James Beard-Nominee Chef David Bull Leaves Austin to Open a Restaurant in Mineral Wells | Eater Dallas

"A small, locally owned pie shop run by Phyllis down the street whose desserts are highly regarded by the chef; the restaurant is partnering with her for pastries instead of maintaining an in-house pastry team." - Courtney E. Smith

The Pie Shoppe

Google
Hit or miss. Some items were really good, some were okay and some were not good. The pastries, hand pies and pepperoni rolls were really good. The donuts were okay, the maple bacon and Fruity Pebbles were the best ones. The coffee tasted burnt and was the worst part of our purchase. We did not try any cookies, cakes or regular pies this time.

May R.

Google
This place had history for years when I was a child. Now coming back to get a chocolate pie and pumpkin roll was disappointing. Never in my life, thought this place would go down hill… and it has. The taste was not great. Spend money for something I thought would be good. Wake up! Or lose customers and businesses!

Jason S.

Google
Don't let thr line worry you the staff is great and will get you in and out in no time. Some of the best donuts I have ever had. And make sure to grab a pie!

Jackie R.

Google
I absolutely love it here. Have been coming for years and I've never been let down by anything I've ever bought. Service is great too and the selection is broad. My only complaint is I wish they were closer to me.

The food itself at the Pie Shoppe is outstanding. My daughters absolutely love all of their sweet treats, especially the donuts. Unfortunately, on a recent trip home from a doctor’s appointment in Pittsburgh, I called informing them that the removal of the stitches in my hand took a bit longer than I’d expected, and I wouldn’t arrive there until 5:02 when closing time is 5:00. I offered to pay via credit card, and they could simply set my items outside after I was disrespectfully told they would not keep their doors open a minute past 5:00. Once again, the employee not so kindly let me know she could not and would not put my items outside. I completely understand adhering to set business hours, however I didn’t feel asking for two minutes of grace was too much, considering we live quite a distance from the Pie Shoppe. I had my exact order prepared, and was merely trying to purchase donuts to take home to my young girls. I’m very disappointed.

Google
Some items are good, some are not. Same with employees, some are friendly some are not. A young man there needs to adjust his attitude, and had a problem at the coffee stand I could hsve used help. That's when I noticed one female employee standing and watching me, arms crossed and a smirk on her face, obviously enjoying what I was going through. Between that woman and that young man, I walked out. A lot of your baked goods are from a box anyway. Nobody needs that aggravation.

Lisa

Google
I got a dutch apple pie and a walnut log. Both desserts were fresh and tasty. The only issue I had is that none of the items had prices on them. I did notice once I was in line that there was a digital board that showed pricing for some of the items offered, but not everything.

Mary B.

Google
Most of their baked goods are wonderful. Donuts are extra large and delicious. The cream puffs are good as well. Have never really gotten a baked good that was not at least above average.

Yelp
Such a blast from the past! When we were kids and heading to visit my grandma in Boswell, PA my mom and dad would always make a stop at The Pie Shoppe. Fast forward 30 plus years, they are still in business and thriving, my daughter and I made our annual trip to PA and I wanted to take her to the place my parents took me and I'm so glad we stopped. We got a Lemon Meringue pie for my uncle, and dozen donuts and got a couple fresh pepperoni rolls for lunch. The customer service was absolutely fantastic! They were totally stock with so many great baked goods all made in house! We will be stopping back each year after this Awesome Experience! BOOM!!!!

Yelp
The donuts and pastries and bread everything is to die for ! Fresh everyday ! The pizza is awesome I would drive miles to shop here because it's just so worth it. Get there early because they go quick! Don't forget the snails ! Service is wonderful very polite and helpful. The place is so cute and smells fabulous when you walk into it.

Yelp
Creme puffs, cream cheese cinnamon buns, fruit pies, donuts..... oh my, so good so fresh and so cheap! Anytime we drive in this area we splurge on the sweets here. They also have sandwiches and pizza but we haven't tried them.

Yelp
Great pie, clean, modern, and efficient shop. This was the first time I've been in, everything went great very pleased.

Lisa H.

Yelp
Its hit or miss with the baked goods. Stale bread, brownies taste like chemicals. Donuts are usually good. There are some unfriendly people working there.
google avatar

Brittny D.

Yelp
Purchased donuts, apple dumplings and coffee. All really great! Quick check out and sweet people!

Anita M.

Yelp
Cookies are their jam! Nice selection, always fresh and delicious. My favorites are the apricot filled and peanut blossoms.

Yelp
Awesome cinnamon rolls! Love the Pie Shop! Prices are great and the baked goods are excellent.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent service and super fresh and delicious donuts. My favorite was the basic glazed donut.
google avatar

Jocelyn N.

Yelp
This place is so good that I find any and all excuses to go back home using Route 30 even if it takes longer Growing up, I remember selling their pies, cinnamon rolls and snails -- everything is fresh and their renovation expanded their options even more! The deli sandwich I had during my most recent visit was great and the homemade roll was the icing on top (pun intended). I also love their pizza and highly recommend it. I had to get some donuts while I was there, too -- they're the old fashioned, doughy, homemade kind and they come in a ton of great varieties. Definitely worth a stop for lunch or breakfast if you're in the area or need an excuse to be like me!

Yelp
I stopped by with my sister on the way to the airport. I walk in to the smell of delicious baked goods. It took a bit to decide as they have so many choices. We ordered an orange cookie, mini blueberry pie and pepperoni roll. We enjoyed them outside on the patio. Our favorite was the orange cookie, soft delicious and great flavor. The blueberry pie was good but could have had more filling in it. The pepperoni roll was exactly what my sister had been wanting. The bread was so soft and tasted fabulous. The filling did not take over the bread so you could enjoy both. What a great shop!!!! We saw many locals getting take out, wish we lived closer.

Greg S.

Yelp
Great selection of baked goods. Something for everyone. Pleasant and attentive staff. Stop in every time we are in the area. Grab one of their sandwiches for lunch while driving the countryside viewing the awesome fall foliage.
google avatar

Kellie D.

Yelp
The BEST orange cookies, maple doughnuts, pepperoni rolls and lemon pies!! I'm from North Carolina and always drive 30 minutes from my in-laws to splurge on the tasty goodness!

Micah S.

Yelp
Stopped today to grab a few doughnuts, one glazed and one sugar. They tasted like they were a few days old, very stale. They are usually better than this! I always stop for doughnuts when I'm up that way. They have great doughnuts but I feel like they made more leading up to fort days because they knew they would do more business. So they went for quantity instead of quality! What a shame. Do better next time .

Yelp
Choices, choices, choices! From Baklava to cookies, to cakes, donuts and of course pie, this little shoppe has a lot to offer. To our surprise, they had pizza rolls, soups and sandwiches as well. The shop is open seven days a week. The staff was helpful and friendly. We got pie, cake, cinnamon rolls and their specialty treat which consists of pie dough layered with butter, cinnamon, and sugar. I must say, those little nuggets were our favorite. Decadent? Yes, but that's why it's a treat.
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
This little pie shop totally rocks. I mean 6 types of apple pies, seriously. We stopped to pick up a blueberry crumb pie. Will update with a pie report when we get home.

Yelp
ALLERGY ALLERT. Bought a pumpkin gob outside of Little Italy from The Pie Shoppe during Ligonier Days on 10/16. I am severely allergic to peanuts/tree nuts. There was no packaging calling out nuts OR nothing on their webs calling it out. I have attached both images. I ended up in the hospital due to this severe allergic reaction and went into anaphylactic shock People with allergies, please do not eat here. As for The Pie Shoppe, do better so people don't end up in the hospital like me.

Kathy R.

Yelp
Watch out for the pepperoni rolls. Heavy on the dough. Light on the pepperoni. Once home I opened them up, added pepperoni and air fried them. I'm just gonna learn how to do my own.
google avatar

Beken P.

Yelp
I came to check this place out because of some of the reviews but honestly. This place was overrated. Bought 4 pies and the apple pie was the better of all 4 and even that one. Was mediocre at best. It's not worth it
google avatar

Deb G.

Yelp
Lots and lots of pies! My family tried a variety of small pies so that we could get a representative sample. We thought the cherry, blackberry, and coconut cream pies were pretty darn good with tasty fillings. The coconut cream was simply packed with coconut! The cherry and blackberry both had great flavor - there was a bit of a fight over the last bit of blackberry. The blueberry was a little too sweet for most of us, and I didn't like the lemon - kinda goopy and not enough lemon flavor. Overall, well worth a stop if you are passing by!

Linda F.

Yelp
It's a landmark and worth the drive. The pies are known throughout SWPA. A great source for fundraising too. I believe they still deliver that.

Glenda A.

Yelp
I bought threw a school fundraiser 3 pies and a order of snails, those snails were harder than a rock, even after microwaving for 16 seconds, They had to go in the garbage, very disappointed
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
We stop here for banana nut bread and pumpkin cookies. Don't drive by without stopping in for some freshly baked goods.

Yelp
Every timelen I got to laughlintown I would stop & buy their Eclairs. They were the best I ever had filled from one end to the other with cream with chocolate icing. Many times I ordered them the night before to make sure I would get them. Was not able to get there for a period of time because of illness. Well knowing I would be passing through on Friday I called on Thursday & ordered 14 of them. They cost me $36.00. I will never buy them again because they hardly had any filling in them, the doughnut part has an odd taste & they are not worth that price anymore. The changes you made are terrible. Why not keep the product the same when you raise the price? If they continue to do this with their products they will not be getting any good reviews. If I lived closer I would take them back & demand a refund.

Yelp
I am so surprised to see the overall rating of this bakery. I am a sweet freak and I LOVE pie. I just happened to be passing through this town and stopped. I bought a bunch of different items - pumpkin cookies, coconut pie, apple pie and peanut butter cookies. They were all FABULOUS! I took the apple pie to a Thanksgiving luncheon and everyone raved about the quality. I agree. This was amazing. Wish I weren't so far away. What is wrong with you people who rated them poorly. Have you never had great pie?!
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Good cinnamon buns. Very, very long line to wait. In all honesty, not entirely worth the aggravation compared to one or two local outfits I know of. Not much more to be said here.

Janet L.

Yelp
The cream puffs are delicious ! The baked goods are so goodfrom the bread / rolls to the pies--

Scott M.

Yelp
This used to be our go to bakery when in the area. Pizza dough was half raw when we went to eat it. Peanutbutter filling was super dense in the doughnut. . The bear claw hardly had any nuts in it. Very disappointing hopefully they get it together

Bethany S.

Yelp
We stopped for lunch. I got a BLT and broccoli salad. They gave me my BLT with just bacon and then said I have to ask for the lettuce and tomato because they are condiments. Like, huh? I got the rest of my sandwich after I asked and it was edible. Definitely not enough tomato or bacon though. The broccoli salad was too sweet and didn't have a salty ingredient to balance it out.

Colleen M.

Yelp
Delicious donuts and breakfast sandwiches. The staff are friendly and patient - there are so many options it can be hard to decide! The cake donuts were tender and delicious. The Neapolitan raised donut is a must try. We also had breakfast sandwiches which were hot and made to order. I highly recommend stopping in!

Yelp
What is not to like here? There are a variety of pies, cookies, cakes and other baked goods for purchase. I stopped here right around noon and saw people stopping in for pizza, subs and soup. The gobs are huge and filling. This place has been a staple in the Ligonier Valley, but it's not just for locals.

Diane S.

Yelp
Laughlintown Pie Shoppe has always been our ultimate desserts location. The kids do fundraisers from there and when we're in the area, we anticipate deliciousness from them. Last Fall, we bought a raspberry peach pie and were thoroughly disappointed. The top crust was heaped up SO high, couldn't wait to dive into it! Well, there was hardly any filling in it! The flavor of the little bit of filling was good, not outstanding. So, we figured it was a fluke and returned today. Bought a harvest pie - it happened again - there's hardly any filling! The filling was thick and pasty like canned fruit and, again, the top crust was real high. Juice had bubbled out of the top crust, suggesting the filling was up against the top crust, but it wasn't. How do they manage to do that? It doesn't matter, learned our lesson, we're not going back.

Yelp
Well I would love to post a photo of the wedding cake that we ordered for our wedding... However, THEY F**KING FORGOT TO MAKE IT! My wife and I decided to go with the Pie Shoppe for our special day. They were a preferred vendor for our location, they had the best reviews, and they had the best tasting cakes! We ordered a very special naked cake, because that's what my wife had always wanted. Additionally we ordered 200 donut-holes; to be sitting out along side our popcorn bar and cookies. Right before we make our entrance into our reception, the owner of the lodge we were at, tells us that our cake still hadn't arrived. (We were told that the cake would be delivered at 1:30, just before the ceremony. It was now 4:00) When I called and asked where our cake was, the response I got was "Was that today?" She went on to say that they must have lost our order slip, and that they didn't have anything for us. I can't tell you how close to throwing my phone I was. How do you forget to make a wedding cake for a couple's most important day of their lives!? The Pie Shoppe made an attempt to rectify the situation with a thrown together cake that came 5 hours late. However by that time, some of the guests had left. The ones that hadn't were all questioning why we didn't have the naked cake that we had bragged about. It also had fruit toppings on it that we specifically said we did not want on our cake. The donuts came from the Wal-Mart bakery. That pissed me off. Especially the fact that they came so late, that almost all of them went to waste. On a personal note... not having your wedding made or delivered on time really screws up the entire reception! The DJ had a set schedule for everything, including the cake cutting. Without a cake, it just completely messed up everything from dinner and toasts, to dancing and dessert. We don't even have the top layer of our cake for our one year anniversary. Despite how little we tried to let it show, it really destroyed our mood and happiness for the day. They have sent us all of our money back, but it still doesn't fix the only wedding we will ever have. Needless to say, I would not recommend The Pie Shoppe for anyone else's wedding in the future. Neither will the 100+ guests that we had, and all know that the Pie Shoppe, forgot our wedding.

Yelp
3.5 STARS IS ABSURD!! The best, the BEST Cinnamon roll in America. I'm driving down there tomorrow for a family birthday party at Ligonier country club and the first stop is going to be the pie shop. When I was in middle school and high school we sold they are cinnamon rolls as fundraiser items, they do big fundraisers for a lot of school districts and organizations, you would not expect a company that does bokeh produce baked goods to have such an amazing high-quality, but this place it defies all expectations! Their pies and baked goods, but specifically their cinnamon rolls are just out of this world. 10/10. A+++. No other way to express how good these things are. I like the ones with the white glaze, not the maple glaze, maple always seems weird to me than anything else. It's right outside of Ligonier just south on Route 30 and walk one town, there's lots of cute antique shops, and once you pass the pie Shoppe, you had up in the mountains and there's really great hiking trails, so that you can get a workout in and an amazing bakery experience all in one go.

Yelp
I have ordered pies and pumpkin rolls from my students on numerous occasions for school fundraisers. I've always been impressed with the Pie Shoppe's stuff. Recently, I was able to stop in to the store, and I was blown away by the great variety of deliciousness stuffed into that little building right along Route 30. My goal was to get lunch. I have heard great stuff about the Pie Shoppe's white pizza; however, I opted for a few ham & cheese sliders, and a container of chicken salad. Both were delicious. (I noticed right away that the Pie Shoppe carries and uses Delallo meats & cheeses.) I bought a chocolate chip gob for dessert. With a Diet Pepsi added on, my purchase was $12. Totally reasonable. I still don't know how I resisted the temptation to buy all of the sweet things -- donuts, pastries, cupcakes, and more. It all looks so very good. I see a return trip in my near future.

JanElizabeth W.

Yelp
We got a Dutch apple pie and a box of assorted cookies. Strangely, every type of cookie tasted exactly the same... and the pie crust tasted like the cookies. Also, the Dutch apple topping was ground to a fine, sand-like texture as opposed to the buttery crumbles I'm used to. Nothing was offensively bad, but I would not make a special trip here again.
google avatar

Lucas W.

Yelp
Genuinely some of the best baked goods you can get on this side of the mountain... also the remodel of the store looks great!
google avatar

Adam L.

Yelp
People are talking about the cinnamon rolls and pumpkin gobs and donuts. Can we talk about the pies? Because for a place with "pie" in the name, the pies are terrible. The crust is tasteless. On every pie. The fruit fillings are decent, but the meringue pies - like the lemon meringue - are massively artificial. Horribly disappointing.

Big A.

Yelp
Disappointed..AGAIN! Tasteless dry and artificial tasting...as usual. We NEVER got anything good from this place. Thankfully we only stop here about once a year just to see if they got any batter. This was year # 15. And, it will be the LAST year.
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
This place deserves 5 stars. I received great service at the pie shoppe, and the cashier took the time to give me recommendations! After much debate, I ordered the glazed oreo doughnut, a pumpkin gob, and a chocolate chip gob. All were DELICIOUS.
google avatar

Amit D.

Yelp
The Original Pie Shoppe is on US 30 and is on the way from Pittsburgh to DC. I always drove by it, thinking that I'll stop someday. So, this one time, I decided that I had to. They have a wide collection of donuts, cakes, cookies, pies, sandwiches, etc. I was really impressed with the variety. I tried one, and was pretty unimpressed. I found it way too sweet, and not having many other flavors. Maybe I tried a wrong item. Items are very cheap though. I got a pastry and a coffee for under $2!

Crystal J.

Yelp
amazing love this place never ever sad belly
google avatar

Teresa W.

Yelp
The baked goods here are ok. Last time I was in, I was impressed that they expanded upon some local products. They now have a lot of delallos products and local honey. I wasn't impressed with my bagel though They charge an extra .50 for cream cheese. We bought 3. The cream cheese was barely there and we waited 20 minutes for them!
google avatar

Mallory A.

Yelp
You are literally doing damage to your well being by not stopping by this place! The best assortment of pastries and goodies at ridiculously low prices. Get one of everything and you won't break the bank: ever! The donuts are incredible, the hand pies so delicious, the mini pies and so cute. It's just all the best. Hands down. If you stop once, you'll likely always make a trip out of your way just to stop by again.
google avatar

Travis C.

Yelp
I won't be returning to the store front in Laughlintown. There is no order and it's basically a giant free for all. Next customer was called and pushed up from the back. I was yelled at to get in line by a worker, mind you there are no lines. People are basically doing whatever the hell they want. I put my things down and walked out. You need a better system for customers like pull tabs or actual fucking lines.
google avatar

Tim B.

Yelp
Fantastic selection against really reasonable prices, and great service. These people know their stuff. Coming from Holland I can say that the Dutch Apple Pie is pretty accurate here.
google avatar

Amber H.

Yelp
Based on what I received from a fundraiser my niece did for her school, I wouldn't buy anything from here for any reason. I ordered a variety box of gobs (red velvet, chocolate chip cookie, and pumpkin). The cookie gobs were totally inedible, the cookies were rock hard and couldn't even be cut with a knife. The other two cake varieties were beyond stale. The filling tasted like vegetable shortening. They were truly foul. I added a star to my review because they refunded my money. Still wouldn't order from here again.

KidsCare A.

Yelp
Great products and nice people but check your box or bag. I stopped twice this week to order a variety of cookies and had the same diminutive counter person both times. The orders weren't exactly what I ordered at the counter but I guess perfection is hard to find these days.
