The 4 Best Hostels in Toronto (Updated 2025)

"If you want to save money, I found The Parkdale Hostellerie to be the most affordable option in the city: there’s no free breakfast but the low price makes up for it. It offers lots of common space and a communal kitchen, has a welcoming, homey feel despite amenities and design that aren’t the most modern, and while it’s not as central as other hostels it’s near Vegandale, Echo Beach and Fort York — a solid choice if you’re not trying to be social and just want to cut costs." - Matthew Kepnes

Worst experience of my life! I've never seen a hostel as poorly maintained and ugly as this one. Don't be fooled by well-taken photos, the reality is different. The entrance is on a side street that is dark and does not transmit security. When entering, you need to climb two flights of a steep ladder with your suitcase in a totally uncomfortable way and with the risk of falling down the stairs. The reception is next to the TV room. Simply creepy. To have free access to and from the hotel, you need to leave a deposit of 20 dollars at the reception. For real??? I don’t want to stay out of the hostel waiting for someone to open the door for me. And for that freedom I had to pay 20 bucks. Now what to say about the dormitory... there is no other word that defines it better: it's terrible. There is no place to leave your suitcase, the beds swing when you need to climb the bunk bed and the pillow is thinner than paper. If you are a woman, travelling alone and want to feel safe, know that this is not the place for you.

The hostel was much better than expected from other reviews. Quiet, clean and with clear rules that make the residents get along fine. The showers are warm but save money if you bring your own towel, the kitchen well equipped. In the room small locker, bring your own padlock. Charge outlets at the bed, for USB A aswell. It is well worth the money.

It was better than I thought. I have arrived here 8:00 pm and the room was dark and most of people were sleeping with big snoring. You need earplugs for sure!! Many people snoring in this hostel. I found a receipt and tissue which was used in my bed. That is disappointing. One guy came to me at midnight and he said this bed is his. I couldn’t sleep very well. Toilet was clean and just a night stay is ok. If you want to stay clean, go other hostel.

Depressing place. Feels and looks like a flop house. Rugs old and dirty, walls unpainted and dirty. Need to get rid of the tv room completely as it attracts undesireable people and behaviour, right in the main receprion area, and next to a sleeping area. Bathrooms reasonable clean and modern. Rooms modest. Redeeming feature top deck. Do not book through the Parkdale Hostellerie site, it caculates price incorrectly. Booking through a booking site will get you better rates. However not a great place to stay more than a night and only if needed.

Receptionist really friendly and I got an upgrade to sleep in an empty room. Because in the mixed dorm were just men. That was really kind of the receptionist. But the hostel in general is far away from downtown and the people in the hostel are weird and looking like homeless. I didn’t feel comfortable so I was really happy to sleep alone in the room.

Pictures are 100% better than what it actually is. No AC in the shared female room and no place to leave your personal stuff. Very disorganized room. As a female solo traveler didn’t feel safe in the neighborhood in plain daylight so I can’t even image at night.

It's not the Ritz hotel by any means but the room was clean, tidy and the bed was comfortable. The shared shower and toilets were kept clean throughout the day. The staff worked hard to keep the place running smoothly. Great location with shops, restaurants and bars nearby and easy access to the transport links

It's hard to find decent accommodation in Toronto these days that doesn't cost a ridiculous amount of money. This was a private apartment, and although far from luxurious, it served the basic needs without breaking the bank. We both enjoyed a comfy sleep. We chose the location online because it was a 35 minute walk from Budweiser Stage. When we arrived, we were told the apartment was actually not at that location. So our 35 minute walk turned into a 55 minute one. This could have been communicated better online. We also had a hard time figuring out how to get to our parking space from the Queen Street W entrance. This also could have been communicated a little better by the reception desk. However, barring the location issue, everything was fine!

Yelp
They really should work on their entrance/exterior. It looks like a place where you go to get butchered. My Uber driver was concerned about it too. Interior is ok. ONE functioning light bulb in my room. Shower stall missing a knob and corners lined with mold. Lockers the size of a passport and no lock. Won't miss this place

Yelp
This hostel was only okay. It was very loud and the people didn't seem to understand the consideration of others that should go into staying in a hostel. The beds were surprisingly comfortable and the shower had good pressure and temperature. They make you take your shoes off at the front door here which I didn't love. They did have lockers here but not enough for everyone and some were zip tied close so I had to leave my bag and hope no one would take anything. It's close to the street car so access to the city is super convenient. For $40.00 a night I have slept at better places but it's not the worst.
