It was my first time back there in 30 years. I remember a different layout but it was a very cozy! I truly enjoyed Naomi and the Mixology Band! They are always terrific and everyone was dancing in their seats and on the floor!!!

It was a great time. This place is a hometown favorite. Definitely give it a try. The food & entertainment was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Reminds me of bars on French street in New Orleans. But don’t mention New Orleans jazz to the bouncer he will be offended. A great place for live music and drinks. If you’re black and not from KC like me this is a safe space. $5 cover at the door cash preferred there are fees if you use card fyi

Stopped by on a Saturday night. Place is packed wall to wall, so get there early. Servers are overwhelmed and can't get around easily, so drinks are a challenge. Not a place for food, skip the menu. This is a standing room only, listen to music and vibe place.

This is a fun little jazz bar in Kansas City. Talia and her boyfriends were so good! The $6 happy hour cocktails and wine were great and the spin dip and chips were really tasty. Dinner special was fish and chips, it was just ok. We had a great time!

The spinach dip, loaded fries, and crab cakes were great and the portions worked for sharing with a group of 4. The staff deliver good service even when the club is packed. I thought it would take a long time to get our food and drinks but it was quite fast so they deserve 5-stars for that. The music was great too. Definitely recommend visiting this place.

Came in for a drink, ordered three drinks which came to $20.00, gave the bar tender 2 twenty dollar bills since I had no change. She tried to keep $20.00 as a tip. She did return change so I could tip $5.00. Half way through our drink we were asked to stop TALKING so someone could read some poetry. Left our drinks 1/2 full and left! Never been to a bar that doesn’t allow talking, stick with that model, that js why there were probably only 20 people there!! Won’t be back.

Went and had brunch on a Sunday. Loved the place! The food was delicious, drinks were good, and the love entertainment was great! Will definitely be going back there!

Great place for local, Happy Hour entertainment, drinks and food. KC has many gems and this one more than filled our setting when guests were visiting from California.

Yet again, I'm going to be grumpy about a local favorite. I went for the much ballyhooed jazz brunch and everything about it was underwhelming. There is almost nothing on the menu that is gluten-free (which I knew in advance; I can't even get breakfast potatoes because, like so many restaurants these days, they are deep fried rather than cooked on the grill). So i got eggs and sausage a la carte. Fine, but they were brought out each on their own small plate, like I had added them to an entree - who wants to deal with that? I was clearly planning on eating them together as my meal, since I couldn't order a proper entree. Anyway, things went downhill from there. I had to ask for more coffee. I had to search out the waitress to get my bill after lingering for some time. Even the music was just okay - hardly the level I have come to expect in KC, where most venues have exceeded my expectations. With so many delightful options in KC, I wouldn't rush back here.

Wouldn't go again. Drinks were ok at best, food just wasn't good, and the entertainment was... interesting lol. Maybe this was an off night, but would recommend any of the other bars/music places in the area instead. One of the servers was also very short with certain members of our party.

We came here after going to a comedy show. Hubs wanted to hear live music. A coworker told him about The Phoenix so we came. When we got there, there was a cover charge which we expected. The place was packed! The music was good. We had a few drinks (don't ask me what they were). It was a nice vibe for sure. As parents, we don't get out often as a couple so this was nice. If you're looking for a nice vibe, this is your place! You can park on the street or in the lot across the street (weekends).

This is by far one of the best music venues in KC! Their food is excellent, but the music is always a treat! It's been a staple in KC for a long time and never disappoints. Chloe McFadden was playing (Lonnie's very talented daughter) and she was just amazing! If you are lucky enough to see her when Lonnie pops in to play trumpet with her and tap dance on the bar, you are in for a real treat! The Sunday brunch show is great and the food is amazing. One of my favorite places! Check it out!

TL;DR: If you love live music, especially 80s/90s and jazz, come by the Phoenix. Would highly recommend for fans of Green Lady looking for some place to grab a bite earlier in the day. The drinks are decent, the prices are reasonable, the portions are good, and the atmosphere makes up for everything else. The Phoenix is a bit off the beaten path and less well-known than Green Lady and Black Dolphin, but it has a strong history in Kansas City (it served illegal alcohol during the Prohibition) and still has a long list of regulars. This bar feels like a neighborhood joint but is very welcoming to newcomers. DRINKS I tend to get their cocktails--if you're looking for a lighter cocktail like I am, I'd recommend the Ride the Wave and Am I the Asshole. Ride the Wave tastes mostly like ginger beer, and Am I the Asshole is a lot of vanilla with notes of lemon and blueberry. They also have a solid pick of anything else you may be looking for. FOOD This is your standard bar fare. I've heard better things about the Phoenix's brunch, but don't come expecting anything outstanding. I would recommend the spin(ach) dip and get it with a side of fries. The fries aren't listed as their own side on the menu, but just ask the staff and they're super accommodating. MUSIC My friends and I came earlier in the evening and got to see Talya and her Boyfriends, who put on an amazing show. We loved the time here and will definitely be back!

The Jazz Brunch on Sunday 10:00 -2:00 at The Phoenix was outstanding. The menu had enough variation to be interesting. The drink menu intriguing. The Cinnamon rolls were to top off everything else. The waitress I had was very attentive and took care of my every request. All this and Jazz too

Love the food, the service (#Peachesisawesome), and the music. Must visit. Will frequent.

Great place for live music on a Wednesday. Really nice bar with their regulars that support local talent a lot with good drinks and beers. Pros: lovely little bar with a lot of character with great music, the server was really nice, good beer, and I got the burger special which was good. The patty was not greasy at all, and fries were nice and crispy with chipotle ranch. Good selection of beers as well. Cons: there was only one server which got overwhelming for her and made the service slow. Overall, I will highly recommend this place for a good relaxed fun vibe where you go and have a blast and enjoy your night.

Not your average eatery! The quality of the food certainly surpassed my expectations. The live jazz and classics was a definite plus. Generally speaking, I would have lowered my expectations for "bar food" but was pleasantly surprised when the work of art was served. The servers made us feel welcome and ensured that we received the attention we deserved. For the full experience recommend scheduling a visit during a weekend~enjoy!

Location: Downtown Kansas city MO Ambiance: bar restaurante, Jazz vibe. They offer live music several times a week. We went for brunch on a Sunday with live music Food: Amazing. I was expecting more bar quality food, I was surprised when they brought to our table this high-quality, well executed dishes. I highly recommend the skillet or the crab cake. Service: The best I've ever had in Kansas City. When I got there with my family, they were having a farewell celebration for the bartender that was leaving to California. One gentleman from the restaurant gave my mom a beautiful flower arrangement The server was always smiling and helpful. They brought us cake from the farewell event. The musicians were also smiling all the time and hi 5 us on our way to the exit. Yelp factor: This is the place to go if you are looking to experience Kansas City vibe, Food and music. I can't wait to go back there

You have to come on Thursday nights to hear Chloe McFadden perform. She was such a delight that we were sad when we had to leave after 2 hours for our dinner reservations. Our beers were cold, and the servers were kind. Chloe was the star!

Amazing experience what a fun place and amazing music! The crab cake could have been better (if it had more crab in it) but everything else was good. The food was ok but everything else was so fun - the ambiance, the music, the service and people. So memorable.

A fun Atmosphere with an amazing brunch. The brunch is offered from 10 to 2 as well as an all you can drink bloody Mary option. Great service and wonderful food. A fun place to brunch on the weekend with friends. Live music in jazzy nights sound really fun so we will have to come back for that.

This Sunday brunch live music place is such a treat. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the singers were top notch. The food was great to boot. I started off with a bloody mary and it was exceptional. My husband had the breakfast burrito and I had the Country Fried Steak breakfast. The wait staff was not only attentive, but talented as one of the bar maids sang. Looking forward to another visit!

The service was terrible; wait staff spent more time talking amongst themselves than checking on tables; had to go to the bar twice to order more drinks and get our tab. I was so disappointed.

Everything was good. Good service. Got to choose our table. No wait even at noon on a Saturday. Live jazz brunch 10-2 on Sat and sun. The ultimate iced latte has rumchata, skyy cold brew, and espresso which was tasty. My sister had the chicken n walked waffles which was very good. The chicken had a cajun seasoning that I didn't expect. It was a very New Orleans vibe. My other sis got the downtown dip also very good. I got the crab Benny but preferred their food over mine. A bit much seafood taste for me. Overall good.

The choices are limited but excellent. The service is very happy and makes you feel wanted. Lots of smiles. The music is fun! The whole ambiance is one of fun.

I visited the Phoenix today for Sunday Brunch. I ordered a breakfast burrito ($10.5), and a mimosa ($8). My friend ordered the Downtown Dip ($12.5), which came with fries. Would I have chopped up the veggies a bit more and tweaked the burrito? Yup. Added even a handful of cheap chips or a veggie as a side? You betcha! Yet, flavor and portion-size were very-good. Service was prompt, efficient, and legit friendly. A special treat in this historic space is the local live music. Compared to local brunch-stops nearby, the Phoenix offers a lively atmosphere, good food and service.

I am not big on clubs but I love this place. This is basically a Jazz club that serves several food items and of course drinks!! My favorite is Friday evening 4:30 to 8:30 with a soloist named Langston Lee. I LOVE his voice! I always order the chicken fried chicken and it never disappoints. If I had the time I would be there every Friday to start my weekend off right and let my hair down. Only downside is that it is quite an intimate spot (meaning small) Oh and happy hour is from 4-6 with food and drink specials.

It's nothing special but it's really good for what it is. Started with the spinach dip and it was delicious, perfect dip to chip ratio, moved to the burger which wasn't fancy but for a bar it was really good. I also recommend the fries (10/10 would devour again). The server we had was so sweet and so accommodating I wish I grabbed her name so I could shout her out. The vibe was just what we needed for a Saturday evening the live music was good but loud. I had to sit in the back and we still couldn't really hear each other or the server talk. The one thing I would say I was disappointed In was the cocktail my friend and I both had a bionic which seemed to be a take on the French 75 and it was just OK. Also we had one of their special shots and I honestly wanted to spit it out but Im not a shots girlie so I think that's me and not the Phoenix. Overall a great time would go again for the vibe and spinach dip!

This gets a four star for the entertainment value. The live band here was great. We were even treated to some tap dancing on the bar. The food is okay. I got the fish and chips, which comes in a good size portion. Instead of a flaky/crispy exterior, the fish was encased in a hardened shell. It was different. We saw a lot of steaks coming out so I'm going to guess that's a specialty there and would give that a try next time around. Parking around here is limited and crazy hard to find. It's a popular spot, barely an open table in the house. But, stop in for the drinks and music, you won't be disappointed!

Attended on a Friday evening for the live music. Food came in a big portion. I order the chicken tenders with fries and a few drinks. We sat at the bar, the tables were already full and the bar staff gave us exceptional service the entire time.

I've ate at The Phoenix many times but this was my first time ordering the crab cakes with chipotle aioli. When I placed the order and the crab cakes were described as "Hockey Pucks" I should have taken heed and ordered my usual. The crab cakes had the consistency and feel of potato wedges. There was more bread filing throughout the crab cake than there was crab. I've been to a few different Sea food restaurants and I believe the dish that this most resembles would be the hush puppies from Long John Silvers. I would have appreciated real crab meat versus the imitation meat lost within the thick dry breading. The side of green beans came cold and without any seasoning. The green beans being cooked with little love prompted me to rush them into the kitchen and pump some life into them. I added some seasoning and tossed them in the air fryer to bring them back. Overall, I would say that this was one of my least favorable food moments but The Phoenix is a restaurant that provides a great in person vibe with a wide drink selection. If you're hungry on a late night you'd probably just want to steer clear of ordering the Crab Cakes..unless you're a hockey fan.

Sunday brunch never disappoints and to have Talya as the entertainment tops the cake!

I've been here a few times, wanting to like this place, but just can't. The ambience is great! It's super cozy, chill. The live music is great. But, the bar....its subpar. Sorry guys. Just wasted $20 on a Rob Roy that tasted like skunk piss. Every time I've been, the drinks have been mediocre at best. I'd suggest listening to the live music and sticking with water.

Great music, classic blues divey atmosphere, poor service. Very slow. We sat for about 15 minutes before being acknowledged. Drinks came out slowly and the server had no personality. Very perfunctory. $5 cover on Friday and Saturday nights, which isn't an issue if you're planning on staying a bit, but there are many other KC live music bars that don't charge covers. The rating would be higher if it were only about the music, as we really enjoyed the show, but that varies by artist. The place itself was lackluster.

Do yourself a favor and start your day with jazz brunch @ The Phoenix. Nothing can go wrong after that. Arriving around 10:30am on a Saturday, there were surprisingly only a few tables occupied (and a few more - with the best views of the band - reserved). Otherwise, we could pick wherever suited us and seat ourselves. The Phoenix vibe is laid-back and hospitable. The band is tucked in the front and sounded great! The music was at just the right level where you could decide whether to converse with your dining partners or not, both would feel comfortable. Brunch menu boasts many tempting options (including $12 bottomless mimosas!!!). We decided to split the crab cakes florentine and the chicken & waffles. The crab cakes florentine were tasty & different - you can definitely taste the crab and even see chunks in the patty! It's topped with spinach, bacon, and a poached egg with home fries on the side. I enjoyed the flavor, but my boyfriend found it too fishy. So be forewarned that if you don't feel like starting your day with seafood, it may not be the dish for you. But he still enjoyed the potatoes - especially with a splash of the Cholula hot sauce on the table. CHICKEN & WAFFLES WITH BBQ MAPLE SYRUP. That's all I have to say. This dish is all of the sweet, savory & homey that you want in a brunch. And it's BIG with 2 pieces of chicken, so perfect for splitting. You just need this in your life. This meal paired with the melodies of morning brunch prepared us for a pretty perfect day. We arose from the flames of The Phoenix feeling renewed and ready to take on Kansas City.

Saturday brunch band was excellent. Food was average. A bit loud, hard to have a conversation. But, as always this is a Kansas City staple not to be missed! A easy jaunt to the city market for Saturday browsing.

Great spot for live music and drinks. This isn't a restaurant but has food offerings. The real attraction here is the fabulous staff and entertainment!

I went to enjoy the Chiefs game, and for Brunch. Brunch was very good. I had Chicken fried chicken with sausage gravy, two eggs, potatoes and toast. My daughter had the chicken and waffles. The chicken was seasoned good and cooked crispy along with everything else. Had a Lemon Drop to drink and it was tasty. I will go back to visit.

Came by for drinks. Fun and cute place. There was a $5 cover when we were getting in. I am not really into jazz, but I enjoyed it the music. The closer you sit to the live band, the louder it is, but we were pretty close and it wasn't killing my ears. There was a 30min or so break maybe in the music when the bands changed. There wasn't any special cocktail/drink menu sadly, but the atmosphere and service was good. Not sure about parking, was on foot.

Come on Fridays to hear my favorite Local artist, Lee Langston! He soothes my soul with his spirit and his "smooth as butter" melodic sounds. He knows how to move the crowd and I just love him Oh , but don't sleep on the chicken fingers they are so darn big and good.

Oh man .. I'm so glad I came by. First time on a Saturday! The music was live, and the mimosas was good! The dish just made everything that much better! Definitely want to come back and try dinner there very soon!

By far one of my favorite places to go to for brunch in Kansas City. Always playing live jazz music and the food is always good.

Visiting from Phoenix AZ. My wife found this place and I'm glad she did. The food was exceptional and the service was above and beyond. I had the French dip which was fantastic. My wife opted for the chicken and waffles which again was fantastic. The live entertainment is above and beyond anything I expected. I love jazz, but can't get enough of it in Phoenix. Give this place a shot if you get a chance. You won't be disappointed.

Got a carry out order from The Phoenix for lunch one day and thoroughly enjoyed every bite I had! This place does not skimp out on anything! If you take a look at the pictures, you can see our boxes filled with burgers and fries, and they were so tasty! I recommend others to go here for lunch if they've never tried this place before.

The live music is amazing and the food/drinks are good but I was extremely disappointed in the level of service we received this evening. we had to flag down our waitress in order to be taken care of throughout the evening. Such a shame.

First Friday late lunch spot. We had the pork tenderloin sandwich, Turkey wrap and Reuben with house chips. All three were delicious. I enjoyed a Kettle One cucumber and mint cocktail. It was very refreshing on a hot summer day. Inside offers seating at the bar, cocktail tables or regular tables. Exposed brick and beams in this 100 year old brownstone.

My girlfriend and I love going and trying local spots and once again we found a new gem for brunch. The Phoenix has an excellent brunch menu, love their chicken and waffles as well as their $15 pitchers of mimosas (the equivalent of 5-6 glasses), however, what really set them apart is the live music. We were able to drink, eat, watch the game on the corner, while enjoying some live music. All for a great price. I highly recommend this place and we will both be coming back again soon!

This place is wonderful relaxing took mom here for her birthday celebration the whole family had a great experience we danced we drank and my mom and I ate delicious food it was worth her 75th birthday the band and customers sang happy Birthday to my mom " I feel like a celebrity " was what my mom said as we were departing she tip the band generously

This is the spot my first time coming and it was absolutely amazing this place sits right on the corner and it's a parking lot right across, the vibe was relax it was a live band playing from 10-2pm I also ordered the chicken and waffle and the chicken taste delicious it was seasoned to perfection and the waffle was nice and fluffy and the Syrup was the perfect hit the waitress said it was made with bbq flavor they also have a live band at night from 4:30-8pm that I will also come back to enjoy

First time here on Saturday night to listen to Moments Notice. Awesome band and venue. We arrived early and paid our $5 cover charge. Was able to get a table close to the stage. That being said, every seat is good so you will have to problem seeing and/or hearing the band anywhere you sit. We ordered from both the Happy Hour menu (4-6pm) and the normal dinner menu. Food was delicious and the portions were large. Some highlights were the giant burger and fries (about $11), the loaded fries from the happy hour menu ($5) and the crab cakes ($10). The fries were some of the beat I've ever had. I don't know exactly what they do to make them fry up the way they do but they are nice and crispy and retain the crisp even when it takes a while to eat them. The pour sizes of the drinks were generous too. I can't wait to go back and try the other menu options. If you haven't been to listen to Moments Notice you are missing out. They are truly a groups of amazing musicians.
