Truly, The People's Kitchen has to have the most delicious food in Lansing. Every dish is high quality and well made. Plus the waitstaff always gives excellent service. Do yourself a favor and go for brunch. Their pancakes are the best I've ever had. Pictured are the Espresso Martini (amazing) and the Hippie Quiche (amazing). I have tried something new each time I've gone because it's all so good.

Dined here on 5/3/25 and thoroughly enjoyed it! Service was friendly, the food was great (beet salad, fish and chips for one entree, smash burger and smashed fingerling potatoes for the other). The salad was great with fresh beets and both entrees came out very hot and fresh. The menu varied greatly as did the clientele - it’s always refreshing to go to a creative, locally-owned restaurant where seniors are dining next to hipster students and everyone is enjoying themselves. I love this place and always look forward to coming back!

Google
High quality ingredients, equally amazing food. Everything I have tried here, in the hand full of times I’ve visited, was delicious! Atmosphere is causal, staff are welcoming. Our server did rush us unnecessarily when we were first seated, which was off putting, but at the end she had a better attitude. Over highly recommended restaurant! (Be advised weekday & weekend menus are different)

Google
Beyond excited I finally got to try the place. The syrup on the waffles was out of this world. Chicken was perfectly cooked. This chorizo sandwich....its magnificent. Just order it

Google
It's one of the best restaurants I've been to in Lansing. The menue is somewhat small, as is the space inside. This has allowed them to focus on perfecting their dishes and to working as a team. I loved the pork chop I had, and my girl loved her cauliflower dish. My only suggestion is if coming on the weekend get reservations. It is slower during the week or early afternoon. I will definitely be back again. Thank you for such delicious food.

Google
This is a gem in Lansing for brunch. They have the best chicken and waffles I have ever eaten - I really like chicken and waffles. The menu is “elevated” American food and does not disappoint for flavor. That said, the first time I went in I was expecting a more affordable menu given it is name for the people ;P I have also had a couple unique drinks here which are also great though a tad on the expensive side. Sometimes the staff are busy and the wait can be longer than expected, so give yourself ample time. All the servers are friendly and attentive despite probably overworked.

Gnocchi was best I e ever had and have traveled in Italy. Here is blonde brownie and just wonderful. Excellent service. Try lavender cocktail or mocktail

Google
Enjoyed lunch at PK today. I had the Chicken Sandwich and Side Salad. To start, the atmosphere is eclectic and cool. The service was great, I was welcomed right away and our server Danielle was super friendly. The sandwich was lights out. Perfectly crispy and juicy. The salad was also great, whatever dressing they use is exceptional. Highly recommend this spot! I’ll be back!

Yelp
What is not to love about this place? Very friendly staff. Great food. Really cool vibe. At the recommendation of the host I had the chicken and grits, which was perfect. They have a full bar with good beers on tap. I hear the pancakes are stupid good. It's also a great location if you are visiting Michigan State University. It's on Michigan Ave just past the freeway on the left.

Yelp
We made reservations so we'd be sure to get a table - the hostess seated us right next to another full table even though there were many other better options offering privacy for conversations with our friends / so we asked to move & she kindly sat us where we selected. We were waited on quickly & have no complaints about the service or flavor of our food - however how do you love & not like a restaurant at the same time - love the food - had the fish & it came with an awesome sauce & more fries than I could or should eat but no other side - where's the coleslaw or a small side salad option. - I would trade the fries for a bit of green. My companion had the burger which he said was good but again potatoes but no other side option. Sure we could order a large meal size salad (the only option) but the main course really doesn't warrant a side that big & who wants to add that much extra to their bill. All in all we enjoyed our meal but probably won't be back anytime soon.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, great decor, great food. I came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't busy so we were in and out in a timely manner. My food was so good, I cleared my plate. I had the chicken and grits and Omgosh, it was amazing! The grits were smooth and creamy with a little bit of texture, but you can tell these are the real deal grits, not that Quaker in box grits. The presentation is beautiful. The cheese and tomato sauce with the pickled onion were not a combination I would expect on grits. It took me by surprise but I loved every aspect of it. My mom loved her chicken and waffles. I have to come back and try that. Their mocktails were good but you have to give them a good stir before you slurp it down. Only downside is the bathroom is not wheelchair accessible; it's in the back and downstairs. They have a patio but that was full so we sat inside. I can't wait to come back and try something else.

Yelp
Everything was delicious with great portions and friendly service! Ordered the quiche and loved how perfectly cooked and flavorful it was.

Yelp
Ok, I'll start this out by saying I was here for brunch and have not been for any other meal yet, so this is for you earlyriser brunch lovers like me. We were looking for a breakfast place and heard about the brunch at People's. Our friends said to get there early if you can because it's busy- and it was. The wait wasn't terrible, but there was a wait. Not sure if they do reservations for a larger party, but we were 3. The decor and ambiance is fun, fresh, and colorful. Makes you want to be there. The menu for brunch had a great variety and we tried to order a bit of everything to try. They make fresh whipped cream with different flavors, don't skip this on your coffee, it was sinful and decadent. The Mocktail was a delicious. The food was fantastic. The pancake name does not lie- and the homemade syrup- gah! Amazing. Portions were big. The meat on the Benny was tender and not fatty. The sausage gravy on the biscuit was definitely homemade and had such great flavor. The service was just as pleasant as the food and we can't wait to go back for a different meal. Totally worth the wait.

Yelp
First and foremost, I love the ambiance of this restaurant--trendy, nostalgic, and a little quirky. Service was exemplary, and I really enjoyed the baked manchego and pappardelle. Both were delicious!

Yelp
Brunch at The People's Kitchen hits all the marks--creative and delicious dishes, prompt and friendly service (we were seated right away), and a cool industrial-hipster vibe. The patio also looks like the perfect spot to enjoy brunch when the weather warms up. Might just be the best brunch spot in Lansing for foodies.

Yelp
The food was amazing and the staff was great and helpful with suggestions. Drink menu seemed a little limited. Higher end prices so not the best spot for kids. I forgot to post when this happened in July so I don't remember much else. Worth a look though based on food, staff and ambiance.

Yelp
There is accessible parking available which is great for east lansing. Also there are seats inside and outside. The ambiance inside is great. Plenty of colorful pieces of art on the walls. The service was pretty good. The server was knowledgeable on recommendations. We got the mussels as an appetizer and they were good. Nothing too great that I would order again but they were good. The ribeye on the other hand was amazing. Perfectly cooked to a medium rare temperature just like I wanted. The potatoes that came with the burger were also delicious. The burger itself was huge! The dessert is a must try! We tried two different ones and they were delicious!

Yelp
If you are in the MSU area and you need a quick bite to eat from a solid burger joint, then People's Kitchen may be perfect for you. Everyone one at our table got the same burger and smash potatoes. We were all very satisfied. The restaurant is pretty big with both patio, indoor & bar seating available. Also shouts out to the waiter she was super nice and patience with us.

Yelp
People's Kitchen is a welcoming establishment with superb energy and decor. We have enjoyed them in the past for an occasional breakfast or work lunch. Most recently, we have appreciated the "pop-up's" they have been offering. We joined them for Caviar and Cocktails and were well pleased! Each piece of caviar was beautifully constructed and the melody of flavors was spot on. The French 75 was a perfect accompaniment for my palette!

Yelp
The food is SO good and the menu options are really unique and it's all amazing . The service is fast and friendly . The atmosphere is really cool w artwork and I like the music . This is my favorite restaurant in Lansing !! Thanks people kitchen !

Yelp
Very nice breakfast menu, short read, one-sided, and keeps a fresh food. Our waiter was very good and answered our questions about the menu. The Peoples Kitchen is well maintained, and there is lots of seating available. Very well lite, windows that let in the light. One reason I like to come to this restaurant is not only the food and service is you can actually carry on conversations without raising your voice. You can walk in or call for a reservation.

Yelp
Only in Lansing would one of the best restaurants around be a creative, farm-to-table-style place with reclaimed/DIY decor and punk murals. The food is excellent and there are always several intriguing things on the seasonal menu. Cocktails and mocktails also delicious. Service has always been friendly and knowledgeable. For the price, i do kinda wish they made a more consistent effort to ethically source, but still my go-to for special occasions.

Yelp
Best brunch in town. Eclectic vibes, unique menu. Bar options are not the best, but cover the bare minimums in terms of speciality cocktails. Make reservations if you are able, as this is a desirable spot in town, but last I checked out door seating is first come first serve only. Dinner is upscale, and sometimes adventurous, but it comes with a loftier price tag.

Yelp
Such a cool vibe! The hostess was busy wrapping utensils but was quick to greet me upon arrival. I inquired about parking since the building is shared with other businesses. She was super friendly and reassured me I was parked in the correct area. Once seated our waitress brought us waters and informed us of the soup of the day. They do not have a kid's menu but they have a lot of breakfast add-ons to choose from for the littles. Our table chose the French toast, crispy Yukons, chicken and waffles, chopped Caesar salad, their infamous pancakes and the soup of the day. The soup was a brothy chicken and vegetable soup with a kick. It was delicious! Very savory flavor with just the right amount of spice. The French toast was delectable and very sweet. All of the flavors meshed together well. The chopped Caesar was fresh and crisp. The croutons were housemade and super tasty. The chicken and Waffles was super savory and the jalapeno syrup was different but so good. The crispy Yukons were simple but delicious. The pancakes are very appropriately named. They give you two very large, dinner plates size pancakes with a charred lemon butter syrup that is so tasty! The bar looked to have a great variety of choices but we didn't get drinks this time. Two at our table did enjoy a Brix orange cream soda. We look forward to returning and trying something new at that visit.

Yelp
Amazing all around and so cute! Really great service (Alac - she had lots of recommendations & was super personable) loved our cocktails and the food was incredible! For drinks we got: The Lavender 75 (probably the best lavender drink I've ever had - and I've tried many) Bloody Mary's (with the cutest side car). For food we had: The Harvest Quiche (delicious vegetarian option w. a crisp salad on the side), an add on pancake (omg...SO good. The is amazing) The Chicken & Grits (so colorful and flavorful) and If it Ain't broke (classic breakfast, but better. The potatoes looked awesome!) Oh and a side biscuit (wow - never had a biscuit like that, very good!) Definitely a good brunch spot. We for sure will be back - we heard the dinners are really good there too! I don't typically write reviews but it was such a good experience, I had to share!

Chani W.

Yelp
The ambiance was nice and colorful but they have a limited menu for lunch. Decided to get the fish tacos off of my server's recommendation. While the presentation was optimistic, the tacos had no flavor, the fish was bland, and what send me over the edge was that parts of the skin of the fish were chewy (gag). It was not a good meal -- I even got food poisoning later in the evening. In hindsight, it was January in Lansing so the fish was probably not the freshest option. I think People's Kitchen has better food options available but I would never recommend the tacos to anyone.

Yelp
Tow friends and I have brunch here on a Saturday. We had amazing service. The most delicious coffee with a homemade whipped cream with orange zest. I had the French toast with bacon. And the potatoes were to die for! It's a little loud. It has a coo vibe!

Yelp
First time customer. Forever a favorite! Everything was amazing from the service to the food. We had the oysters and fried green tomatoes as appetizers. My husband had the lamb kofta and I had the steak burger cooked medium rare. I also drank "The Final Word" which is a gin braised drink that was delicious. Our reservation was at 6, we had our drinks, apps and food completed by 6:55pm. Highly recommend if you are in the Lansing area. My husband and I split the poached pear dessert! Yumm!

Yelp
I'm from Atlanta and I visited here on a Thursday night with my boyfriend. I must say I was quite impressed. My boyfriend, who's from the area, mentioned he never been here before but heard great things about it. People's kitchen is a cute spot with a diversity of foods. The menu seems to change quite often when trying to compare dishes on the current menu with those in yelp but it was okay. I ordered the roasted chicken which was very juicy and tender, was paired with string beans, haricot, almonds, mushrooms and wedged potatoes over a bed of orange sauce. The sauce was really good, reminded me of a un-hot buffalo sauce. Sauce wasn't overbearing and paired with the dish perfectly. I ordered the Hey Girl Hey cocktail which was really fresh and flavorful. My date got Lamb Kafta he said it was delicious. He paired his lamb with a Blackberry Lemonade Cocktail and said it was "fire" aka really good. lol Ultimately a really good spot for diverse foods and crafted cocktails. Would definitely revisit.

Yelp
I love the unusual menu and soda selection. The service is great. The decor is eclectic. The prices are just a tad high in my opinion.

Yelp
Pancakes was delicious we split as an appetizer-why not Chicken sandwich was also very good High recommendation

Yelp
This place is so wonderful and is an instant favorite for me in the Lansing area! The atmosphere here is relatively casual and wholesome, the food is elevated and just SO tasty, and the service is friendly and fast! What more can you ask for?! (There's also an escape room right below the restaurant if you really insist on asking for more haha! Bundle your meal with some entertainment with your whole party as well!) I'll be the first one to say the vibes did not match up with the level of food I then saw on the menu! The vibes are very informal, the space is large and open, they use recycled body shop decor, and things are just so lively! I didn't think to expect too much from the food menu, but then I looked at it and was blown away by how interesting and "up-scale" all the dishes were, while also not having unreasonable prices! Also, the staff are delightful! I asked for a mocktail and they brought over probably one of the more interesting mocktails I've ever tried! It was some sort of green-juice based drink that felt healthy and delicious at the same time! As for the food, my friends and I split the scallops to start and they were SCRUMPTIOUS! For my main, I got the pork belly and oh my goodness - DIVINE! Other than the skin of the pork belly being a little too rock solid to cut through and chew (I just flipped it over and was easily able to pull the meat/fat off with the firm base of the skin on the bottom now haha), truly everything we had was just sooo delicious! My friends all enjoyed their mains as well and we just had an absolutely wonderful time here soaking up the vibes! Will definitely be back SOON!

Yelp
French Toast was "to die for."Service was friendly & attentive.its the type of place that feels good when you walk in.

Yelp
Food, company, service all great. We were out if towners and happened onto a great meal on a holiday-yay

Christian R.

Yelp
Food was outstanding. I sat at the bar and service was hit or miss. Overall good atmosphere, but just be prepared it might be a long wait for the food. Hats off to the kitchen for the food to overcome the duration of wait and in and out service. The portion sizes aren't the largest, but the taste is phenomenal. My overall review is purely based off of the food quality, I travel a ton for work and enjoy a great tasting meal after a long day.
google avatar

Samantha W.

Yelp
This was a great dining experience. From the prompt seating right through checkout via Toast, we enjoyed every bite, every interaction with our server, the Better Irish Coffee, and side of amazing sausage with literally chunks of garlic inside! It was so delicious. Side Note, there may be handicap accessible restrooms tucked in a corner but I did descend a flight of stairs to access the restroom. Perhaps there's a separate entrance to the lower level. It was a social kitchen and I think that sort of decor lends itself to a more open atmosphere, a little more noise than my preference. But it was upbeat and had kind of hipster vibe. Even kind of dive bar .. for brunch. It was great!

Yelp
You're either open or closed, sending customers away at 3:00 after telling them you're open on the phone is garbage, garbage service, garbage management garbage, garbage, garbage!

Yelp
I love love love the atmosphere at The People's Kitchen! The food is also of amazing quality. Their plating is always fresh and vibrant! Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Wow! So much flavor for brunch! Come here for a savory meal and delicious coffee. I got the biscuits and gravy-just the right balance of gravy and meat/sausage and the buttermilk biscuits melt in your mouth. Our waitress recommended the zest orange cream with my coffee and I'm glad she did! I wanted to try more on the menu but by the end of the meal, I was stuffed. Staff is great! Clean and vibing!

Yelp
I have done my best to support this local business the past five years - the ultra high prices, small servings, and only fair food made support a challenge. Today my wife and I made reservations for 5:30pm. We walked in and there were only three other parties dining at that time. Still, the host proceeded to sit us directly next to a four top that had six people dining at it. I asked the host if we could move one over so both my wife and I and the other party could have elbow room. He said "no - everything was reserved for tonight." I'm not sure how with the name "The People's Kitchen" and in this place, at this time, the server felt the host felt comfortable denying a reasonable request. I had been patient with the place in the past but this was not okay. My wife and I walked out and went down the road to "the Soup Spoon" which never disappoints. This particular choice to not be reasonable and accommodating will be difficult to move past. I wish this establishment well in the future.

Yelp
My first time here and let me say, I couldn't even wait to dig in my food to take a picture. So, pardon my half eaten potatoes! I have been wanting to try this place for awhile and I was not disappointed. The breakfast potatoes were so dreamy, highly recommend them. The staff was very kind, and they were very accommodating for our large brunch party! Prices were decent as well. Definitely will be returning!!!!

Yelp
This is THE place to get brunch in Lansing (I don't make the rules). It's very accessible, and parking in the back is easy. Seating is quick, and the ambience is fun and quirky. I had a really good Irish coffee the last time I went, but the real star of the show is the food! The lemon pancakes are decadent but not too sweet and ever so fluffy. Likewise, the short rib eggs benedict is so rich and flavorful, and I left feeling full and satisfied. The meal was also not exorbitantly priced, which I greatly appreciated. They have plenty of room for larger parties, it seems, and I would definitely bring all of my friends here!

Yelp
We've driven past this place many times over the years but never knew what it was. There's a nice mural on the side of the building, and they added patio seating during the pandemic, so we decided to give it a try. The menu is very limited, but the choices allow for a variety based on your diet. We stopped by on a Sunday around 1ish, so I guess you can call that brunch. I ordered The Plot Chickens... and my husband ordered Return of the Mac. We were both very happy with our meals. It was very good and more than enough to fill us up. The food looked simply delightful the way it was served. No extras. Just simple elegance. The interior design is industrial but functional. The silverware is wrapped in cloth napkins, which gives the place a fancy vibe. The ambience caters to a younger crowd mainly because it's a bit on the loud side. This isn't the place to hold serious conversations unless you don't mind yelling or repeating yourself. The only thing that keeps me from giving the place five stars would be the restrooms. They are located downstairs (shared with the escape rooms) and does not smell good at all. It just smelled and felt dirty. If you can dine and avoid the restrooms, then you're good.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Overall, liked the ambiance as it had flair, making it feel different than other traditional breakfast spots. Service was efficient... we were immediately greeted and seated, and after our orders were placed, the food was delivered in the expected timeframe. I ordered the pancakes and enjoyed the lemony twist to the flavor.

Steve B.

Yelp
Been here multiple times and have never been disappointed. Food and service In addition to the food the Irish coffee has a great kick to start your day!
google avatar

Renee B.

Yelp
I've had a mixed opinion about people's kitchen bc the service has been super slow in the past and drinks have taken forever to come out.(one time we got our food before our drinks). The portions ive had in the past were pretty small for the price as well...Also sad they got rid of their vegan options. Today I went for brunch w friends and LOVED the food! Got 3 bottles of Champaign to share with friends and the portions were huge so I wasn't upset about the price at all! Wasn't really going to come back after repeated attempts but after today I'm going to! Food was to die for and service was much better!
google avatar

Carolyn E.

Yelp
This place is fantastic. Great service, cool vibes, excellent food and drinks. A bit pricey, but worth it. The burger is the best I've had in awhile - the texture is perfect with the house ground steak patty. I also had the grilled caesar which I thought was really good and flavorful. Everyone raved about what they ordered - especially the morel mushrooms in the chicken dish and the perfectly cooked crispy skin on the trout. The dessert at the end - the pavlova - was really top notch. Crispy and then chewy, yummy sauce, delicious. I highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting the Lansing area.

Yelp
Wonderful food and service. The staff is wonderful. Everything on the breakfast menu was yummy! Will be going back for sure!

Yelp
Walked in and it reminded of a hip taco place. Ordered the Roasted Delicata Squash salad to start. Greens were fresh and plentiful, the apple and dressing were scarce, didn't care for the bland squash. Boring salad. Ordered the Scallops next which came nicely presented but you only get 3 for $39! The purée was okay, very limited Brussels sprouts, and the burnt onion agrodolce was neither sweet or sour. Finally, we ordered the Confit Pork Belly. True it's supposed to be salty and fatty but it was way too salty and so greasy. Appreciate and will pay for the farm to table experience but for those prices I expected amazing flavors.

Yelp
Came here for brunch and was definitely impressed. The staff were all super nice and we received great service. Warning- portions are huge here! I got the Quiche Latifa which was very flavorful and had fluffy eggs too. My friend got the french toast which is made with Challah bread- he gave it the seal of approval as well. My cold brew coffee also came in tiki glass which was a fun touch. I will definitely be coming back to try other lunch and dinner menu items.

Yelp
A group of 4 of us were there on Saturday. I'll just write my personal observations. It was my first time there and I will likely return. I have a few complaints though. Service was good. Ambiance was a little loud. We asked for the music to be turned down a little but I don't think they did that. The music wasn't really to my liking, but I can let that go. I ordered an Irish coffee -- it was good, but did not include whipped cream on top, which is what I think of with an Irish coffee. Serving it in a clear glass mug would be nice too. It was really just coffee, in a mug, with a shot of Irish whiskey. The whipped cream would have made it a little special. $9.00. The Smoked Salmon Tartine was delicious -- nice presentation too ($17.00). I ordered a side of "house smoked bacon" for $5.00 -- it was literally 2 slices and tasted like nothing special. So that was disappointing. I'd return -- but would be choosy about my sides. Just an entree and regular coffee.

Yelp
We love the People's Kitchen for a good dinner (or brunch). We had the squash tempura, the risotto, the duck, and the chicken. All were divine, service is always great. I recommend stopping by during happy hour for a cocktail or draft. I think their menu changes but last time I was there I had the lavender draft with some blue crab corn fritters.

Yelp
Small lunch menu, one side for every meal, but it was all so delicious! The fish and chips was my meal and it was legit! Deliciously crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. The rest of the diners also enjoyed their meals. None of us finished our potatoes so we reheated them later for a breakfast side. Yum!
