The Perk has successfully turned their parking lot into an outdoor dining garden complete with beautiful Japanese bonsai specimens from Bucks Bonsai landscapers. With large umbrellas and heating towers, it is a pleasant place to have a late lunch on a chill Saturday afternoon with the sun casting it's golden hue.
This is a great place to enjoy the Borough of Perkasie, a tight community in northwest Bucks.
I sat with the sun at my back and ordered a Blue Moon draft, French Onion Soup and Sauteed Pierogi from their appetizer menu. I also asked for takeout of Crab Cake and Chicken Parm sandwiches for my working family.
The beer was served in a soft plastic glass with orange slice split over the rim. Cool and refreshing. The beef broth and translucent onions were very good once I pierced the thick layer of melted provolone that sealed the steaming contents of the of the potage d'oignon gratinee. Liked it alot. The pierogi arrived in a styro container. There were four homemade potato pasta pockets that had been sauteed in butter and thin sliced browned onions. These were excellent, and I would have loved if there were one or two more in the box. Still, it was an appetizer, not an entree, so I understood they were designed more as a delicious tease than main course.
Last night, my wife and stepson came home to the crab cake and chicken parm. After a short reheat I sampled both and found them to be superior sandwiches. The crab cake was fresh, sweet and housed in a brioche roll. The parmigiana was a thick chicken breast, well breaded, with a decent red gravy and melted cheese. Very good. Both came with house deep fried potato chips. Nicely done.
The Perk is an anchor establishment in Perkasie, and well worth the travel from home to stop in now and then. If we lived closer, I would no doubt be a regular.
