Taste History at These 7 Fast-Food Firsts

"The Wichita State University campus is home to a small brick building. It might not look like much but it’s the structure where two brothers, Dan and Frank Carney, started one of the most popular pizza chains in the world.  The first thing you might notice when looking at the original Pizza Hut is that it bears no resemblance to the chain’s now-classic red, pavilion-style roof. That’s because this building predates the debut of Pizza Hut’s iconic architecture in the 1960s. In 1958, the Carney brothers, then WSU students, had the humble goal of opening a small pizza shop on the corner of Bluff and Kellogg Streets in Wichita. Run with the help of fellow students and family, the pizza joint was a success, leading the Carneys to open another branch in Topeka. Soon, more followed. Today, Pizza Hut can be enjoyed in more than 100 countries worldwide. The original building is no longer on Bluff and Kellogg. In the 1980s, it was relocated to the WSU campus, and in 2017, it was relocated to yet another home on the campus. Although the original building no longer serves pizza, it does serve up plenty of Pizza Hut history as a museum." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Google
Very cool to see the original Pizza hut building. It’s truly just a hut but there’s some cool artifacts inside. It’s on the campus of Wichita State University. It’s free along with parking and you can spend a good half hour to hour here. Definitely worth the stop and had us craving Pizza Hut!

Google
Cute little place and it's free. I recommend watching/listening to the videos.

It’s crazy how small this store is and or was!! It’s located at Wichita state university, it says it was open but there was no one in there or I couldn’t get in. It’s so small you can see everything thru the windows. Pretty neat to see the history of such a huge company today and where they started.

Google
This is place of pilgrimage for alm the pizza lovers and Pizza Hut fans. Its a small museum within the WSU campus. Nothing outlandish but definitely has some history and nostalgia. We loved visiting this place

We showed up at 4 on a Wednesday and it was closed. 2 other people were there, and they had tried to call the number, but no one answered. You could see some of the stuff through the windows. Parking is confusing since it's mostly school parking and says you need to have a permit. It's small, and I can't imagine that you'd spend more than 30 minutes inside but I'm not sure.

Google
This is a small building, but there is lots of neat information about the brothers that started a pizza revolution! Definitely check it out if you're in Wichita.

Google
Quaint, nostalgic, informational, and free. If you're a Hut fan and in the neighborhood it's worth the detour. You won't spend a lot of time there (it's literally one room). Only downside: no merch! We would've paid good money for Book It! shirts.

Google
One room brick building which was moved form its original location and is now on Wichita State University campus. Open to the public. Museum inside includes Pizza Hut memorabilia, nostalgic restaurant table and chandelier, and info plaques. Worth stopping by even if it's closed or after hours since you can see a lot of it through the windows.

Yelp
This was so cool to see the orginal Pizza Hut Location which is now completely located on the campus of Witcha State. Simple Muesum that shows the history of Pizza Hut. Only complaint the AC was clearly not working on a very Hot day.. over all it was a great experience.

Yelp
No, you won't find any pizza. It's small, but covers a LOT of history. We didn't follow the instructions on how to follow the history. We just walked around to look at the items of interest to us. The customized Pizza Hut (PH) high tops with the button in the tongue for ordering was impressive. We enjoyed watching the old commercials. Learning that the simple name for PH was due to the sign only having room for eight characters was part of the fun of all the history. Loved it.

Yelp
This is a beautiful piece of history! I wish they could do something like that with the First White castle. This place is also well maintained, it's never too crowded, it's full of cool stuff. It gives you a great perspective of everything about pizza hut inside this one room that's a big as a master bedroom.

Yelp
I recently saw the Pizza Hut story as part of a television documentary, so this was a must see as I passed through Wichita. It's small, but interesting. I love how WSU is preserving this history. I only wish they had a gift shop. I would've loved to take home some Pizza Hut memorabilia!

Yelp
There wasn't pizza! It's a pizza museum. It is also very small. And many college students came in and sat down in the museum while looking so it became awkward.

Yelp
This is the very first Pizza Hut location, now converted into a museum for the public to tour. It is located on the Wichita State University campus and it is an iconic landmark for the Wichita tourist to visit or for the longtime Wichita resident to come to learn more about the country's largest pizza chain. There is a variety of memorabilia, including the original Pizza Hut sauce recipe that was written on a napkin. This place needs to be on every foodie's bucket list.

Yelp
Awesome place to check out for Pizza Hut history. It's on the beautiful Wichita State Campus.
