First time at The Pheasant since the refurbishment. It's now focusing on the carvery side of things and although there are quite a few alternative choices on the menu, most people seemed to go for the carvery. There was a good choice of vegetables, and although a couple of us were veggies, we decided to have the carvery without the meat. Unfortunately nobody seemed to expect that veggies also like a 'Sunday roast' so to speak and there was no replacement for the meat however the stuffing was veggie and there was veggie gravy! Could do with putting a bit of thought into that and have a nut roast or similar (please don't do what a lot of places do and offer something like a quiche, that doesn't go with a roast dinner!)The veg was good and there were 3 types of potato and leeks in cheese sauce, yum. The yorkshires were a bit strange, very spongy, but tasted ok. Although we ate early in the evening there was not the full choice of meats available for the meat eaters, but what there was was good, apparently. The carvery was really good value for money. The starters were ok, nothing out of the ordinary. We didn't have any desserts but the coffee was nice. If there was a criticism it was that there weren't enough staff. This was a Friday night and the place was packed, but it took some time to get our orders taken and get drinks. This wasn't helped by a very slow barman who took an age to pour the drinks and then the servers had to find time to go back and get them from the bar. It would have made more sense for the barman to bring them over. All in all a nice pub, good value for money and good food, nothing spectacular on the menu but if your looking for a good old fashioned roast, this is the place.
