The Best Crawfish Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"This beloved barbecue restaurant is known for its hearty plates of brisket and ribs. It doubles as a crawfish destination, when in season. Crawfish are served by the pound, so grab a few friends and order the feast, where diners can get three pounds of crawfish, one pound of shrimp, two jumbo snow crab clusters, and sides of corn, sausage, potatoes, and mushrooms. Crawfish are served from 1 p.m. until they sell out on Thursdays and Fridays and from noon until they sell out on weekends." - Brittany Britto Garley

"A Museum District barbecue joint with an ice house vibe, The Patio at the Pit Room is an essential locale for enjoying smoked brisket, fall-off-the-bone ribs, Frito pie, and crawfish served Thursday through Sunday — all with your pooch in tow. With various seating choices on its patio, Rover will rest easy on the wooden deck surrounding the bar while you catch the latest sports game or just focus on your two-legged dining companions. I'll start with the negative. Place is super inconsistent. They only have one cook and when he is on vacation they don't serve food. The food is great so it's a major disappointment that you can't count on someone being there to cook it. Evidently they don't serve food on Monday, Tuesday or Friday, however when you show up on the days they do "serve food" and the only cook is not there then your SOL. Also why is this place always out of mixers? Diet coke? For weeks? Very Very Very lazy. Also the day bar staff on the weekends is just ok. One bartender makes you feel like you're on her time even when it's slow. Doesn't want to change a tv channel either. The menu at the Patio is absolutely great. The grilled wings are cooked over charcoal and wood and taste amazing. Across the board the menu stands out from other patio bars, by far. I just wish they could get their ducks In a row here.

Google
Amazing help from the staff, bar tenders and cooks overall great atmosphere, chill, for a cold one, there are floor fans and plenty of shaded seating area, this section is pet friendly they will even care to provide you a water bowl, give this place a try

Google
Crawfish was too saucy, too many dead/small ones. Two ladies at the bar, grumpy af, maybe be genial and you'll get a tip next time. BBQ side 5 stars, genial service.

Google
I was impressed the barbecue dinner. Overall, it's the best I've had in Houston. 1st visit, I ordered the 3 meat dinner: brisket, chicken, & ribs. Generous portions of brisket, 2 pieces of smoked chicken, but only 1 rib. The sliced brisket was cooked just right. It had a good smoky peppered bark, and the right amount of tenderness and the chicken was juicy and smoked. The rib was ok. I was very impressed with the flavor of their sides! Mustard potato salad that tasted like I had made it at home and green beans that could rival P.F. Chang's fried greenbeans. The Mgr on the line was especially helpful & honored my husband as a veteran. Price was reasonable for the amount of food ($30). I took it to go, but there's plenty of outdoor covered sitting on a patio setting. I definitely recommend you try this place if you haven't. I'll be returning!

Google
Crawfish is juicy, fresh and comes in various sized - some of them are pretty small. It breaks my heart to give this place 4*, but they didn’t have any corn, mushrooms and sausage (which is included which crawfish). There is just one more inconvenience - this place had no waiters, so if you want to have another drink - you have to go to the bar to order it yourself. I recommend coming to this place.

Google
I happened to be visiting the area and wanted to try some Texas Beef Brisket. That's what everyone talks about so I asked around and was recommended by two separate people (hotel rep and Uber driver) to try this place for the brisket. I gotta say, the brisket was something like I never tried before. The way that it's cooked is by far the tastiest brisket I've ever eaten. The Mac and cheese was ok but the greens were different (a good different). This place is also connected to a bar in which you utilize to eat your meal. All in all, I would recommend this place if you want some really good beef brisket.

Google
I am so happy I found this place! I went mainly because they allowed dogs on the patio and they had great crawfish reviews! It was a win win. I loved the atmosphere, relaxed casual bar serving really good juicy spicy crawfish. I’ve been twice in the past 2 weeks- great service as well. Crawfish is Thursday-sundays! Can’t wait to go back!

Google
The brisket was amazing and the smokey crust was very flavoursome. The venison sausage had a great texture and the pulled pork was solid.

Yelp
Their Crawfish this season is a TOTAL BUST! Going for an astronomical $13.50/ lb is first off, highway robbery...... but then when they are super small is just an added B_Slap! Yes they are Viet style which I don't mind, actually was nice flavor but the sauce sloppiness + small size + price gauging = Never Again! Should have put 2 & 2 together when ONLY one other table was eating them on a beautiful sunny packed patio day vs. almost every single other table nomming on their smart Pit Room BBQ decision instead. I've been a fan of this location over the years through the 3 different name changes but PLEASE revise your Crawfish Game

Yelp
Great staff, great atmosphere, competent food. (3 on food, atmosphere makes it a 4) CRAWFISH 3.0 - Crawfish. Garlicky, thick sauce. 3.5 - Sausage 3.0 - Corn 2.5 - Crab

Yelp
I was hella upset when I got my Crawfish because it was Viet-Cajun, with no indication. The last time I had their crawfish it was real Cajun (seasoning in the boil). Very expensive with no good reason. Going to keep all my friends from going back here.

Darryl S.

Yelp
It was amazing The food was excellent service was good. The atmosphere was perfect. I had the crawfish and then took some barbecue home one of my favorite places for barbecue.

Olivier L.

Yelp
I come here often. The bartenders seem to do the best they can but every time I'm there the manager, I believe his name is Rhino is literally the rudest person. Yells at all the bartender saying really the most absurd things for all customers to hear. Just makes the entire environment awkward to the point it makes people leave.

Yelp
Initially I thought this spot was jus a drinking patio to eat your Pit Room bbq at in a more lax environment (which it is) but today I found out they always run crawfish during season so I stopped by for a homie date and yes. Yup. I know the szn jus started but the flavor and quality we were served was dope. Thoroughly enjoyed every bit of the experience down to the hospitality and white claws. The Pit Room literally has to slap me in the face for me to ever give them or anything they put their hands in a bad review .. they always find a way to shine.

Renee T.

Yelp
So how to start... please come here for the dive bar atmosphere, stay for the incredible food and hospitality. Our party of four ordered a bucket of beers and one of the specialties, the Feast. The Feast is 3 pounds of crawfish, a pound of (deheaded) jumbo shrimp, two snow crab clusters, sausages, potatoes, corn, mushrooms, and this gorgeous, spicy, salty sauce. You will honestly look for a way to scoop up more sauce! I enjoyed a couple of cocktails, our friends had cold beers, and we have now sworn a pact to return:)

Martin F.

Yelp
This place is dirty. The bar service was also slow and pathetic. To add insult to injury, the bartenders do not give correct change back to you if you pay cash. . They instead will "round up" and pocket the difference without telling you. I will NEVER go back there again.

Yelp
---Dearest Reader, I write with urgent news, this matter is pressing. With the current season of crawfish underpays it is crucial you visit The Patio on Richmond ASAP. They're currently boiling up some of the biggest bugs in the Bayou City and they're not skimping on size or flavor. Located conveniently next door is their sister spot, The Pit Room, where you can pick up some of their fantastic bbq. Pictured is the crawfish platter w/ corn and sausage, as well as a bbq plate from next door with wagyu beef rib and all of the fine custom fixings. ---How I long to return

Yelp
This place can get very busy, especially during crawfish season. This being said, they poor a stiff drink and have the best crawfish in Houston. They are not the cheapest, but they are the best. It is nice to sit outside have a cocktail or a beer and crack into some mudbugs. Their sauce they coat them in is awesome. The crab and shrimp are also good, but the crawfish - come on. Service is that of a local watering whole, but decent and definitely helps if you are a regular. Bathrooms are above average decent and I will leave it at that. Plenty of TVs; a nice place to spend a Sunday. For those who do not care for sea creatures, grab some BBQ from the pit room. I will caution you, last time we were there I waited 50 minutes in line.

Yelp
Tall bar tender was terrible! Food and other service was great. He was rude and arrogant !!
google avatar

Marcy B.

Yelp
They have absolutely the best crawfish I've ever had to my spicy saucey standards!! I've been coming here for years and years and always come specifically for the crawfish. They make the sauce with crawfish boil seasoning, butter, chopped garlic and some hot sauce. It's so delicious I want to drink it. (Very spicy to some people's standards) I posted a photo of the sauce left over, it's soooo good! Wish I had more potatoes to soak it up with.

Yelp
My friends and I flew from San Diego, CA and ate next door at the Pit Room. We asked an employee where we should go for drinks and he was like, there's a bar next door! People like to bring their food and walk there with their food to eat and drink. So after we ate, we rolled our luggage to the bar and to our amazement there was a crawfish boil going on! We were so full but it's Texas, we couldn't say no to crawfish! This Russian guy name Dennis and Juanito were killin it and cooking up the crawfish. Each pound comes with corn, potatoes, mushrooms and sausage. It was a killer deal for around $8 a pound. It was spicy, bomb and fun to watch them cook it live. The atmosphere is chill. Everyone was pretty friendly, with all age groups and all ethnicities. My friend kept saying how nice the bartender was and how cheap the drinks were. The Patio and it's Employees made our first Texas stop and meal a really memorable one. I highly recommend coming here if you're in Houston!

Yelp
It's amazing how two adjacent properties with the same ownership can result in two VERY different experiences. I've been to the Pit Room a couple of times and it's been a stellar experience every time. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious, you get served quickly, and I've never had a problem. The Patio, on the other hand, is a very different story. Slow service, disinterested staff (except for the guys who clear glasses off the tables-- they hustle), and they can't handle simple transactions. When we came up to the bar, we ordered a couple of drinks and tried to provide two different cards for two separate tabs. The bartender had already put them both on one tab and was too lazy to split them up. We were told that they'd just split the tabs when we were ready to get the checks. We objected, knowing that the bar was going to get busier as Friday evening wore on, but they didn't do anything to fix it right then. Sure enough, when we were looking to cash out, the bartenders handed us a combined bill and weren't interested in figuring out how to split it because they were trying to sling more drinks. It took SIX people to figure out what needed to be done to split the tabs. The people who say they've "improved" the place from Jackson's Watering Hole must be talking about the look-- they've definitely done a great job of that. But when it comes to service, they're just as bad as Jackson's staff was.

Yelp
We came here after to eat our barbecue that we'd just ordered from The Pit Room next door. This worked out very well. It was a slow night, and I had no problem ordering beers from the bar to extinguish the spiciness of the venison sausage I'd ordered. The bartender was friendly, as well as the guys clearing the tables. The patio has a comfortable, casual, dive bar feel which I enjoyed. I also liked that they had a "Touch Tunes" jukebox so I could play some Stevie Ray Vaughn right from my smartphone!
google avatar

Morgan S.

Yelp
If you're looking for an ice house, this is a great one to check out. You can bring over food from the next door BBQ spot (which is itself a 5 star joint) and enjoy the game on several large screen TVs. Even when it's busy, it still has plenty of space - something to look for during these COVID times!

Rosa O.

Yelp
It's still very early in season, but the crawfish was on point!! They're still a little small but definitely worth it. I came with two girlfriends and we shared "The Feast" platter. We are excited to come back.
google avatar

Ogechi O.

Yelp
I came here for the crawfish Saturday. While the crawfish was good and nice in size, it was not the best I have had (7/10). I am used to asian style crawfish. I love that the 3lbs came with corn, potatoe, sausage and mushrooms. The atmoshphere is very inviting, and the BBQ from the pit looked great. I will try that next time. I love margarita or beer when I eat crawfish. I opted for the tequila. They did not have any tequila that I had heard of, but I went with the flow. I will never order margarita here again!!!I will stick with beer at this place. Waitstaff was friendly and crawfish came out fast
google avatar

Lorena V.

Yelp
If I could leave negative 5 stars I would. Boyfriend and I came here for a couple of drinks, before ordering food from The Pit Room. BIG mistake! There were only a few patrons near the bar area, but blonde hair female bartender masterfully managed to ignore us. When she finally decided to stop ignoring us, she asked the gentleman standing next to us for his order first. At this point we have had enough of this server's demeanor that we decided to leave. Sadly some people in the service industry have forgotten what their main duty is: make patrons feel WELCOME.
google avatar

Alicia W.

Yelp
The Patio is a nice little spot where you can eat, drink, and chill with your doggy! I met up with some friends there after going to a nearby dog park and both humans and dogs had a good time. The drinks were good and I also had boiled shrimp. The seasoning on the shrimp was really good, but my only complaint is that it wasn't cleaned/deveined, so I basically had to do that myself.
google avatar

Josh R.

Yelp
Great patio and relaxed vibe. There are crawfish every weekend. These crawfish are the size of mini lobsters. Very solid. Not the best in Houston but everyone know Houston has amazing crawfish but still solid. Don't come here expecting a great cocktail. This is a great cold beer and a shot of whiskey kind of spot. Which is great! Also an amazing bbq spot right next door. You can even bring bbq to the bar. Enjoyed this spot a great bit. I will be back soon.

Yelp
Cool and different place to check out, it's has a spacious and cool outdoor and indoor seating. The staff was nice very clean and spacious place. They have a pretty decent menu for food an drinks. The bar area is pretty cool, the bar top is made up of pennies which is different cause I've never seen anything like that. Also from what I hear Friday and Saturday nights it's happening. The drinks if you order looked inexpensive which cool if your on a budget, the happy hour is pretty decent as well which is also okay if your looking to grab a beer or whatever after work. I would go back and visit on the weekend, to grab another experience with it, I was just exploring Houston and my options and this place seemed pretty cool to visit, give it a shot .
google avatar

Chris V.

Yelp
The patio is a solid spot to grab a couple of beers and melo out. A lot of improvements have been made within the last year as well. But just a low key place to enjoy a drink. Neighborhood vibe a lot of TV's to watch the sporting event of your choosing. Crawfish season is so good here. In my opinion some of the best crawfish in town. If you like BBQ the pitroom is right next door as well.
google avatar

Sara C.

Yelp
We love coming here to watch the Texas Tech games with the alumni association. They have beer bucket specials and the bartenders go out of their way to make sure your beer stays cold by coming around and refilling the buckets with ice. It can definitely get a little rowdy, but everyone is friendly and into the game. They give away free jello shots whenever Tech scores, which is a bonus. One of the best parts of this place is that it is owned by the same people as the Pit Room next door. You can get yourself some great bbq and bring it back to the bar to eat while watching the game. Definitely get the tacos!
google avatar

Sonya S.

Yelp
It is a beautiful day to hang out here, On the Patio, having cocktails, watching the Rockets and eating some Crawfish. The staff is always smiling and very friendly!!! The Crawfish are AWESOME!!!
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Always too crowded, and they double book events so no one can sit down while people hog tables for hours.
google avatar

Stephanie D.

Yelp
Great neighborhood go-to. They've got the Sunday ticket and plenty of tvs and seats! Servers are friendly. Nice selection of brews on tap as well as a full bar. Large parking lot on premises. This bar is dog friendly so bring your pup along! Pick up some grub at The Pit Room and park yourself at the Patio!
google avatar

Faye P.

Yelp
Service can be iffy when it gets busy...I think the cocktail servers go on later in the day once it's already packed, so bar service is squally best. They pour strong drinks, the staff is very friendly, and it's the BEST crawfish (sauce on the side for dipping!!) in town. Extra parking across the street is a bonus. You can always swing into The Pit Room and get amazing BBQ to eat outside.

Samantha S.

Yelp
All 5 of my stars are for jack. We went during the day to get food from pit room and he's the best. Recommended a great beer. Made us so really good shots and was just super awesome. Go see him!!!!
google avatar

Macey G.

Yelp
Okay. Great to watch games and great prices. Also the pit is right next to it, GET THE TURKEY. It's better than the tacos. Bottle of rose was $27.
google avatar

Joseph S.

Yelp
Real nice chill place to have some beers. When I went on a Saturday they were making crawfish. The place right next door must be affiliated with them because they had BBQ plate you could brink with you next door. Plenty of patio seat that had a nice shade over the whole patio. I did have to go to the bar to get my drinks ,I didn't see a waitress to take any drink orders. That seem to be the only set back but it's a big one.

Charles U.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and service. Access to the The Pit Room bbq next door gives you a great food option. A great place to spend an afternoon, evening hanging out with old friends or making new ones.
google avatar

Insun C.

Yelp
Just your average bar. No particular stand out features but also no egregious issues. Would recommend passing on the crawfish. The ratio of the seasonings is off, and they skimp on the fixins.
google avatar

Kimberly D.

Yelp
Was hesitant about service here from other reviews but had fairly decent service on a busy Friday nights. Two different bar tenders seemed confused about my order, a Tom Collins, but both were made very well. They also have pretty reasonable prices. Just know I'd you order anything beyond a beer it may take a while.
google avatar

Allison P.

Yelp
Average bar. Several TVs. Friendly bartender. Older crowd. Lame music. But holy crap the crawfish were the best I've had all season!! Definitely recommend stopping by on the weekends. They only boil Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. $20 for 3 pounds. Solid deal comes with potatoes and corn. Get em while they're hot!
google avatar

Lola A.

Yelp
This place is a waste of time. It's a dump number one, number two the bartenders have no interest in service. Walked up to the bar for a drink they look at me and walk off, no acknowledgment nothing. I walked around the whole bar several times they looked at me said nothing. After 30 minutes waiting my friend had to walk up and scream to one of them in order to get service. Neither bartenders were nice just rude and careless. Wasn't even that busy ,one person with good customer service skills could have done better. My friend went to close the tab which took another 20 minutes he said she was high and out of it to the point she screwed the tab up 3 times..never going back...
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
Excellent customer service-even when it was slammed. Food is unmatched and environment is great. Top spot in Houston!

Jen C.

Yelp
Went today to try their crawfish after our Daughter said she had the crawfish last weekend and it was very good. I have to have flavor and heat and coming from Clear Lake area , have had our share of crawfish , let me tell you , this crawfish is full of flavor and heat ! We did pay extra $1 for the XXX spicy but even with the garlic and butter and spices, this crawfish had some of the best flavors I've had. (Tons of fresh garlic ... ) Kudos to the guys cooking the crawfish as you order ( you'll find them in the crawfish button ups lol ) we will be back... Very friendly and relaxing environment, prices good as well.
google avatar

Cristina D.

Yelp
I've been here a few times in the last month or so. It's a great low key spot. Love that you can get (good) BBQ on site. The patio seating is abundant and there's nice sized tables inside as well. Brought my husband here for the first time last night and he really enjoyed it as well. We will be coming back!
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
They've really improved this place from Jackson's Watering Hole. Awesome place to watch a game and drink some top shelf draft beer. Friendly and skilled bartenders, oh and the bonus is, you can bring your BBQ over from The Pit Room!
google avatar

Laura W.

Yelp
Crawfish are still small for the season (Mid February) but, holy balls the flavor is BOMB. For garlic lovers only. I eat crawfish up to 3 times a week during the season, and this is some of the best I have ever had in Houston. Good job guys!

Gennifer R.

Yelp
Spending a beautiful afternoon at The Patio with amazing crawfish, crab clusters, shrimp and not to mention when they have live music it really adds to the vibe and atmosphere which makes for a great day on The Patio!

Kaylee N.

Yelp
Had the best crawfish here this weekend and the live music was THE BEST! such a fun atmosphere! And you can go right next door and get BBQ, very convenient!

Samuel S.

Yelp
Nell and Laura always provide the best customer service at the Bar and make the place feel welcoming to all customers. Love the indoor outdoor atmosphere of the patio. Also appreciate the fact that it is a dog friendly environment for those to bring their little ones along with them. Great food and Service next door as well.

Jared N.

Yelp
Went there about 6:45 on a Friday night so that we could have a drink before we went to The Pit Room (which we love). The place was sort of busy but I wouldn't say it was packed. We walked up to the bar and waited for 1 of the 2 female bartenders to take our drink order. We waited and waited. We waited some more while she took 4 other peoples orders who walked up after us. I can see serving another person because you didn't know we were there but I'm the guy that's 6' 4" with his credit card out, I'm hard to miss. Anyway finally the Blond bartender that was working our side of the bar comes over and takes the 2 peoples orders next to us. The guy next to us knew we had been there awhile before him and told her to go ahead and get us. She said well I was going to get all of you and continued to ask him for his order. By the time she got to us my girlfriend told her if she didn't have time for us that we would go elsewhere. She condescendingly smiled and said ok.
