I'm remembering back a few days to when we went here, and the thing I remember most vividly is the lemon meringue dessert we had. Picture this : the passionately birthed love-child of a lemon pots de crème and the most pillowy, chewy marshmallow you've ever had the pleasure of encountering. Divine!
Ok, I digress, we did have other things to eat here other than the lemon dessert, but that my friends, is why I'll be returning. We did have other things...I ordered the chocolate mousse which was topped with a thick layer of complex chocolate ganache. It was good, but after having that lemon concoction, nothing really could compete.
For our main dishes, I ordered the seasonal grain bowl, and he ordered the grass fed beef sando. I was a little bummed about my vegetarian options, because the meat items sounded so much more interesting and delicious, but the lady who took our order said the grain bowl was "the best thing on the menu" which I disagree with, but that's just me.
The grain bowl was massive and a little odd, with roasted squash, brown rice, brussels sprouts, sprouts, seeds and more, but it didn't exactly go together, and I felt like some/most of the items needed more seasoning. I didn't enjoy it and I definitely don't think it was the best item on the menu by far. I wished it had some cheese, or perhaps some sauce that brought everything together, but the way it was ended up sort of bland and overall mediocre.
His beef sando smelled really good. I love Calabrian chili oil, and his had that incorporated in a very impactful way. The sando had a kale salad IN IT which was packed with almonds, and honestly I would definitely would have rather had his sando/salad and just ordered no meat, than had what I ordered. He however, since he hasn't been eating much meat (I'm the chef at home) got a bit queasy after he ate that much softly cooked but still very pink/red meat.
I love the location, but it can be tricky to get to especially on a busy day. The day we visited, there was massive work going on in the street, and we had to do some evasive maneuvers to try and get into the parking area. The lady who I think is the owner or manager, was quite short with us, and I never ended up getting a receipt or signed for my transaction which I thought was odd. Apparently this chilly reception is an ongoing quality here from other reviews I read. Overall we will return for the dessert, and to give them another shot on entrees, but I think they have some QA to improve especially in the challenging time of covid.
