I usually go to to Great Clips for my haircuts. So dropping by The Parlor was definitely an upgrade. Great Clips was unusually busy for a Friday, I drove around and armed with my Yelp App, I stumbled on to The Parlor. I walked in, not knowing the prices, but feeling awkward to just walk out. My hair cuts generally range from $13-$17, The Parlor's services start at $25 for a Hair Cut. An obvious different level of service and expectations.
I really liked Aaron's energy and the vibe at The Parlor. It's very relaxed, and they offered me a beer (or water) as I waited. I declined, because (I'm embarrassed to admit in real life) can't handle my liquor.
I like when a hair dresser/barber talks to me. They ask me what I want and then offer suggestions. But ultimately they sell it....even if they mess up -- but Aaron, didn't. Aaron blended my hair well. I've gotten a few compliments after I left. At this price point, it is a very different level of service from Great Clips. I don't get out of the chair with hair all over my face, or clothes or pretending to be satisfied. --That's because people who work at The Parlor, know what they are doing. And as I watched everyone else who was being serviced, that they are very serious with their hair.
The only thing I was surprised, was Aaron charged me $35 (+$1 for credit card transaction). $35 was for specialty, which I didn't think my hair ---was calling for special treatment? subjective --it is a barber shop, and didn't ask for a simple shave. I kind of have the David Beckham thing ---you know, with the comeover, clean sides?
But I walked out with great hair, and $40 less. I might not be able to visit Aaron as often as I hope. If you have the funds, come here.
I was lucky to find parking on the street --after 7, La Brea has free parking.
/cough/ you might be able to park at Lassen's (1 hour free parking) if you buy something and validate /cough/ but you didn't hear this from me.
