On the Grid : The Original Rinaldi's

"I think that it's safe to assume that for most of us, when it comes to sandwiches, 'more' is more. That's why you absolutely must try a sub at Rinaldi's. These things are packed to the gills with Boar's Head meats. A combo deal will yield an endless soda and a bag of chips that you can choose from an overwhelming selection. Come by and try the famous Godfather sub, or my favorite, The Mailman." - Eat.Sleep.Work.

The 11 Best Cuban Restaurants in LA

"Our idea of a good Cuban sandwich usually consists of some good bread, a firm press, high-quality ham, and spicy mustard that packs a kick. Luckily for us, Havana Sandwich Company in El Segundo constantly meets, if not surpasses, our standards, starting off with getting its bread from a local Cuban bakery. But the menu doesn’t stop at just Cubanos. With two dozen sandwiches to choose from, you’ll find all kinds of combinations, like classic reubens, vegetarian options, and various rifts on the usual Cuban sandwich. The Miami Cuban is our personal favorite and comes with the usual ingredients, plus mayo and salami. Adding some cured pork to the already pork-heavy sandwich might sound like overkill, but the extra saltiness from the salami really brings out the flavors in the other cuts. And if you’re not in the mood for pork but want to sample a Cubano anyway, opt for the roast beef version, which tastes great with melted swiss and mustard." - sylvio martins

Google
I love this place!! The food and customer service is always a 5 Star. My favorite sandwiches are the Pauly Special and Bake’s Big Bite. The Fat Boy is next on my list of sandwiches to try.

Google
Terrific little mom and pop, no frills shop for some absolutely incredible sandwiches! Basically any meat combination you can think of with all types of cheese and bread on hand. Service is always friendly, and the sandwiches are a staple in our work lunch rotation. They've also got pasta and daily specials. Parking is on the street in downtown El Segundo. I usually get there early lunchtime and it's never been an issue.

Google
Best little locals deli around! Been visiting this amazing sandwich shop since 2008, and although the atmosphere is a bit rustic, the service and cuisine makes up for it! The bread is always fresh and the portions are more than enough. They make a large and a small sandwich. It’s all I can do to finish a small one if I get a bag of chips and something to drink. The flavor combos are amazing like Turkey and lean salami, with lettuce, tomato and mayo. The staff is always smiling and kind. The time for delivery is quick. It only takes about 5 minutes to get your order and the price is still respectable. For a small sandwich, chips and drink, it’s just a tick over $15 bucks :)

Google
This was my first time in Rinaldi's and I was impressed. I love a small, delicious deli and this fit the bill. This would be the perfect place to grab a sammie to take along on a flight outta' LAX. Roast beef was fresh as the the soft French roll. Customer service was great and the bathroom was clean. I will definitely be back when in the area.

Google
Great deli food served fast and fairly friendly. The breakfast menu is very limited to a few breakfast sandwich options, but you have SO many options for an amazing lunch! VictorB

Google
Very overpriced for what you get. Sandwiches are pretty one-dimensional for being some of the most expensive I've ever purchased ($15+ for a normal size sub with turkey, tomato, lettuce, and mustard). Could get essentially the same food at Subway for a third of the price. I would recommend the restaurant add some fun and creative sauces so that you have more than mustard, hot mustard, and honey mustard to offer. More veggies too and vegan cheese would be great especially when your website advertises vegan options (all I saw was the veggie burger, which is extremely dry and has almost no flavor). Also, it's ridiculous to charge almost a dollar extra for olive oil and vinegar.

Google
The food was super mid. My sandwich wasn’t even cut in half, and the meat was just one solid slab—hardly enjoyable. 😕 I gave the place a shot because of the Eaterly hype, but clearly that was a mistake. I ended up with the most basic, uninspired Reuben imaginable.

Google
Just had a delicious and huge breakfast sandwich for a great price. The lady behind the counter was so nice to me. Thank you for offering a great value and kind service.

Yelp
Rinaldi's is a staple of El Segundo and we've been there a couple times in the past. This time I went with a neighbor during lunchtime on a weekday and the place...was...PACKED. They really seem to do amazing lunch service. There was a line and every table was full, but the staff worked fast and efficiently, delivering food to our table as soon as it was done being crafted. I got the Charlie Tuna, which may not sound particularly fancy, but delivered on quality and quantity, while being priced reasonably for the product. Whenever I have walked by on weekends in the past and seen the restaurant empty, I wondered how they were still around and surviving. Weekday lunch seems to be why, and they earn it well. Props Rinaldi's.

Yelp
After a nice early afternoon with the fam at the beach, I was hungry for a sandwich, as always. Found this place on Yelp and wanted to try it because it was less than 10 minutes away from El Porto. Parking was a little tough so the hubby dropped me off in the front. This was a little before 1 pm, so there was a good amount of ppl inside the restaurant. I was the only one in line at the time., I went to go get my water in the fridge, came back and my sandwiches were done already! Super fast!! We ordered the UCLA bruin and the Mailman. The Mailman was for me and it surely delivered! I got my two fave meats in one sandwich.. capicola and prosciutto. So good! The bread was so soft and had that good amount of mayo and lettuce to wrap it all up. As I left I noticed a line had grown behind me. Perfect timing... I will definitely come here again when we are in the area.

Yelp
Lots and lots of choices. Busy place during lunch hour, which tells you they are good sandwiches. If it's your first time, get there early so you can read the entire menu. Hot and cold sandwiches and even some entrees like pasta. Indoor and outdoor seating (on the sidewalk out front). Family run, usually very fast service. Worth a try. Enjoy!!!

Yelp
This is my go-to spot for the best sandwiches, and Friday they have a great deal on lasagna! You can't go wrong here. Ingredients are fresh, bread is soft, and if you need a quick lunch to-go they can get you out the door so fast!! If you got a flight they can make a cold sandwich in like 2 mins even when they are busy they handle business. Hot sandwich maybe 5 mins. On Friday they have "small" lasagna for just $6.95 which is a great deal for lunch nowadays you can't beat that price and it's really yummy. The business is family owned local favorite. Very friendly family with nice staff.

Yelp
This place gets busy! I have never been to this location before and I like that the service is quick and the staff is friendly. The sandwiches are also so yummy! I got the 6 inch New York Special. It was delicious and eating half was just enough for lunch. It was perfect and it had the perfect amount of meat in it and the bread was so delicious! I definitely need to come back to try a different sandwich.

Yelp
The food is amazing and the quality of it is good with reasonable prices I always go there when I want a nice healthy sandwich every thing is fresh

Yelp
Finally got a chance to try this place out. I'm impressed, they run this place like a well oiled machine with prompt service. I ordered the Italian combo and I'm happy that I did. 1st of all the bread is like a cinnamon roll in shape and it is so soft fluffy and tasty. The spread is one of the best breads I've ever had at a sandwich shop the meat cut perfectly taste fresh and really good. This place is a local gym. I definitely recommended. also, they're not shy with the meat. I ordered the small sandwich and glad I did because it was so much meat. I don't think I could eat a big one.

Yelp
discreet family owned deli in between more "gentrified" spots in gundo! i thought i'd give it a try while being in the area, and they delivered. the mailman sandwich was soooooo simple and delicious -- the most perfect morning sandwich for like $8. i have half saved for lunch! would highly recommend to swing by and pick up a sammy from here!!
google avatar

Yelp
I can definitely see the hype around this place. It seems like a little run down joint, but they do a great job with their sandwiches. I tried their pastrami sandwich and it was delicious. Unfortunately I do not recall the name - they name all their sandwiches. But I trust that when I go back I'll likely have another yummy sandwich.
google avatar

Yelp
Always a solid sandwich! They are fast and efficient. I LOVE their Diane's Lemon Tuna. It comes with Arugula and red onion on their soft house made rolls. One of my fav's! My gf loves their salami sandwich, but there is literally something for everyone. There are plenty of options to choose from. This is a no fuss place, which I appreciate for a quick swing-by-and-grab on a time crunch. Parking is easy too with serveral garages and 20 minute parking spots near by.
google avatar

Yelp
Love the sandwiches here. Small gem in the city but so delicious. We have tried the "that's it" and the Chris club both delicious

Yelp
Best travel snack to grab near LAX! Came here based on my uncles recommendation and he was so right. The sandwiches were great and they have a great selection. The street it's on is also so cute. I would definitely stop by if I was flying out of LAX for a snack.
google avatar

Yelp
Tons of sandwich options at this restaurant! I ordered the USC Trojan and it was delicious! The meat quality was great. I recommend getting the hot sandwiches instead of the cold sandwiches. My friends' hot sandwiches looked way better than my cold sandwich. Service is very kind and quick (less than 5 minutes for our party of 5 during lunch hours). Ambiance is nice with a few indoor seating.
google avatar

Sue T.

Yelp
This place is historical and been here for years! They make great sandwiches. I can't speak for the service because I'm usually in and out. Reminds me of an upper scale jersey m sandwich
google avatar

Rick S.

Yelp
This is a good sandwich spot with friendly service. They seem to be a neighborhood institution with lots of regulars they greet and welcome in by first name as if part of the family. Good Vibes! The sandwiches are tasty, I had the lean pastrami "Fireman's Special" Go big, order the large and take leftovers home or share the large. Parking in the area is typical of Downtown El Segundo, if you know how to navigate with a bit of parking karma or don't mind walking, it's easy.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and great service. The ladies that work here are extremely hospital and sweet. The environment atmosphere is old school and comfortable. It's the kind of place Kevin Arnold's dad would eat it at
google avatar

Juli B.

Yelp
Never fails... all sandwiches here are always delicious. My friend was from out of town and tried a USC sandwich for his flight home and he thoroughly enjoyed his sandwich.

Yelp
Stopped here for the first time, had some lunch. Good fresh food and had their ice coffee and was good delivered a good punch kept Me going. The staff was nice and Talkative while I was there. Will Come back again for more coffee...The ambience was laid back low key..

Yelp
If you are a South Bay native then you most definitely know of The Original Rinaldi's Deli and Cafe! Rinaldi's is a small deli that sells to-die-for sandwiches. My favorite has to be the USC Trojan sandwich! It has all that I can ask for in a sandwich. Definitely check it out if you find yourself in El Segundo. USC Trojan - Prosciutto, Salami, Pepperoni, Oil & Vinegar, Lettuce, Tomato, Italian Dressing, Provolone Hot tip: They do not have a parking lot, but you can park next door at the 99 cent store's parking structure if you want to avoid having to parallel park on the street. It is free! Instagram: @jessgoeat

Yelp
Definitely stop by and eat a delicious breakfast chorizo burrito they have vegetarian options the sandwich's are delicious

Yelp
Beautiful hole in the wall in El Segundo. The staff is super friendly and always welcoming. The food here is delicious. I've tried 7 different sandwiches and have not been let down once. I personally recommend the Loyola. Definitely come visit this spot if you're looking for a quick bite for lunch.
google avatar

Yelp
Through the hustle and bustle of Main Street El Segundo you'll find a frills type of deli shop. Personally I'm always going to get the hot sandwiches. I say yes to any of their chicken sandwiches and the Godfather which was recommended by the employee was little too much overpowering flavors for me. I like more of clean flavors from the deli cuts to shine but overall I'll revisit this shop.
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down Rinaldi's is one of the best sandwich shops on the west side. The godfather is amazing! I'm also a big fan of their pastrami sandwich ( the fireman). Super friendly staff and great food!
google avatar

Big L.

Yelp
They were very accommodating about my godfather sandwich by asking which meats I preferred- parking was easy, nice neighborhood, plus they have specials I'll try next time

Yelp
Fantastic $20 sandwich. I've been going to Rinaldi's (both locations) for a long time as a South Bay resident. I like the small town family owned and operated vibes. Today I ordered a large Turkey/Bacon/Avocado sandwich, adding cheese and jalepenos. The sandwich was great, per usual, but at a price tag of over 19 bucks for one sandwich (no chips or drink), I feel like I cannot do it again. I know, I know...inflation combined with high rent is a killer, and I bet they pay workers and workers comp premiums. But sheesh, a 20 dollar sandwich at the end of the day is a bit much. It was fun while it lasted! Thanks Again, Justin
google avatar

Yelp
Some people spend their whole lives looking for happiness; Me? I found Rinaldi's during my lunch break while working at LAX. Walking into this Deli changed my tastebuds and blew my mind. Still amazed how the place can better every time. Rinaldi's is the treasure I want to keep for myself but the world needs to see.

Yelp
Looking for a comfort sandwich that's made with a lot of love? You've found it. There's so many options to choose from that in time you'll enjoy them all! Hole in the walls are the best and hot deli sandwiches are failproof to get full! I loved that this place wasn't super crowded, but I appreciate that they had order pickup available on their website! It's hard taking a toddler places so ordering ahead to go was awesome and I find many deli's don't do this the same way. Go for the hot specialties, you won't regret it
google avatar

Roch B.

Yelp
Thank you for the fresh Boar's Head meats and that soft pillowy bun for my sandwich. It was so cushy I felt like I could lay my head down on it and take a drooly nap. It was good but not remarkable. You gotta hit it this stuff with some of those seasonings...oregano, salt and pepper. And I'm not saying kill it, I'm just saying a touch...some depth. Maybe even throw a slice of cheese on the sandwich. I know I know...that evil cheese can be constipational and even hit peoples' allergies the wrong way! But I'd rather have cheese as the thing to refuse versus the thing I have to ask for, only to see it tacked on to my bill. And don't get me started on a fresh dill pickle spear. I know Boar's Head makes good ones...sure would be nice to have one along with that sandwich. But I get it...post-Covid, everybody's hurting, staffing issues, The NRA, inflation, ChatGBT, yada, yada. But seriously, just gimme the pickle.

Yelp
Amazing sandwich spot with tons of delicious options. Located on Main Street in El Segundo you can usually find street parking (metered) near by. I've been a couple times now and each time the giant subs last for a least a couple meals. My first visit I obviously had to try The Godfather (Large $15). WOW. Not only is this thing huge it is stacked with yummy salty meats. 5 to be exact: ham, salami, pepperoni, roast beef, bacon, topped with melted provolone and mayo, lettuce, and tomato. While a bit overwhelming to hold, it tastes just as it looks - warm, cheesy, meaty, salty goodness. Definitely not an every day type of sub but great after a day/night of too many drinks or treat yo self moment. My second trip opened the door to the Fireman sub (Large $15) and the Philly (Large $15) . The Fireman is filled with lean pastrami, mustard, pickles, swiss or provolone cheese (I went provolone). Again a giant size and perfectly warm with that perfect brininess from the pickles. Not surprisingly the Philly, while simple, also was a solid choice. My last trip introduced me to the Meatball sub (Large $15). You have the option between beef and turkey (I went with beef) and I was not disappointed. The meatballs were large, moist, and well seasoned. Topped with melted mozzarella and marinara sauce what could be better? All in all this is a great stop if you are looking for large subs with unique combinations plus your standard ones.

Yelp
I had to go for the Roast Beef Sandwiches. My lunch crew and I were here Friday, and it was our first lunch here near the beach. Rinaldis have good sandwiches. Fresh bread and good drinks here. Almost like a Mom and Pop Deli. Nice staff and good sandwich. May be our go to spot.
google avatar

Allen M.

Yelp
Legit sandwich joint. Menu's a little wonky sometimes but the foods pretty good. The staff is friendly. Good neighborhood spot. Bread could be a bit better tho.
google avatar

Megan K.

Yelp
If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! First, the staff was so nice and helpful. I got the Godfather and it was delicious. The bread was so fresh - like homemade bread. Then it was full of meat. I live out of town but I will be back, for sure!
google avatar

Coellee B.

Yelp
Good. Not amazing but definitely a satisfying sando. It's weird in that it's an Italian deli but only Asians work there.
google avatar

Jeannie S.

Yelp
The best sandwich place at el Segundo. I recommend trying out the 1st alarm sandwich and egg plant Parmesan.
google avatar

Yuko H.

Yelp
This place was recommended by my colleague and was told they serve great sandwiches and service is fast. Popular among airport ground handling staff. Menu is extensive. I didn't know what to expect. I asked the staff person what's her favorite. Chevy Andy was what she said and that's what I ordered. 6" sub was huge. Really huge. Half of that was plenty big enough portion for me. So many meats inside, it was very delicious. They also bake cookies every morning. I purchased all they had left of white chocolate cookies to take them to my work. They all loved their cookies and asked me where I got them. They had three different cookies and all looked good. Freshly baked every morning. Perfect compliment to sandwich.
google avatar

Cindy P.

Yelp
Favorite sandwich place in the Southbay. Love their Italian Sammie's and also their hot Sammie's are just as good! Large portions so I would recommend going smaller. Parking is tricky but worth it for the sandwiches.
google avatar

Samantha H.

Yelp
I walked in just had a curiosity. As I was leaving the lady at the counter, smiled and said 'have a great day, thank you for coming " ..I got about three or four stores past then turned around and went back. They got my business based solely on her . I hope their sandwiches are as good as your customer service.
google avatar

Jamie H.

Yelp
Great deli! I stumbled upon it and ordered a bologna sandwich on a roll. Service was great and quick. They have a soda machine for those of you that like to get multiple refills while you eat. Very good and quick service. Nice and efficient, would recommend for a simply good Sandwich.

Kathy S.

Yelp
Best sandwiches in town! Friendly employees are always ready to serve. They're busy so we order ahead and our order is always ready when we arrive.
google avatar

Garrett P.

Yelp
The Godfather is not bad. The fatboy meatball is terrible, don't bother. Service was fine. I'd go back for a godfather but not much else.
google avatar

Berton M.

Yelp
This is the best sandwich shop in Southern California. The meat is Boarshead so it's high quality. Get the Ed Special or Fireman. Both are outstanding.

J K.

Yelp
Awesome sandwiches as always. We usually get the godfather and spicy Andy. Last time I went I got a meatball and was really good as well.

Yelp
So where I work we frequent Rinaldi's as kind of an El Segundo ritual. Overall this spot is fantastic. Their menu provides a little something for absolutely everybody. If you're a sandwich person you're definitely going to get your money's worth! Their deli meats are exceptional and they offer each sandwich in a bowl if you're not eating too much bread. They serve regular lays chips along with another brand that I don't remember at the moment but get the latter! Everybody in town seems to come to sit down for lunch and it's a cool local vibe there. The employees are knowledgeable and very helpful! In my experience you can't really go wrong here 10/10!

Lee V.

Yelp
I was charged over $8 for a sandwich which comprised of an extreme amount of lettuce, half slice of tomato and only a large tablespoon of chicken salad on rye. Basically a wedge of iceberg lettuce between two slices of bread. I asked the price of the 1oz. bag of Lay's potatoes chips... she said $2.50!!!
google avatar

R H.

Yelp
All of the male staff were incredibly rude, they were blatantly talking about my order. The sandwiches are mediocre and were falling apart. Seems popular but I would pick somewhere else where they know how to keep their personal thoughts to themselves and have a clean interior space.
google avatar

Ricki D.

Yelp
I was so excited for a sandwich with all the hype around this place. It was super unorganized right when you walk in there's no understanding of the actual menu or line to order in because there are signs everywhere and tiny rickety tables in the way. The lady at the cash register seemed like she didn't want to talk to us and just mumbled around and pointed to different signs on the front desk area that had lists of ingredients and food. I really wanted a cold caprese but was told they don't use fresh mozzarella... so they used like sliced processed mozzarella that is only good if it's melted. Then I asked for a cold veggie sandwich on an Italian roll. My partner got a turkey and cheddar that took way too long to order because the person taking our order kept interrupting us. We waited around 25 minutes and my sandwich came out on the wrong bread and also.. oddly wet bread. I asked if they could please just scrape the inside ingredients to a new roll and they gave me back a new sandwich with half the ingredients. I wish it was a better experience!
google avatar

Kat O.

Yelp
Looking for a great sandwich? This is the place. Rinaldi's is consistently delicious. Every sandwich I tried is really good, and ordering the same one again is consistent to the one before. I always get a large because I think I will eat half and then the other half later, but it's hard to stop eating, it's so good. Over time, I've had the Fireman, Godfather, Reuben, Turkey Meatballs and Beadnik Basil Pesto Chicken. The fireman is pastrami with pickles, mustard and cheese. Yum! Godfather looks more like an open faced sandwich. It's blanketed with melted cheese. After you eat it, you are super happy and need a nap. I recommend doing your best in saving some of the meatball sub for later. After it sits and the bread soaks up even more of the sauce, it becomes this mushy extra layer, but the bread itself holds up/you can still pick it up without making too much of a mess. The Reuben is a "light" version of the Fireman. It comes on Rye bread. Super good! Beadnik Basil Pesto Chicken has a generous layer of pesto, without overpowering the chicken and mixed with the cheese it's a sandwich version of Chicken Pesto Alfredo pasta. The chips selection is excellent.

Yelp
I've been to this place twice as they had options for me when i observed religious days of not eating meat. The first time i went for their healthy house salad and it was great. It came with a lot of avocado, cherry tomatoes, walnuts and fresh greens with a terrific dressing. I also ordered their cheese tortellini, which i was very happy with because it came with garlic bread. My second visit was under par unfortunately. I ordered the same things in different sizes and they forgot to give me the dressing for my salad and with my tortellini, they gave me a half loaf of bread with nothing on it. I hope my third visit will be a charm and that all will be well.
