These Are the Best Bakeries in London Right Now

"Elevating the meat pie to fine art, this hotel-based outlet produces tiny, ornate glazed pies—from chicken and wild mushroom to hand-raised pork pies—that are intended as grab-and-go lunches but must be preordered and are available only between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday." - Stacey Leasca

15 Great Pies to Eat in London

"Anyone who has heard of the Internet has seen Calum Franklin’s masterpieces — a fish-shaped seabass en croute here, a flawlessly latticed wellington there. No big deal. All in a day’s work. He may have moved on from the sainted pie room, but it still takes the (often bad and weird) British classic, the pork pie, and makes it magnificent. Pork shoulder, pork leg, pancetta, smoked ham hock and fennel seeds do the job." - Laura Goodman, James Hansen

Calum Franklin’s Pies Are Leaving Holborn Dining Room in London | Eater London

"Converted from the adjacent former deli in 2017 by Calum Franklin and head pie maker Nokx Majozi, this dedicated pie space focuses entirely on savoury pies and pâté en croûte rooted in British and French tradition. Its offerings are notable for artwork-like pastry, intricate design, and recipes grounded in careful research and technical craft; rapid attention via social media and word-of-mouth led to wider acclaim and a 2020 book by Franklin, helping the pie programme achieve a profile that in many ways eclipsed the parent restaurant—even as its founder prepares to move on." - James Hansen

Where to Eat Pastry at the Best London Restaurants and Bakeries | Eater London

"Look through the glass hatch of The Pie Room at Holborn Dining Room and “kitchen” is not the first word that comes to mind. Rather, this tiny, copper-encrusted room — manned with dervish intricacy by a hive of immaculate cooks — looks like the workshop of a master craftsman. That would be Calum Franklin, the ‘pastry deviant’ behind all of this who deploys cut patterns, rulers and pencils to produce lattices which wouldn’t be out of place at the V&A. Go to the restaurant for beef wellington, but the hot and cold counter of the pie room, open 11am-4pm, offers some of the best takeaways in the city." - Virginia Hartley

Huge sausage roll for £9. Served warm. You have a lot of meat with a thin wrapping of pastry which is made daily. Service is friendly. You can see the chefs at work behind the counter making the pies from scratch.

By accident, ended up at the same restaurant and same server 2 nights in a row @Pie Room on High Holden, London. Lucia was fantastic, and our party of 4 became fast friends with her Monday night, and then tonight our CEO had booked the same restaurant (unknowingly) for our business party of 10, and fortunately she was our server again. Amazing savory pies, cheeses and red wine. A must stop on London - be sure to ask for Lucia and tell her I said hi! Be sure to try one of their 300 gins.

If you are staying at rosewood the breakfast here is just ok. The full British breakfast or Avocado toast, acao bowl breakfast options are better. The Chinese breakfast id skip at all cost the rice porridge not the wonton noodle soup is really acceptable. For dinner the pies were well just kinda bleh. Cool looking place though .

Not life changing but well worth a shot. Lovely handcrafted savory pies in a large elegant room. Attentive service and in particular our server, Adele, was charming and took the time to show us the impressive room where the pies are made fresh every day. A bit pricey but a memorable British experience. Rhubarb dessert was lovely. Scotch egg also tasty.

Incredible setting and food but a one off ... Set in a beautiful building, this place has a well curated selection of pies for a lunch sitting (assume dinner is similar) - of the 4 pies on the menu only 3 were available, which is baffling as it was 1pm... But the pork and fennel pie I did get was phenomenal - though I'd expect that at £28 Sides are equally delicious (in our case perfectly crisp chips, and well seasoned/sauced veg) - though also at c.£8-9 per item. Service was fine, relatively attentive, a little obsequious but to be expected. Great for a treat if you're loaded or the company is paying...

The second time I was in the Pie Room. Wonderful service and highly recommend anyone who wants to have decent British pies. You can ask the waiter if you can visit the pie making room. The chefs were very friendly to show us what they were doing. Amazing concept. The only downside is the restroom is outside the restaurant. You have to go out first and downstairs, I suppose it is part of the hotel restroom.

We came here for Valentine's Day dinner, particularly looking forward the pie options. When we arrived we found it was a set menu and limited a la carte meaning we couldn't get the pie options we had planned. We were greeted by a friendly hostess on the door, and seated quickly, however, after taking our drinks order the service became incredibly inattentive. We waited 20 minutes then had to flag someone down to take our order and it was a further 5 minutes after that until someone came over. We had 3 different waiters throughout the time there so it was difficult to know who to ask. Felt that this was poor for a fairly expensive restaurant. When we did get the food however it was really great. Chicken pie was excellent.
