"The final two locations of The Original Taco House in Portland closed unexpectedly over the New Year’s weekend. Established in 1960 by Gene Waddle and later managed by his grandsons, the restaurant was known for its melted cheese dishes and sombrero decor. Although not regarded as a great Mexican restaurant, it held an iconic status in Portland’s dining scene. The Vancouver location had closed in 2017 due to lack of business, and the final shutdown was attributed to the family's lack of will to continue operations." - Tim Forster

Delicious classic Mexican food in a great atmosphere in a 3rd generation owned Portland restaurant. What can be better?! Oh yeah, dessert comes with the full meals!

We loved Original Taco House and would make excuses to come eat here. We are extremely saddened by their recent closure and are relieved that we ate there on 12-16-17 right before they were gone.

Really nice. The wait staff was attentive, curtious, & welcoming, treating us with the warmth of an old friend, and lots of smiles. All of the girls working at the time were awesome, & they kept the warm chips & fresh salsa filled while our meal was prepared. Needs a little TLC inside ,but good food, & pretty good prices.1to10 rate - food-7 / decor-6 / value-7

Yes, yes, yes! A little pricey, but very tasty. Good size portions. Great service. And the chips are amazing! Also the salsa was very good. Don't miss out on their "special sauce" which tastes a bit like Catalina dressing, but has more kick to it. Delicious.

This place was awesome! We went into the cantina and none of the tables were free. So the waiter quickly cleaned a dirty one for us to sit. The service was excellent. The waiter brought us drinks that were amazingly good. When we ordered our food, they didn't get our salads out before the meal though, so the waiter gave us a discount on our meal so that was really cool. I recommend this place to anyone who wants good service and good food at a reasonable price.

Fun servers and staff. Always friendly and helpful. Food is traditional American style Mexican with enough options to satisfy anyone. Print are large and prices aren't bad. Drinks are a little pricey, but very well done. Their bar staff knows what they are doing Try the big nacho or one of their giant burritos. The street tacos are my personal favorite...excellent chorizo and jalapeno sauce. We go there about once a month, and are always satisfied.

I love this place! To me, it's one of the only Mexican food restaurants, in the greater Portland area, that I consider to have pretty authentic Mexican food. The staff is kind and courteous! There is a great happy hour menu 7 days a week!

We have been here a few times. The pros, drinks are cheap and stiff. The happy hour has a lot of great deals. The cons, the taco meat is flavorless, the salads are just shredded lettuce with chunks of tomato and taco sauce as a dressing. Overall, just a horrible salad. The enchilada sauce tastes weird. The rice was chosen chewy and over cooked. The pros, the only thing we liked besides the drinks was the steak fajitas. The bar service is fast and friendly. I would only recommend this place for happy hour.
