We stayed at The Phoenicia Malta as part of a short city escape, and there were certainly some highlights, but also a few disappointments that are worth sharing.||First, the location is fantastic – just a short 3-minute walk into the main town, which makes exploring Valletta really easy. Breakfast was another strong point: good quality food, nice service, and the option to sit inside or out on the terrace, which is a lovely place to spend time – you could happily sit there for hours just relaxing.||However, the pool area was a letdown. While it’s a bonus to have a pool in a city hotel, it was only waist-deep and in need of investment. A number of sunbeds were damaged, and staff weren’t particularly attentive – we noticed leftover food plates left around which took away from what could have been a great space. The views are there, but the experience didn’t live up to it.||We also dined at the hotel’s steak restaurant one evening. It was okay, but with so many restaurants in the town nearby, I’d probably recommend venturing out – you’ll likely find better options for the price.||The biggest issue for us was the room. We were initially given what I believe was a Classic Double Room. Honestly, it felt more like a cell – the only window was extremely high up, with no natural light or proper view. It was quite shocking to see a room like that being sold in a 5-star hotel. We asked to move and were offered a better room at an additional cost, which we paid – but it left a sour taste. I’d strongly advise checking which room type you’re booking to avoid this experience.||Overall, the trip was fine – not terrible, but not great for the price either. The hotel didn’t have that warm, welcoming feel you’d expect from a top-tier property. It’s a grand building with potential, but for us it felt a bit impersonal.||Would I stay again? Possibly, but only if I could guarantee a better room and if the pool area was refurbished.
