A Denton standby run by a UNT alum, this Vietnamese truck is famed for banh mi and v-fries. Celebrated by the Dallas Observer and regularly listed by Discover Denton, it anchors the Austin Street lineup most days.

Always great food from The Pickled Carrot. Visited the truck at East Side yesterday and had an overall great experience ordering and the food was ready faster than I expected! The Bánh Mì’s are always solid (the tofu one is fried perfectly, the eggplant is just great, and I tried the pork for the first time yesterday and it had great flavor). The V-Fries are amazing, too. Maybe I’m just a sucker for pickled carrots and daikon. Order the Far East Philly if it’s available, it’s what made me fall in love with this place.

Google
First time here, traveling with friends in Denton. I ordered their Banh Mi and their take on a Philly cheese steak. It was so delicious after a night out! The man at cooking the food and taking our order was very nice! Cute little place within the outdoor bar area. :)

Google
I have to shout out The Pickled Carrot for thier vegan (and allergy) friendly options and their customer service. I ordered a Bahn Mi sandwich with pork, and did not realize it had an aioli until after I took a bite. I have an egg allergy (thankfully not anaphylactic!), so I approached the truck and explained my mistake. I was willing to pay for another sandwich for my own mistake. The guy said it was no problem to make another one, AND they had a vegan garlic aioli as well that I could have. The sandwich was 10/10 perfection. I will definitely come back. Thank you so much for having vegan and allergy friendly options and kind enough to fix a customer’s mistake.

Whomever is reading this, please please go check out the Pickled Carrot! Have been to the pickled carrot only once in person, but the customer service was amazing! It was a memorably kind interaction! The man that I presumed was the owner was helpful when navigating the menu, warm and inviting, along with having a great sense of humor. I have never been disappointed with a dish that I have received (I normally order through delivery apps) and I believe the portions to be very reasonably sized. The V-fries with their tofu is life changing, it’s been the only food item in Denton that I regularly crave! Today I tried the tofu noodle bowl and it was also wonderful. This might’ve been on accident, but I even received a second portion of the noodles which has made my whole day, probably even week! The flavor and freshness of their food is unmatched! They have a unique spin on Vietnamese cuisine while still keeping it simple and traditional. They care about their customers and put quality work into every dish that is made. The pricing is reasonably affordable especially for the quality that you are getting, its my occasional treat as a broke college student! I HIGHLY recommend the pickled carrot!

Google
We only tried the Banh Mi. It was very average. They have all the ingredients to make a good Banh Mi, but something "special" just wasn't there. I would pass it up, there are other good food truck choices in that area.

Google
Got a Pork Banh Mi and Egg Rolls delivered and everything traveled well. The food was still fresh and crispy, it was all delicious. The banh mi could use some more cilantro, but that might be my personal preference. The eggs rolls were really good.

Tina

Google
The pork banh mi is full of all the flavors a person could ask for. For a smaller appetite I would get their noodles. For a splurge get the Viet Fries.

Caleb Czimskey

Google
Usually always have great food from here, but I can’t recommend the noodles. From the portions, to the appearance vs the picture is very lacking. Review the picture on the menu vs what was served.

Yelp
One of a number of food trucks in a space behind a bar - there are a bunch of tables in what would otherwise be a parking lot. But this food is excellent and unique, a fusion where you can get egg rolls, a burger or a kind of Vietnamese poutine. Would definitely eat here again.

Tanya R.

Yelp
Please do a better job at checking your food before it goes out. I found a few peanuts in my noodle bowl And I stated no peanuts I'm allergic so I had to throw my order away.
google avatar

Yelp
Got chicken in the fries this time. Pretty weak serving of protein for what I've seen in other photos. Was still delicious with a superb flavor profile. Would still prefer more protein though.

Yelp
Visited this food truck at a bar in Denton. Initially the line didn't look long and the food sounded like the best option available. Once i got in line i was told they weren't taking orders for 10 minutes, no problem i wasn't in a hurry. After 10 minutes they put up a sign that said be back in 15 minutes. I found a nearby seat, drank beer and waited. After some time passed they finally started taking orders again. I got the egg rolls, tacos, fries, and a cheesesteak. The egg rolls were fried crispy with a nicely well balanced filling but they forgot our other order so i had to go back, 4/5. The tacos were good, soft flour tortillas and pork filling 5/5. The fries were mid, they checked the box but nothing special, 3/5. The cheesesteak had soft bread with a crunchy exterior, and delivered everything i expect from a cheesesteak 5/5. All in all it was a frustrating first impression but the food was exceptional. Given the food truck prices, it felt expensive but i think if they got some more help or made their kitchen more efficient it could be a 5 star experience.

Yelp
Best Food Truck near Eastside. Love just the Bahn Mi with pork. The portion size is a little small.
google avatar

Monique N.

Yelp
After reading the reviews I had to try this place, and WOW, did it live up to the reviews!!! I tried the noodle bowl with chicken and the VF fries with chicken. Let's just say..... both were demolished in minutes. The flavor was amazing, however I do wish the serving size was bigger. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Been looking for an outdoor area to enjoy the fall weather. The Austin Street food truck area is great. However, the food trucks left us underwhelmed. We ordered two bahn mis and fries. The sandwich was a little small and could have used more flavor. The fries were decent but nothing special. We were really hoping that the food would be great but it wasn't on par. I would definitely come back to the area for drinks but nothing more.
google avatar

Nguyễn Q.

Yelp
The service was attentive and accommodating. The ambiance would be nice at night because it located at the food truck area. I believe if you come after a certain time, you would have to be over 21 to enter that area because they serve alcohol inside the area. The food was decent, I got a pork banh mi and a pork noodle bowl. The grilled pork was the star of the show. It was soooo good! I don't like the sauce inside the banh mi because it was too sour. The fish sauce in the noodle bowl was too plain, I would like it to be more flavorful.

Yelp
Great food, love getting their v fries anytime we go to eastside, they are very friendly to my wife's allegies.
google avatar

Donna A.

Yelp
The service was horrible! The guy seems to only care and give good service if you give him a tip. What am I even tipping for? It's not like you're bringing the food out to me or anything. But after he noticed I didn't tip him he handed me the pager and slammed the window in my face. A couple men came after me, he told them it was going to be a long wait for their food because he just got a 15 sandwich order from online, then complained about it because he doesn't get a tip from that order. I'm assuming those guys tipped him because he said thank you, didn't slam the window in their faces and told them that they could sit at the Mexican restaurant next to food trucks to keep warm. When my food was ready, he practically threw it at me and slammed the window again. This was my first time coming to The Pickled Carrot and it will be my last. I only tried this place because Viet Bites is closed on Mondays and I wanted a Banh Mi.

Yelp
Don't sleep on the v fries! The Pickled Carrot is reliably perfect and delicious. You can't go wrong.

Eric J.

Yelp
Food was tasty but it was pricey & portion was small. This is a food truck so I don't see how their pricing is justified. I've been to other Vietnamese places with great tasting banh mi sandwiches but 35% cheaper.

Yelp
Honestly, a spot-on vermicelli bowl in the middle of a food-truck park was unexpected but entirely welcome.
google avatar

LT K.

Yelp
DFW is good food desert, more so when it comes to asian food. It's rare to find asian food that's tasty that I'd return. Because it's DFW I'm rating this a 4-star since it's hard to find tasty asian food. I had the vermicelli with grilled pork. It's seasoned well and not salty. It's even better tasting than some Vietnamese restaurants.
google avatar

Joshua T.

Yelp
Delicious pork tacos! Had an Asian cabbage slaw in it and were so good! Didn't take them long to prepare. Daughter preferred these over the neighboring food truck.
google avatar

Taleen B.

Yelp
I'm from LA where some of the best bahn mi sandwiches are made, and let me tell you the pickled carrot makes an AMAZING bahn mi sandwich. If you're craving a really good pork bahn mi this is the place to go. The service is just as wonderful. I don't know the lovely girls name that helped me out the times I've been there, but she makes the food GREAT and has great service as well.

Yelp
Pulled up to East Side today to meet up with some buddies to watch the Stars game (FYI go stars Game 7 W) & I was starving. The Pickled Carrot was parked out back. I don't think I've ever had Vietnamese food before but decided to give it a shot. I had just watched "Buzzfeeds Worth It" they did a review on Banh Mi sandwiches so I decided to give the chicken one a shot. It was delicious & super fresh! Only negative I had was on the ingredient to bread ratio there was too much bread. I also got the Pork V-Fries & they were awesome, even better than the sandwich. Now I want to try even more Vietnamese foods & would love to try more from The Pickled Carrot.

Rebecca B.

Yelp
The food here is consistently the best. I've been a customer for years, and I'm still all about the tofu banh mi and v-fries!
google avatar

Madira M.

Yelp
Good veggie options. I love a tofu Banh Mi!! A little on the dry side but still really good.

Karen S.

Yelp
Costumer service was absolutely horrible. Red head called me a bitch after being rude slamming the window on me and 3 other Costumers face for being at the pick up window. Absolutely unprofessional for no reason.

H J.

Yelp
If I'm at East Side, this is the only food truck for me. Obsessed with the eggplant fries

Nunya B.

Yelp
On my first visit, I was recommended the pork banh mi. It was good, but the bread overpowered the filling. I gave it another try tonight, and got the tacos with pork this time. Believe me when I say it was the BEST fusion taco I've ever had in my entire life. A little sweet, a little tangy, slightly spicy, and fresh! I'll be stopping by this place often for the tacos! I might try the spring rolls too. Awesome place!
google avatar

Catherine C.

Yelp
The pork banh mi is a solid choice to order. The loaded fries were good as well! This is located just a street over from the square and is in an area surrounded by other food trucks. So if one truck isn't your cup of tea, you've got a lot of options - Korean Mexican fusion, American...I loved the night vibe and being able to bring my pup along. It almost felt like I wasn't in Denton anymore, rather in Austin!
google avatar

Miyuki Y.

Yelp
It's a food truck in a nice outdoor seating lot with a few other trucks. I got the Banh mi and it was delicious! Quick service and you can use card!
google avatar

Ashlyn S.

Yelp
Delicious!! We ordered the v fries and Banh mi. If you order anything be sure to get the fries!!! They were our favorite by far. We spilt one but next time since we enjoyed them so much we will both get our own. The fries were coated to yummy, creamy sauce with lots of garnishes. The Banh mi pork sandwich was also good! The meat was the main attraction and did not disappoint. I will probably have this order again the next time I visit.
google avatar

Misti H.

Yelp
We had chicken street tacos and pork egg rolls. This food was hot, fresh, and so delicious. This was our first visit, and we'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
By far one of our favorite meals in Denton, and possibly on earth! We stopped in at the location within Harvest House. We tried out the Original Banh Mi sandwich, tacos, and egg rolls. We go back and forth between the pork and chicken, but definitely prefer the pork for a first experience. Wonderful flavors with just the right amount of spice. The tacos are a little easier to eat and are easier to portion control, but the classic sandwich is to die for. The egg rolls as a side are a must - always super hot, crispy, and fresh. Can't say enough good things about Pickled Carrot- They even catered our engagement party!
google avatar

Caitlyn B.

Yelp
I'm a fan of the Pickled Carrot. I've never intentionally sought them out, but I've eaten a couple selections whenever I am at Eastside or Harvest House. I believe they are almost always at Eastside, and the have a permanent location at Harvest House. It's nice to have something fresh to eat as opposed to the more fried fair. I like that I can get some tasty tofu, and they offer it here. The Baan mi is very good as well as the noodle bowl. The people working are generally pretty nice, sometimes the wait for food is a little over ten minutes but I'm used to waiting at food trucks. It's also not as over priced as some trucks can tend to be. I think I would say if you are at one of these two bars defiantly check it out. It's also fun to go to on a hot summer day.
google avatar

Cassandra W.

Yelp
The pork banh mi is delicious but a bit overpriced. The wait is usually quite long so be prepared. I've usually had a good experience here however at my last visit one of their workers was sitting in a chair next to the food truck high on drugs and nodding off so it was pretty uncomfortable to be around.
google avatar

Ali G.

Yelp
So yummy!! Hubby and I shared a chicken banh mi, a pork banh mi, and v-fries. Every single bite was delicious. I definitely recommend this food truck!
google avatar

G B.

Yelp
I am NEVER disappointed in my order from the Pickled Carrot! Always a crowd pleaser for guests in town for a little Dentoning, too.

Robert H.

Yelp
So good I went back the next day and brought friends with me! Add on extra order of Spring Rolls!
google avatar

Judy P.

Yelp
Found this place in a good truck park in Denton. We ordered the V fried s and tacos with chicken. A little pricey for what is it, I honestly wouldn't pay more than $5 for a Bahn Mi, I could get one with grilled beef for less than what they charge for one basic sandwich, but it was like eating a deconstructed bahn mi sandwich in taco and frenchfry form. A lot of flavor and textures which made it interesting. Be prepared for a wait! We went on a Saturday evening and waited about 40 minutes for Two dishes, so don't go order something if you're feeling hangry. Bonus points for making it fresh though. We are always willing to support small and local businesses!
google avatar

Laura P.

Yelp
Delicious banh mi from a Denton food truck -- wow!! We LOVE Vietnamese food (and we are from Garland) so we eat it often. The banh mi here are perfectly balanced and delicious - we loved the citrus tang and sweet contrast in the sandwich from the daikon and carrots. We missed cilantro, but not enough to sing anybody a star. The meat was so flavorful we can happily do without :) The bread was ON POINT -- crisp on the outside, perfectly fresh and tender on the inside. We would definitely come back here when we get a banh mi craving - (pretty often for us). The ONLY thing we wish was on offer here is an option to get a fried egg on the banh mi - once you try it, you will never go back to "plain" banh mi. 5 delicious stars
google avatar

Trina C.

Yelp
I love their egg rolls! They're fairly priced and taste great. I've had their banh mi and they're pretty tasty. Almost every time I'm out and smell their food it makes me crave it - and I *usually* give in. I'm not veg, but i like that they have a tofu option because some days I just like to go without meat. The service is great also! Really the perfect stop when you're out at Harvest House or around Austin St.
google avatar

Nette M.

Yelp
Food truck open during the lunch hour behind eastside... we ordered the loaded fries and sandwich - one pork and one chicken... both were seasoned perfectly and good portions. Thru also have a mushroom options for vegetarian option. Best yet, you can call ahead and have it ready once u arrive. This place was definitely the worth the hype!
google avatar

Jace W.

Yelp
I tried the V-Fries with pork as a pit-stop in a late night roadtrip down to Austin. I love any variation of loaded fries and these Banh Mi-styled ones did not disappoint! Also appreciate that the truck stays open so late, as my food options at this time of day were limited.

Matthew S.

Yelp
Food was beyond my expectations the tacos were amazing for how small it is it gave such a blast of flavor and the spring rolls are superb with the sauce!
google avatar

Peter G.

Yelp
Been there many times and it still is one of the best Ban Mi around. My favorite is the pork.
google avatar

Molly T.

Yelp
By far, this is my favorite food truck in Denton. The grilled pork banh mi is the only sandwich worth eating, full of fresh veggies and the unique BBQ style of grilled pork. The pork is also good in the cold noodle salad or get tofu if you're not craving some meat! They recently started making pho and so conveniently parked, at times, outside of East Side so you can walk over and within 15 minutes have your food in hand to walk back! The pho is beef and by the time you get back in, the rare steak is cooked properly. The broth is good too! Just ask for light noodles or the noodles soak up all the delicious broth. It comes with the proper additions of bean sprouts, Vietnamese basil, cilantro & jalapenos. So good! Thanks for offering a healthier alternative to the Austin Street Truck Stop! Keep on doing what you do PC and creating those raving fans of good Vietnamese food :)

Yelp
Upon entering the Austin St. Truck Stop, all we could smell were FRIES. The Pickled Carrot was parked right near the entrance but, as a Vietnamese Banh Mi food truck, we didn't realize at first that it had other goods. Rookie mistake. For $8, we got a pile of freshly fried, steaming fries drenched in garlic aioli, hoisin, and sriracha sauce and topped with peanuts, pickled carrots and daikon, cilantro, and, for our meat, we chose pork (other options included tofu, mushroom, and chicken). The fries were delightfully warm, crunchy and savory, and I could distinctly taste the garlic aioli, hoisin, and sriracha. With every bit of fries, I I could taste the pickled vegetables... peanuts... and sometimes cilantro. The flavors complemented each other well. The Austin St. Truck Stop was lively with people and was a great place to be on a Saturday night. There were a variety of food trucks and cheap alcohol. Keep in mind that it's 21+ after 9pm. I've never had such delicious fries, and the V-fries had a nice Asian touch to them. I split them with three friends and we were satisfied with the amount and price. Summary: food 5/5, ambiance 4/5, service 3/5.

Crystal B.

Yelp
Ordered the salad. It was fresh and delicious but I wanted more. So the o my problem was, I was still hungry afterwards.
google avatar

Zadokkolee A.

Yelp
I came for the Bahn Mi sandwich and was not disappointed! The pork was flavorful and the vegetables were fresh and crunchy. I'd definitely recommend for the sandwich. Didn't have to wait long either. It was a weekday at night when I went, so not sure if that played a role. Either way give this place a try!

Vic B.

Yelp
Always really good Ban Mihn. Fast and easy....buy 10 get 1 free.

Yelp
Came by East Side for lunch on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The pickled carrot was everything I love about Vietnamese food, fresh, lots of veggies, balanced and complex flavors. The chicken noodle bowl was ready in 10 minutes. It was cooked fresh balanced of spicy, sweet, crunchy, savory. I felt super satisfied but was able to stick on my healthy path. My kids had some as well and loved it. Would definitely eat here again. Good Amount for the price too.

Yelp
No joke, deeeelicious banh mi that I easily could have eaten two of in one sitting. At an event happening at the Embassy Suites and some brilliant mind decided to have a few food trucks come over for lunch on Day 1. Great idea and while I was pained to have to make a decision between tacos and such, I am go glad I went with my gut and got the banh mi with the grilled pork. Funny enough, I am a big fan of banh mi but I really enjoy them with tofu - I know, I know, it's barely considered a banh mi if it has tofu but whatever, you tell that to the guys at Saigon Sandwiches in SF who make hands down the best tofu banh mi EVER. Anyhoo, I decided to take a leap and go with the pork for this one and boy am I glad I made the call. So good - the size was perfect (filling without making me feel sick), garlic aioli the right balance and only a kiss of heat from the what I think were pickled jalapenos. I may have to find them again while in town to get another one of these sandwiches, it was that good!

Wendy A.

Yelp
The sandwiches are always fresh and delicious. Me son loves it. Service is fast and easy.
google avatar

Adrian V.

Yelp
The food is always phenomenal - you have an expectation for what it will taste like and then you are blown away.by how the spice, texture, and flavor overwhelm you!!! Never disappoints!!!!
google avatar

Bettina R.

Yelp
Finally!!! This is the place!!! So let's just start with the egg rolls... CRAZY GOOD! All 5 in my party loved them. An order comes with 3 and was $6 we cut them in 1/2 and all tried them. Then we all fought for who got to have the extra one. The FRESH taste really brings something else to the table. The other options were burgers, Mexican food, or barbecue. We tried almost everything. Everyone picked a different food truck. This area is great. A definite if you have kids that need to be outside, a group that needs lots of options. This place was perfect.
