I love their hand crafted ice creams! They also offer special toppings such as grill marshmallow. Very interesting. The butter caramel, roasted corn blueberry and coffee flavors are all taste good! You can taste the fresh ingredients and I love the sweetness level. Not too sweet and it’s exactly the right amount. Highly recommend!

Google
its a cloudy day. after our lunch my hus said there is a cute ice cream shop near by so we came check it out~the staff is extremely friendly. i try coffee and dark chocolate the ice cream style reminds me of gelato. its not that creamy but very tasty i choose dark chocolate and when i asked about the marshmallow topping he said cuz it's my first time here so he can give it for free~really appreciate a perfect ice cream and friendly people and also its me and my hus‘s 8th anniversary so happy~~~

I had to check out Palo Alto’s newest ice cream shop! The shop is bright and cute and the people who work there are extremely friendly. They let me taste like seven different flavors! The ice cream style is a little more icy than creamy/fatty, it reminds me of gelato. What really stood out though are the flavors! Someone in the kitchen is a flavor master. The chamomile apricot tasted like an apricot creamsicle. The pineapple sorbet tasted so fresh and juicy, like pineapple when it’s perfectly ripe. The mint is very herbal with bitter chocolate. The bitter caramel is pleasantly sweet but with a bite, similar to Salt and Straw’s old rye flavor. The vegan chocolate rivals Humphrey Slocombe’s - it’s intense, dark, and satisfying. But my favorite was the verve coffee flavor. It’s a flavor burst on your tongue, with a little nuttiness and sweetness. They let you do a little tasting called a mini triple so you can get three flavors in one (woohoo for indecisive people!) Don’t miss their light and fluffy bruleed marshmallow topping.

Google
I got a cup of strawberry peppercorn and vanilla ice cream with toasted marshmallow topping. The strawberry was really good with bright explosions of flavor from the pink peppercorns, and the vanilla was smooth and floral. The toasted marshmallow was so good, perfectly roasted and sweet! It's the only way I want to eat ice cream now.

Google
Love the flavors of Penny Ice Creamery. My favorite is Verve coffee with chocolate almond praline. Delicious!

Chelle T

Google
Interesting flavors to try. I am glad they let you sample a little. The cinnamon seemed a little burnt according to one taster, the caramel one as well. The strawberry seemed to have a yogurt taste but also more of a raspberry flavor. I chose the mint with chocolate chip which was reminiscent of the leaf itself. It is a nice dessert place whether or not you had a big meal. Service is nice. PS there was a neat "show" if someone before you orders a toasted marshmallow.

Google
Flavor selection is unique and inviting. But the ice cream fell short of expectations. Had the Fresh Mint Chip and it wasn’t minty enough. Also lacked creaminess of other scoop shops. Texture was good.

Dan Leemon

Google
Ice cream was fine. Service was terrible -- one person was walking around behind the counter offering no help and answered rudely when we asked if we were standing in the right line. The other was trying to serve customers but about as slowly and inefficiently as one could imagine. Prices are very high. Not worth the hassle or the indifference. For the management: Perhaps (1) instruct your associates that when a long line forms, they should stop what else they're doing and help serve customers; (2) instruct associates to at least make eye contact and say "I'll be right with you" to those waiting; (3) reorganize your process -- person at the counter had to keep going back and forth between the ice cream case, the scooping station, the cups, the cones, and the toppings. Looked like a comedy routine where the goal is to maximize customer frustration.

Yelp
To be completely honest, I am not really a dessert person, but when my coworkers wanted to get ice cream, I couldn't say no. Ice cream is one of my weaknesses and The Penny Ice Creamery has me hooked! I have been to some of the locations in Santa Cruz, but I never knew they had a new spot in Palo Alto. So happy we had dinner so close to this one and we got there right before closing too. Just our luck! The employees were super nice and talked us through the menu. I think we ended up trying 2 or 3 flavor and all of them were so tasty. I ended up getting the "Bitter Caramel" sandwiched between 2 dark chocolate cookies. OH MY GAWD it was like all my dreams were coming to life right in front of me. It was so good! I really wanted to get the coffee flavor, but I know that I wouldn't be able to sleep later. I am really sensitive to caffeine. Definitely getting it next time though and I will have to come earlier so I can sleep after!

Yelp
The Penny Ice Creamery is a Santa Cruz local shop that's a new to me business in the Town & Country Plaza. The shop is cute and they offer just a few specialty flavors. I like that the flavors are unique but not super out there. They also offer samples which is great. I ended up ordering a scoop of the fresh mint chocolate chip in a cup (almost $7). While the ice cream was good, the price is quite high for the portion. The scoop was tiny and on the softer side/melting almost immediately. Not sure how much the next size up would cost but hopefully you get more bang for your buck.

Dhruti P.

Yelp
The flavors at Penny Ice Creamery are definitely creative, and service was quick. There's no indoor seating, but there are a few tables outside to enjoy your ice cream. As a fan of Verve coffee, I initially sampled the Verve coffee with praline flavor. While it was tasty, it ended up being too rich and heavy for me, so I switched to a fruit-based flavor instead. At $8 for a small scoop, I was hoping for something that would blow me away, but I was left wanting more. Maybe next time I'll find that "wow" flavor, but for now, it's just okay.

Emily W.

Yelp
I was excited to try this location since I've gone to the Santa Cruz location plenty of times and loved it. I got a mini size cup of peppermint chocolate chip with toasted marshmallow fluff. I sampled a handful of flavors and none of them really stood out to me. I was mainly excited for the toasted marshmallow fluff. The marshmallow fluff was still pretty good but overall I found the ice cream mediocre and overpriced. Wouldn't go out of my way to come back.

Carolyn D.

Yelp
I was so excited when I saw penny opened up in the bay area. We tried the chocolate brownie and mint chip double scoop and both were good! Had to get the signature marshmallow fluff and it was the perfect topping, I might've enjoyed it more than the ice cream itself. The double scoop with a topping and a cone came out to be $10.50 which is quite expensive... it'll only be a once in a while treat for us

Mariam M.

Yelp
The Penny Ice Creamery was a good experience! I tried the strawberry basil ice cream which was a unique flavor I was eager to try. Very distinct flavor and surprisingly delightful! Looking forward to trying another flavor next time I go :) Also as a heads up; there's no seating in the shop itself, just a few tables and benches outside. Caution: most the ice cream contains eggs! They had two vegan flavors at the time I went (chocolate and strawberry)

Michele T.

Yelp
Excited to check out the ice cream with the Toasted Marshmallow Fluff. Went with the mini double - bitter caramel and Verve coffee. Enjoyed both flavors of the ice cream. However, the fluff didn't really add anything - more of a novelty and wish I just left it off. Although the flavors were good, pricey at $8.

Neela A.

Yelp
Overpriced !! felt like they were stingy with their scoop. There are better ice cream places compared to this spot.

Ayşe Ç.

Yelp
Penny Ice Creamery is our desert stop if we are having dinner close by. Ever changing flavors give a surprise and delight to each visit. For the first week of October, Cardamom-plum flavor was my favorite. It would have been helpful to know the source of gelatin in their S'mores ice cream.

Alexis M.

Yelp
After enjoying The Penny Ice Creamery in Santa Cruz, I decided to check out their Palo Alto location. It's tucked inside a plaza with several other restaurants and shops. To my surprise, it didn't quite live up to the Santa Cruz experience--I still think that location is the best. The service was quick, and the ambiance was pleasant, but overall, I'd say it was just okay.

Tiffany M.

Yelp
A unique ice cream spot featuring a s'mores-like topping caught my attention. Initially, I was hesitant to try the toasted marshmallow topping, worried it might be too sweet. However, I decided to go for a scoop of rocky road with the marshmallow, and to my surprise, they complemented each other nicely. While it was still a bit sweeter than I usually prefer, I'm glad I gave it a shot. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the store's cute decor really stood out. I'll likely return to try more flavors next time I'm in the area.

Aidan C.

Yelp
First off, The prices are insane. I know it's an expensive area, But it was something crazy like 8-9 dollars a scoop, and additional for the cone, plus tax. This is with a lacking selection of flavors. Second of all, The person serving us was SO rude. It was a couple months ago so I don't remember all the details, But I remember it being a younger gentleman with a hell of an attitude.

Alaric S.

Yelp
visited the Penny ice creamery recently and noticed they had a few interesting flavors. Service was good even though they had one person working the entire operation. No seats inside a lot of outdoor seating around.

Karina M.

Yelp
We came here having been gifted a lovely gift card here and were excited to get some ice cream on a Sunday evening. We arrived at 8:54 through the open door. There was one couple in line ahead of us and someone working at the front ringing up the people who were checking out. One really rude second employee told us "we close in 5 mins and will only have time to help the two people in line ahead of you" and essentially just kicked us out. It's not a restaurant where you have to cook a meal for someone, it's literally just a scoop of ice cream, especially since it's not as though there are a ton of flavors. It seemed like he was just in a foul mood and it somehow made him feel better to disappoint us. He was successful in doing so and making us feel awful for trying to get ice cream there. If we didn't have a gift card, I would absolutely not return to a place that doesn't seem to want customers and treats them abysmally.

Jess W.

Yelp
This place runs on the pricey end. However their mint choco chip flavor is the best--it tastes very natural (smells like real mint leaf) and doesn't seem to have food coloring (compared to the usual artificial taste of mint choco chip we grew up with). The customer service is usually pretty good as well.

L. G.

Yelp
My goodness, what a pleasant surprise! I was trying to find a sorbet, and The Penny had both a scrumptious Mandarin Orange AND Dark Chocolate. The extremely gracious young man let me try both. Sold. I'll certainly have a "go to" now for sorbet in Palo Alto!

Fiona T.

Yelp
The staff was very friendly letting me try lots of flavors and giving their suggestions. The flavors are okay. I wasn't a fan of the available flavors when I went but went for this coffee flavor. At first I liked it but I got bored of it. It was also about $8 for 1 scoop... Might come back if I like the new flavors.

Lara W.

Yelp
You know when you get used to a store being there forever (Tinpot) and then one day they're gone, and another business shows up and you're like "ew, who are they? I liked the old guys." I didn't give Penny a chance. I just passed by. How could they live up? Until a Yelp event had me trying a free cone (generous!!) and I was like, "whoa. I'm an idiot." This ice cream is so good and it's especially good if you're more of a gelato person: flavor and lightness over heavy cream. They source locally and they show it off. Not since Double Rainbow have I had a white, real-mint-flavored chocolate chip ice cream. Watch yourself buy a cone and then buy a pint of it immediately afterwards. Good stuff.

Benny C.

Yelp
This is probably one of the most solid ice cream shops I've been to! The topping options were interesting and having toasted marshmallow fluff on ice cream is an absolute game changer. It was essentially smores but in ice cream form. I got the strawberry basil and the flavor was hittin' in every way possible! The strawberry was creamy yet tart, but the flavors balanced each other out extremely well. The basil aroma was also very strong but it actually enhanced the strawberry ice cream flavor. The whole combo worked well and with the toasted marshmallow fluff just elevated my entire ice cream experience. I can't have ice cream without marshmallow fluff now!

Natasha R.

Yelp
Walked in with the plan to order a single scoop, walked out in confidence with 2 scoops and toasted marshmallow fluff. The staff is so welcoming. It was my first time at Penny Ice Cream, so it was nice to hear recommendations and the most popular flavors. You can't go wrong with a little boost from the staff that knows this ice cream the best (if only I could have them with me when I'm picking a nail color, hehe). The Penny Ice Creamery, originating in downtown Santa Cruz, serves up homemade specialty ice cream daily. The most popular flavors are: -Fresh Mint Chip -Verve Coffee w/ Chocolate Almond Praline -Toffee Butter I ordered one scoop of the Verve coffee and a scoop of the toffee butter with toasted marshmallow fluff. The verve coffee is not your average Jamocha flavor from baskin robbins. It is a true coffee ice cream. It was as if I was throwing straight coffee beans in my mouth. Delicious, bitter, rich - but so decadent. The toffee butter was so creamy, perfectly sweetened and such a treat with the bits of toffee. Not the kind of toffee that gets stuck in your teeth. The kind of toffee that just melts in your mouth. That toasted.marshmallow.fluff. Not sticky and annoying, but perfectly toasted and so very creamy! And the waffle cone....... made in store, different than any waffle cone I've tried. It tastes real. Real homemade. Not like it has been sitting our all day. Not tasting like a boxed cone. It's the real deal. Overall, cute little spot in Palo Alto, surrounded by many food and shop spots. Stop by and try a sample........of all the flavors!!!!

Venus L.

Yelp
I'll chalk up the price of the ice cream due to the area it's in. The Penny Ice Creamery was one of the must go to places on my colleague's list when they were visiting the Bay Area and I would be doing them a disservice if I didn't bring them along. Compared to some ice cream places, I feel like they offer less options which can be seen as a good thing because then you'll need less time to pick a flavor. On a Thursday afternoon, I ventured over here with 2 colleagues and it wasn't super busy. The ice cream place is also located in a shopping plaza so parking is abundant but can be tough during high peak hours. I opted for their blueberry orange ice cream with toasted marshmallow fluff on top and it was delicious, not too sweet. Overall, I can see myself coming back again. The service was also very friendly and helpful despite the crowd so thanks!

Inverleith F.

Yelp
Today was a treat to meet up with a friend who had chosen Penny for our latest ice cream adventure. Being summer, I chose the mini in plum. Because it was my first time here, the server comped the fluff topping. Thank you!!! Yes, it's pricey and probably the last time I will ever have this due to distance. My ice cream was creamy and filled with plums which added a nice sourness to the treat. All in a mini waffle cone and the awesome bruleed marshmallow Fluff. Whoever invented this is genius. Our kids grew up with Fluff because hubby is from the East Coast so they would enjoy Fluffernutter sandwiches. Now, I have to get a jar and start topping bowls of ice cream! Thank you for the nice treat and do support your local businesses.

Sharon H.

Yelp
I'm glad they replaced an ice cream shop with an ice cream shop since it's definitely needed in this plaza! The flavors are pretty limited- only 9 I think- but the three of us all found flavors that we enjoyed. There was a mix of classic and artisanal flavors- I had the verve coffee with chocolate almond praline, and my kids had the vegan chocolate and berry pink peppercorn I thought the service was great- the guy patiently let us sample almost all the flavors and helped me figure out what was the cheapest combination to get 3 scoops and 2 cones. I was also happily shocked when the girl making cones overheard me telling my kids they had to share their cone with mommy who didn't get her own cone, and brought me a fresh cone! That's the type of service that'll bring people back! they have a reward system spend $50 for $5 discount- which isn't bad since you get 25 points just for signing up. Some seats along the wall (no tables) inside, and tables and benches outside Also recently came across Penny ice cream in the Los Altos State Street market as well.

Anne P.

Yelp
Our regular ice cream spot in Palo Alto. The regular and seasonal flavors are all delicious. I appreciate their use of quality, organic ingredients.

Alexandra F.

Yelp
It's here! It's here! The Penny Creamery made its way to the Peninsula! A long time favorite from Santa Cruz is now closer for those treat days! The Penny creamery churns out freshly baked waffle cones, rotating flavors on a daily basis, and delicious toppings... especially the toasted marshmallow fluff. The sweet staff is so generous and kind in offering a taste of flavors that you may want to try; greeting you with a sincere welcome. Tucked away in an easily accessible corner of Town & Country Village, it's the perfect spot for some ice cream goodness. There is ample parking available in the parking lot, so not to worry. The line can get a bit long for this new spot, but we'll worth the wait. Pro tip: A mini double with marshmallow fluff! Perfect way to end the week!

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Had brunch at Wildseed and the toddler wanted some ice cream after. But not gonna lie, I did too! I remember years ago it used to be a Tin Pot which we loved. The Penny has a rather limited menu of flavors to choose from. We got the vanilla and mint chip. Both tasted great and I could really taste the fresh mint in the mint chip. I didn't really have any issue with the service. She came out from the back as soon as we entered and let us taste some samples before choosing. It is a small space without any real place to sit inside, but there's plenty of space outside! Our friends actually wanted to get some coffee so we walked the ice cream over to a table there and enjoyed it with coffee!

Minhye S.

Yelp
I've been to this ice cream store five times so far, and I honestly believe it has the best vanilla ice cream I've ever had in my life. It's so rich, creamy, and flavorful. Normally, I check Yelp before trying new restaurants or dessert places, but it was a hot day, and I was shopping with my 6-year-old daughter. We stumbled upon this new shop and decided to walk in. And OMG, it was the most amazing ice cream ever. A couple of weeks later, my friend visited me from out of town. I took her here and had her try the vanilla. She also agreed that it's the best ice cream ever. The next day, we had lunch in downtown Palo Alto and had ice cream at another store in downtown. It used to be my go-to place, but oh man, that tasted so bland after trying Penny Ice Cream, and she agreed. The next day, we went back here and started to chat with the staff. I told her that they make the best ice cream. She was very proud of their ice cream and explained how they make everything from scratch and also asked me if I would mind leaving a review. I didn't even remember if I've ever left any review on Yelp, but I'll go ahead and do it. That's the first time I checked the Yelp page, and I was shocked. Really? You guys don't like this? Don't be discouraged by poor reviews and give it a try. Since my first visit, I've tried vanilla, bitter caramel, mascarpone hazelnut, and mint chip flavors. Every flavor was fantastic.

Roman N.

Yelp
Tasty, high-quality ice cream! Grabbed dinner at Town and Country with a friend and was looking for some place to get dessert. We were walking around when we stumbled upon the Penny Ice Creamery. I totally forgot that they had replaced Tinpot Creamery. Decided to give it a shot because the flavors looked interesting. It seems like they rotate the flavors every day judging by the "Todays Flavors" sign on the door. I decided to get a mini double (two golf ball sized scoops) of Pecan Pie and Sour Cream Apple Walnut Crisp. They tasted great! The pecans in the Pecan Pie flavor were nice and soft, and had a candied taste to them, and the ice cream accompanying it (I believe it was vanilla) really brought out their flavor. The Sour Cream Apple Walnut Crisp was great as well. Although I couldn't really taste the crisp part, the chunks of apple that came in it reminded me of the apples that come in apple pie, semisweet and soft, with a hint of cinnamon. Both of these flavors were smooth and creamy, and I'll definitely come back and try if I'm in the area. If you find yourself in need of a sweet treat, come by the Penny Ice Creamery!

Mary Kay J.

Yelp
Stopped by Penny Ice Creamery tonight after a dinner nearby. This is such a cute place! The location is prime- in Town and Country Shopping Center, across the street from Palo Alto HS and Stanford University. The shop was clean and our "scooper" was very nice. You absolutely must get the TOASTED MARSHMALLOW FLUFF. So good!! There is also a very cute seating area in the front corner of the shop- great for pictures.

Nini T.

Yelp
I have been going to Penny's Ice creamy for years. I always go to the one in Santa Cruz! When I saw that they opened up in Palo Alto, I just knew I had to visit. My favorite is their bitter caramel ice cream topped with their torches marshmallow fluff. The waffle cone is a must! Just an amazing balance of sweet, salty, and a light buttery flavor. I am so in love with this combo! Definitely a must try! :)

Yen L.

Yelp
The Penny Ice Creamery offers a truly unique ice cream experience. The burnt caramel flavor is a standout--rich, deep, and slightly smoky, unlike anything you'll find elsewhere. I also loved the rum ice cream, which has a bold, strong alcohol taste, perfect for those who enjoy a boozy treat. The chocolate was decadent and smooth, while the rose flavor had a subtle floral note that was really refreshing. Service was great, though the place can get quite crowded in the evenings and on weekends, so be prepared to wait a bit. It's conveniently located in the Town & Country plaza, so convenient to stop by after a TJ's run or after enjoying a restaurant in the same plaza. Definitely worth a visit for a special ice cream indulgence!

Kris L.

Yelp
I was hesitant to try this place based on the low reviews, but IT WAS SO GOOD!! Yes they have a limited selection of flavor, but they are unique enough to be enticing for the whole family. I took our toddler and he loved the sorbet flavors. Service was great, they let us sample almost all the flavors. The quality is much higher than Salt and Straw and *definitely* better than Tinpot! I don't mind having slightly less quantity, the richness of their ingredients make up for it. Be sure to get the marshmallow topping!

Rachel L.

Yelp
i really like the santa cruz location but i felt that the palo alto location was slightly disappointing. i sampled 3 flavors and only ended up liking one of them, which rarely happens for me at an ice cream place. they have unique flavors that taste exactly like the description, which can be both a pro and a con - i feel that the flavor needs to be exactly up your alley for you to enjoy it. also, just wanted to note that there is barely any indoor seating - it's only enough room for one party.

Melissa Nicole H.

Yelp
Was excited to see The Penny Creamery move closer to home! We would usually have this when we would visit Santa Cruz. Went here on a Sunday warm afternoon and it had a bit of a line but it moved quickly. You're greeted with smiles and the smell of fresh waffle cones being made. We tried their Verve coffee ice cream in a waffle cone with marshmallow fluff. (Always get marshmallow fluff , signature topping)! Overall: 5/5

Christopher P.

Yelp
Had the Verve Coffee w/ chocolate almond praline. The ice cream itself was good, not great - maybe 3 stars. But the marshmallow fluff that they toast with a blowtorch is 5 star and the service is friendly.

Linz C.

Yelp
I miss the old tin pot creamery. My tiny single scoop was $8 not including tip. I had the fresh mint chip and was disappointed in the texture. Was not creamy at all and had sort of an icy texture. It also completely melted in like 2 minutes. What a tragedy.

Zach S.

Yelp
As someone mourning the loss of our local Palo Alto Tin Pot Creamery, when this place opened up I was excited for a potential replacement, though it looked quite lackluster compared to its predecessor. But after trying it, I was heavily disappointed. As pointed out by the other reviews, the main problem here is the portion sizes. I got a mini double, where sure, it has mini in the name so you might expect the size to be small. But for the $7.25 price you'd expect some decent serving; but no, I got basically 3 bites of each flavor. In fact, I could probably fit the entire scoop in one spoon. The presentation was also awful; I got pineapple sorbet and a rose petal flavor; the rose petal actually had some circular shaped to it but the pineapple sorbet looked just thrown onto the side of my cup like an afterthought. For how little ice cream they gave, it was only further emphasized by the super large cup they served it in; the ice cream should be served in a cup proportional in size so it looks more full! In terms of flavor, the rose petal one was pretty good; however the pineapple sorbet was really icy and too sweet, so I didn't enjoy it. I definitely should've sampled it first; they did allow that at least. I tried one or two others, but their flavor selection was pretty limited to begin with, which is understandable since they are new, but no flavor there was worth the price point. TL;DR: save your $7.25 and go buy an actual whole pint of ice cream from literally anywhere.

Jessica N.

Yelp
I was so excited to hear they were opening up in the peninsula! I've been to the Santa Cruz location and remember the ice cream being really good especially the toasted marshmallow fluff topping. At first I didn't understand why the reviews here were so low. But now I do. The ice cream quality itself is inconsistent. Some flavors had an icy texture while others were too soft/melted. I sampled 4 flavors: Tahitian vanilla bean, coffee, fresh mint chocolate, and the bees business. None of them blew me away. I ended up getting the Tahitian vanilla bean. As far as people complaining about the price, this is "premium" ice cream not your average Baskin Robbins.

Omar A.

Yelp
The flavors here are not kid-friendly. When I mentioned this to the clerk, she just shrugged her shoulders. She couldn't do much about it, but some friendliness would have been enough. On top of that, when my son sampled an ice cream and didn't like it, she discouraged him from trying another flavor. If you have kids, I wouldn't recommend coming here.

Debra G.

Yelp
LOVE! THIS! PLACE! The ice cream is amazing and the people are too! I'm from Nor Cal and was only in Palo Alto for the weekend. By far, going to this creamery was by far one of the best choices I made...2 times in one day...in one hour! Both the creamery associates were friendly and amazingly helpful! So glad I stopped in! Both of you made my day with your amazing personalities and fabulous yummy ice cream! (04/14/24 around 2-2:30 PM)

Emily L.

Yelp
Our first time here - we got a mini scoop of the lemon poppyseed ice cream. Service was quick and helpful enough and let us taste test items. Overall though the store looked dirty, the texture of the ice cream wasn't good, we ended up just getting a huge ick and not wanting to even finish our small scoop. Also $7 for a scoop that's equivalent to the baskin robbins kids size is INSANE. The other reviews were right - overpriced and downright doesn't taste good. We will NOT be back.

Tom P.

Yelp
the ice cream is very rich and delicous. the vanilla is potent. if there is a down side its that its very rich. not sure about the negative reviews, its expensive ice cream, what were you expecting?

Hannah Z.

Yelp
the ice cream here tastes pretty darn good! i had the caramel brownie flavor and while it didn't blow my socks off, it was tasty. my only problem is that the mini scoop i got cost $6.25 without tip! you can definitely get similar quality ice cream but with larger portion sizes at other places. overall, i would come here if you're in the area and really craving ice cream. if not, my opinion is that you may be better off getting ice cream elsewhere!

Yelp
Very disappointed with this place. Customer service was horrible. While there were 3 employees working, only 1 person was helping customers. The other 2 moved around in the background ignoring the line. Finally got our ice cream & that was a bigger disappointment. It was watery & tasteless. Will not recommend nor will we come back again.

Yelp
Ok, let me start with this......EXTREMELY OVERPRICED ICE CREAM!!!!! I will never be back, it's good but not THAT good. This tiny scoop that fits in one plastic spoon was $7.25 plus tax. I don't care how bad inflation is, almost $8 for this tiny insanity is not acceptable by any means. Not even in a branded cup, not creamy, it's icy.... Never again.

Yelp
Love Penny ice cream and go to Santa Cruz often to get my treat. When they opened the store in Palo Alto I was happy and just went there yesterday. But I am super disappointed, prices are high (as expected to be in Palo Alto) but the portion are super small.

Yelp
The ice cream is great, but is rather small for the price which is pretty expected yet still off putting. Those who've helped me when in store are very helpful and welcoming, but I do notice that they seem to be required to make waffle cones/clean the area where they make cones immediately, since I've had to stand around in the store waiting on multiple occasions watching them clean waffle cones or making them. I don't fault them, seems to be more of a management issue since it's happened with multiple people? One time the person who I would assume to be the manager was there in the store and she seemed a smidge rude. Same experience, stood around for ~5 minutes waiting, until another girl came (she was very sweet and thanked us for waiting) and helped me get my order. The people there genuinely very sweet and provide good service when I am helped, the ice cream is good, just seems like the way the store is managed results in lots of awkward waiting. Hoping this review is visible enough that something higher up might make a change or provide an explanation as to why the waffle cones are such high priority (I am genuinely curious and would understand if there was a valid reason) and if so would be happy to edit my review.

Yelp
Ice cream was great, but service was very disappointing. We kept waiting for them to help us: they just went inside after serving the folks before us without a word. 5 minutes passed and they came back and then were very annoyed by the fact that I ordered a mini double with an extra cone so I could split the scoops myself for my toddlers who wouldn't eat a ton. She wanted to charge me for two minis which would've been 6.25x2 = 12.5 whereas I was creative and got what I wanted for 7.25+1 = 8.25. She literally said then everyone will do this and we can't charge them. It was my creativity-- if I want to take two scoops and then split them into cones, what's the big deal? Then she asked me what flavors for the mini double so I said both chocolate, and she said that not a mini double, it's a single, which basically had the same price as the mini double. But she felt it important to school me about her pricing options. Then I asked her for a spoon and then again she schooled me "Your son is coughing and he touched the spoons so I threw them all away." whereas he didn't touch them, he had only reached toward them. Overall I felt extremely uncomfortable and got perhaps racist vibes, not sure if that's a stretch.
