The Pig at Bridge Place, Kent, UK - Explore & Book

"Take one country manor fallen on hard times (with a raucous history, courtesy of Led Zeppelin), apply a modern rural-luxe makeover, a 25-mile menu, a fabulous bar and some treatment rooms and – voila! – you've hit the hospitality jackpot. The Pig at Bridge Place is a triumph, rain or shine. This newest addition in the hotel group’s small and very well turned out collection excels where it matters most – the people. From the restaurant to the reception and everywhere between, the attentive staff are smiley, friendly and relaxed. There's plenty to see and do. Potter through the walled garden, feast on mouth-watering pizza, sample superb Kentish wines on the terrace or relax with a spa treatment. Being new and boutique - just 29 rooms - you might find it hard to get a booking, but do keep trying. We adored the pimped-up wood cabin vibe of the Hop Pickers' Huts and the spacious, elegant Coach House rooms. If you like a bit of history opt for the rooms inside the main house. Bridge Place is easily reached by train from central London (60mins), and just three miles south of historic Canterbury, so you have no excuses not to make it here. Yet make it you must, as soon as possible. We've already booked our next stay. Highs Superlative staff. Guy, Jamie and the rest of the team at Bridge Place demonstrate all that is best in friendly, relaxed serviceThe Insta-worthy restaurant with its open kitchen knocking out delicious but unpretentious food and tasty drinks Beautifully renovated rooms with lots of luxe additions: Bramley toiletries, KitchenAid coffee machines, fluffy robesThe walled garden. Immaculately presented with its wood-fired pizza Garden Oven for a casual lunch or light supperFor total privacy, The Barn is a dream – a gorgeous hideaway in the old stable block with a freestanding roll-top bath and views of the Kentish meadows Lows Parking is limited on busy weekendsTreatments are fantastic but pricey, and with only two treatment rooms in the Potting Shed, we advise you book well aheadSome rooms have low ceilings; guests with mobility issues should avoid the rooms with stairs to a mezzanine level" - Kate Parsons

The Pig at Bridge Place | Best places to stay in Canterbury

"Three miles outside Canterbury, Bridge Place is an impressive Jacobean mansion with a colourful history – in recent decades, it was known for hosting rock and roll parties and gigs, including Led Zeppelin.  This is a quirky, character-filled establishment, from the seven Hop Picker’s Huts that sit on stilts alongside the river, providing tranquil, waterfront accommodation, to the Potting Sheds, which double as spa treatment rooms.  The kitchen has a strict sourcing policy – everything comes either from the kitchen garden, or within a 25-mile radius – and the lunch and dinner menus change each day, according to what’s available.   A sexy, sophisticated bolthole, with food to die for. We had a wonderful stay here in Sept 2025. We stayed for one night and had dinner and breakfast too.|After an initial error with booking, Camilla, the reception manager upgraded us to a most fantastic room. I would personally like to thank her. Room No8. was beautifully decorated, fitted out to perfection and so quiet.|We had a lovely walk round the vegetable garden where we found an abundance of fruits and veggies. That was a delight in itself. We enjoyed eating some at the evening meal. |The restaurant is a well oiled machine. Watching the chefs at work was amazing. The food and service were fab. |The stay was to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We were given complimentary cookies, iced biscuits and a glass of port. Lovely gestures.|We will return.

What we loved • Smooth check-in and a calm, relaxing atmosphere with friendly service. • Room: we booked the Very Small room—genuinely compact with a bed just big enough for two—but cosy, well designed and spotless. • Bathrooms/showers: excellent. • Dinner: delicious (we had the beef and a few other dishes—see photos) with attentive service. • Kitchen garden tour: a highlight. We loved the garden-to-table approach and the principle of cooking with as many home-grown ingredients as possible. What could be better • Breakfast: felt overcrowded and the service was very slow—we waited about 30 minutes for coffee. Bottom line A very enjoyable couple of days overall. We’d happily return for the ambience, dinner and kitchen garden—hoping breakfast service gets a polish.

What a stunning place. The grounds and interior and restaurant. The room was very cute and cosy, we slept wonderfully. I love any hotel where you can sit anywhere and drinks appear. There are so many spaces within and outside that it would work in any season. Their wine list / sparkling list great (expensive but glorous), the breakfast was wonderful. Their chef definitely were not super vegan and gluten free friendly despite otherwise having a healthy vibe to the place and atmosphere (yes it is called The Pig but they have a Kitchen Garden and are all about fresh and seasonal) - but i think their Summer menu has improved upon that. The restaurant is big and busy so at times missing the quiet and cosy vibe of having the grounds to yourself / a more intimate dinner feel. We went on a weekday before summer thinking we'd miss the families so could have a more peaceful experience but there were quite a few children kicking balls around on the grass outside. This would make for a fantastic adults only hotel so it could be extra peaceful as the grounds are just so pretty. We took a walk in to town and it was cute and pretty but not too much to see or do, next time will just stick to the hotel happily, so many nice places to sit. Was surprised there was not more of a late night / post dinner bar scene there as it is so pretty but again was a weekday and some families staying, maybe it is a weekend thing! Gorgeous area to drive in and out of from London.

Fabulous stay. The hotel is beautiful, full of shared spaces scattered among the floors and stairwells where it’s easy to relax and find a comfy sofa to sink into. Meals times are a joy - stylish restaurant with open kitchen, a lovely terrace overlooking the kitchen garden, and a gorgeous patio (great spot for breakfast). Grounds are well kept, and themselves surrounded by fields extending the views. Food was outstanding. Wine was terrific. Staff couldn’t be more helpful. And the room was luxurious, and wonderfully quiet after enjoying everything the place had to offer all day!

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary and were really impressed. We stayed in the Barn which was beautifully decorated and complete with wood burning stove and small outside area. Breakfast was delicious. We didn’t eat in the restaurant in the evenings as there is so much choice in Bridge and also Canterbury which is only a short bus ride away. The Pig comes with a huge thumbs up from us. A beautiful property and ambience in stunning grounds.

Wow, what a treat and such a beautiful location. We were driving back from the coast and decided to stop here for lunch, and we did not regret it. We managed to get a table without a reservation and loved every minute, even though it was raining. The garden is stunning and the lunch was really lovely. I had the tomato tart, which I would not personally recommend, but all the sides were perfect, especially the chips and the leek and cheese. My partner loved his steak. We will definitely be coming back from time to time because it was so delicious and I love that it is farm to table.

Magical setting, with peaceful views. Our Hop Pickers Hut had everything we needed and more. Helpful and welcoming staff. Incredible menu options. The breakfast blew us away. Eleanor, Izzy and Sarah were especially amazing.

Our stay at The Pig on the Bridge in Canterbury was to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary and it was nothing short of wonderful. The grounds are absolutely beautiful – so peaceful and full of character. Our room was spotless and had such a cosy yet stylish feel. The food was incredible, with every dish full of flavour and beautifully presented. What really stood out was the team – every single member of staff we met was attentive, friendly, and genuinely helpful. It’s now one of our new favourite places to visit. I love what it stands for – friendly and relaxed, yet with a special, thoughtful touch that makes you feel truly looked after. A real attention to detail that did not go unnoticed. Thank you for making our stay special.
