Where To Eat & Drink In St. Louis

"Between the classic comfort food, little patio, and friendly service, eating at The Piccadilly feels a little like eating in someone’s house, minus having to do any dishes afterward. This neighborhood spot in Ellendale serves classics like meatloaf, ribs, and fried chicken, and has been owned by the same family for more than three generations. It might not be the first restaurant you think of in St. Louis, but when you want to eat somewhere that feels a little like home - minus your family asking you to explain Twitter - The Picadilly is the answer." - jen maylack

Google
Allow me to introduce you to this charming restaurant, housed in a beautifully restored historic building. Having had the pleasure of dining here on multiple occasions, I can confidently attest that the chicken pot pie is, by far, my absolute favorite. The flaky crust boasts a delightfully buttery softness, complemented by crisp edges. The generous chunks of white meat, paired with an assortment of fresh vegetables, are truly exceptional. The Beef pot pie, in its own right, is unparalleled. This evening, I finally had the opportunity to sample the smoked prime rib, which proved to be utterly satisfying, paired with a glass of rich Cabernet. Moving on to the made-from-scratch desserts, I opted for the blackberry cobbler. The blackberry cobbler, I must emphasize, was the most exceptional I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. I was greeted by a friendly hostess and my waiter, John, provided attentive service, despite appearing somewhat distracted. Nonetheless, the service was delivered efficiently.

Google
The Piccadilly at Manhattan has been a staple for years. It’s a local neighborhood spot with tasty comfort food. I’ve had pretty much everything on the menu, but my favorite apps are the wings (trashed)(you need to ask) and the smoked tuna spread. For entrees, the fried chicken is my go-to, but I also really enjoy the chicken pot pie, short rib pot pie, and meatloaf. When the rack of ribs is on special, I always order it. Plus, for sandwiches, the ultimate grilled cheese and smoked cuban are 🔥. Sadly, they cut some menu items once the pandemic hit. But their mac & cheese was one of my favorites in town. Hopefully they’ll bring it back sometime . . .

Google
High marks all around for this charming neighborhood place: indoor / outdoor / patio seating, solid menu, good service and crowd-pleasing tastes. The blackberry cobbler a la mode made me faint.

Delicious food. I've tried several items here and all were nice. Sitting is tight. Generally busy at dinner time.

Google
Looking for a local restaurant for lunch or dinner this is the place. Food is delicious and made fresh for every order. They offer specials every day, but their main menu is always fabulous. The staff is very friendly and personal to each customer. My favorite is their Mayfair dressing, it's the best I ever had and it's made fresh daily. Appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and entrees are so delicious. Saturdays they offer a prime Rib special which is fantastic. It's a locally-owned business I love to support, but the staff and atmosphere are another reason to go and visit with friends for dinner or lunch. I've never had a bad meal at this place and good is always hot too. If you like have a drink while you're at it. Sit inside or outside depending on your preference. Overall you can't go wrong with a fabulous locally-owned place like this, it's a hidden treasure for sure.

Google
Group of 4 each ordered something different. Whitefish sandwich, meatloaf, pot pie and fried chicken. I ordered the chicken and it was very good. Tasted the pot pie, which was nice, and I tasted the meatloaf which I did not care for. It was too dense, like it was run through a blender with a sweet tomato base. The 3 of us that tasted it agreed it wasn't as good as mama would make. We also had bread pudding ala mode. The ice cream was good, but I've had better bread pudding. Would try cobbler next time. The fried whitefish was a generous portion, and looked delicious.

Google
Wonderful neighborhood place that has friendly staff and very welcoming. Food was delicious. Truly enjoyed. We will be returning. There is off street parking on the side of the building.

Google
Small eatery in the Maplewood area. Great decor, outdoor seating, service and most importantly food!

Yelp
The food is outstanding! The chicken pot pie is close to being the best I've ever had, I loved everything about it, especially the buttery, flaky crust. The meatloaf tastes like it's homemade. And the fried chicken was fried and seasoned perfectly. I ordered my food to go, I could only imagine how it would've been sitting in to eat.

Yelp
Adorable spot within walking distance of my new house. Staff walked that line between attentive and hovering so well. Menu is brief but the dishes are so well executed. Everyone else drinks were great. I chose a key lime pie that wasn't as lime-y as I was hoping. Admittedly, I love tart things more than average. I did not pick up the check. They have inside or outside seating and take reservations. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
One of my favorite places to take the special people in my life. It feels like eating in someone's home, and is about the same size. Reservations are highly recommended. The fried chicken is some of the best I've had. My husband ordered the seafood pot pie and that was a bit underwhelming, but I go for the specials and fried chicken. Great bar selection with special martinis and delicious sangria.

Yelp
We checked this place out Saturday night around 6:30. Neither of us had been in years. We sat outside. It's nice and cozy inside and the patio is very lovely, and updated since my last visit. We both got half fried chicken dinner and salad. The food was good aside from the salad being soaked in dressing, even after asking twice for it to be on the side. Our server was Hope. She wasn't friendly. It was like we had burdened her by coming in for dinner. She was avoiding her outside tables the whole time we were there. When we first sat down, we overheard other diners complaining about not getting their check or waiting on boxes so I asked her pretty early on if we could get our check in a few boxes so that we wouldn't be waiting long once we were finished. She dropped boxes, but not the check so I had to ask again. Another table was asking for water and silverware when their salads were delivered by the older woman who was doing everything. Hope never came back to get our card. We finally asked the lady doing everything if she could grab her. Another five minutes later she sauntered out and tossed it back on the table. Not a thanks for coming, have a good night, nothing. I want to like this place, but I probably won't rush back soon.

Yelp
This is a fun little restaurant tucked into a quiet neighborhood in Maplewood. My favorites include the fried chicken, chicken pot pie and the meatloaf. It's especially nice when the weather allows for eating outside.

Heather T.

Yelp
One of our favs for homestyle food cooked perfectly! Great fried chicken and love the pot pies! Same room for dessert!
google avatar

Yelp
The chicken pot pie was phenomenal, especially the crust. Good service. Relaxed atmosphere. Delightful neighborhood restaurant hidden among cute Maplewood homes.

Yelp
Very cute and cozy atmosphere. It seems most everything is made in house and it was all delicious! Personally I don't like hot sauce but my partner said the homemade hot sauce was amazing. Also very friendly staff and good service. Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
Hands-down, some of the best fried chicken I've had in a very long time at a eating establishment. I also had the biggest critic in the world with me my mama if she says something is good trust me it is good. I will definitely be back. I'm new to the area and found the aesthetics customer service and the amazing memorabilia and history that is attached to the decor. Makes this place a hidden gem. One other small thing to note, I like when places, especially living in a bigger city before moving here where there was a lot of hustle and bustle pretty much everyone that came in there outside of us was known by the staff and the people that worked there. Another great thing to love. I could also see this being a really cute date night spot or a quick place to even grab a drink if you're not interested in dinner. I almost forgot and can't believe that I did. The onion rings were to die for.

Yelp
The Piccadilly at Manhattan is my go-to for fried chicken and is one of St. Louis' oldest continuously operated family restaurants. Also it is a small and cozy restaurant with great with great customer service that has what I consider to be the best and freshest fried chicken that would rival my Grandma's iron skillet southern fried chicken and that is to standing! I love getting the Mayfair salad as well with the very tasty Mayfair dressing. One thing I've wanted to he chicken pot pie with the big pastry crust but every time I return I'm craving fried chicken so keep getting this plate instead but oh well, maybe one day soon.
google avatar

Terry B.

Yelp
We always love the Piccadilly. Their fish, the prime rib on Saturdays, and barbecue on Wednesdays are all favorites of ours. The only thing I don't get is any of the pot pies...too many lima beans!
google avatar

Kelly A.

Yelp
We stopped in here after reading great reviews. It is the best chicken pot pie I have ever had. The service was amazing too. We even got one to go for my Mom. I live out of town. Each time I visit family in St Louis I will be going here.

Gloria B.

Yelp
We sat on the bright heated patio. We ordered a chicken pot pie and the fried-chicken dinner. The food was good and, also, hot. Service was very slow, but we were okay with that. I would, certainly, return.

Yelp
I love this place! The food, the service, the ambiance is 5 star! I've gone twice so far and each time was HEAVEN!! I didn't take picture the first time, but trust me, the meat falls off the rib bones! My husband had the chicken pot pie and bought a frozen one to take home for another time! The second time, I had the New England clam chowder and it was soooo good, thick and creamy and loaded with clams, potatoes, corn. YUM!! My main course was the fried fish, but you can eat this flaky delight without teeth, it melts in your mouth!! Go, enjoy the place in the middle of the neighborhood and enjoy!! Gotta go wipe my mouth, cause I'm drooling! ;)

Yelp
Spacious restaurant offering ample seating options both indoors as well as outdoor patio. We obviously went during a mad rush and waited nearly half hour for a table for 2. Because there are so many seats/tables, waiting inside on a cold winter afternoon was SUPER TIGHT. Soup of the day which was vegetable was good along with a small salad. Didn't make up for the long wait but was a decent lunch with pleasant service in a nice local spot. Would love to try a pot pie but vegetable was not offered. Hopefully they'll consider adding it in the near future. ~Christy

Yelp
Very nice place the pot pie is unbelievable. I think it's nice place for a lunch date and a place. That's definitely an upgrade from fast food. I would say give them a try. I think it'll be happy.

Yelp
Love this place! Delicious food -- pot roast special, chicken pot pie & meatloaf! Apple Crisp for dessert was scrumptious! Server was great, too!

Yelp
Hubby saw the reviews and menu in here & was intrigued. American cuisine, known for their pot pies. We started with a side of Parmesan ranch fries, nice & crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Those fries were packed with so much flavor. I got the half a chicken meal, comes with mashed potatoes & green beans. The chicken was juicy & flavorful, perfect crispy skin. I could only eat 2 pieces, took the breast & leg home for later. Mashed potatoes were fluffy & they pool gravy in the middle, nice light brown gravy. The green beans were seasoned very well. Hubby got the short rib pot pie. The crust was plentiful & flaky. The inside of this pot pie was so yummy. I cannot even put it into words, just so many layers of flavor. Took some of that home too. We will be back to try more of the menu options.

Yelp
I really liked the hometown neighborhood feel of The Piccadilly. Limited menu of only the good stuff. The drinks were top notch and the service was great. Local Nostalgic decor made The Piccadilly a special place. Great dinner and night out.

Yelp
One tip: GET THE BEEF POT PIE! Absolutely delicious food at this quaint spot in Maplewood. The pot pie is filled with pot roast, short ribs, carrot, green beans, mashed potatoes, and a beef gravy roux filling. It's hands down the best pot pie I've ever had. Everyone else gave glowing reviews of their food as well! The service is wonderful with super friendly and genuine staff who makes the entire experience enjoyable. Definitely recommend slipping in here for great, gut filling food!

Yelp
Best Fried Chicken in town!!! Everything is good, consistantly! Family owned! Get there early to get a Seat!

Yelp
For the second year in a row, on the night we decided to go get our Christmas tree at Ted Drews - we chose to have dinner at Piccadilly at Manhattan. And for the second year in a row we were well pleased. The ambience could be better. It is a bit too "white lit" like the lighting is just not warm, if they would switch to warmer light bulbs it would make a monumental difference, but all in all it is a cute place to have dinner. It is tight seating as there is just not a ton of space. I love the relatively small menu. I recommend getting reservations if possible. But we walked-in just as we did last year and were seated in about 10-15 minutes. My wife and I had the chicken pot pie, my dad had the fried chicken and my adult daughter had the cheeseburger. Everything was solid. Great portions, and great food. We also ordered the Onion Rings as an appetizer. Onions rings were great! Crispy, not too thick. They could add some sort of "Piccadilly Onion Rings sauce" and it would be a bit more "special" feeling... as it was it was just great onion rings on a plate. But again... they were really great! Cheeseburger - moist delicious - ample sized. Solid choice - but nothing super special about it. Fried Chicken - delicious crunchy outside - moist and flavorful inside. Pot Pie (Chicken) - I mean what more can be said. It was the best Chicken Pot pie I have ever had. The flakey crust is fantastic all by itself, but the inside is a wonderful cacophony of comfort-food flavor that makes you feel like a kid on a snow-day. Our server was upbeat, friendly, attentive, and quick. However I noticed a couple of other team members who put off a vibe that they were being forced to be there and that it was a colossal pain in that patootie. I recommend Piccadilly on Manhattan and attest that we will certainly be back!

Yelp
Nice little restaurant in a residential area. We sat in the outside seating' and it's comfortable. Waitress is friendly. Pot pies had great crispy crust.
google avatar

Michele D.

Yelp
Food was very good. Service was superb. Place was nice, clean, comfortable. Hostess was clearly having a bad day, week, or month. She said we could sit at a table, pointed at it, then said but you will have to move in an hour. I said no thanks we like to take our time, 430pm. She said then you can sit outside, I said no thanks it's above 90*. Then she snapped just wait then. And walked away.
google avatar

Jeannie Y.

Yelp
Maybe the best fried chicken restaurant in town. Excellent service and fresh food; not only was the fried chicken good, but everything we ordered was just amazing. It's in a residential area, so you would find the workers very friendly.

Maryanne M.

Yelp
Food is always excellent. Plating is picture perfect. Have never had a subpar meal. We especially enjoy their fried chicken, pot pies and entree salads. Friendly and attentive servers. Always clean. only complaints are it is sometimes difficult to get a table and parking can be a challenge.
google avatar

Susan D.

Yelp
Never disappointed with the food at Piccadilly. Delicious, fresh and tastes home cooked. Awesome attentive service from John today. I love there Mayfair dressing and had a salad with home style tomato soup. My friend thoroughly enjoyed the fried chicken entree, and took home enough for a second meal. The star of the show was the strawberry rhubarb cobbler served warm and a la mode!!! Perfect ending to a perfect meal.

Yelp
Such a cute little place. I have been wanting to try this restaurant for over a year. Tried to make a reservation online and could only make a reservation for parties of 6 or more. We arrived without a reservation at 5:00pm and it was already packed. We were told they do take reservations. Next time we will definitely call to make one. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a cocktail while we waited for a table. Only waited about 19 minutes. Service was very friendly. Food was fantastic. I had the short rib pot pie. Highly recommend. So delicious. Flaky crust and amazing flavor. Next time I will try the chicken pot pie. My husband had the fried chicken. That was good too. They had a few specials. Most tables seemed to be ordering the pot pies and fried chicken. We will definitely be back. Loved that you can get the pot pies frozen to take home too.

Kyle K.

Yelp
Had the chicken pot pie. The dough was perfect, but it was overly creamy and heavy, and salty. The only vegetables in were lima beans and a lot of canned corn. The soup of the day was clam chowder. It was not like a normal clam chowder and the flavor was not very good and the clams were very tough and unchewable. And there was a lot of canned corn in the clam chowder. Are they trying to combine clam chowder and corn chowder?? We took a couple of bites of the soup and told the server that we did not care for it, but she still charged us for it.
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
We had the fried chicken and it didn't disappoint, hot and fresh to order. The sides were great: green beans, cole slaw and mash potatoes, no complaints. Built out of an old home, it had a low key comfortable vibe. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I'm a fried chicken snob and prefer flavor profiles like Gus'.

Gail P.

Yelp
absolutely wonderful-went here for the first time with a friend for lunch-I got the Cuban sandwich-tastiest sandwich ever-the meat was tender with crispy edges & great sauce. Fries were crispy & delicious. We both tried to save room for desert-got the blackberry cobbler with ice cream-very tasty. We will definitely be back. Beautiful place-with nice touches everywhere-waitress was very nice & answered all our questions-we learned quite a bit about the history of this place. I would give them a 10 if the star rating went that high. Nice outdoor seating available-peaceful-no loud music-relaxing & great food-what more could you want. Unusual attention to detail which is hard to find these days. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
Well this was a wonderful surprise! I couldn't believe I had never heard of the place with as much as I'm constantly researching restaurants. It is so lovely and quaint hidden in the middle of a residential neighborhood. There's plenty of street parking and a small lot behind. There's seating inside and out but the patio areas are not to be skipped. The food was all outstanding and left you feeling fed yet comforted. I had the roast and it was delicious. Everyone loved their meals. This is a must do for a unique dining experience in terms of location and style.

Carrie R.

Yelp
Amazing. One of the best restaurants in St. Louis. Outstanding staff. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. The chicken pot pie is a must.
google avatar

Deidra S.

Yelp
keep My hubby had the meatloaf and double mash . The meatloaf was not good - it we didn't quite taste like beef . But the mashed potatoes were good We shared the smoked ribs & baked beans special - PHENOMENAL. I had the fried chicken , mashed potatoes & broccoli. Chicken was great but needed a smidge more salt. Mashed potatoes and broccoli were good. Overall, we will definitely be returning the next time in STL!

Yelp
Good food. Good service. Nice atmosphere. I love this place. It is the kind of place you feel welcome as soon as you enter.
google avatar

Yelp
Quaint. Fun. Full bar. Limited parking. Pleasant staff. Quick service. Homey. COMFORT FOOD! The next best thing to mom's home cooking! Call about the hours, maybe get a reservation. They always aim to please and cut hours temporarily in the Fall. In February, 2023, they will add evening hours for Friday and Saturday. It's all about the customer. (They just didn't have enough staff for awhile). They'll always take great care of you-be nice back!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this spot while exploring the area earlier this year and so glad I did! Fantastic food and service including the best fish I have EVER HAD!!! I've never been a huge fish person but this may have converted me... my Dad on the other hand, has always been a fish person, and agreed this is the best fish he's ever had as well! The side dishes were also delicious. Super cute interior and nice neighborhood feel. Honestly cannot recommend this place enough!
google avatar

Tim W.

Yelp
I often come here for lunch, and I'm always delighted with their short rib pot pie - it's simply delicious! Fried chicken is also a great option, and their ribs are quite tasty. I had the pleasure of trying the blueberry mousse for dessert once - it was truly amazing! I've also had the prime rib sandwich, which was also quite enjoyable.

Yelp
Meat loaf, pot pies, and chicken. Very pleasant patio. It's comfortable. Inside is a bit tight and therefore loud.

Rocky N.

Yelp
Arrived at 530pm Friday November 3rd to be told it would be a 20-25 minute wait, so ordered a couple drinks and sat outside till table was available. Had pot roast dinner and fried chicken dinner, mashed potatoes and green beans came with both we finished off the meal with a Carmel apple crisp. Mattie was our server and was very accommodating. It was very busy and quite noisy but this atmosphere/ambiance went along with the comfort food served.

Rich F.

Yelp
This was always a solid affordable place to eat but they have fallen, our food was brought out at room temperature at best even the pot pie was Luke we I the middle. So we decide to try the dessert the bread pudding was cold. The strawberry cobbler was not cobbler at all it had a shortcake brea on it It was good but not what I expected. Service let's just say we were forgotten about Nerve was asked for a refill of ice tea Probably our last time

Yelp
Ok all I can say is this place is the best!!!!!!!! I can't find a single thing to complain about from service to food! It is a casual dining establishment, your ok in jeans but if you want to dress up thats just fine too. The service is prompt and willing to accommodate things for you. All the staff wears masks. But seating is is normal. Not spaced out, they offer you a choice of seating. Now for the food! I cannot say enough!!!!!!! Everything and I do mean everything on the menu is extraordinarily yummy! The portions Are very generous, my husband gets more than enough to eat and that's saying something. I believe the fried chicken is the best in the city !

Yelp
Cute little place with a very crowded dinner time! We got there around 6:45 and had a very easy time parking out front and after I parked I saw there was a parking lot next door. They told us it would be about a 30-45 minute wait, but we could grab a drink and wait out back in the heated patio. When we got back there, all of the waiting seats were taken, and we felt uncomfortable standing over people who were eating. We ended up going outside and standing by the first on the outside while we waited for others ahead of us to get tables. The time flew by and it didn't feel like a long time before we were seated at the bar. It's small inside so when others were trying to get drinks at the bar, it was tight and awkward to have them stand behind you. But! Despite all of the waiting, we got drinks quickly and our food came out so fast and was so hot. I got the chicken pot pie and loved that the pie was flaky and came off the dish easily. The filling was mouthwatering and I ate every bite was delicious. I ate all of the filling and did not think I would! So glad I finally got to check this place out and next time I'll probably make a reservation because it does fill up.

Diane D.

Yelp
Great food. I got the short rib pot pie and it was delicious. Quaint atmosphere and good service

Margaret W.

Yelp
Must haves at Piccadilly, chicken pot pie, Roast beef sandwhich, Fried Chicken dinner. I have yet to find something I do not like there. There burgers are top notch. Service is great. There is a reason why they are always busy. Great food, great prices great service.

Laurel K.

Yelp
We did take out. It was not ready at the time they said it would be. Not a big deal. We tried the dinner salads, fried chicken meal, chicken & beef pot pie. The dressings for the salads were very good. The salad was lettuce with a little red onion & the dressing. Not what I expected for the price. The fried chicken was crispy & good. Not much seasoning which would have made it better. The beef pot pie was do much better than the chicken pot pie.

Jean S.

Yelp
Food was delicious and healthy choice. Waited a long time to order and seated. Had no idea we needed to order at the counter and then sit at a table. Coffee was excellent.

Yelp
I love this darling delicious neighborhood spot! Their food is terrific / I've tried it all, ribs, fish Sammie, salads, friend chicken. Service is with a smile and the bar drinks are good. Outdoor patio is fun when you what to be outside. It's family and not fancy. They take great care of you. Frozen to go dinner items up front for lazy dinners later.

Nathan D.

Yelp
Great service and nice people. Smash double cheese burger is my favorite on the menu and over burgers anywhere around. (Mmmm... smashed.) The seasonal salads are always choice as well.
