - at least not for take out orders. Maybe their dine in experience in better but I won't be risking it.

Yelp
I'm sorry to report that I was extremely disappointed in my visit to Original Pancake House on Hulen in Fort Worth. My husband invited me out to breakfast for Valentine's Day, so the company was great, but the food and service were poor. His food was cold and had to be remade. My omelette was grossly overdone and super dry. I should have sent mine back as well, but it would have been embarrassing to do so. Our orange juice was expensive, as you know, but we ended up chewing it because it was so full of pulp. I could stand my straw up in the middle of the glass. The server was inexperienced on the proper method of serving. She served from an empty corner of the table without putting the food and beverages directly in front of either one of us. We had to ask for refills of coffee. So disappointing. We unfortunately sat in direct view of the front door, so I was cold all through our meal because of the wind blowing every time someone came in or out. Did I say disappointing already? And our bill was $51 !!!!

Yelp
We decided to go here not remembering that it was Father's Day morning before we arrived. It was busy with a wait. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated which was sooner than I imagined. Our waitress took our order for our drinks quickly and brought out the drinks In a timely fashion. We asked for some cream for our coffee but our cream didn't arrive until we reminded our waitress again. She was apologetic and brought it right now. It was busy so we understood that remembering everything can be tough. We ordered our meals and the food came out fast. It was exactly what we ordered and the eggs were cooked to our preferences. The bacon was cooked great. It was an awesome thickness, it was chewy but crunchy, and it had a sweetness to it that I enjoyed. Pancakes were great but I'm not surprised since Pancake is in the restaurant name. My hacienda was interesting but I actually really enjoyed it. It was like a Mexican inspired eggs Benedict. I feel if it wasn't so busy we would have had better service but since it was so busy and our table was often forgotten we had to give this place a 4 out of 5 stars. We will be back of course though.
google avatar

Yelp
They have "cloudies" for low carbers. Nice cloudie Benedict. The omelets are huge and delicious. The coffee is supreme and served with real cream upon request. Always a great time.

Yelp
Just waited at the host stand for 15 minutes. No one greeted us or told us we needed to wait, so we just stood there. Horrible service and it looked like everyone was fed up with how poor the service was. Then to see a post about roaches!? Insane actually.

Yelp
Gotta love this newest Banana Pecan Pancakes at the Original Pancake House!! Not too crowded today!! They're playing lots and lots of Christmas music!!
google avatar

Vrajhi K.

Yelp
My waitress, Elizabeth (if I'm recalling correctly), was excellent. I hadn't experienced customer service like what she gave in ages. Plus, the food was delicious.

Yelp
July 21, 2024 I did not have the best experience at the Fort Worth location. I had a group of 10 people who are wanting to dine. I used to join the waitlist feature through the Yelp app. I had done this plenty of times before and never had any issues. In my request I put 10 people as my party group and said we would arrive within 20 to 30 minutes. I successfully join the waitlist and was told to show up between 10:05 AM and 10:15 AM. My group arrived within that time frame and once we arrived, we were told it would be another 30 to 45 minutes or maybe even longer pointed out and showed up in the timeframe that I was quoted to show up in the back and said that would be fine then I did not get the name, but he did not want to be accommodating to our group. He told us that if we didn't have time to wait, then he suggested we go to another restaurant. he also told us that they usually turn off the waitlist feature on the waitlist feature on the weekends plenty of times before and never had any issues , our group decide to leave and go to a different restaurant, but I feel the way that we were treated was not fair. I talked so many times about original pancake House to my group and they were eager to try, but unfortunately that cannot happen today. I sent the company an email about the experience and have not received a response. Very disappointed
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Service was okay, food was OK. Smallish portions and really not anything I couldn't have easily cooked at home just as well (and probably a little better). Not bad, not good, just average. If I'm going out to eat and spending $25 for breakfast for two, I will probably go somewhere else next time.

Patricia P.

Yelp
Excellent food and friendly staff. Bacon is touch and go but coffee is always a winner.
google avatar

Rodney A.

Yelp
Good food. I had the Migas and pecan pancakes. They also have turkey bacon and turkey sausage. Wasn't on the menu, so that info came I clutch because I don't eat pork or beef. My son got the apple pancake- which - heads up, is not a one person item. Good coffee, I even liked the mugs. Great service as well.
google avatar

Yelp
I was invited out for breakfast at The Original Pancake House so of course I accepted the invitation. We tried the large order of strawberry crepes, spinach omelette, bacon, a giant interesting looking apple pancake and potatoes. I was a little disappointed in the crepes because it was wet and soggy on the plate and dusted in powdered sugar. I have ordered strawberry crepes before in other restaurants were it's served with dry crepes and filled and topped with strawberries and whipped cream. I much prefer that preparation. I would happily go here again and try another item from the menu. I do like that I was given a cute, tiny pitcher of cream for my coffee instead of little packets of powdered creamer. It's also cool that grapefruit juice is a drink choice and my son's girlfriend loved it.

Yelp
We are new to Fort Worth and are trying all the local establishments. This place came with a high review for their coffee on Yelp so we decided to hop in. The coffees were a little expensive at three dollars a piece however, it was excellent. Hubby had the coconut pineapple pancakes and I had their homemade corn beef hash with an egg. I got the smaller portion, however the plate was huge so that it dwarfed my food. Just about everything you order comes with two of their famous pancakes. And the heat the syrup! I thought a bit pricey get $30 for breakfast, but it was well worth a try! Oh, one more thing is that I wanted to order the bacon steaks however they were out of them... Darn it! Next time!

Scott W.

Yelp
They have some really good ancient grain gluten free pancakes that you can substitute for any on the menu.
google avatar

Yelp
It was a little but underwhelming but maybe because my expectations were really high. The food wasn't bad and the service was great but nothing stood out in particular besides the Dutch baby's! I was was really excited for hash browns and instead got smashed potatoes. The egg whites were kindve oily as well. Overall good experience but nothing spectacular! If you're going I would recommend the Dutch baby Turkey bacon and grapefruit juice!!

Yelp
Me and my long-term friend frequent OPH in Hulen for weekend breakfast on many occasions. And, our sever, Natalie, is outstanding in remembering us and showing patience as my companion and I catch up on family, work and LIFE. We enjoy her immensely and see her as an asset to OPH in Hulen. We appreciate you Natalie. Always. The Williams Family!

Yelp
Food was delicious, as always, and the service was fantastic. Elizabeth is the absolute best server.....even my son was amazed by her awesome energy!!

Laurel T.

Yelp
I you have to try the fresh squeezed orange juice! Also ask for your potatoes to be crispy and not soft, you won't be disappointed.

Kara W.

Yelp
So I'm driving ok and I'm hungry anyway, so I see this place to the right because I missed my turn so I go in and try this place and my stomach is super happy I missed my turn.

Yelp
My husband and I just had the most AMAZING service ever. Elizabeth was our waitress and she was AWESOME!!! She asked us our names and was very engaging. Thanks - Rick and Linda

Jose G.

Yelp
First time here and the experience wasn't great. I get the breakfast rush but our food took longer then expected sever would come by time after time saying the food is almost out 30 minutes passed & nothing. We finally got our food my the house potatoes were cold & not fully cooked
google avatar

Greg W.

Yelp
Pancakes are delicious. I don't know what brand of coffee they use but it is delicious as well.

Vince P.

Yelp
Ive always loved this restaurant because of the quality, made-to-order food. I've been going here for over 10 years, but this was probably my best experience due to my server, Elizabeth. She was attentive, friendly, funny, and even taught me that there are different serving styles to bacon! (Apparently bacon is either served crispy, medium, or limp, which I had no idea about) My food was delicious, coffee was always hot, and table was always cleared. Going back was already an option, but now I'll be asking for Elizabeth. GIVE HER A DAMN RAISE!!!!
