After a week of enjoying traditional Portuguese cuisine, dining at The Oven was a refreshing and much-needed shift in flavor.
We had a reservation for four on a Saturday evening and were seated promptly upon arrival. The atmosphere was cozy and intimate, and the staff were welcoming, attentive, and friendly throughout the evening.
To start, we ordered a couple of cocktails and two appetizers: the momo and pani puri (each served in portions of four). The momo sauce leaned heavily on cumin and had a more subtle flavor, while the tamarind water accompanying the pani puri was excellent—tangy and vibrant.
For mains, we chose the butter chicken, chicken bhutuwa, goat curry, and lamb shank biryani. It’s worth noting that the curries are served without rice, so we added garlic naan and basmati rice on the side. While the butter chicken was quite mild in both spice and flavor, the other dishes truly stood out—rich, well-balanced, and full of depth. The chicken in the butuwa was perfectly tender, and the lamb shank biryani was the star of the meal—fall-off-the-bone tender and incredibly flavorful.
All in all, it was an excellent dining experience—flavorful, satisfying, and a welcome change of pace.
One downside that deserves mention: the restroom. Unfortunately, it had a very unpleasant odor reminiscent of sewage, which lingered even after leaving. It significantly detracted from an otherwise stellar evening.
