****Update*** Christopher with leadership at the Betsy has reached out to rectify the issues we had while staying at the hotel.
He was very professional and made me feel like a valued customer, which is what I was hoping for during our stay. He assured me that our next visit, if we choose to patronize will be exceptional, and I receive that.
This is a completely honest review.
Let's start with making my reservations. I initially phoned the hotel to make a reservation for 5 nights. The reservationist confirmed my 5 nights took all my information and my credit card, but towards the end stated the wrong dates, only 4 nights for what I was quoted . she explained it would be $300 more. I asked her if there was anything that she could do since it was her mistake. She said, sorry no. I called back and spoke to a woman named Gabby. She apologized for the mistake and gave me five nights for the amount I was quoted initially. So I was very happy with that. Gabby was very nice and professional.
Arriving to the hotel, we were greeted warmly and given instructions on how to navigate to our room. It is truly like a maze, you have to go up one elevator To the third floor cross over into another building and then come back down another elevator to get to the second floor, where we were staying. A little annoying, but not a super huge issue for us. (you have to repeat this to get to the pool gym and library) . Upon entering our room, it smelled like dog urine. We let Housekeeping know (who happened to be in the hallway), We also let the front desk know, and they told us they would have housekeeping attempt to get rid of the smell. Upon returning to our room, the room smelled like oranges and citrus with a faint hint of dog urine. But after a while, the dog urine smell returned. I didn't want to be a complainer so I just let it go.
Our room itself was small and located right next to house keeping's closet. So needless to say we were woken up every morning with doors opening and closing and vacuums being tossed around. (if they offer you room 251 politely decline).
One night my husband and I decided to sit on the front patio to just relax. Staff quickly came out and told us they weren't severing outside because it might rain, and that we needed to come inside. My husband explained we were just relaxing and didn't need service. Literally the same staff member offered service to a couple right next to us, not pushing them to leave from the front of the hotel. This experience gave me a very icky feeling, I felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome. They treated us as if we were loitering. They very next day hubby and I decided we would try pizza from a world famous pizza spot and eat it on the beach. By the time we Reached the hotel with our pizza. It started to rain so we decided we would sit on the front patio (which was covered) and enjoy our pizza. A staff member comes out and tells us, he thinks it's dumb, but management and the front desk staff says we can't eat outside pizza on the patio. We are welcome to take it to our room. I explained we are guest at the hotel and we're just looking for some cover from the rain. He says, I know but sorry, At this point, I'm starting to think they don't want us in front of their hotel. I'm extremely disappointed, feeling discriminated against and ready to go home. I honestly felt that we were being watched.
Overall the hotel is attractive, has a nice rooftop pool, and great access to the beach that includes Beach chairs, towels and umbrellas. But for me, customer service is everything, and based on this experience, I would not return to the Betsy Hotel. I'm sure they wouldn't care anyways.
