"Why we love it: A beacon of luxury in Beijing’s famous Wangfujing shopping district The Highlights: - Spacious suites with private movie theaters - Cutting-edge technology and design - Activities like the contemporary art tour at Peninsula Academy The Review: Situated in the heart of the Wangfujing shopping district, The Peninsula opened in 1989 as Beijing’s first luxury hotel. After an extensive modernization in 2017, the property now features 230 lavishly appointed guest rooms, including nearly 20 Beijing Suites that top out at 1,776 square feet and include private movie theaters with 80-inch screens and surround sound. Also included with every stay are high-end perks like tablet technology, deluxe marble bathrooms with walk-in showers, and bedside panels with lighting and temperature controls. Guests even have the chance to learn more about Beijing culture at the Peninsula Academy, which offers activities like tours of the Great Wall, rickshaw rides through Hutong, dumpling-making classes, and more. When hunger strikes, take your pick of four dining and drinking outlets, including Huang Ting, a modern Cantonese restaurant with dim sum favorites like barbecued pork buns, sticky rice chicken, and braised congee with scallops. While there, keep an eye out for decor incorporating the phoenix—a sign of good fortune in China for more than 8,000 years that features prominently in the hotel’s design (there’s even a hand-carved version adorning the lobby’s onyx Spirit Wall). Come time to relax, head to the tranquil Peninsula Spa for a Chinese-, Ayurvedic-, or European-inspired treatment; work up a sweat in the state-of-the-art fitness center; or take a dip in the indoor swimming pool, which is heated to 64 degrees year round for optimal comfort."

The Peninsula Beijing

"Give us an establishing shot of the hotel, and let us know why it caught your attention. It would be too easy to say this hotel—fresh off a $123 million refurbishment—has been restored to its former glory. Instead, it's readied itself for the next generation of loyal fans. You'll still be wowed by the traditional Chinese facade, and the Rolls Royces that deliver the hotel's tony guests to their plush accommodations. You'll also love the investment it's made in technology to smooth out and enhance each guest's stay, eschewing traditional check-in desks for staffers with tablets who can do it all, from getting you into your room to booking spa appointments and restaurant reservations. Imagine that other travelers at the hotel are part of a tribe. Who else do you see here?Peninsula attracts a moneyed clientele; this location, especially on the heels of its facelift, has its fair share of jet-setting millennials. Almost every nook in the place is made for Instagram, from the iconic exterior to the clean, white lobby with grand columns, to the pool and the art collection selected with Michael Suh, executive director at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Beijing. The stylish guests who breeze through here are taking selfies un-self-consciously, and you'll be joining them. Tell us all about your room.In its renovation, the hotel cut its number of guest rooms from 525 to 230; now, all of them are suites. They're also the biggest in Beijing. Decor was inspired by luxury private yachts, so expect lots of light and airiness, furniture that kind of blends into the mix, and muted gray tones with aquamarine accents. Chinese motifs and artwork keep it rooted in its location. Beds are oversized and cloud-like, with comforters and pillows that look impossibly puffy and guarantee you sleep uninterrupted. Now for the small stuff. What are the in-room amenities you'd tell your friends about? If you're staying at here, you know that amenities come with the program. But the amenities tend to delight in softer ways—and that's a compliment. It's a grand hotel, but not over-the-top. Rooms are customizable: there are bedside and desk tablets that can be preset in 11 languages to control all room functions, as well as access room service menus. Bathrooms have large soaking tubs and rain showers; Wi-Fi is complimentary, and rooms have printer-scanners and a portable VoIP phone that offers free international calls. The hotel is anticipating its guests' needs and providing them before you even have to ask. What about room service? Why not get room service? There's plenty of space to enjoy it! It's accessed electronically, available 24 hours, and features Cantonese, Italian, Continental, Asian, and vegetarian options. A children's menu is also available. If you had to award a trophy to a member of the staff, who would be the winner, and why?Don't make me choose just one. The entire staff is a delight. What else is special about this hotel?First, the location. It's on Goldfish Lane (Jinyu Hutong) in Beijing's historic Wangfujing district, minutes away from the likes of Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and the National Theatre. The spa is also famous for a reason. Choose from Chinese, Ayurvedic, or European therapies, and don't skip the thermal bathing facilities, or a snack in the Oriental Tea Lounge. Finally, the hotel's programming worth noting: The Peninsula Academy offers custom experiences such as helicopter tours of the Great Wall, rickshaw Hutong tours, tea ceremonies, martial arts, and more. Bottom line: Why or why wasn't this hotel worth the money, time, and effort it would take an average person to book it?People pay top dollar to stay at the Peninsula Beijing, but they know it's not a gamble. It's a cosseting experience from start to finish, and a fine way to ensure your entire trip is seamless." - Corina Quinn

We stayed at The Peninsula Beijing recently and were genuinely impressed on almost every level.||First off, the staff’s English skills are far above any other hotel we experienced in China. Every question or request was understood right away—no confusion, no awkward moments. It made everything feel smooth and welcoming.||The internet deserves special mention: it’s high quality, fast, and offers near full access without the frustrating restrictions you often run into elsewhere. If you rely on staying connected, this is a big plus.||Our room was huge, spotlessly clean, and packed with high-tech touches that actually worked. Lighting, curtains, and entertainment were all easy to control. We genuinely enjoyed spending time there.||Don’t miss the rooftop bar. It’s top notch—great views, excellent cocktails, and a relaxed vibe that feels exclusive without being pretentious.||Only the breakfast was a little inconsistent. The selection feels a bit scattered—so many options, but not always clearly organized. That said, the quality of the food itself was excellent.||Overall, The Peninsula Beijing is a fantastic choice if you want comfort, service, and a truly international standard of hospitality right in the heart of Beijing.

The Peninsula Hotel Beijing is a truly exceptional hotel experience. The warm welcome, the luxurious suite, the stunning hotel, and the extraordinary personalised service. ||However, what truly stood out to me was the outstanding level of customer service and gracefulness from every member of the team. Ludi Zi is the lady who took care of us during our stay with genuine care and kindness. Ludi’s attention to detail and warm hospitality elevated our entire experience—nothing was ever too much trouble, and every request was met with a smile and swift response. She is a true asset to The Peninsula team.||The Peninsula Beijing consists of suites only and each suite is designed to perfection. Each suite is spacious with modern luxury and timeless Chinese artistry, high tech features and marble bathroom. The gentle but consistent hum of Beijing can be seen from the suite windows and the city night light brings out the beauty of the city. ||The Peninsula Beijing will exceed every expectation and it is a hotel I would return to, time and again.

We had a lovely stay at the Peninsula earlier this month! The concierge and front desk team were not only helpful, but were also able to anticipate our needs and fulfill them to accommodate us. Thanks to them, we enjoyed a room upgrade, ease of access to spots around the city, and more. Our room was luxurious but comfortable and the housekeeping staff was courteous and friendly, helping us add an extra bed in the night and more. Highly recommended staying here to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience in Beijing.

The Suite: Upon check-in, A member of the Front Desk escorted us to our room and briefed us on the amenities. That was really helpful. For once, I did not need to look for the hairdryer. The bathroom comes with his sink and her sink. That goes a long way to make us feel at home.||The Breakfast: When I was planning our trip to BJ, I went through the Tripadvisor reviews on the Peninsula. There are some criticisms on the choice of breakfast items. My husband and I are in fact very pleased with the selections. The food quality and the service are impeccable. The team actually brewed our tea and only brought it to us when it was ready for consumption. If you are looking for an international buffet with the clientele that comes with it, you should not stay here. I have included some illustrations.||Reservations: We had various queries and special requests. The reservations team was most responsive and helpful. Housekeeping was efficient and professional.||We look forward to our next stay at The Peninsula BJ.

My mom and I stayed at The Peninsula Beijing (Room 1113) from April 18 to April 20. I would like to sincerely thank the hotel for the wonderful and unforgettable memories it gave us. From start to finish, the service was exceptional, and the staff were highly professional. The airport pick-up service was seamless—the staff member was polite and patient, and the shuttle car was comfortable and luxurious. Our room was impressively spacious and impeccably clean. I especially loved the soft bed—it helped me fall asleep instantly. Special thanks go to Mr. Ruan from the tour staff and our shuttle driver. Despite delays caused by my mom’s leg condition, they accommodated us with great flexibility and arranged a perfect two-day tour that met all our needs. The restaurant Jing (鳳庭) was absolutely marvelous. My mom and I had dinner there on April 18, which was also her birthday. The staff thoughtfully arranged birthday cards, a cake, and lovely decorations. Every dish was delicious and beautifully presented. Although the hotel rate is on the higher side, the professional service, outstanding hospitality, and unforgettable memories made it truly worthwhile. If possible, I sincerely hope that Mr. Ruan, the shuttle driver, and the airport pick-up lady can be recognized and rewarded for their excellent service. Best regards, Ma ShaoWei

Picturesque hotel with a grand lobby. Stayed at the loft at 14f that comes with upper and lower deck. Highly recommended for young couples and kids but not advisable for elderly people due to constant climbing of stairs. Need to ask conceirge for help to move luggage. Overall sevice is good with constant roomkeeping. Checkout the rooftop bar at night as well. However, breakfast is a bit disappointing taste-wise. French toast was burnt and omelette was overcooked. Spread is quite limited. The menu also includes pay options which should not be the case for a hotel of this price range. Same for afternoon refreshments. Water is provided in cans (Voss) which is a bit strange. Bottles would be better.

The service provided by Concierge Jason was excellent and efficient. Front Desk staff member Rita was exceptionally friendly and understanding. Additionally, the male staff member with black glasses who works in the Lobby Restaurant was very professional. Their outstanding service is truly appreciated, and I believe they all deserve recognition or perhaps even a raise. While I did have a minor encounter with a couple of Lobby Restaurant staff members whose service was less satisfactory, I have already shared my concerns directly with the management team. Overall, my experience was very positive thanks to the efforts of the other outstanding team members.

This is one of the best hotels in the world, - service is off the charts and staff will go out of their way to help you, and then also the breakfast buffet is amazing. The hotel itself has an amazing lobby and physical structure. Location is perfect. We have stayed in many five stars hotels around the world and this is probably at the very very top especially for the value you get. Ideal and perfect.
