The 4 Best Hostels in Toronto (Updated 2025)

"If you want to save money, I found The Parkdale Hostellerie to be the most affordable option in the city: there’s no free breakfast but the low price makes up for it. It offers lots of common space and a communal kitchen, has a welcoming, homey feel despite amenities and design that aren’t the most modern, and while it’s not as central as other hostels it’s near Vegandale, Echo Beach and Fort York — a solid choice if you’re not trying to be social and just want to cut costs." - Matthew Kepnes

The hostel was much better than I expected based on other reviews. It’s quiet, clean, and the clear rules really help everyone get along. Showers are warm, and you can save money by bringing your own towel. The kitchen is well equipped, and the rooms have small lockers (just bring your own padlock). I also appreciated having charging outlets right at the bed, including USB-A. Overall, a great stay and definitely worth the money.

The hostel was much better than expected from other reviews. Quiet, clean and with clear rules that make the residents get along fine. The showers are warm but save money if you bring your own towel, the kitchen well equipped. In the room small locker, bring your own padlock. Charge outlets at the bed, for USB A aswell. It is well worth the money.

It's hard to find decent accommodation in Toronto these days that doesn't cost a ridiculous amount of money. This was a private apartment, and although far from luxurious, it served the basic needs without breaking the bank. We both enjoyed a comfy sleep. We chose the location online because it was a 35 minute walk from Budweiser Stage. When we arrived, we were told the apartment was actually not at that location. So our 35 minute walk turned into a 55 minute one. This could have been communicated better online. We also had a hard time figuring out how to get to our parking space from the Queen Street W entrance. This also could have been communicated a little better by the reception desk. However, barring the location issue, everything was fine!

Receptionist really friendly and I got an upgrade to sleep in an empty room. Because in the mixed dorm were just men. That was really kind of the receptionist. But the hostel in general is far away from downtown and the people in the hostel are weird and looking like homeless. I didn’t feel comfortable so I was really happy to sleep alone in the room.

It's not the Ritz hotel by any means but the room was clean, tidy and the bed was comfortable. The shared shower and toilets were kept clean throughout the day. The staff worked hard to keep the place running smoothly. Great location with shops, restaurants and bars nearby and easy access to the transport links

The worst thing happened! I have been traveling for 2 years! The receptionist was thief and the manager was rude! I had a really frustrating experience at Parkdale Hostel. I stayed there for three nights, and I left my bag at the reception desk with a man who assured me it would be safe. It was! But when I got it back, $300 USD was missing! I tried to speak to the receptionist, but the manager said he wasn't working that day and wouldn't give me his contact info. To try and sort things out, I booked another two nights online, hoping to talk to him then. However, the manager then told me I had to leave the hostel and wouldn't let me stay! This is really upsetting, please if you learn the man who is working as a receptionist, keep in touch with me please 🙏

Our private apt. was relatively clean, however the linens and sheets provided had a heavy odour and left my skin very irritated. The washrooms and showers are surprisingly very clean and newly renovated. The communal kitchen space was also well organized and had all the appliances we needed. The other people staying at the hostel were very friendly, and there was a nice sense of community throughout the place. Overall, not a bad deal for the price you are paying, but there is definitely room for improvement.

The building is very old, and unfortunately, my experience was not positive. I stayed for three nights in a mixed dorm with ten beds, but I was the only woman. The other nine guests were much older men, and their behavior was extremely unpleasant (burping, farting, spitting), which made me feel very uncomfortable and out of place. I believe that better guest selection or more balanced room arrangements could really improve the environment and overall reviews. Fortunately, the staff was kind and gave me a private room for the last night, and I truly appreciate that. I wouldn’t recommend this hostel to young women traveling alone.
