"If the phrase “stay gold” means something to you, you might recognize this house. It was the home of the Curtis brothers in The Outsiders—now after several years of work, it’s a museum celebrating a story that has touched countless lives. In 1982, the director Francis Ford Coppola came to Oklahoma to begin work on The Outsiders. Based upon the 1967 novel by S.E. Hinton, it tells the story of a group of young working class men (the “greasers”) and their feud with the rich, privileged kids from the other side of town (the “Socs,” short for Socials). Two greasers, Ponyboy Curtis (played by C. Thomas Howell) and Johnny Cade (played by Ralph Macchio), become involved in a murder, and the repercussions affect everyone involved. To stay true to the novel, the film was shot on location in Tulsa. The house where the Curtis brothers quarrel and bond with each other and the rest of the greasers is now the home of this museum. The house was privately owned for many years, and had started to fall into disrepair. In 2016, the musician Danny Boy O’Connor purchased the building. He put out the word to fans of The Outsiders, asking for donations to begin the project. After years of renovations, obstacles, and setbacks, the museum opened to the public in August 2019. O’Connor was joined by C. Thomas Howell and S.E. Hinton at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.  Fans can look off of the porch and gaze into the sunset like Ponyboy would have, and go into the room where he reads the bittersweet letter from his best friend. The museum’s extensive memorabilia collection contains artifacts like wardrobe from the film, posters and books from around the world, and a green towel autographed from Sodapop himself (Rob Lowe). This house is a reminder that things really can stay gold." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

IT WAS AWESOME! Read the book many years ago, and loved seeing the house and all the pictures inside. You start out in the shop behind the house, where you pay to get in and get souvenirs. There is a person in the house who tells you lots of stories about the house, the making of the movie, and will answer questions that you have. This remarkable place opened a few years ago, and is visited by many thousands ofpeople each year. Got the book to read again, and plan to see the movie again. Great for people of all ages.

Google
A great piece of movie history. Worth a stop if ever in Tulsa. They have done a wonderful job with finding props and photos from the film. Passion project from Danny Boy to save this home. Movie stars often stop in (even those not on the movie). Take an hour to visit. Check the hours 1st.

My daughter loved the book and movie. We came to Tulsa just for this museum and it was amazing. We did the private screening and it was worth it. If you are a fan of the movie or book I would highly recommend. Amy was a gem and really made the girls feel welcomed.

I remember reading "The Outsiders" by SE Hinton in middle school. Francis Ford Coppola brought it to life with his cinematic depiction of the story. So many stars whose careers were just getting started were in this movie. The museum has preserved the memories of this significant story of society's "misfits "and our struggle to find where we belong. This tribute to a great book and movie is fantastic!

The staff here are super nice and knowledgeable because they were extras in the movie. It's small but Danny has taken great care of the place. I want to go back again.

Great stop in Tulsa. Really enjoyed seeing the house and memorabilia of the actors and set. Enjoyed talking with all the friendly staff.

We didn’t even know this place existed. We love the movie and couldn’t resist exploring the outsiders house. It felt surreal being inside the home where one of the most popular movies was shot. To be in the actual scene was definitely a unique experience.

We were very fortunate to get to visit even though it was technically a day off. The intent to care for something from this beautiful piece of film history that came from a wonderful piece of literature is greatly appreciated. The home and original car on the lot brought back a ton of memories of a story that moved me during my early years. The shop is a nice balance of collectibles and a number of other authentic items to keep the visit fun. It's worth your time so be sure to head on out.

Yelp
The Outsiders House Museum is a Tulsa gem, especially considering its modest size. Though not very big, it's packed with interesting memorabilia from the movie that will keep you engaged as you wander through. The best part are the volunteers. You can tell they genuinely enjoy what they do and they are eager to share stories and little-known facts about the history behind the movie and exhibits. Their passion really brings the place to life. While we were there we met some fans who had traveled from out of state just to visit. We also chatted with the photographer who was a neighborhood local at the time of the filming and happened to capture behind the scenes photographs on set. He now sells photographs onsite and had some fun stories to share. Parking is convenient with a small lot out back, but if that's full, there's usually plenty of street parking nearby. There is a great little gift shop to check out before you leave as well. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Yelp
Even though it was closed. I still was giddy at seeing the Outsider House!! The house still kinda looks like it did (run down) on the outside but that just gives it more authenticity!!!! The groundskeeper "left" the gate open so we could peek in the house (I could see Two-Bits Mickey Mouse Shirt display) and take some pictures on the porch!!! We also went to the park where the Rumble was filmed!!!! * Side note: there is absolutely No Signage on the fence to state that it is the house so trust your Google Maps!!!!

Yelp
I love The Outsiders (novel and movie) but I have to say I was not too excited about going. I just thought it would be something mildly cool to do on a weekend when some friends suggested we visit The Outsiders House. OMG! Whether you're a child of the 80s, or a child who read The Outsiders in MS English recently, go!!!! Go as soon as you are able. Go! The volunteer docents are great and so excited to share their expertise. There's just so much in this little house (but it's not jam packed like some private museums). Joe Cervantez, an extra on the film and unofficial photographer behind the scenes, is there most weekends to share his first-hand knowledge. He also has photos for sale. If you are so inclined, you can recreate the chocolate cake/Budweiser scene, too. So thankful that Danny Boy O'Connor saved this relic and built this museum to recreate not only a vital memory from most everyone's childhoods but also to keep Tulsa history alive.

Yelp
My goddaughter recently read the book in junior high and loved so I swung by the museum store to look for a gift and was able to find her a Stay Gold Tshirt and some stickers but decided against popping into the museum. My bookclub recently finished Rumblefish and decided to come and visit the museum and we were so glad we did. I admit my expectations were low. It's $10 per person. I was a bit worried being an older house, it wouldn't have a/c but I learned that the house had been renovated and restored and so it was nice and cool inside. I loved the 80s memorabilia, the knowledgeable docents and even an extra from the film. It was nice to learn more about S E Hinton as well. It is definitely worth a visit.

Jessica M.

Yelp
I was not one of the 70% of school kids assigned The Outsiders to read. I have seen the movie, however, this is a fun place to visit whether you are a diehard fan of the book or not. You get to walk through the house and see clothes that the actors wore in the movie. Be sure to have your picture taken on the couch and check this museum off of your Tulsa bucket list.

Irma Patricia B.

Yelp
Since I was here 3 years ago, a lot of good changes have happened and I am glad I am here again to see in person. Both my Uber drivers knew all about the house and it's history and they themselves have been here. I look forward to coming back this weekend to see the inside of the home. I have been waiting a long time for this! Thank you for putting this all together and for your hard work in restoring the house.

Yelp
I have been teaching SE Hinton's "The Outsiders" for the better part of a decade to my 7th grade language arts students. We have a huge community event when we finish the book- a drive-in movie experience complete with candies and snacks from the 1960s. Visiting the renovated movie house and nearby movie locations within a few blocks and Sperry, OK a few miles away was such a cool experience. I highly recommend it to anyone who's read the novel, watched the film, or is just discovering the story thanks to Broadway's newest musical. Everyone at the museum (including Joe Cervantes- who was an extra in the film and shares his experience and original photos), in the gift shop, and in neighboring locations were so knowledgeable, so kind, and generous with their time and their experiences. I won't lie- the area definitely looks like the Curtis boys grew up on the "wrong side of the tracks" when you are driving in, but it is safe and so worth the trip! The Rexall Shop and DX Station in Sperry are a must to head to after the house- the Rexall is soon to be opened (hoping for early 2025 if not sooner) as a coffee house, cafe, and soda fountain featuring the era and the film. The new owner was there when we passed through and she welcomed us in to show us spots where scenes were filmed, both inside and out. A sweet passerby stopped to take our picture at the DX Station. It was a great day in Tulsa!

Leena J.

Yelp
Wonderful Historical Site! $10 per person- somewhat of a guided tour- great gift shop won't one of memorabilia. Amazing. They spend a lot of time and effort bringing the book and movie back to life. We enjoyed it! Thank you to the amazing guides who gave us all the tea on the in and outs of the movie and stars.

Yelp
It was so much fun 10/10 I would go again "stay gold ponyboy" it's the real house and you can buy pictures that this guy named Joe photographed and they were just so pretty

Amanda P.

Yelp
Relive your favorite book from childhood at the wonderfully curated museum in the house that was in the movie The Outsiders. We came not expecting to stay very long and we're there almost an hour! We spoke to four people who acted in the movie and we were able to even take a picture recreating one of the scenes! When were getting ready to leave they told us, "there's only one thing left to say...STAY GOLD!" Wonderful experience and a must do when in Tulsa! The gift shop has a great selection of merchandise as well.

Patricia L.

Yelp
Visiting Tulsa and looking for things to do? Put this on your list! So...what is this place? It was used as the Curtis Brothers' home in the movie "The Outsiders". It is a movie set and museum all rolled up in one. There are lots of pics and original props throughout the home and/or items similar to the ones used. You can sit down on the floor with a cake & beer like Two-Bit did, or sit at the desk as Ponyboy did for fun or a great pic. Sure, this is just a movie set house and not based on a true story, but a good part of us can relate to someone in the book, the movie, and/or the messages we got from the story in general. When you tour the home...you can almost be transported to another era, another time, and really relate to the characters in the story. How was this possible? A longtime fan of the novel and movie is Hip Hop artist Danny Boy O'Connor. He visited the home on a tour and just couldn't shake how the home should be preserved. In 2016, he bought the home and the work began. They are still working on it, but it's been open to the public for a few years. I am impressed with the preservation of this home...they really did a good job. It is such a great story and this is a wonderful place to preserve the story forever. I would suggest watching the movie before you go or watch it again to refresh your memory. Some of the workers at the museum were extras in the movie and it's fun to hear their stories. Please be advised they are only open Friday-Sunday from 11am - 4pm...so plan accordingly. There is a small parking lot in the back and a few parking spaces along the street. Please keep in mind this is in a neighborhood, so please respect private property and keep the noise level down. There is a cool gift shop with restrooms as well. If you're a fan of the book or movie, it's worth a stop! Just go...do it for Johnny! Stay Gold!

Lindsey B.

Yelp
I took some pictures to prove how awesome our visit was. I'm glad to have run upon here in Tulsa on our "field trip day." If you are a fan of the book, movie, nostalgia, and that golden era of Tulsa... this is your place. A large part of this has left its mark in my childhood. My daughter and I both got to read the book in our high school Freshmen years (totally apart). I don't think the book is any longer offered as curriculum reads. Other than that, I can focus on the golden feels of traveling those roads back to Tulsa. The history of Tulsa itself holds its hidden magic beyond the brick and mortar stores, beyond the chain steakhouses, and beyond the chain coffee shops. Stop and look at some of the things that once were great. I make visits to the old nostalgic places. The stories these places tell.. are within the old drive in movie theaters, the art museums, and local ran establishments. There is just something about this nostalgic part of Tulsa that paints the history for you. Some people feel it. Some people don't. Its a piece of the 80s, and still those days to me were GOLD. Stay Gold Tulsa!!

Christy S.

Yelp
We took a girl's trip to Tulsa and were looking for some fun activities to do while we were there. This museum is located in the house were they filmed the movie The Outsiders. There are photo ops, decor from the movie, pics from the filming, and memorabilia. The employees are very knowledgeable about the film, and they gave us several little known facts, including a couple of bloopers which we had never noticed before. There is also a gift shop attached for those interested in souvenirs. This was a fun stop on our girls trip, and something out of the ordinary for us to do. We all enjoyed it! I didn't post too many pictures because part of the experience is to see those things for yourself!

Christi L.

Yelp
We traveled from South Texas to Tulsa to go to and we are SO glad we did! The Outsiders Museum did NOT disappoint!! The house and the people that work/volunteer by far exceeded our expectations. The stories they shared are PRICELESS!!! We met Amy. She was one of the Greaser's girlfriend and she shared very detailed memories of her interactions with Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell and Emilio Estevez. We met Joe and Joey, they both were in the Dingo scene. Also, Joe took behind the scene pictures. These are only sold by him and he shared stories of his interactions with the cast. Amy, Joe and Joey are SOOO personable and we enjoyed every second talking to them :)

Renee N.

Yelp
This is a classic movie from 1983 and I was so surprised to find that there is a museum here featuring a ton of memorabilia. The movie starring several stars such as Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, Patrick Swayze (RIP), Ralph Macchio, C. Thomas Howell, and Diane Lane. All of these actors were so young and just beginning their careers when this movie was filmed. The movie is based on the 1967 book by S.E. Hinton. Easy to find and a mere $10 to enter and tour. I went with my sister-in-law as she is a huge fan of the movie and we both wanted to check it out. The house was built in 1920 and until this movie was just a house. The nearby Crutchfield Park was also used for the big fight scene. The house was purchased by musician Danny O'Connor in 2015 who was a huge collector of the movie memorabilia and after purchase the museum was created and opened in 8/2019. Upon entering, the house is set up just like it was for the movie and features pictures, scripts, costumes and lots of interesting information. After exiting the museum, there is a fun gift shop with souvenirs to purchase. There is also a large tour bus which provides tours of the surrounding neighborhood and highlights. It wasn't running while I was there due to Covid19. Masks are currently required for entry and of course keep your distance from others. If you are ever in Tulsa and are a fan of this movie I ask you to stop and take the tour. Remember to "Stay Gold Ponyboy Stay Gold"

Olivia C.

Yelp
i loved it!!! it was amazing it was full of different things, and i recommend this 100000/10 the tour was great, and there's a gift shop and they let you take pictures wherever you want to! and overall it was great!

May A.

Yelp
"Stay Gold" Right before he dies in the hospital, Johnny says "Stay gold, Ponyboy." Ponyboy cannot figure out what Johnny means until he reads the note Johnny left. Johnny writes that "stay gold" is a reference to the Robert Frost poem Ponyboy shared when they were hiding at the church. I remember this story from my 5th grade class in my elementary school in Honolulu. My homeroom teacher read a chapter to the class everyday until we finished the whole book. I felt nostalgic when we saw the house where the Curtis Brothers lived. The museum is fairly new. It hasn't been open long, official opening date was August, 9, 2019. When we arrived in Tulsa we found that the museum is an actual house - not a movie set - located in a residential neighborhood but bummed that it was closed at the time. There was a sign mounted on the gated fence and it said that guests can go inside as far as the porch... enjoy, take photos, reminisce what you remember about S.E. Hinton's "The Outsiders." Be respectable. For Fans, if you're lucky enough to get tickets you will enjoy a guided bus tour that visits various filming locations from The Outsiders. Tickets include the bus tour and museum and cannot be purchased separately. Now I have to watch the movie again... who was your favorite character in the book? Review #1943

Doug K.

Yelp
I made the treck from Gettysburg PA while visiting OKC. Well worth the drive. This was a total bucket list visit. The house is in great shape and I thought I would be the only visitor on a Sunday morning, boy was I wrong. Tons of people coming through. Gift shop is huge. Good job Danny Boy for saving this from the wrecking ball. Recommend!

Darren P.

Yelp
It's the Outsiders Museum how can I not rate it five stars? If you're into the book or movie, this is a must see. Just check out the hours when it's open.

Sondra M.

Yelp
Wasn't sure what to expect. It is not marked with flashy signs so it actually blends with the modest neighborhood. Lots of artifacts, re-created areas, and interesting history about the making of this iconic film. Go!

Dev S.

Yelp
It was closed when I stopped by on a Thursday afternoon cause I guess it's only open on the weekends. Not that I would've paid to take a tour, though. Wouldn't not recommend if you're into this sort of niche thing.

Elen C.

Yelp
If you've seen the movie and it's a part of your childhood, or if you grew up in Tulsa, this is a must! The house has been restored to perfection, even original flooring, and the volunteers are actual extra actors of the movie, so they are full of insider information! There is a great gift shop attached to the back as well...get your "Be Gold" geer and smile.

Derek J.

Yelp
I will finish this review later this evening. For now; This wonderful place was created by Danny Boy O'Connor of House of Pain fame for his love (which I share) of the book "The Outsiders" as well as the movie based on S.E. Hintons Novel written in 1967. He has restored the house to save and preserve one of the greatest stories told to an audience that is typically for 7th graders. The book was certainly not without it's controversy, violence, abuse, smoking and other things that were taboo to write and film about at one time in our society. This museum was a lot of hard work and determination and certainly much appreciated by super fans of the novel and movie like myself. Located in the tough part of town, where you would find the Greasers living and close to many other filming locations. They have renamed the cross section of the streets, Curtis Brothers Lane and The Outsiders Way this is a step back in time and a beautiful homage to that time and place. Opened August 9th, 2019

Kevin M.

Yelp
This place is so cool! I highly recommend you walk through just before catching the movie on the lawn!!! I makes you appreciate the museum so much more

Teresa R.

Yelp
A must for any The Outsiders fan. The house is just like stepping into the movie. As you look around you expect to see the gang and Curtis brothers hanging out. Check out the desk and refrigerator for surprises. The tour of movie locations is a bonus. A lot of love went into this museum and you must visit it.

Randy H.

Yelp
Just wow! My wife and I are huge fans of The Outsiders. The tour bus arrived as scheduled. Our driver, John, was very informative and super nice. We were able to go to the house and see some cool memorabilia. We saw the park where Johnny and Pony were at the fountain and where Dallas made his final stand, and several other places. It was a fantastic tour!

Kelly K.

Yelp
My friend and I drove up from Texas for the day just for this back in January before covid hit. I am so glad we did! It was worth the day trip and the museum cost! Reading the book back in 1980 it was a great comfort in my young life. To have the movie come out, with all it's young starts was a huge thing for me at 13. Getting to see it all, the house and sets, something that helped keep 13 yo me going at a very trying time was wonderful! And just all the props, the memorabilia, sitting on the couch a young towel clad Rob Lowe's butt sat on.... So worth it! Just go!

Gary M.

Yelp
I was fortunate enough to have toured the house twice: once about a month before it opened, and then again at the ribbon cutting ceremony with C Thomas Howell and S.E. Hinton herself. Danny O"Connor has done an amazing job in turning his vision into a reality. Tulsa really came together to make this project happen and it shows. The collection of artifacts related to the book and film at the museum is incredible, and the way the house has been restored to look just the way it did back in the early 80's is amazing. I came to Tulsa from NYC twice this summer to see the house and it was well worth it. The bus tour to the filming locations is also a great addition to the experience.

Darla G.

Yelp
I, myself, am not a big fan of either the book or movie, but my two daughters are. So it was that I took them on the tour. You can't just visit the house itself; you are required to book the whole tour package online. This was an arrangement with the neighborhood where the house is located, which makes sense. You start the tour at a downtown hotel, and on your way to the house you visit several locations around Tulsa where scenes in the movie were shot, as well as related films like Rumble Fish. Most important of these is the park a few blocks from the house where several scenes were shot, such as when Johnny kills another kid. You also get the corresponding video clips on the bus when you pass the locations. Then you get to the house itself and are invited to explore on your own. The house is furnished with a number of period pieces, although not from the film. There are a few items on display that were used in the movie, for example, a leather jacket, a plaid skirt worn by Diane Lane, and RalphMacchio's shoes. After you have your tour of the house itself you are nudged toward the inevitable gift shop. Over all they have done a decent job getting the museum going considering the dilapidated condition the house was in, but they still have room for improvement.

Mike P.

Yelp
I just finished the tour. It is well worth the money and the commentary and videos really tied the whole experience together.

Walter J.

Yelp
I can't express how impressed and I was when I had the opportunity to visit the Outsiders House. I am grateful I had the opportunity to attend the ribbon cutting on August 9th. Danny has done such a great job accumulating memorabilia and rebuilding the original house. There is now a beautiful General Store in the back which has space for more exhibits and cool Outsiders merchandise. If you have the chance to book a tour of the locations, do it! Teachers, a visit to the Museum and a tour would complement your students' reading and viewing experience nicely. Through hard work and so many generous people, the Outsiders House Museum has been created for us all. I wish everything in this world worked out this way.

Cheryl K.

Yelp
Fans of S.E. Hinton's timeless novel and Francis Ford Coppola's cinematic gem will discover that dreams do come true at The Outsiders House Museum. This is and isn't your mom's museum. Appealing to multi-generational visitors, the museum is literally the house where you can sit on the couch like an honorary Curtis brother or sister - whether you had a crush on Rob Lowe (or Patrick Swayze for this gal) in the 80's or today. Between the cool memorabilia, rare photographs, original artwork and attention to detail, there's plenty to ooh and ahh over. The tour of specially selected movie locations is icing on the chocolate cake (fans know). The museum's driving force, Danny Boy O'Connor, has poured his heart and soul into this gift. And a gift it is.

Scott S.

Yelp
If you are a fan of the book or movie, you will find this place amazing. Chocked full of period pieces and screen used relics, it is like you stepped back in time. The tour currently includes a locations bus tour that includes a stop at the house. The general store has been rebuilt out back and includes more screen used gems, items relating to the movie and a gift shop. Highly recommended!
