"Sitting within the hotel of the same name, this elegant restaurant has a country house feel that combines classical and contemporary design touches. Diners are split between the inside dining room and a less formal conservatory, while a lovely terrace overlooks the village duck pond. The appealing menus take a seasonal approach, with classically based dishes providing plenty of flavour. An all-day set-up means you can pop in for anything from breakfast to a nightcap, via afternoon tea and, on Sundays, a roast lunch." - Michelin Inspector

We went to this place for a Christmas dinner before the main celebrations kicked off over Christmas week. We went on a busy Saturday and had a carvery. Service was okay, the waiters seemed a little slow at times and didn't really check in with us on drinks or how our food was, generally it was just 'okay' we were also left a while to pay our bill. The food was middling tier. Given the business I expected the carvery to be of better quality with meat being refreshed regularly but the meats were still dry and some of the vegetables like the Brussels were overcooked and lacked structure.

We had our Staff Christmas meal last night at The Phesant. It was a lovely evening, food was delicious! I want to say a special thank you to Amanda and Garath. I have a lot of dietary requirements, and I have never been able to have a meal out for such a long time. Gareth and Amanda met me as I walked in and planned a separate meal. Gareth the chef cooked everything separate and followed all the important allergy guidelines. It was the first time I could join in with everyone else! Thank you!!!!

Went here with work colleagues to celebrate two of our birthdays. I am vegan and was disappointed that there were only two vegan options on the menu. Neither of which I wanted. The carvery menu said a vegan pie was available on request, so I decided on that. When I got to the carvery I requested the vegan option only to be advised that it was part of the main menu and had to be ordered separately from the carvery! Both people I spoke to were rude and more intent on being "right" than on providing a good service. In the end I had to quite firmly ask them to leave it. Not wanting to hold up others I ended up with a plate of veg, which was nothing special. When I paid I explained and was told they would only charge me for a small carvery. Still a cost of £15.50 for a plate of mediocre vegetables! No apology or any attempt to put things right. The table service was good, but to be frank I'd had a better home cooked meal at friends' the night before! Felt like I had been ripped off and won't be eating here again.

Excellent gluten free options. Staff were lovely and welcoming. The brownie for dessert was very rich but delicious, and far too big to finish!

First time visiting for a Sunday roast and was not disappointed. The carvery style was great with the chefs giving generous meat portions and very friendly. The vegetables were fresh and delicious, complemented with a banging gravy. The staff were on the ball and very friendly.

First class service from all staff on duty tonight. Very efficient and friendly, thank you. A special thank you to the Manageress for helping me get my Wadworths rewards points added to my card. It is so nice to be greeted and looked after by such friendly and attentive staff. Food and beer were delicious 🙏 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Went mid afternoon on a Tuesday, felt like I almost had the place to myself. Could order off the menu but had to wait until 5.30 for the carvery to be started. I had a little wait but it was still worth it, hadn't had a carvery in quite a while... so was a good choice! Ticked all the the boxes and the chef was a good lad. I'll be back

Roast dinners from the carvery are superb and good value. We had dinner there on Friday 31st Oct which was really good and afterwards watched a live band called sleepwalkers who were exceptional. As an added bonus the blue light card is accepted for food and drink so we will definately be going there much more.

Yelp
First time visiting a carvery. You outset the number of meats and then you get unlimited sides. My kids loved the pub burger and the desserts were all great too. We had a reservation and table was ready for early. Friendly staff and great table service.

Yelp
This place is a carvery and we visited last Sunday - a table of 9 - all of us went with the carvery option apart from one (who ordered pasta - typical stroppy teen - just to be different). With the carvery you get one visit through the line - the portions of meat could have been larger - but I could have also asked for more I guess. The veg was all well prepared but the roast potatoes could have been a little more roasted.. not bad, but I roast mine more. Gravy was taste and the mint-jelly was ... well... mint jelly... I prefer mint-sauce, but it wasn't bad at all. The price was just great value for money - I think it was 8.95 for the carvery - quite a deal really. Would I go back? Yes, without a doubt I would... would I order the lamb again? You bet - I love roast lamb.... next time I ask for another slice though... ;)

Yelp
Great all rounder with friendly and helpful staff. I really recommend booking, especially for Sunday carvery as it can get very busy. Recently we went there to try the breakfast and it was very nice, with lots of variety and comes with a responable price tag.

Yelp
This is my uncles favourite place to go for a Sunday roast.. the food tastes ok, the veg has a little crunch too it but there's no mash.. and the gravy is always gluten free.. The staff are friendly and the deserts taste nice.. especially the sticky toffee pudding with custard.. No doubt I'll be going again the next time I visit my family.. but mainly cause this is the only place they go..

Yelp
Average drink selection; food which borders on pricey, but doesn't deliver on taste or portion size! Also, the staff are generally rude: which makes this pub 'one to avoid!'

Yelp
First time at The Pheasant since the refurbishment. It's now focusing on the carvery side of things and although there are quite a few alternative choices on the menu, most people seemed to go for the carvery. There was a good choice of vegetables, and although a couple of us were veggies, we decided to have the carvery without the meat. Unfortunately nobody seemed to expect that veggies also like a 'Sunday roast' so to speak and there was no replacement for the meat however the stuffing was veggie and there was veggie gravy! Could do with putting a bit of thought into that and have a nut roast or similar (please don't do what a lot of places do and offer something like a quiche, that doesn't go with a roast dinner!)The veg was good and there were 3 types of potato and leeks in cheese sauce, yum. The yorkshires were a bit strange, very spongy, but tasted ok. Although we ate early in the evening there was not the full choice of meats available for the meat eaters, but what there was was good, apparently. The carvery was really good value for money. The starters were ok, nothing out of the ordinary. We didn't have any desserts but the coffee was nice. If there was a criticism it was that there weren't enough staff. This was a Friday night and the place was packed, but it took some time to get our orders taken and get drinks. This wasn't helped by a very slow barman who took an age to pour the drinks and then the servers had to find time to go back and get them from the bar. It would have made more sense for the barman to bring them over. All in all a nice pub, good value for money and good food, nothing spectacular on the menu but if your looking for a good old fashioned roast, this is the place.
