I like this place because it's close to most all of the places of interest to visit. If you're claustrophobic you will NOT like the small room size: it's small. But they provide toiletries, adequate towels & I LOVE having 4 pillows, each of varying softness/consistency. The beds are DREAMY ☁️☁️ I sleep exceptionally well there. I wish they could be more flexible with early check-ins. Other than their ice machines out of order this last visit, I had a good 4 days there. Would recommend it 👍

Bed was comfortable and hotel was in a good location (although a bit sketchy in the immediate area). They also let us store our luggage when we arrived early which was great. The size of the room was quite small and barely had room to open our luggage. Biggest issue was the bathroom, which was a bit run down and wasn't that clean, and the towel rack was broken and hanging slightly off the wall.

This was not a good hotel experience. We had a bunch bed room and it was MUCH smaller than we expected. The heater was broken and the gave us a metal space heater that didn’t stand up straight. This was extremely concerning as it is a fire hazard. Additionally, there were no blankets in the room, the light for the bathroom wasn’t working, there was a sanitary pad outside the window on the awning, and the bar/restaurant was closed even though the website advertised it being part of the amenities. When we asked for them to fix these things, they did not (besides providing two blankets). I filed a formal complaint and I spoke with the manager about the issues and she only gave us $8 off our original booking. I emailed and called her multiple times after hoping to resolve the issue and she never responded. They supposedly took off the service fees, but then charged us $50 more than our original Priceline booking for $320. This is seriously unprofessional, especially not to respond. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone. The only good thing was the front desk staff that were nice.

I'm shocked to see reviews offer 5/5 ratings. My experience was vastly different. The hotel room was nasty: things splashed on walls, mold around the shower, dents in walls, broken fixtures. The hotel supposedly has air conditioning but my room was consistently around 80 degrees. I asked for the air conditioner to be fix but it was never addressed during my stay. The shower varied in terms of pressure and temperature. On my last day I had to ask that the shower be fixed. The photos online are not accurate to the upkeep and maintenance of the hotel. The only positives were the proximity and wifi access was consistent.

Absolutely horrible! Staff was extremely unhelpful, unkind, and seemingly uninterested in hospitality. The staff member that was checking us in clocked out in the middle of our interaction and said someone else could finish up (Despite that she still stood over the other staff member talking the whole time). We got a bunk bed room which was extremely small, but that was to be expected. What wasn’t expected was how filthy the room was. The sheets were covered in stains. Around 5:30pm I called the front desk and asked for a fresh change of sheets and went out into the city. When I returned around midnight, the sheets still had not been changed. I went down to the front desk to let them know. They offered to change my room. Great. Get moved into the next room only to find the sheets are even worse (visible brown gunk, see photo). I went back down to the desk and they said they had no other rooms so they would have hospitality change them. I waited in the lobby until someone came in with a fresh sheet and handed to me, insisting that I change it myself. At this point I was exhausted and just took the sheet back to my room and crashed. The next day I found that none of the 3(!) TVs in the room worked, the bunk bed was missing screws, the towels were also stained, and there was dust EVERYWHERE. Not to mention the mold growing in the shower. The shower did not keep a consistent temperature and would go back and forth from scalding hot to ice cold. A note for any light sleepers: the walls were paper thin and I was woken up all night long by people loudly talking and partying (I am a heavy sleeper). Oh and there were signs everywhere saying masks were required and not a single staff member was wearing one. I do not recommend The Paul and will never come back!

Not sure why there are so many poor reviews here - this was a great place to stay! Clean, easy check in/check out, our room had a good view of the Empire State Building. We were able to check out and leave our bag with the front desk for the day, which was super convenient. The location is fantastic, walkable to Times Square, Chelsea, Union Square, etc. The room was small, but it was clean and had all the typical amenities. Only giving 4 stars because the rooftop deck was closed.

I stayed for two nights here. The facility was very clean, especially my room. The staff was very helpful and nice and the area surrounding the hotel was awesome. I saw some reviews saying the area was a little sketchy, however in my option I found it to be not sketchy at all. It is the city. They do have a restaurant and offer breakfast, but I did not go to either so no reviews for that.

My boyfriend and I booked this hotel for date night. The hotel was located in an area where there were plenty of options for dining out and parking lots. The hotel presentation from outside was nice however, I went during the rain an there was no awning. The lobby was small only consisted of one worker. The pricing paid for the room was not worth it at all. We got "a hole in the wall" literally. As we opened the door we were literally on the bed. The room was dusty like it hadn't been used or cleaned in a while. There was barely any room to walk around the room without being on top of each other. We had no place to put our bags. The bathroom was the most decent part of the room, it was clean and consisted of a decent sized shower. It was not worth the price paid, we have stayed in more accommodating hotels for more reasonable pricing.

Yelp
LOL Bruna the bartender scammed us. She told us if we write a good review about her she'd give us free shots/alcohol and guess what - I did exactly that and she charged us for EVERYTHING at the end of the night. And expected tip. I hate New York.

Yelp
If I could give no stars, I probably would. First of all when you walk in the entrance it looks like it's not even in a hotel as it looks either like where you check in to get on a bus or a youth hostel it's completely crappy. I honestly wasn't even sure that I walked in the right door that I was actually in the hotel so I took a moment to realize that things are not looking good. First of all when you check in, they hit you with some resort fees and $150 security deposit neither which was divulged when I booked the room. I have no idea what the resort fees can be for since this place is a complete dumpster fire. Then you proceed to the elevators to go up to your room only to find out that only one of the elevators is working. Secondly, when I ask what time the restaurant opens and what floor it's on I am told that unfortunately, the restaurant and bar are not open and they're closed down. Next the rooms are completely tiny and when I went to plug in my cell phone and my laptop to charge literally none of the plugs in the room will hold the plug in the wall because they're also loose. When I plug something in the lamp shorts out, and the actual plug flops around in the hole. The next point, I'd like to make was kind of humorous, because when I tried getting on the elevator, which I will remind you, the only one that was working, to come down to the lobby the elevator door opened, and there were two hotel workers in there with literally a mountain what appeared to be full garbage bags filling up the entire elevator likely 4 ft high. They kindly invited me in, so it was just me squished against the elevator door, and these two gentlemen, with the 4 foot pile of garbage filling the entire elevator. I am already fearful about having to take a shower in the morning as I write this review and already thinking that I'll probably have to put a towel down on the shower floor because I don't wanna be touching that disgusting shower floor . The only reason I'm staying here is because the hotel that I normally stay at which is really close by was full and this actually sounded OK online but let me warn you in person. It is a much different story don't come here don't waste your time don't waste your money. It's a complete crap show. Update- just had my first shower here and there's another nice feature in the room. The bathroom light shuts off automatically after a few minutes so whatever your doing in the bathroom, make it really quick or else it will be in the dark. Luckily after my shower in the dark I was able to dry off with a towel that felt stiff as a board and rough as could be. Great way to start the day. Oh and good luck getting hot water for your shower. I just ended up checking out a day early even though I paid for the second night and I bailed. Not worth staying.

Yelp
One of the worst hotels I've stayed at that tries to display itself as a good hotel. First of all, the bar and restaurant is still closed apparently because Covid even though everything in the city is open. Probably just cheap ownership not wanting to spend the money to open it. The lobby area is rough looking, there was a huge leak during our stay in there. The bathroom was in rough shape as well. I feel cheated considering how much we spent on the room. Don't stay here.

Yelp
The Paul NYC is a terrible hotel. The hotel claims to be non-smoking but when we checked in we found that the room we were assigned to had a strong cigarette smell that almost knocked us out. We then had to scramble late at night to find a new hotel to stay at since there were no other rooms available. The front desk employee assured as that we would most likely get a refund as this was not our fault. I am severely sensitive to the cigarette smell and there was no ways a bit of air freshener would have solved the problem. To this day, the Paul NYC has been refusing to get back to us on the refund. They also continuously claims that the manager is out of reach. On top of our issues, the hotel seems to also have other maintenance issues as we overheard other guests complaining about incorrect room assignment and broken AC. I would suggest all other travelers to avoid staying here. This place is a scam.

Yelp
Booked my reservation weeks ago and find out my reservation was cancelled without anyone telling me ahead of time. They didn't do anything about moving me to any other associate hotel or nothing

Yelp
The worst hotel I've stayed at. Zero customer service during check in and out, very dirty room, dirty bathroom/shower upon arrival, the worst AC (basically nonexistent), not at all soundproof between adjoining rooms (you will hear everything that the person next to you does)...

Yelp
Room 804. Standard room with Queen Bed. Cost total $80.55 (includes taxes and fees). Cons: 1) early check-in cost is extra $50 plus tax; 2) towel was dirty; 3) can hear construction noises from downstairs of the next building; 4) roof top is closed; 5) room wasn't super clean; 6) restroom has a bad smell; 7) windows are super dirty; 8) tiny room; 9) noises comes from heater, hard to sleep with heater on; 10) no breakfast options, even it's says it is. Pros: 1) great location, not far Subway Stations; 2) strong heater in the room, in winter not cold; 3) sparkle clean sheets but not towels; 4) free wi-fi works good.

Yelp
This was the worst hotel experience ever, in 15 years of travel for both me and my spouse. We arrived at 2:30 am in the night since our cross-country flight from SFO was delayed, and the receptionist said they had no rooms available, except a bunk bed, and hence they were relocating us to a sister hotel TRYP NYC, owned by the same manager, across the city. Initially, they also wanted us to pay for the taxi to go to the other hotel, which could be "possibly reimbursed" later on, but we doubted they would pay so after a lot of haggling we got the receptionist to pay. The quality of customer service was utterly horrible at the other sister hotel TRYP, and the receptionist at TRYP also forced us to checkout at 11 without any guarantee that the room at the Paul hotel we originally booked for was available at 11am. We assumed we would not have to wait till 3pm to re-checkin at the Paul hotel, but no one responded to the phone calls at the Paul hotel, and the manager himself is not available at either hotel. All we got was a generic email address to contact the manager. Needless to say, we decided to end our stay short, and looking at other reviews on other websites (e.g., bags getting stolen at reception, etc.), we know we did the right thing to rebook at a different hotel, where customer service was way better. I would give a 0-star review if it was possible. Stay as far away as possible from this hotel, and from TRYP NYC (where I will post a similar review).

Yelp
The Paul Hotel is unique and trendy.  Located in Chelsea next to fantastic places to eat and drink, the Paul Hotel is perfectly situated in a fantastic area of New York CIty.  The rooms were on par with the latest trends and had outlets on both sides of the bed to plug in items to charge.  My view was absolutely amazing on the 16th floor. The staff are courteous as well.  I think one of the best things I noticed was the constant cleaning the crew did in the elevators and lobby to ensure a safe environment for patrons.  This means a lot me.  The beds are very comfortable and there is a mini fridge in the room to keep some drinks cold.  Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and will come back again.

Yelp
3 1/2 stars. I stayed here for two nights and the water that came out of my shower was freezing! The outlet in the bathroom also didn't work, so I had to blow dry my hair in the bedroom. I was looking forward to spending some time in the rooftop bar, but sadly it was closed due to covid. I also don't think they have enough staffing to answer the phones. I called them from my room, and it just goes to voicemail. The only positive thing I can say is that it was affordable, and located in Chelsea.

Yelp
The Paul hotel in NYC was not a great stay, to the point where we only stayed one night and decided to leave for a different hotel option. There was a very obvious lack of care to the room that we were assigned to. Both the maintenance staff and the housekeepers failed to see several issues and sanitation problems, which is very disappointing. The door handle to the bathroom was basically falling off and wonky, held in by only one screw that was not tightened all the way. Only one of the two lights in the bathroom worked properly, so the bathroom was dark unless you were directly in the shower where it was brighter. The water from the sink took insanely long to warm up in temperature and was freezing even after waiting quite a while for it to get hotter. The walks to the rooms next door are VERY thin and could make out conversations clearly. The shower (the worst part) was obviously not properly cleaned, sanitized, or maintained between different guest visits. The grout had black, brown, and orange hue stains and the amount of it that was present was just unacceptable. Even with telling the front desk about all these issues and showing them photos. They did not offer is another room, they did not offer us a refund if we wanted to leave early, and when I pressed them about even just getting a small discount for paying 3 nights and only staying 1, the front desk assistant said she would "send an email to her boss and get back to us". Not happy with out room, the experience, and disappointed with the service.

Yelp
6 days ago I had contacted The Paul Hotel front desk in order to confirm whether or not I had left my drivers license accidentally at the front desk when I checked in to the hotel about a week and a half ago. At which time "Ali" had answered and within a few minutes immediately told me that the "lost and found department" was not currently working and that I would have to call back the next morning to speak to them on looking to see if they have it. The next morning I called back The Paul Hotel to once again be answered by Ali who after placing me on a brief hold of about 10 minutes came back to the phone to tell me he found it in the lost and found card section and that I could come pick it up at the Hotel. I had told Ali at that point that I am unable to drive the 2 hours into the city as 1. I don't have my license, it is currently at the hotel, and 2. I would not be able to make time to do so for some days. I then asked Ali if he could ship it to my house, which after putting my again on another hold Ali came back to confirm he can do that, but I would have to pay for all shipping and handling, generate the shipping label and email it to him at reservations@thepaulnyc.com. Within about 5 minutes I had sent it over to him and never after which did I receive any call back or correspondence confirming that the License was being sent over. 11/28: I called The Paul again to this time be answered by Yeshi who after looking for about 2 minutes determined that they no longer had my license, she could not find it anywhere, and as well that she is not receiving any of the emails of the shipping labels I sent to her (even after confirming the correct email multiple times). None the less, Yeshi let me know she would reach out to her coworkers to "find out where they put it" and said she would call me back in 30 minutes with an update. After about an hour of receiving no call back, I called back for a fourth time to ask Yeshi what was going on, to which she informed me that none of the staff that was working there 2 days ago when I called are neither there nor answering their phone and that I'd have to wait for the next time Ali comes into work to "figure out where my id is, or if he already had sent it out in the mail". 2 days later, today 11/30, not only have I not received any word back from the front desk, but have been completely ignored by the general manager "Bibi" whom I had sent an email regarding the situation it attempt to get my license back. Not to mention no one will any longer answer my calls at the front desk, and their is no voicemail box space to even leave a message! Given the circumstances of me not being able to drive to work, I am sure at this point you can understand why I am extremely frustrated with, if nothing less, the fact that my license has been lost with no information on where or why it may have been moved or sent. Not to mention I already have invested multiple days of not being able to drive to work, the $40 I had to spend on generating the shipping items, and the time wasted on the phone to now find out that you don't even have my Drivers license anymore? This is just extremely unacceptable and I hope you can try to understand why I may be completely upset at this point. Please get back to me as soon as you can, because at the least, I know for sure I will never be staying or recommending any others to stay at this hotel again.

Yelp
The location is fantastic! You are right in the middle of things. The rooms are a tad small, even the upgraded 2 bed rooms, but that is to be expected in New York. They are a bit stingy on coffee - we only received one regular and one decaf k-cup every day - so I had to ask for more every morning. They also don't do little toiletries for shampoo, conditioner and body wash; instead they have large bottles "locked" into the shower. I am personally not a fan of that but I Understand why it is done. Beware that there is construction going on both in front and in the back of the hotel. Also beware if you are booked under any type of hotel promo, they will NOT honor the Yelp check-in coupon.

Yelp
Went through booking.com, prior to arrival called and found out there was going to be an extra $150 deposit. The lady on the phone was quite rude and even though it says on booking.com that you don't have to pre-pay, you pay in person upon arrival, somehow the charge went through anyway. She even changed the rate so that what I confirmed to pay online was a different amount from what was actually charged. I regretted doing business with them. Spoke to a booking.com representative who went through great lengths to accommodate by speaking to their staff who acted as a professional liaison. Waited in person at the hotel lobby, totally not worth the hassle. Only reason for 2 stars and not 1 is because I spoke with a young man on the phone the following day who apologized and refunded the charges. However, certainly will never recommend to family and friends visiting from out of town.

Yelp
I was hesitant to stay here based on all of the recent rotten reviews, but the location was convenient for us - a short walk from Penn Station and also close to Midtown. We had a standard room with two double beds. The room was small, but that's expected in the city. Our room could technically fit four, but with three people, it was already tight. The room was clean and modern. Even with all of the lights in the room (one ceiling, two bed, and a desk lamp), it was dimly lit - especially the desk area where good lighting is needed if you have to do work. Another chair would've been nice to give other options than just sitting on the bed (only one was provided with the desk), but there was no space for it anyways. There were several outlets throughout the room to charge your devices. The room came with a mini fridge, safe, ironing board, hangers, ear plugs, and hair dryer. There was a cable tv with several channels and it had the capability to cast from your phone if you downloaded an app. I was a little sad that the NBC channel wasn't working due to a weak signal (I wanted to watch the Olympics), but that's just me being picky. They do have rooftop access, but I didn't have a chance to check it out. Water temperature in the room was temperamental. The bathroom sink water would get scalding hot quickly while the shower water would alternate between hot and cold. The light in the bathroom was on a motion detector and it would time out while in the shower, which was a bit of an inconvenience. The room also tended to get hot at night - every night, the thermostat magically reset to 80 and we had to crank up the AC. I didn't have any issues with the WiFi. There was low connectivity occasionally, but overall it was adequate to get work done. The WiFi login information was available at the front desk. Of the four days/three nights that we stayed there, housekeeping never came. I'm not sure what their COVID protocols are... I know some hotels aren't doing housekeeping during COVID but I think this hotel was... perhaps just every other day. One of the days, I had the "do not disturb" sign up the whole time during business hours, so I wasn't expecting them to come. On the third day, we did want housekeeping to come in the afternoon (after 1:30pm), but they never came. That was disappointing, but the front desk was able to provide fresh towels and another roll of toilet paper after calling them on the room phone. It took two tries to reach them - the first call to the front desk went to voicemail, and the mailbox was full. They answered on the second call and everything we needed was brought up quickly. It would've been nice if the hotel had a water fountain or water cooler but they do not. They do have a vending machine in the lobby and there's a cafe around the corner. There was also a 7-11 nearby to stock up on essentials. Amenities were limited - no on-site fitness center either. After checking out, we were able to store our luggage there for the day. When we were ready to pick our luggage back up, there was a bit of a wait and no real sense of urgency from the staff to retrieve our bags (we had a train to catch!). But, hey - beats lugging your bags around the city for a half day doing touristy things. All in all, no major complaints about our stay here; I would stay here again.

Yelp
Do not be fooled by the pictures & the reviews. They have worst customer service. Dirty rooms. If you call they either don't respond or hang up on you. Extremely not recommended

Yelp
I made a booking at The Paul Hotel NYC, and somehow a duplicate reservation was made. I didn't notice the duplicate at first, but as soon as I did, I immediately contacted Choice Hotels to fix the situation. Choice Hotels was never able to reach THEIR OWN AFFILIATED HOTEL by any phone number listed, by their messaging system, nor any other means. Apparently Choice can't do anything about the situation, only The Paul Hotel can fix anything. I personally tried to contact The Paul Hotel NYC by their listed phone numbers, and was never able to reach them (no one picked up and the result was always a "mailbox is full" message). There is something seriously wrong with this location if Choice Hotels can't contact their own hotel. As it stands, I'm out a large amount of money with no way to correct the situation. I wouldn't recommend rolling the dice with making a reservation here.

Yelp
I stayed in this hotel to celebrate my friend's birthday last weekend. We were spending our night around K-town and it was super convenient since it was so close. I'll definitely visit again!

Yelp
I really wish I'd paid more attention to the reviews before booking this dump. Believe the bad reviews. This place is dirty. The staff is indifferent and it's actually unsafe. Upon check in we were greeted by a receptionist who had no idea what she was doing. She swiped my card upside down and then told me it was declined. No. It went downhill from here. There is a sign in the lobby that clearly states they aren't doing daily housekeeping unless you ask. Not really a big deal, I guess. I figured we'd ask for clean towels as needed, fine. So the first issue with the room was that the AC was shit. Simply not functioning. We had it set at the lowest setting, trying to get SOME relief. The room stayed at a constant 86 degrees and humid. Lovely. I am also not sure if they EVER clean, as the carpet is tired and dirty and the bathroom could use a deep clean, especially the shower. So the next day, my daughter and I decided to come back to room around 4pm to take showers and relax a little before our Broadway show that night. So my daughter is in the shower and I am sitting on the bed and someone begins banging on the door - just banging, no "housekeeping!" or anything. As the banging continued, I got up to see if I could look out the peephole. As I was doing so, someone scanned a card and Let. Themselves. Into. Our. Room... she didn't get far, as I grabbed the door, yelled, "No." and slammed it. I watched her (through the peephole) RUN down the hallway. So in reading some of the earlier reviews, I am convinced she was going to rob the room had we not been in it. And it was definitely someone on staff, as they had a master key. I guess not providing daily housekeeping gives them more time for this kind of activity. This was the last straw. I booked a different hotel and we got the HELL out of there. I now need to follow up and try to get a refund for the 3 nights we did not stay there, which I am sure will be an exercise in futility. I did ask the front desk if she could offer any compensation and was told they'd "get back to me". No one has. In the end, our safety and peace of mind was worth paying for another hotel for the remainder of our trip. Please do NOT stay here. There are so many hotels in Manhattan (and actually IN Chelsea - this one is not.) Read the other reviews. Believe it. This place is an unsafe, filthy, miserable dump and it should be shut down.

Niloofar G.

Yelp
I have traveled tens of countries and probably a hundred cities for work and study. This hotel is by far the worse one. It is very dirty , very shabby . The receptionists range from rude , and malicious to ineffective. I am on a business trip at NY from Silicon Valley which is not particularly good on hotel choices. I arrived 1:30 hours earlier and they would not let me check in despite having empty rooms. Then they checked me in a tiny tiny room with broken toilet . The reception never answers phone calls from the phone invite the room or even if you call by your mobile phone. I tried at least 20 times. I found another hotel so I can check out tomorrow. But they even would not know if I can get back my money . They charge you right away as soon as you arrive. The room smells. It is disgusting. The hotel has no lobby , no amenity and you cannot even get a bottle of water. It is literally hell. I don't recommend it.

Gemma B.

Yelp
THIS HOTEL IS NOT SAFE. Please listen to the reviews that showcase just how dangerous and dirty this place is, not to mention the horrible service at the front desk. My mom and I lasted less than 24 hours in this hellhole. Our first room had no shower curtain and the AC felt as though it was running on 1%. I wish I had taken a picture of the empty shower curtain rings on the rod. We switched to the 16th floor, where we got a glass shower door... but a whole other mess of problems. One of the windows had no screen, the light behind the bed was shattered and very sharp, there was a gross mystery stain on the wall, the shower caulking was insanely dirty, and the floors looked like they hadn't been cleaned in ages. This is also where we found that the AC issue was literally just horrible AC in the building. That was not even the worst of it, though. While I was taking a shower, someone started banging on our door, twice, and then attempted to enter. Luckily my mom was right there and slammed the door on her, and she ran. Clearly someone was attempting to rob us with the thought that we weren't in the room, and since they could enter without us letting them.. clearly they were hotel staff. She was also wearing a blue uniform, so most likely the housekeeping that won't do any service unless asked. This is probably why none of the robberies mentioned in past reviews have been taken care of by staff. They are the ones doing it. I called the front desk immediately, to which I was told "don't open your door," and that someone would be sent up to check the floor. Nobody came. I called again to tell her this, and she told me she'd call them. Nobody came. I called AGAIN, and she claimed that they had come up twice. No one came to our door, no one called to tell us it was ok, after our room had been BROKEN INTO, and after she told me NOT TO OPEN TO THE DOOR. Not to mention, I don't think anyone actually ever came. The room and floors were TINY and I didn't see or hear anyone come up... which I feel like I would've, considering the room had a specific hallway leading to it. Also in this call, I told her we'd be checking out, and she said she'd call me back to see if we could get any sort of compensation. Big surprise, she never did. We checked out and ran. Do not fall for the price. There's a reason for it. These are just the highlights of things that went wrong, leaving out the cluelessness of the staff, the disgusting nature of the neighborhood, the false advertising of a rooftop bar and restaurant, and probably a lot more i'm forgetting. DONT STAY HERE.

Yelp
Reservation was canceled as I arrived to check in. they told me they rented out the hotel to the mayor. They did not put me up in a room elsewhere or give me a refund. Horrible service as I have been unable to contact the front desk for over 24H. Avoid this location at all costs.

Yelp
I am utterly disappointed and disgusted with my stay. My wife and I moved out the city and came back to visit family and chose this hotel to be a safe, clean, and comfortable spot for the night. I don't even know where to start, firstly my wife checked in around 4PM whoever was at the front desk at the time was rude to her. As my wife is handing in her ID the receptionist is insisting on accommodating somebody, she must have known, before my wife as if she is not already standing in front of her. It was honestly so disrespectful, and the guest literally had to tell her it was okay because my wife was there FIRST. Secondly, We go into our room 20-02, and amongst getting ready we were greeted by a small roach. We killed it and brushed it off, got ready and went out. As we got back into our room and are getting ready for bed, I am in the mirror about to wash my face and brush my teeth and a roach falls from the wall onto the bathroom counter and into the sink. NEXT TO MY TOOTHBRUSH. Are you kidding me? That is so disgusting. Then we got greeting by another roach. We went to the front desk to complain and demanded a room switch as well as asked for management, which is how we got this email. Lastly, we enter room 12-03. Thank God there were no roaches, but there was hair in the shower as if someone washed their hair before we got in there and my wife and I both had shower caps on. There was also BLONDE hair on the towels as we are using them!! My wife and I both have jet black hair! Not to mention, as we use the sink for the first time this morning to wash out face there was an odor that literally made me gag! The pipe reeked, it smelt of an indescribable must. On top of that, every time you opened the pipe there was a loud noise. I have a video of that as well. I can sent it to management safari who responded that they will investigate, and now we're being ignored . it has went on to two weeks of my wife and I dealing with this issue. We went downstairs to complain to front desk about these things too and even asked them to come up to smell what we were smelling. All in all, I can't believe this was my stay. What we paid $400 for? We have stayed at many hotels, and I have never experienced anything like this. Something needs to be done about this. If I could give this place a 0 I would.

Yelp
Avoid this hotel. You get that you pay for abs while the rates are low, the quality of the rooms and the service are even poorer. Expect multiple missing screws in items like towel racks, and housekeeping to skip your room even when you leave the "please clean" sign on the door. But my biggest issue is the lack of poor management by hotel manager and horrific customer service. I had laundry that needed to be cleaned abs placed it in the provided laundry bags. I asked the housekeeper where I should bring it to get them cleaned. The housekeeper offered to take them herself. But when I asked the front desk the next day on the status of my laundry, they said they never received it. They lost it. The value of the contents were over $250 and the hotel manager, despite the Paul Hotel being at fault, offered exactly zero compensation. Nothing. Even worse, he blamed me by saying I "didn't follow the procedures". But if your employee is being asked a question by a guest, and the employee makes a mistake, it's the hotels fault. Do yourself a favor and find another cheap hotel if you're looking to save money. In the end, it's nit worth the horrible service.

Luis S.

Yelp
Whilst away during the day yesterday someone accessed the room and stole all my luggage aand belongings. I then went to the reception to ask for help, and no one knew the procedure. I asked to speak with the manager and I was told he was only coming to the hotel the next morning, which he didn't and I was given an email address... To which he never responded. I was advised to call the police, which I did. I can't get my head around the fact that as a guest in the hotel someone had access to the room, took everything and left without being seen in the CCTV footage. I had no support whatsoever dealing with this matter from no one from the staff, nor the hotel. They were all very disrespectful and didn't do nothing about the matter... Don't forget we are in New York City. Go somewhere else, even if that means paying a little bit more somewhere else.

Yelp
I have had this hotel booked for at least 3 months. I get a call today, 3 days before my check in date, for them to tell me that they have to cancel my reservation because some festival has booked the whole hotel. So a festival can just book a whole hotel 3 days before an event and can cancel out everyone else's reservation?! There is no way the hotel was not aware of this. I am very disappointed!

Yelp
This was the worst hotel I have ever seen. It was dirty and unsafe. The rooftop was closed due to not passing inspection. The room had broken items the window had no screen or safety features there were cigarettes in it the room was absolutely disgusting. I left as soon as i saw all the issues. I tried to work with staff but they were unable to make any decisions. I tried to reach management and they were not on site you could not call them and they were unresponsive to emails. On top of canceling my stay and leaving within the hour, they still charged me for the full stay. And took additional money on top of that. Please do not get swindled by this disgusting place. They should be shut down.

Yelp
You get what you pay for here. It was all fine. A light and a TV in our room didn't work and it wasn't perfectly spotless. The hallways smelled of smoke due to guests not abiding by the non-smoking rule, and we were woken up at 7am by the hotel manager and a guest fighting about them smoking in the room. Beds and pillows were comfy and when we asked for more pillows they brought them to us quickly. They stored our bags for us before check in and after check out! It's fine but small. Again, you get what you pay for.

Yelp
Thought this would be a nice new spot in Chelsea, but it was a pretty bad experience. Super small (even for New York), no basic amenities (ie microwave, toiletries, not a little lobby area, etc.). The TV didn't work, at least two outlets didn't work, they advertise the rooftop restaurant/bar in the hotel lobby but it wasn't not open (this was in the end of September when outdoor bars/restaurants are open again in NYC). On top of that, the staff is rude (rude to each other and the customers).

Yelp
Perfectly fine despite the other reviews to the contrary, but brace for the noise. The Paul is a boutique hotel in Midtown, which makes it crazy convenient. That said, it's in Midtown - there are caveats. There's a lot of noise, the location is remarkably tiny, and the price means the amenities are limited. This isn't the Ritz, nor does it pretend to be. I found the rooms perfectly adequate. The bed and linens were great. The bathrooms were okay, though the shower leaked onto the bathroom floor. The WiFi was fast, though occasionally inconsistent. The television was wonky, and the remote disgusting but functional. The desk and chair were far from comfortable but worked. The presence of an ironing board and iron was thoughtful. The main caveat here seems to be the noise - there's construction outside, and it's noticeable. I slept just fine, but you may not, and there are ear plugs.

Yelp
1. The last at the front desk wasn't wearing a mask or gloves. We're in the middle of a pandemic. 2. Requested a king size suite, was sent to a double full room, went downstairs to complain, she sent me to another room, wasn't a king size bed & it was filthy as if someone just walked out. Went back downstairs, she said the hotel was fully booked. How can it be fully booked if I was able to book a room? Had to take the small room, she charged me for the suite & the small room. When I entered the room, someone had left their toothpaste, toothbrush, hairspray & lotion in a ziplock bag. 3. They clearly don't clean the rooms nor pay attention to what the guest requests when they book. 4. They manager said I would get a reduced rate for my troubles, $8 dollars, that's what I got. 5. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Yelp
What a difference a day makes. Despite being told Thursday there were no rooms available for us to change to, corporate reached out on Friday and did indeed offer a room change. Thankfully this room had functional air conditioning, and the rest of our stay was comfortable. This properly is in a great location. It's solid on amenities, has some service warts, but the biggest thing to know is NOT ALL ROOMS ARE CREATED EQUAL. Some are TINY (a foot or so of Room around beds), some have little if any AC (making them VERY hot), but some are quite spacious and can be kept comfortable. Be very aware of this when checking into your room. Many thanks for the corporate and local staff for fixing matters and making the balance of our stay more enjoyable.

Justin C.

Yelp
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!! Do not stay at this trash hotel. We had NO AC in our first room. We were moved to a second room where we were told the AC was working. After 30 minutes in the room the AC never kicked on. Both rooms only had the fan running. We spoke with the front desk who said they would forward our complaint to the manager but they could not offer us a refund on the spot. While leaving we were told we had to email the manager for a refund. It has been a WEEK with no email replies to 2 messages. No phone calls back with messages being left. Now their front desk voicemail is full. No one answers the phones at this hotel.

Allison M.

Yelp
I saw the bad reviews for this hotel after I'd already booked (non refundable) through Hotwire.com. The close proximity to Penn Station and a Starbucks about two blocks away is nice... however this is the ONLY nice thing I have to say. The street has more of a "sketchy back alley" feel with smelly trashbags stacked high on the sidewalk. The ground floor restaurant and top floor bar are both closed. The lobby is dark & humid & the mop bucket is visible. Although I was verbally guaranteed in advance that my room would not be given away by TWO different employees, my room was given away. I had to wait 2 hours for a new room to become available before I could check in. No one ever answers the phone and the voicemail box is full & can not accept any new messages. The hotel room's phone didn't have a dial tone so I couldn't call the front desk to request more towels-which there weren't enough of. The room was very dirty and extremely tiny (smaller than a college dorm room). I stubbed my toe trying to squeeze between the bed & a/c unit. There was dust on every shelf & window sill, the towel rack was hanging by a thread about to fall off, the seal on the window to the outside was broken allowing cold air & the smell of weed to drift into our room, the plastic cover behind the bed against the wall was broken with wires exposed, there was no shelf in the shower so we had to put our toiletries on the tile floor, and the wardrobe shelves had sticky cup stains. My favorite part was the fire hazard: if the wardrobe's door was open and you slid the sliding door to the bathroom shut you could not open the bathroom door from inside the bathroom to exit due to the wardrobe door hook locking the bathroom door closed. A second person had to close the wardrobe door so I could exit the bathroom. If I wouldn't have been traveling with a friend I literally would have been locked inside the bathroom without a way to exit. The icing on the cake was probably the homeless man who, at 7:15 am, somehow gained access onto our floor and was walking around in circles cussing and screaming that he would "break our jaws and beat the f*#%" out of everyone. Not sure how he slipped past the receptionist or security personnel but it was terrifying.

Kathryn R.

Yelp
Appalling. Run. They will not honor third party booking and forced me to pay an additional $282 above the pre-paid rate. An issue between them and their vendor should not fall on me, the client. Upon entering the room the window doesn't shut, the tile spacers are still in place, there is filth behind the bed, and HAIR in the bed. I will be working to get a refund. Unbelievable. I really was hoping this would be a fun little boutique hotel.

Yelp
Avoid at all costs. 0 stars. We stayed here about 3 months ago, and I am still thinking about this horrible experience. Notice that I didn't call it a "stay" -- we walked in and walked right back out. Filthy, drug ridden, sexually perverse location. You are not safe here. Front desk is less than helpful, manager will never respond. Had to escalate all the way to Choice Hotels executive team to finally get action. I would not be surprised if Choice Hotels removes their brand name from this location. This has 2 out of 5 stars on Yelp for a reason -- TRUST YOUR GUT. This hotel is not for you, no matter how cheap it may be. NYC is full of places to stay -- please find somewhere else and learn from the countless others that have already been here. Seriously -- don't do it.

Yelp
We were transferred here after our original hotel was over-booked and gave away our room. This place had no security, food options were the 2 vending machines in the lobby, and terraces outside the room mean loud, late night parties.

Yelp
Just checked in and was given a double when I payed for a Queen one bdrm, was not even told that I was being downgraded by the female at the front desk, she just charged my card and let me find out when I went to my room. Very disrespectful way of doing business, basically I payed for a false advertisement. Upon asking about my room change and showing my purchase she says there is nothing she can do. If you're planning to come to NY do not lose your money trying to stay here you will be disappointed with the room, service and lack of respect the business has for their patrons as they showed me by the way they just downgraded my room and told me I'm stuck with it. THATS HORRIBLE AWFUL BUSINESS!

Brad S.

Yelp
Worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Non existent customer service during check in . Got to hotel 2 hours early, room was ready, but I could not check in early without paying extra . Called the desk multiple times, never answered . Service level indicated a rate of 50/night, instead of 450. Would never stay here again.

Victoria P.

Yelp
I tried to check in today for a reservation I booked months in advance. They told me the hotel had been turned into a homeless shelter and that my reservation had been cancelled. That doesn't even sound like a true story but this actually happened. I had to go across the street to Ace Hotel and thankfully they had a room available. Terrible establishment, no communication and my money has yet to be refunded.

Yelp
Would not recommend staying here. The rooms were nice, however, extremely small (even for NYC). Was surprised to see a bunk bed in my hotel room. I was warned about it upon checking in and asked for a different room but was unable to switch. What surprised me the most was the lobby bar/restaurant being closed after I was told multiple times it was open. It was nice to eat in the outside bar on the 22nd floor and was a nice view. Was surprised again when not only did they not allow me to pay for dinner with a credit card, they also would not allow me to charge it to my hotel room. They only accepted cash.

Yelp
Worst hotel experience I've had in many years! A friend and I stayed for the weekend. As he checked in they did not greet him and acknowledge he was there. We get up to checkout where a chunky girl with glasses did not even LOOK at us. Our room was ready, we were 2 hours early and they said there would be an up-charge for every hour before the 3pm check in. Ridiculous. The other gentleman was just as rude. But not like the unpleasant young woman we had. She should not work in the hospitality industry if she isn't going to be at the very least, friendly! DO NOT STAY HERE

Yelp
Not what I expected not only difficult to get to but the roof top bar thumbs down if you really want to call it that .

Bunny G.

Yelp
instagram @thebunnygrey horrible stay bewarned. Air conditioner issues in the rooms way too hot. Then they canceled my hotel because there was no rooms available and they didn't give me a refund. I had to call a month later and make sure to get it squared away between booking and the Paul hotel. hotel staff at the front desk they are extremely rude inconsiderate disrespectful and the manager Bibi is the manager at paul hotel nyc and bibi doesn't know how to run the hotel as well as bibi rude and she doesn't know how to do business properly.

Terese B.

Yelp
My reservation was for this coming weekend, (2/17/23), made at least six weeks ago. Today I received a brief email telling me that my reservation was cancelled, saying the "hotel is closed." However, on the website and on the CHOICE app, you can still make reservations for this weekend. PLEASE DON'T.

Yelp
The hotel was not cleaned properly! I didn't feel comfortable even staying the night because I found some persons dirty scrub top and t shirt left behind. Which must mean it wasn't cleaned properly. On top of that I also found a dirty candy wrapper on the floor and a red stain on the sheets! I mean.... I didn't even stay the night because I felt like it was super unsanitary and that's not okay in this pandemic that we are in! But the front staff was nice.

Raae M.

Yelp
I booked a specific room size just to find out they were overbooked and didn't have anymore of the room size I paid for. The concierge didn't even mention the room downgrade while checking in. I had to find out when I entered my room. The Staff was VERY lazy and unknowledgeable!!!!!!!! At one point I wanted to come around the desk and check myself in because he took so long !! THEN the next morning the supervisor had a really nasty attitude about my asking about some type of accommodation for my inconvenience and basically she started an argument with me in the lobby for my inquiry! Screaming and all almost immediately!! She told me the available downgraded room WAS the accommodation! That is supposed to be protocol! Plus while waiting to check in I saw roaches in the lobby! NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!

Yelp
I want to say do not stay here!! We booked a 2 night stay during the week. Upon arrival we checked our bags with the front desk person who was having a hard time explaining charges to another guest. It was too early to check-In so they gave us claim tickets to hold on to our luggage. We return at 3pm to check in and they can't locate our luggage. They call someone and give our ticket number and nothing. So I ask to go to our room while my fiancé waits for our bags. I enter the room no sheets the door was propped open. I went back down to the lobby and they change the room. While in the lobby they ask if we can identify our luggage in the basement. So we go on a tour of the hotel looking for luggage. It's no where to be found. It close to 4:30 and so now they are going to check the security footage to verify the time we dropped off our bags!! Like we have the claim tickets really!! So at 5:30 they notify us that our luggage have been stolen. How are they stolen from you because they were out in a location with no lock. So they have no policy in place for this situation. The front desk girl has no idea what to do. She calls everyone she can think of and no one is returning her call. So we go to get basic supplies. The police are called to fill out a report. We have only the clothes on our back. We are now stressed and have to spend additional money buy clothes and other necessities. Not once do we receive a call from the manager or general manager. On Thursday evening finally respond to numerous texts. A text not even a phone call. That is not acceptable. On Friday we are about to check out and I receive an incident report to fill out an hour before we have to check out. This whole time not even a complimentary breakfast or drink to offset any additional money you have to spend. They didn't care about the situation they got their money. We are currently waiting again for their insurance company to possibly reimburse us. We still don't have an insurance company name, claim number and it will be a week. This was not handled correctly on all levels. As guest I didn't feel safe in the hotel. They need to step up their policies, and customer service.

Yelp
Started off with reservation at the TRYP by Wyndham in Times Square. We were told that this hotel was under construction so we would be moved to the Paul Hotel. We said ok and wish we hadn't. When I booked my room through Hotwire, I was not given the chance to select room type and there were three adults (not couples) in two rooms so we needed one double and one single. When we arrived at The Paul, we checked in and went to our rooms only to find two tiny single rooms. After asking if we could be moved to a double room for one of them, we were told it would be a $50 upgrade per night so I declined and let them know how ridiculous that was, considering their online price difference was only $17. We ended up suffering through two adult women sleeping together for an entire week... super fun. The lady at the desk even indicated they had a room available, go figure, since we are in the middle of COVID and NO ONE was in NYC at the time. I called Hotwire to ask for help and was given a $25 credit, which I guess is better than nothing but still not satisfactory. I called the Wyndham and they couldn't have cared less. I let the lady at the front desk know I would be writing the worst review possible for The Paul and The Wyndham and she was expressionless, no concern at all. The room was not clean. The duvet had a menstrual period stain on it on the bottom side, the freezer had rotten ice cream in it and the floors felt like they hadn't been cleaned in forever. The entire hotel smelled like weed all the time. It took forever for hot water to kick in for the showers and it faded in and out during showers. The auto light in the bathroom would shut off while in the shower, also super fun. To top it all off, when we checked in, I asked when cleaning services would occur and the lady said every other day. We checked in on a Sunday, the room was only cleaned on Monday and Friday. We had trash piling up in our room and others piled theirs in the hall. When we asked for toilet paper, the first time, we were brought a full roll. The SECOND TIME WE HAD TO ASK for toilet paper, we were brought A HALF OF A ROLL for two people. OMG! Needless to say, not happy, hated it, don't recommend. Good luck!
