The Pierside Santa Monica (Los Angeles Area, California) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"First-time visitors to Santa Monica may occasionally be surprised to find it a bit less laid-back and bohemian than they expect. The Pierside Santa Monica sets out to fix all that. This isn’t just the first luxury boutique hotel to open in Santa Monica in quite some time, but its address on Colorado Avenue at Ocean Avenue makes it the closest one to the iconic Santa Monica pier — a victory for anyone who’s a stickler for truth in hotel names." - Tablet Hotels

Super new and cozy hotel! The rooms are spacious, with a giant extra sofa bed, and most importantly, everything is spotless. I stayed with my young adult kids and they enjoyed every aspect of the hotel. The customer service is top-notch — the team is incredibly professional yet genuinely friendly. They make sure you have everything you need to make your stay comfortable and easy: beach chairs, towels, beach games, soccer balls, and refillable water bottles — all complimentary! The location is perfect too — just one minute from the famous Santa Monica shopping promenade and the pier, and close to all the best oceanfront restaurants. Perfect in every way!

Google
The hotel is located right in front of the Pier, in a great spot—you can explore a lot just by walking around. Whenever we had something farther away to do, we’d rent a Veo bike and that was it—problem solved! The room is beautiful, clean, with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom offers high-quality soap, shampoo, and conditioner. They lend you everything you need for the beach, like chairs, umbrellas, and even sand toys. I recommend grabbing your beach gear before breakfast, otherwise you might miss out on the umbrellas. The pool is nice, the gym is decent, and parking is paid. The hotel has a restaurant, but breakfast options are limited. One issue we had was that the gym’s air conditioning wasn’t working during our stay. We spoke to the front desk and they said someone had been called to fix it, but we left and it still hadn’t been repaired. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but I felt it could’ve been better considering the high daily rate. Thanks to everyone for the attention, and I wish you and your family a wonderful stay at the hotel!

Google
Great hotel. My wife and I (plus two children - a baby and a 5 year old) stayed here at the end of an epic road trip, and this was one of the best hotels we stayed at. Perfect location right near the pier and beach access, and all the Ocean Drive restaurants. Nearby public parking. The hotel had a selection of boogie-boards, beach towels, blankets, deck chairs etc to be borrowed for free, so we had a great day at the beach.

Google
Amazing location, ok hotel. The hotel is only a 5min walk to Santa Monica Pier/Beach and in an amazing location. I had stayed at this location before the name change and new management and I loved it. I was expecting to love it just the same, but unfortunately I did not. The room was nice, but the bathroom was very small. The room we got had a broken window on the outside pane and the wallpaper in the bathroom under the sink was peeling off. We were expecting a view of the beach as we had booked a Costal King, but were told none of the rooms actually face the beach and they only ofter partial views. Our view out of the broken window was mostly of the park. Our TV also stopped working on the very first night and was out of service for our entire trip. When booking, our itinerary stated we would owe a $103 deposit upon arrival. When we arrived, we were then notified of an additional $97 "resort fee" we were not expecting to pay as nowhere in our itinerary or email or booking site stated that. A chair, some towels, and an umbrella to borrow when going to the beach is not worth an extra hundred bucks to me. Parking is valet only for a $67 daily fee which is ridiculous when there's a parking garage right across the street that charges $35 over night with a $25 daily max. Although we loved how close it was to everything, we probably won't be staying here again any time soon.

Google
What a great place! We just stayed for 1 night but loved the relaxed modern feel to the place. The proximity to the pier was a bonus and didnt need to spend a lot of time walking to places. All the staff were really friendly and had no problem allowing us to store our luggage after checking out. Felt safe and would definitely consider staying here again if in the area.

Google
It was almost an all in one resort. Could easily get vehicle in and parking attendants make it easy. The guests get well greeted by professionals the entire stay. The staff sent a birthday basket for our birthday celebration. The Hotel restaurant food and drinks were delicious. Not saying this just because alcohol makes people drunk. That’s not the case at their bar. George truly mixes a wonderful selection of drinks that taste delicious not tasting an ounce of alcohol from start to finish.

Google
Stayed for one night in late June to have some time by the beach before heading to downtown LA. The room was comfortable and clean, the staff were super friendly and helpful, and the location can't be beat! Perfect for exploring Santa Monica, literally next to the pier entrance and easy beach access. My only (minor) gripe was with the clientele, which was a bit more of a party scene than I would prefer, but friendly nonetheless.

Google
This hotel provides an exceptional hospitality experience, surpassing any I have encountered. The staff's friendliness and welcoming nature create a genuinely personal and memorable stay. From Sunday to today, their service has been exemplary, demonstrating a clear passion for their work. The bar and kitchen staff were super kind to my daughter and pet canelo❤️. For a superior family vacation in Santa Monica, this is the ideal choice.

Yelp
Lovely hotel! Very close to the pier, beach, and shopping center. Seems to be the closest hotel to the pier, the room is very spacious and well furnished. Staff is wonderful, they also let you take chairs, towels, and blankets to the beach even on your check out day. I stayed one night and enjoyed the shopping center my first day, my second day even after checking out they let me take the chairs and towels to the beach and held my luggage. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a nice hotel in a fun spot of Santa Monica!

Yelp
First, the good: Location is great, obviously. Room was clean & bed was comfortable enough. Security seemed sufficient, which isn't a trivial compliment in this area at times. Aesthetically what you would expect of a beachside hotel, and all the staff I met were wonderful people doing their jobs well. Functionally, my room fell far short. On-site food is overpriced for what it is; there are better, lower-priced options within the surrounding block in a tourist heavy area - make that make sense. Shower had no door, which left the bathroom floor a nightmare, and there was no fan leaving the vanity useless afterwards as well. There were no washcloths to apply or assist w/ removing the body wash under astoundingly deficient water pressure. The body wash, shampoo, etc were nice otherwise, I guess. Terrible internet leaving me to tether to my phone when on site. Put succinctly, if half the attention given to presentation was applied to function, the entire experience would've been different. For the record, I'm a SoCal resident & high prices don't alarm me when there's actual value behind them. My company booked the accommodations to save me a drive back and forth to Irvine all week. If I'd booked this for a vacation and arrived with family or otherwise shared the space for more than a day or two, I'd feel ripped off. $68/day for valet is exceptionally egregious - even when it doesn't come out of my own pocket. I was expecting they had to park across town or something like some places in the bay, but my car literaly sat 100' away for 2 days and nights in a parking area presumably managed by the property. That's just *greed* any way you slice it.

Yelp
This hotel is nice and is about the closest you're going to get to the Santa Monica pier. That said, what bugs me more than anything is when companies don't have transparent or accurate pricing or policy information on their site and The Pierside Santa Monica bugs me. Here's the discrepancies I've found with just our reservation. - Reserving our room (pre-pay) through The Pierside's own website, my total was $2,830.80 yet I was billed $2,835.12 right away. Still not sure why. - When you reserve a room and it states "Includes ALL taxes and fees", this doesn't appear accurate. They are not including a Destination Amenity Fee. Our bill had this at $40 with no taxes. However, on their site, it says this is $45 plus tax. If this fee is non-optional, why isn't it included in my total? - If you pre-pay a reservation, no matter what is said on the site or on your reservation details page, it is non-cancelable and non-refundable. Our reservations details page said we have 48 hours to cancel, but this was not accurate. For the sake of transparency and like others have said, parking is $68 a night and is valet only. Tax on the $68 comes out to $12.24 as of Mar'25. I shouldn't have to go through 28 FAQs on the website to understand how much I'm paying.

Yelp
This is such a fun hotel! The location is perfect, just steps away from the Santa Monica pier. The decor is playful and definitely gives off beach vibes. Surfboards, bikes, boogie boards are available for guests to borrow. They're very dog friendly as well.

Yelp
First time coming down to Santa Monica with my wife and we couldn't have picked out a better hotel . The Location is excellent, you can walk everywhere, to the pier, to restaurants and to stores . The service at check in was fast and friendly . The room was nicely decorated and clean . The bed was so comfortable. And to top it off they are connected to a restaurant that was great . I don't even want to check out any other hotels next time we're down here . We had such a great experience here were definitely coming back here .

Yelp
The area alone that this pier is located around is a very very busy and frequently visited area. As far as the pier goes, we were thinking that there was going to be a little bit more to do on the pier as we do see it a little bit more smaller compared to our San Francisco pier. But there is some entertainment with dancers or singers. There are a few restaurants some booths that sell different items. It's still a good place to go out and enjoy the beach as well or even get some fishing done. There's a little something for everybody to do while you're there. You can walk all the way to the end of the pier to the very end of the deck, and look out over the ocean and just take in the beautiful scenery.

Yelp
The valet/bellhops/guys who manage the driveway are smart and stellar. Guiding traffic in and out and lyft drivers who are re-routed. The two men out there today/this morning and afternoon are doing goddess' work.

Yelp
Update: The "Director" responded to my initial review, asking that I reach out, which I did. However, it seems they have no real intention of holding themselves accountable. When I emailed Chris, who supposedly replied to my review, on October 4th (even though I checked out on September 29th), I received this automated reply: "Greetings! My last day at The Pierside will be September 9, 2024. Should you need any assistance, please contact Judith Villarreal, Operations Manager at Judith.Villarreal@thepiersidehotel.com" It's unclear why they're using a person who no longer works there to respond to constructive feedback. The message is loud and clear--they simply do not care!

Yelp
The rooms you get are not as advertised! I'll start by saying that the front desk staff is was nice and apologetic, but appears they are just used to apologizing. I booked a "coastal king" which by their website definition said it had an ocean facing view, and a walk in shower. Nope!! On top of that, our room wasn't available until 5 (half hour late) and this didn't even include the fact that we arrived at 1pm. I knew check in was later and made plans, but even coming back at the appropriate check in time, we had to wait because it wasn't "ready". Got to the room and was surprised that we in fact faced another building. Could you see the water? Yeah.... If you opened the curtains, stood on the couch, and peeked over the corner. False advertising!! Shower was a regular tub/shower. The room smelled clean, but had a gross filmy substance on the floor, so had to wear shoes in my room, and then when I sat on the couch in the room, it was damp! Not sure what happened there, but if a room is not comfortable for people because it needed a deep clean, you should not be checking it out to people until it's ready!! I've worked in hotels and this was unacceptable. Upon calling the front desk, we got an apology, but no effort to do anything about it. To top it ALL off... we were told we could check out later the next day due to the room not being ready. However, we came back to our room at 11:30 after breakfast, only to find we had been locked out!! And when my husband came back from the front desk about 20 minutes later, the staff had to come let us in because their key making machines weren't working! To say this place was super disappointing is an understatement. Our first time to Santa Monica, and most likely our very last.

Yelp
Found the Pierside on Expedia and we were looking to spend a week in Santa Monica/Los Angeles. We got a good price on the hotel given the neighborhood and proximity. It's a block from Santa Monica Pier and has a lot of restaurants and shopping within walking distance. The hotel is very new and is still being worked on. For instance, the restaurant/bar wasn't complete during our stay. The room was very welcoming, clean, and new. Room service was on point and our room was cleaned and freshened daily. They have all the basics including a steamer and hair dryer. Two things that were a little off-putting were the check in and the credit card hold. I had to call my bank twice because staff kept stating my card was declined. However, whenever I spoke with my bank they would tell me there were no issues with my card. The lady at the front couldn't come up with any logical reasons for why this was happening and couldn't find any other way around the issue. She did mention issues with their credit card reader. We were exhausted from our trip and just wanted to retire to our room to rest. Secondly, they charged a $600 deposit. The deposit they said where for drinks or food. However the restaurant wasn't open so not sure what things we'd charge to our room. All in all it was a great stay for the price point I was able to book the room for. We had a great time and the Pierside was a good HQ. I'm sure it'll be even better once they get into a good groove.

Mason P.

Yelp
It's great being so close to the pier. And for the price you pay, it's not crazy compared to local hotels. But overall, it's hard to give five stars win the streets around that area are so dirty. I would not suggest the restaurant in this hotel. The drinks were good, but the food was not. They also said that the pool was heated since they do not have a Jacuzzi I was excited about this. When I found the pool, it was indeed cold and not heated. I'll probably stay again if I'm ever planning to be at the pier

Murphy B.

Yelp
Tom pretty much didn't respond to my review. No need for me to reach out, but it is my duty to make sure others don't stay here. I've stayed in many hotels around the world and this by far was the worst at the price point you have! You really need to lower your rates to around $200 a night, that is the Market this hotel should be in. I would be ok with that.

Yelp
Location, location, location. The hotel is beautiful. You are within walking distance of many attractions and restaurants galore. The staff was amazing!! Highly recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a comfy, beautiful and convenient.

Yelp
VERY Disappointing Experience during Recent Stay - 1. Upon arrival, we were given a room with a broken air conditioner, management said they don't have any other available rooms and downgraded us into a smaller room with inferior views and a smaller bathroom. The 2 "queen" beds in this room were so tiny, we had to sleep separately, and we are both average built adults. The next day, we were moved to another room to compensate for the trouble, only to discover that the air conditioner in this room is also malfunctioning causing the room to be very stuffy. 2. All the amenities advertised on their website such as the beautiful pool, restaurant, bar and even half of the lobby were under construction, even on the 7th floor we could hear construction noises sometimes. The walls are paper thin, we were able to hear the next door family and their crying baby during the first night of our stay. 3. The front desk staff promised to waive all fees, including parking charges, as compensation for the inconveniences we faced. However, when we received the final bill, we were charged for these fees and parking despite the promises made.

Laura M.

Yelp
Absolutely the worst service by a manager possible. I requested a parking receipt and the manager on duty hung up on me and did not even try to resolve my inquiry for a simple parking receipt. Never have I experienced such rude lack thereof hospitality from a fellow business neighbor.

Kathleen N.

Yelp
Traveling with twin toddlers is intense. The staff at Pierside were so kind to us. We were able to get early check-in and late check-out which made the transition with all of our bags/gear much easier. I was asked if we wanted a two queen room or a king room at check-in. I answered: whichever has the most space for the twins' pack-n-plays. They upgraded our room and we had so much space. I'm sure the regular room would have been great too, but they were being generous. The twins loved playing in the room and we had a beautiful view of the ocean. The room was really nicely styled and the shower was huge. The front desk was very quick to respond to questions/requests. Even the housekeeping staff went out of their way to be kind. One of my sons was having a hard time and they helped to distract him from his tantrum by showing him something cool. The location can't be beat. It is so close to the pier and great places to eat. This is the best hotel hospitality I've received. They even sent our kids home with adorable stuffed animals. The servers at the hotel restaurant were warm and friendly too.

Devin T.

Yelp
Great hotel, easy convenience, beautiful restaurant and bar. Staff is super friendly, ideal location. You can walk to anything and everything.

Ken S.

Yelp
Great stay great bar - Andy the bartender was fantastic! Great location! Will definitely be back!

Cliff H.

Yelp
Great location. Small rooms. Stayed one night. They charge $65 for parking and $125 for our small dog. Ridiculous.

Samantha R.

Yelp
Overall a good hotel, was new, clean and the staff was friendly. Only complaint is the hidden daily $20 amenity fee for the " board shop" and the free water bottle that I didn't ask for or need.

Yelp
This is a very old hotel. They have slapped a coat of paint on it and called it 'updated'. They are undergoing renovations and have no amenities on site. No pool. No restaurant. Not a single piece of furniture to sit outside in the sunshine. I realize NOW that on the bottom of the booking page in the smallest font it stated that some amenities were not available. If there is NO POOL and NO RESTAURANT then this hotel should not appear in a search for a hotel with these options. As well, this is a 7 story hotel and only one single elevator car was working. Some days we waited over 20 minutes for the elevator. We booked our room over 3 months ago and the best they could provide us was a street side on the 3rd floor right above the construction zone. Both mornings, outside our window, there were fist fights and police called to the McDonald across the street. When we asked to be moved we were told the hotel was full. I looked on both BOOKING.COM & EXPEDIA.COM Both sites had 8 rooms available. Also we were told due to the inconvenience (and quite frankly gross disappointment) that they would provide us with some special 'offers'. The offers?? A discount on a surfboard rental. We are 2 x 62 yr old women. How about offering us a gift card to a local restaurant? We had a room with 2 double beds, a small table and a single chair. I asked the front desk why there was only one chair. The two of us wanted to eat our take out dinner at the table in our room (not on our beds). Literally the desk clerk replied 'Next time you should look a little closer at the photographs of your room. You should have seen that your room only included one chair. ' I could go on about my interactions with the desk staff. For the amount we paid (especially in cdn $$) this hotel should have been pristine. Instead it was overpriced, old and a complete disappointment.

Yelp
The location is great, the hotel it's self is very nice, and the front desk and valet are very helpful and friendly. With that being said the rooms and elevator are VERY small. I also hadn't been to santa monica in years and 100% will not be back. The beach was covered in trash and rude people. Again, that's not the hotels fault and i did enjoy my stay there. Everything about it was nice just wish i would've know how small everything was going to be.

Bre J.

Yelp
The Hotel was Clean, Newly Renovated and aesthetic was nice within the Lobby and bar area. However, Definitely over priced for what it is. There was no secure Wifi for guest, valet was $55 dollars, pool wasn't available during our stay and there are NO rooms with views of the pier or ocean as advertised. The only views you get are of the street or Freeway. The distance to shopping and restaurants were the only Plus during our stay. I wouldn't stay again and wouldn't recommend. There are better hotels within the same area for the same price tag. unfortunately, I Booked The Pierside Hotel thinking it was a good option.

Joey E.

Yelp
Amazing hotel, walking distance to the pier plus all the amazing restaurants. The staff is amazing

Jonathan M.

Yelp
This hotel is new but was poorly thought out in a number of ways. I would not stay here again. The room has no desk whatsoever or any work-type of chair ... just a couch ... making it almost impossible to do work. There are NO IRONS in the entire hotel ... and no ironing boards ... only steamers. Again, making it useless for a business traveler. They also make it difficult to get onto the wifi by requiring you to enter your email and do a verification ... undoubtedly to sell your data to someone. Also it's located RIGHT NEXT to a HIGHWAY. I would AVOID.

Krysta M.

Yelp
My experience with this hotel was unpleasant, save your money and book elsewhere. We specifically spent extra money to be in what they advertised as the "coastal king" in which we were to have a view and a nice walk-in shower. Instead we were given a room that is directly looking at a McDonald's, and has a shower/tub combo. When I spoke with management they were unable to offer any accommodations other than a refund on the a "resort fee" for both nights totaling $50, when we spent well over that amount for the room specifically. Management said the "coastal king" rooms were any rooms above the fourth floor, and that all of the rooms have "partial views". Had we known this, we would not have paid the extra money. We decided to stay here instead of where we regularly stay, which was clearly a poor decision. The photos for the room are incorrect, as well as the description. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone, and I will not stay here again.
