Philly Flower Show Organizers Apologize for Opening Weekend and the Hoagie Heard ‘Round the World - Eater Philly

"During opening weekend of the annual Philadelphia Flower Show, attendees complained that the show was rife with problems — long, disorganized lines; a lack of water and water refilling stations; and vegetarian hoagies made with microwaved bags of veggies. Combined with a weekend-long heatwave, and baseball and basketball games happening at the same time, many visitors who attended the outdoor event took to social media to demand refunds." - Dayna Evans

Long Lines and Limp Hoagies Anger Opening Weekend Philly Flower Show Attendees | Eater Philly

"Moved outdoors to FDR Park for the first time in its 193-year history, I found the Philadelphia Flower Show’s opening marred by long, disorganized entry and parking lines in 90–93-degree heat, prompting many attendees on social media to call for refunds. Despite $45 timed tickets, people waited an hour or more to get in with no staff explaining the delays, no one selling water while lines formed, and at least one group only able to enter after finding a distant third entrance. Inside, the event’s rules around outside food and beverages were confusing—buried FAQ guidance said to bring water and noted there were no on-site refill options—yet bottled water cost $4 and many were glad they’d brought their own. Food operations were chaotic: menus advertised raclette sandwiches, Maryland crab cakes, Italian desserts, and to-go cocktails, but many items were sold out or required online ordering; my group managed only olives, short ribs, and chicken rollatini, which felt odd in the heat. Preordered picnic bags were left in the sun so items like deviled eggs, parfaits, and salmon bagels were warm and inedible to some, and vegan attendees reported $15 “grilled veggie hoagies” that tasted like microwaved frozen vegetables, while another hoagie had almost no quinoa and few veggies. Vendors and some staff were working uncovered in direct sunlight, a safety concern for the many older, higher-risk attendees—one 78-year-old waited nearly two and a half hours before leaving—and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society was inundated with messages (its auto-reply noted very high email volume) as organizers and the show’s vendor organizer were pressed for answers." - Dayna Evans

Where to Eat Near the Philadelphia Flower Show | Eater Philly

"I've noted that the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Philadelphia Flower Show has been drawing the crowds since 1829; the annual extravaganza at the Pennsylvania Convention Center — this year running February 29 to March 8 — is the biggest and longest-running horticultural event in the country." - Eater Staff

Philadelphia is fortunate to be the home of The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society! PHS provides opportunities for greening up our communities as well as providing educational experiences that help us all be better gardeners and conservators of our environment. Some activities include Planting trees in neighborhoods, Pop-Up Gardens where you can enjoy drinks and food with friends, participate in plant swaps, volunteer for a plethora of events and meet like minded individuals! The yearly Philadelphia Flower Show is one of the highlights of the year in Philly! Each year a theme is explored and expressed by artisans from all over the world who show us through their gardens and exhibit a new way to see things and inspire the inner gardener in all of us! Best of all, membership to PHS is affordable with many opportunities to be part of an organization that truly works to beautify our environment and communities. (Flower show photos)

I’ve been a member on and off for several years, and it’s always a wonderful experience. PHS offers so many valuable resources for anyone interested in horticulture or gardening across the greater Philadelphia area. Their events and community programs are consistently thoughtful and inspiring—and of course, the Philadelphia Flower Show never disappoints! Highly recommend becoming a member or attending their programs!

Returning in 2023 to the Convention Center for the Flower show was worrisome. It did get crowded quickly. The main exhibits had plenty of interest, walking into the dangling Orchids was exciting. But overall the main exhibits were set up in small walk threw sections. People lined up to see them,  once inside it felt claustrophobic, with no way out, had to wait for the people to move. It was not inviting. Best to just peak in or maybe visit during a weekday could be less crowded? Wondering  over to the Hamilton Horticourt, it was less crowded,  with room to appreciate the individual exhibits. The photography class is new. 👍 Price was another 😱, $45 onsite plus $2.50 for the in-"convenience"  fee to print a ticket, just to enter. Best to look for discounts or purchase online. Other activities were for an additional fee. Okay to Explore!

This place is not a good organization they allow their people to harass people that live next to these gardens. Making living conditions unsafe and uncomfortable. I have been told by them , that my families safety is no concern to them the garden is more important, than them coming to my home telling me I’m trespassing and they are going to call the cop on me. And trying to break in my home. Yet this is what the it looks like

I’ve been to the Philadelphia Flower Show twice and it’s absolutely amazing artists everywhere. I can’t recommend this highly enough! I adore flowers and I was just blown away by so many of the arrangements. Bring your camera!

Google
Overall good experience with "The PA Horticultural Society" Garden Exhibition. Worth seeing and supporting. And also, there is a very responsive Administration for "The PHS" and Staffing at "The PHS" Exhibition Garden Show. The only drawback, is that over time, "The PA Horticultural Society" Garden Exhibition has become more commercial and fewer Garden displays. Obversely, there is a good push for Environmental And Local Community gardening efforts. Photos attached are from a few Exhibitions of "The PHS".

The annual Philadelphia Flower Show is an absolute must visit on any trip to Philadelphia. We had the great pleasure to attend the Flowers After Hours event on the Saturday night before the show closes on Sunday. Great music, incredible atmosphere, so many free treats. A special shout out to photographer Morgan Horell who most kindly sent us the photos she took of us afterwards. Thanks so much!

Yelp
I called twice for horticultural advice. I was told that my message is being sent to the appropriate person who would call me back. They never called.

Yelp
I was attempting to purchase tickets for the PHS 2022 Flower Show, but the PHS website would not allow me to even though I am a member. When I contacted PHS to assist me with this matter I was told a representative would fix the problem, but it's been a week and the problem is still not resolved. Then, when I call this week, I'm told I can't buy tickets as a member because my membership ends May 31. I have to purchase tickets as a non-member. The tickets are on sale now, my membership is still current now, but I'm not allowed to purchase tickets as a member now. So, I purchased my 3 tickets as a non-member because I do enjoy the show, but I will NEVER join PHS for anything ever again.

Yelp
I have been a member of PHS since 2006 and attend the Flower Show (which PHS runs) every year with my daughter (she went to her first show at age 2 in a stoller and now at age 7 can walk around and loves the show). In addition to the flower show, PHS sponsors many important programs including Philadelphia Green, Treetenders and City Harvest. I attend lectures, check out books from the library (a great resource) and, of course, get my flower show tickets and a 10% discount all for the price of membership. JOIN PHS - it's so worth it!

Yelp
Shameful event today for the members at the Navy Yard. With several years of this treatment of the members, tell me why I should continue to support this organization. The plant exchange was held in a cavernous building yet the members were corralled in 6 foot lanes in one direction - don't turn around! Then one lane was blocked at the exit with 3 large blue barrels. Horrendous decision. Add arching flowing plants in members arms, crates and bags created even more of a struggle to move. What was a lovely event on the lawn with vendors, an auction, food and music is no more. Perhaps it is time for me to move on to another horticulture society.
